HIStory 5: Love in the Future Ep 8 (MDL 15-16) Stray Thoughts

I'm very tired, so this may be a bit spartan.

Last week, this show asked me to believe that Vincent Liang would betray the chairman's wishes, but clearly everyone in world believed. Thus, I was subjected to Hai Yi's beef and Lin Wynn's lack of faith. Bo-wei and Hai Yi were so bad at talking to each other, but at least had a cute reconciliation. Hai Yi thought he was doing something nice by pairing Johnny and Wynn together at work, but Bo-wei is so jealous of Wynn now, and that's also tedious.

I appreciate that the characters don't know Vincent the way we do, so I'll try to be patient.

At least Wynn hasn't given up entirely, and leaves cough medicine for Vincent.

I just know Vincent is planning their wedding.

COVID is so pernicious. This is Hai Yi's second infection in the show.

It's been two months and I still don't like Johnny's hair.

I just love the way Tony dresses, and I genuinely love that he has held on to his beef with Wynn.

Now Wynn, don't hurt the tree.

I don't mind placing the actors in the same room instead of just showing them on a video call.

Johnny, you better bathe immediately.

It's interesting seeing a show set this far into the pandemic. Seems like most shows are opting to ignore it at this point.

Okay, I like this salmon color suit on Johnny with the black shirt.

Oh, this cafeteria fight is embarrassing.

Johnny is now the voice of reason when it comes to boyfriends.

Three Ships 🚢

Okay, my alltime favorite ship will be VeeMark – I live for their chemistry. The story, well it was not that outstanding, but as someone who is crushing hard on War, I guess the ship is understandable. PhuTian. Does this need any explanation? EarthMix are the kings of longingly chemistry for me and I love the story of Phupha and Tian so much. They touch my heart and I love them. And of course, TinnGun. They live in my head rent free at the moment. I love everything about them and their relationship. It is so wholesome to watch. So yeah, I like chemistry. If there is no such thing for me, I won’t like the ship and most of the times the series. And chemistry is not only the tension or sexual attraction, it is just how the characters work together, how they communicate, what feeling they can manage to put into my poor cold heart.

If we speak about bl, than I have to say PatPran. Bad Buddy was my downfall. After that, there was no going back to my usual media. But my first ship ever…The one I can think of right now is Brian x Justin from Queer as Folk. I still love them and guess I will for the rest of my life.

I have watched a movie yesterday, which only my best friend knows about. It is one of the most plotless shits I have ever seen. So no, I will go with Tinted With You the movie version and try to forget the other one exists. But this was a really sweet history drama. Liked it.

911 Lone Star (ep3-7) - As much as I love some of the characters, I think I’m going to look for a TK/Carlos edit to keep up with. I found myself fast forwarding a lot.

Bed Friend - I don’t know why it didn’t click earlier that this is a standard romance novel plot, but now that it has I think I’m going to enjoy it more.

Chains of Heart - I love this show. I’m a bit frustrated by the midpoint slowdown, but I am still very much enjoying it.

The Eclipse - Yep, I’m rewatching. And taking notes. LOL It’s so much better going in without specific genre expectations. First and Khaotung are in another show coming out this year right? They are such great acting partners.

History5: Love in the Future - So forgettable I completely spaced that I finished it this week. Suffers from Second Lead Syndrome significantly and I wish they had been the lead couple. So far, History3: Trapped continues to be unbeatable in this series.

A Shoulder to Cry On - My favorite of the three Korean BLs I’m following right now. The longer episodes give the characters room, and only two episodes in we’ve already gotten some great nuance. I’m looking forward to seeing how their relationship develops. The acting is much better than I expected. And my favorite scene stealer from All the Liquors showed up so that’s another point in its favor.

Weightlifting Fairy, Kim Bok Joo - I always forget how much I enjoy sports romance until I’m watching one. Some of it felt like filler, but the two leads were very charming and made an adorable couple I just want to squish. I loved Lee Sung Kyung in Sh**ting Stars, so it was fun to see her in a much earlier role. (She’s also in Call it Love which is airing now.)

HIStory5: Love in the Future Ep 10 (Finale) Stray Thoughts

Y'all, I am so glad this show is ending.

Last time, Lin Wynn continued to angst about Vincent, but they at least managed to see each other. Bo-wei is trying to set Hai Yi up with girls because he things he's going to leave. We have some drama coming about the chairman position. Also, they introduced a brothers romance from an earlier series? I hate it.

Oh good. We're wrapping this corporate battle plot quickly. Of course Vincent was a spy the whole time, and Hai Yi has been his confidant. Of course he arranged the warehouse for Johnny. I had no doubt about Vincent, so I'm glad we're moving quickly.

My man Vincent said he needs a break and tendered his resignation.

These necklaces are very romantic. Nice play, Wynn.

It is nice to see Wynn being assured in this encounter with Vincent. Vincent cares so much about Wynn, and checks in before lifting him up the stairs.

Vincent is my kind of man. Big TV downstairs. Big TV in the bedroom. We doin' things real big here.

Bo-wei dealing with the shift in reality that Hai Yi is actually reliable lands okay.

I hope Vincent and Wynn retire to the beach.

I'm so over Bo-wei pushing Hai Yi away.

It'd even soured this first time scene. All this avoidance and bickering means this feels unaligned.

Vincent and Wynn are really the only part of this show I've been able to enjoy. Their beach scene lands completely.

As a gay, if I was doing okay in the future and none of my close family were left behind, I'd stay in the future.

So we held on to the dead grandma card just to get maximum drama here? I kinda hate this.

"I didn't want you to be sad," is a weak excuse for not telling him about his grandmother.

Seriously, what did this summoner want??

I suppose seeing the grandma's ghost is meant to let us feel about him staying?

Okay, but what about the consciousness that was Dai Johnny??

Oh, are we ending at a wedding for the brothers? Hmm, no.

Final Verdict: 5, Not Recommended. Honestly, this show was not it for me at all. I feel like the time travel component felt underutilized, and I have no idea why the psychic who summoned him cared about him so much. I don't feel like we cared about actual Johnny Dai. The corporate plot dragged on too long with no real emotional stakes or payoff. Bo-wei and Hai Yi bickered the whole time. The only part of this that worked was Vincent's incredible devotion to Wynn. I've tried to support the History franchise, but I'm no longer sticking through these shows if they put me off..
