If you think about it, crab mentality can often be seen in corporate settings, where capitalists put a bunch of people in a room, bait them with higher salary, tell them that the most competitive of all can get it, and watch someone rise to the top as he gets top brass performance from them, thus giving him money without much sweat.
Filipino communities are often described with this mentality, but living in it for most of my life, I've never seen this mentality at all. Bayanihan Mentality is more apparent than the other. Hearing people's stories and (ahem) stumbling upon fb stories, I see this 'coworkers who drag everybody down' attitude is always in a foreign company settings (considering most of the companies here are foreign owned). I'm not saying Filipinos are pure people who has only been tainted by foreigners, no, because we also have our own evil. Nonetheless, crab mentality is not a natural occurence in most culture, and may only manifest in an artificial environment where everybody just wants to beat the system.
But hey, I dunno. I could be wrong.
people are like "if you put crabs in a bucket they can't escape because they keep pulling each other back in, this is called crab bucket mentality and describes why people don't help each other" and never acknowledge that crabs do not naturally occur in buckets, a human with more power had to put them there
