“TSUKKI!”
tsukishima let out an exasperated sigh, his grip tightening on his pen as an annoyingly familiar voice pierced through the placid ambiance of the library. he didn’t need to look up to confirm that the culprit was none other than hinata shoyo, who was now receiving glares from both the librarian and nearby students. tsukishima decided it was best to save himself from the secondhand embarrassment.
erratic, hurried footsteps could be heard throughout the aisle, growing louder with each passing second.
“tsukki!” hinata exclaimed again, his poor attempt at keeping his voice down doing little to no help. he stumbled forward, slamming his hands onto the table to steady himself after nearly crashing into it. “you have to help me! i don’t understand anything in this accounting assignment, and it’s due later today! please, i’m begging you!”
he hastily pulled out a crumpled paper from his bag, shoving it to tsukishima, who reluctantly took it from him with a look of utter disdain.
“first of all, you need to work on your handwriting,” tsukishima deadpanned, eyes scanning the page from top to bottom. “second, you’re overreacting. this isn't even that hard.”
“for you!” hinata cried. “i don't know what i’m doing! the prof doesn't even show up to class and then leaves us to figure out this assignment, which he didn't even teach. tsukki, please—”
hinata was cut off by the sound of the librarian’s bell ringing, reminding everyone to observe silence. when it died down, he looked at tsukishima pleadingly.
“tsukki, you're like, smart and all that—help me out!” he whined, plopping himself down into the chair beside tsukishima, who probably didn't appreciate the invasion of his personal space.
“you’re the only accounting student i know!”
“and you're a marketing student. go market yourself to someone who cares.”
the conversation, or rather hinata’s animated pleas and tsukishima’s pointed refusals, went on for a few minutes. first, it was all whispers; then, they barely even tried to control the volume of their voices. this stirred the sleeping figure at the table, who they failed to acknowledge as her eyes fluttered open. the fluorescent lights of the library inundated her vision, making her squint. her face scrunched up, irritation lingering on her features. the first thing she heard was tsukishima’s voice, talking monotonously but loud enough to disturb her.
“tsukishima kei,” she began, her voice raspy and deep, hints of sleepiness still evident. yet despite that, her tone carried a sharp edge.
tsukishima, who was about to retort, paused mid-sentence as he turned to see her scowling at him. hinata by his side slightly jumped in seat when he heard a new voice, as if an ominous presence had just made itself known.
“i told you not to make any noise,” she finished before sitting up straight, crossing her arms.
“it wasn't me,” tsukishima said, adjusting his glasses before glancing to his side, gesturing to hinata. “it’s this idiot right here.”
“oh! hello, uh, sorry for waking you up!” hinata stammered out an apology, bowing his head slightly. when he looked up and took a good look at her, he couldn't help but blurt out, “you’re not another scary accounting student, right?”
“what,” she said, her voice not one of confusion but of complete disbelief. hinata’s face flushed red in embarrassment, while tsukishima, on the other hand, snickered at their exchange. “must have been the wind,” she muttered, trying to lighten up the situation a bit by shifting the topic to dismiss what hinata just said. “anyway, care to explain what the commotion was all about?”
“it’s because of this,” hinata composed himself for a moment before he held up the assignment sheet for accounting, showing it to her. “i just really need help with my accounting assignment! i’m a marketing student. we don't really have to focus on this subject, but we still need to pass, and tsukki here is being mean!” she listened as he explained, leaning back and putting a finger on her chin to examine the assignment from a distance.
“give it to me.” this made both of the boys look at her.
“eh?” hinata blinked.
“your assignment, sunshine,” she said, gesturing for him to hand the assignment sheet to her.
“i’ll do it for you.”
“wait, really?” hinata beamed, his eyes shining with newfound hope.
“you can't be serious.” tsukishima looked at her like he was full-on judging her choices in life after she took the sheet from hinata, but she only shrugged.
“what? i’m bored. at least i’m doing something good out of it,” she mused, pulling out a piece of paper to write the answers on it. tsukishima rolls his eyes at this.
“whatever, go ahead and enable him. see how that works out for you.” deciding that it was no longer worth his energy, tsukishima went back to his work, which he had neglected ever since an academic parasite called hinata shoyo showed up.
“as for you,” she turned to hinata, ushering him to move to the seat next to her.
“you’re going to sit here and watch me do this so you can actually learn something, yeah?”

the hinata and (y/n) interaction is finally here
the librarian rang the bell several times during tsukishima and hinata's conversation
it's a miracle they haven't been kicked out of the library yet
(y/n) wasn't in the mood to explain things to hinata
“you do it like this” and then refuses to explain further lmao
hinata wasn't able to reply to the comments under his tweet because (y/n) told him to get off his phone

while cramming for an accounting assignment from a professor who rarely even shows up to class, a struggling marketing student unexpectedly gets help from an accountancy student, who offers out of pure boredom.
but as the numbers add up, it seems there’s more to this basic accounting equation than meets the eye.

