I couldn’t get enough of wandering the streets of downtown Charleston. Lovely historic architecture, lush greenery, charming cobblestone pavement, beautiful shudders and doors and last but not least amazingly creatively planted window box everywhere. Charleston has it all! But what maybe made me really fall in love with this city is the overall relaxed and chilled atmosphere. You can really feel at home in Charleston, instantly. As a matter of fact, I seriously could imagine living here! #charleston #organicgardendreams #historiccharleston #oldhomes #historichomes #shudders #windowboxes #windowbox #charlestonfrenchquarter #green #lushgreen #cobblestone #cobblestonestreets #historichomes #historichouses #gardeninspirartion #gardening #gardens #garden #citygarden #citygardens #citygardening #gardensofinstagram #gardensgreatorsmall #gardendesign #instagardens #fortheloveofgardening (at Downtown Charleston) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSfOw7lrz3G/?utm_medium=tumblr

Iron gates
Image from folio, “Examples of Colonial Architecture in Charleston, S. C., and Savannah, Ga.,” 1895. The gates pictured here are from St. Philip’s Churchyard (left) and St. Michael’s Churchyard (right). According to the South Carolina Encyclopedia, much of Charleston’s oldest surviving wrought iron can be linked to the railing at St. Michael’s Church, which was fashioned in London and installed in 1772.

Here is another photo, that I took on our recent trip to Charleston, South Carolina. I loved this row of historic houses in downtown, with the pretty frontyards and window boxes and all the beautiful tall trees. I often wondered why I felt such a strong sense of well-being in Charleston and I believe it is because there is so much beauty in terms of the mostly historic architecture and the tremendous amount of greenery. I simply loved being there and strolling around the downtown streets for hours. Many of you, who commented on my previous posts about Charleston, seemed to share my feelings for this charming city. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all loved to be where we actually live? Taking Charleston as an example, would it make a difference to our quality of live, when we all would take as good care as we can of the trees in our neighborhoods and gardens, plant up beautiful front- and backyards or even just a window box or a container? And also make our houses as pretty as we can, may they be historic or not, maybe starting small by choosing a nice color for the front door? I believe it would make a big difference. What do you do think? Am I just a hopeless dreamer or can we consciously collectively as a community make our cities more beautiful and therefore increase their livability? #organicgardendreams #charleston #southcarolina #downtowncharleston #historichomes #historichouses #oldhome #oldhomes #oldhouse #oldhouses #prettyfrontyards #prettyfrontyard #tree #trees #beautifulcity #cottages #cottage #historiccharleston #windowbox #windowboxes #charlestonsouthcarolina #pinkhouse #pinkhouses #pink #pinkhome #frontyard #beautiful #beautifulhouse #beautifultree #crepemyrtle (at Charleston, South Carolina) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTpHUB0L1Y8/?utm_medium=tumblr

The gourd: believed to be the earliest plant domesticated by man, originating in Asia. It is speculated that gourds made their way to the Americas carried across the Bering Straight and by floating on ocean currents. Also known as fabulous fall decor as demonstrated here.
