The Hicks-Perry-Bland-Holmes House, ca. 1914. Designed by Louisburg Architect/Engineer, M. Stuart Davis. The home was built for Brantley Hicks. Mr. Hicks, who died in 1915, and his wife, Minnie, who died in 1916, did not live long in the home. From that time the home was sold and bought several times. At one point, the home was purchased and owned by Dr. H.G. Perry in 1928. Perry added the one story rear addition to the main house, using the first floor as a hospital and clinic, while living upstairs. From there, a Dr. Charles Bland purchased the home from Perry and maintained the house as a clinic as well, until his death. After Perry's death, his widow, Mary Bland, continued to live in this house until she sold it in 1963. I try not to get caught up in the local 'rumors and gossip', but we'd heard quite the story about some of the owners of this old home with, shall I say, more than colorful tales to go along with it. I'll just leave it at that! :-) The most recent owner finally decided to sell the faltering house to a local business man. We were told by the new owner that they have every intention of restoring the home, with progress already underway. I have a lot of favorites by way of homes, here in Louisburg, but the Hicks-Perry-Bland-Holmes House truly is my favorite of all. **some of the historical information shared here was obtained from the book 'The Historic District of Louisburg, North Carolina by Vickie E.
