my toxic adrenaline junkie rat trait is that i really want deniss to nail the quad in the short. not even out of like obligation to Keep Up With The Field™ or anything just in part because the 2022 euros r&j quad salchow was an incomparable rush, like that jump was a thing of beauty, and in part because we all talk abt fake jumps vibes are real but alongside his existing strengths that do get talked about (great basic technique, musicality, speed, posture etc) his jumps really are gorgeous and it would be dope to see a consistent quad done at his level yaknow!!

i get that from a competition strategy pov its unwise to keep unreliable tech in the layout but also the sentimental part of me thinks back to the emotional journey of watching him bomb it over and over in the free skates last season after numerous beautiful all-triple short programs, just to nail it without a single thing out of place at euros — adding it into the short is, i think, an achievable next step when the basics are already this strong, alongside developing consistency. like i respect that hes still pushing himself in that area and like yea we're gonna see some struggling because that comes with the territory of pushing oneself etc etc. idk the futility of "just take the quad out of the short" makes me a little sad sometimes cause the journey is going to have blips. obviously in the greater context of the physical demands of the sport and how much judging is dependent on tech i definitely understand that feeling which i guess is where im conflicted about it?

im not even upset about the attempt today because i actually thought he was going to land it (the axis was nice!) and just the rotation was a bit short, and he went into the SP visibly way looser and more into it than his previous performances - just seeing him live in the program way more today was rlly nice!!
