hey guys do we realize that the main difference betwen how kai and midori developed is that kai was given the chance to learn what normal life and love and family was like by working with chidouins while midori was kept under asunaros thumb all his life. do we realize that just a few changes could have kai acting just as cruel and merciless as midori. do we realize that midori is a victim of asunaro too, and though that doesn't excuse his actions it does make them more tragic. do we realize this or are we all being serious when we say midori is the only character who isn't worth redemption.

I went Shin route while playing it the first game (so I think of it as an official route). I think the death of Kanna distressed him and made him sad and so angry. Even if he hides it well.

What pains me rven more is that probably he won't ever know that his asu-naru wish came true and his sister died for him. Another siblings teared from each other.

fav part of the new opening…. hiyori is so TINY and yama is so BIG compared to her its so cute. either way that are both like tiny bugs on my screen in which i keep them in a warm enclosure where i feed and sing to them everynight

the way midori is so eager to see us find out the truth about the death game makes me think he's not the villain he shows himself to be. he gives you hint after hint, helps you (even if he's annoying about it) when you stagnate, claiming he's bored. but he's who helped you out with maple. even if it was all ultimately a scheme for his own enjoyment, midori wanted us to figure out the truth. he's like a more twisted version of the helpful guide character. he's just helpful in the most asshole way possible. save safalin, no asunaro member has been this helpful, at least as far as i remember - please correct me if i'm wrong. he gives you both puzzle and key, and even leads you in the right direction when you're wrong. yes, he's a total douchebag about all of it, but without him, we would probably never figure out what to do. he even wants everyone to recall their memories despite being the one who messed with their memories in the first place. again, this is likely because he just wants to see them be tormented by the psychological distress of it -- but in the end, the ultimate result is they all slowly move forward in the quest of getting out.

then again, his defining character traits are irrational, illogical actions that only make him a lunatic. but yttd characters are never that one dimensional. a lunatic he may be, but for all his madness, there is a consistent pattern - which is, in ironic fashion, how he plays the role of a benevolent guide, a god even. he hints the truth to you over and over, but never telling you directly. all i'm saying is, there's more than one way of reading his actions.

okay i need to get really obnoxious about the new nagisa and hiyori solos for a second

(before i go further i adore them, obviously. they are absolutely perfect for them and their character growth, all four of edens solos are, i am blown away by what theyve done with these and i could go on and on about how much i love them individually but in this post i want to go on about something very specific)

seeing hiyoris solo name, Accept My Love, i had some expectations for this song- namely that i expected this to be an overwhelmingly hiyojun song (in the way that other solos have obvious nods to important characters in their lives without being Explicitly About Them (Wandering Clown and Crystal Pleasure being obvious examples of this)) which i was excited for! and i think you can absolutely see it that way!

however!

there are also some nods in Accept My Love that feel more explicitly nagihiyo that have me absolutely struck- both in the references that seem to be links between both of their solos, and the links in Accept My Love that feel like theyre referencing back to some of the kiseki stories from ! era

i just want to pluck the examples i can think of, starting with just the solos (and also with the caveat that this is from one particular person's translations so there may be different interpretations, this is just me drawing conclusions from the ones ive found)

first, from nagisas:

poking at this, i can draw a parallel at the very least visually- nagisa finally stepping out into the world where the wind blows, and hiyori standing behind him calling to him to remind him hey, im right here, pay attention to me too...!

but then, going a little further

and then, hiyori:

now this i dont feel i even have to say anything about. the obvious parallels between nagisa struggling with the concept that trying to connect with others being a sin while hiyori just lightly dismisses it as not even something worth considering. loving sigh

again, a very easy to make comparison. hiyori has always been light-coded, and light in the darkness is a very easy metaphor to make for human connection and love, but i like drawing the parallel regardless as its used in both of their solos

and now... i also want to bring attention to something else.

in kiseki revenge match, thats when hiyori talks about nagisas backstory, and in the midst of it all, he says this

thats how he describes nagisa. and i truly believe that it came from anxiety, and a sense of inadequacy. hiyori poured all of his love into nagisa, and it helped- it undeniably helped, and nagisa has stated as much time and again, that hiyori brought him to life, that hiyoris light saved him, that hiyori is his sun. but hiyori alone couldnt be his whole world (no one person can, even if theyre soulmates (which they are (to me))) and so hiyori, whos sense of self worth is tied to his ability to love and to be loved and to heal, felt insecure over it and started to see nagisa as hopeless. as a bottomless hole.

however

this now brings me back to Accept My Love

do you think there is a limit on how sunlight radiates?

this is so, so stunning to me- because hiyori has come so far, because he believes that his love is endless and healing, because- reading it the way that i am- he can see his love as enough, that his love and giving it isnt hopeless anymore. and he wants to give it! he wants it to be received! accept my love!

NAGIHIYO INVENTED LOVE

So I didn't grow up watching anime, due to living in a somewhat strict household with a mom who hated anime (at the time, and honestly she had valid points when I was younger but she's getting really into Studio Ghibli currently). That being said I did have a phase of being interested in it when I was younger and watched bits and pieces of a few different anime, the first being Your Lie In April and then a little bit of Hunter X Hunter and probably a couple others that I don't remember.

But there is one that I do remember vividly.

I found Noragami by chance when I was like 14 and I kid you not, something about this story unlocked new emotions in me that I didn't even know I could feel. The effect it had on me still ripples through me in my adult life. When I first found it, it kicked off a new era of storytelling for me, because it inspired me to write something that had actual weight, something that was very close to my heart. Which led to me writing more and more and learning how to write more in tune with what moved me. I still think about Noragami all the time. It was only in the last year or so that I finally read the manga, and while I found it difficult to follow at times, it's still such an incredible story. I know there's not a huge chance of the anime getting another season, but I will absolutely sob if it does, by some miracle. I would love to see these characters alive again.
