The Twilight Visitor
***
A voice recorder in his hand, and a heavy feeling on his back, Giorno Giovanna has retired for the day.
Entering his study and slumping on his chair, the tired Don covered his sweaty face with his hand, reflecting on the events that occurred earlier during the day.
And for the first time ever, Giorno Giovanna was so torn apart. Would he pursue vengeance, or would he just let the things of the past rest?
With a deep sigh, he raised the voice recorder and pushed the play button. He waited, and waited, until, finally, he heard hisvoice again.
"Are you here,... to visit me again?"
"I think you have that the other way around."
"So it seems,... "
Giorno's tired eyes wandered to the garden outside, imagining his visitor sitting there on the iron bench. Even then, the man felt so,... lonely. So forlorn.
"I'm leaving soon." Giorno heard the man's voice through the recorder.
"You told me you had nowhere else to go. Why not stay for a while?"
"I can't bother you any longer. This burden,... should be mine alone to carry."
"I'll carry some of that burden for you." Giorno closed his eyes shut and prevented the tears from falling.
"You can't. This is my punishment."
"Punishment for what?"
"I was,... not exactly a good person. I was,... I gave up on my humanity."
" .... what do you mean by that? Are you - ?"
"It doesn't matter. In my pursuit of power, I threw everything away. And in the process, I lost the most important thing that I ever had. The monster in me believed I could hold the world at the tip of my fingers.
"I had a soul, only it has been chipped away. Little by little, until only a small dreg of it was left. And that small dreg was screaming at me from the inside, telling me to stop. Telling me that everything I was doing was futile. Useless. I didn't listen, I chose not to. And that piece of my soul, along with my past as a human, all vanished when I thought I have obtained power.
"The monster,... took over. I destroyed lives. I made them miserable. I have pursued something I thought was rightfully mine. I searched and I searched, as if something was missing. Something,...
"Jonathan."
"Who is Jonathan?" Through the recorder, Giorno heard himself inhale sharply, as if concealing something that was painful. As if someone just pressed hot iron against the skin on his back, on that particular part,...
"Jonathan was my,... no. I' am not worthy to be called his brother. I was anything but. He was the only person who believed in me despite everything. And in my final moments, I heard him calling my name. While I was dying at the hands of his descendant, I heard him speaking to me. He was telling me to,... "
"What did he tell you?"
" ... he was telling me to go back home."
Giorno turned the recorder off. The conversation he had with his visitor really took a toll on his emotions. The man may have told him that he has given up on his humanity. However, his cries, his despair,...
... it was the human in him that was crying out to be freed from the monster that he became.
Giorno opened the recorder once more after taking a deep breath, preparing himself.
"He was,... " The man went on through his tears. " ... welcoming me home with open arms despite inflicting pain on his descendants. And in that desperate and hopeless moment, I remembered how he held me in his arms one last time before he met his end. It was my fault. He died because of me."
"Why won't you go to him, then?"
"I can't. I don't deserve eternal rest. Never."
"I think it's time for you to rest. You have,... wandered long enough. I'm sure he has forgiven you."
"Maybe he has. I knew him. He has a heart of gold. However, I can't,...
" ... it’s difficult for me to leave you behind, Haruno."
Through the tool in his hand, the Don heard noises. Inaudible, distorted, and yet, he could remember the details in his head as clear as day.
As if by instinct, Gold Experience Requiem materialized, ready to protect him as the sentient Stand felt something dangerous emanating from the visitor. Giorno was barely able to stop his Stand before plunging the man into its own pocket universe.
He may still be dangerous but, Giorno felt he would never do anything to harm him. After all, he,...
" ... how did you know,... about my name?"
Giorno asked as calmly as he could as his Stand hovered just above him, ready to pounce at any given moment.
"I have watched you since you were born. I have,... kept a close eye on you from a distance. Watched how you overcame your enemies. I saw how you were able to climb to the top.
"And now that your power has reached what mine couldn't, you're now able to see me,...
... your father."
" ... father,... ?" Giorno could hear his disbelief through the recorder. Until now, he couldn't believe his own eyes and ears.
"If there is one small good thing I have done for the world that I tried so many times conquer, that was to spare your life. And you have grown up to be,... such a wonderful man."
"WHO ARE YOU?! TELL ME!"
"My name, and who I was, they are all irrelevant. Perhaps I should not call you my son. You are more a Joestar than a Brando." Giorno heard the man's laughter, and he could remember how he shrugged his shoulders as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Looking at you now, I see Jonathan's son, and not my own... "
"I don't understand,... "
"You will. Someday."
Giorno turned off the voice recorder just as the room was engulfed in total darkness. With the moon high above the clear night sky giving him a dim light in his dark room, he remembered how the man stood up and walked away from him. In the distance, he saw the man's form changing. His body was,... slowly being engulfed in flames.
The Don got a glimpse of where the visitor was headed.
He briefly saw a glimpse of Hell.
And the man's last words, they were,...
"I cannot go where Jonathan is. That place,... doesn't deserve a thing such as I." Turning to Giorno for one last time, he said, with such tender eyes and soft smile, "Do not hold a grudge against Jotaro. For I have brought this misery upon myself. I' am now going to where I'm supposed to be. You live a life you'll be proud of, and never tread the same path as I did.
"Farewell, Haruno,... "
And in the final light of the twilight, the visitor, his father, vanished, never to be seen again.

Passione Secret #6: The Twilight Visitor
~ Ever since taking the seat as the new Don of Passione, Giorno Giovanna has been seeing an apparition in the garden that seemed to appear only at twilight. The Don took it upon himself to know the purpose of this ghostly visitor, but he only ever got the same answer - he had nowhere else to go. The ghost didn't do any harm though, so the Don allowed its presence in the villa. A few weeks later, the ghost has entirely ceased to show up, and Giorno Giovanna suddenly became so engrossed in his research regarding an old English family by the name of Joestar.