oikawa did, in fact, depreciate land once in his accounting exam
the value of land does not decrease over time, so it is not subject to depreciation. here's a visual representation of land if it could be depreciated lmao
tsukishima and yn's natural habitat is the library
oikawa called them nerds because of that
hinata tried to watch a youtube tutorial and gave up halfway
their professor only taught them the theoretical aspect of accounting and dipped
tsukishima had his phone on dnd the moment he saw hinata's message appeared on his lockscreen
kageyama was contemplating whether if he should wake up yamaguchi or let him sleep

transaction two: boring (¥)
Tumblr media
the university library was unusually lively in the morning. the dull hum of the air conditioning, the occasional rustling of pages being turned, the whispers of a group of students discussing their coursework, and the librarian impatiently ringing the bell whenever silence wasn’t observed filled the air.
in a quiet, secluded corner of the library, the two first-years were seated at their usual spot, with a few accounting textbooks sprawled across the table.
tsukishima was busy trying to solve a problem set while her attention was glued to the novel she had pulled from the fiction section on a whim, pretending to be immersed in its worn-out pages. it didn’t take long for her to close it and set it aside, the look of boredom evident on her face.
“i can’t believe i dragged myself out of bed just for the class to be canceled last minute,” she complained, leaning back in the wooden chair with a sigh. “it doesn’t help that our next class is in the afternoon.”
tsukishima, seated across from her, didn’t bother to glance up, the sound of his pen scratching against the page of his notebook briefly filling the silence. “then stay in bed next time.”
“tempting,” she snickered, resting her chin on the palm of her hand. “but if getting out of bed means i get to see you struggle with an accounting problem set, i’d gladly take the opportunity to witness it. who knows? maybe you’ll even ask me for help.”
this made the blond pause mid-sentence in the explanation he was writing, tearing his eyes away from the paper to meet her smirk with an unamused, deadpan expression, as if to say he couldn’t believe the audacity he was hearing right now.
“i’d rather fail the entire semester than ask you for help.”
“don’t set yourself up like that. we haven’t even made it out of the first semester yet,” she replied, the playful lilt in her voice not going unnoticed as she pressed on further. “and besides, you would’ve failed that one accounting quiz if i hadn’t pointed out that your format was incorrect.”
“i would've figured it out myself without your help,” tsukishima shot back, giving her a pointed look.
“you figured it out after i told you twice, that is.” she raised a brow, crossing her arms. “you’re welcome, by the way.”
“i was fine without your help.”
“sure, because almost getting a 5 for not doing a one-inch indention for the account titles and explanations is totally being fine.”
“that was one time.” tsukishima defended, the reminder clearly irking him by the way his expression turned sour.
“and it would’ve been your final grade if i hadn’t stepped in,” she teased, and she knew she’d won by the way the blond scoffed at this.
“whatever.” tsukishima clicked his tongue, rolling his eyes before returning his focus to the problem set before him, clearly dismissing her. she didn’t say anything. instead, she watched the way tsukishima's pen scratched against the paper in a somewhat frustrated fashion—a gesture she recognized all too well. however, she didn’t try to coax him into dialogue, knowing he would rather choke on his own pride than admit he needed help.
he’d figure it out on his own. his words, not hers.
“so boring,” she muttered, letting a yawn escape her lips. she propped her elbows on the table and rested her cheeks on her palms, her eyelids drooping. “i’m taking a nap, tsukki. don’t make any noise, or i’ll kill you.”
“don’t drool on the table,” tsukishima responded, ignoring the empty threat as he flipped to the next page of the accounting textbook.
“don’t miss me too much,” she replied cheekily, already sinking into a more comfortable position with her head resting on her folded arms. the corner of tsukishima’s mouth twitched, but he ended up not wasting anymore energy by making further comments, deciding to bask in the silence once her breath evened out.
no one knew how long it would take to break the silence that settled between them. but for now, the air seemed lighter, and the stillness almost comforting.

tsukishima is barely tolerating (y/n) at this point
he is actually thankful that his ass got saved by (y/n) but he will never hear the end of her bringing it up to tease him
someone i know irl actually got an 5 from one of their accounting quiz for not doing a one-inch indention
also, i don't know how grading system works in other countries but from where i am, we use the grade point scale of 1.00–5.00 (1.00 is the highest grade and 5.00 is lowest failing grade)
tsukishima opened his convo with hinata by accident and hinata was losing hope when he was left on read
we are one step closer in getting an (y/n) and hinata interaction yay

ACCOUNT HOLDER: an introduction to academic victims
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hinata shoyo
first-year marketing student. the wheel of names chose his program for him because he was indecisive, but he ended up liking marketing. while he’s not the brightest, his enthusiasm and determination definitely make up for it. however, the practical aspect of their accounting subject has him in tears lately, and he blames their rarely present professor for having the audacity to give assignments. procrastinates a lot and would cram with others in the group call.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
kozume kenma
second-year marketing student. supposed to be busy with marketing research but often hops on his computer to go gaming instead. he still manages to pass his classes with minimal effort. roommates with hinata, and since they’re in the same program, hinata got notes from him for most subjects. kenma couldn’t help him with accounting, though. he dealt with the same professor last year and forgot the lessons in that subject since that professor had more absences than attendance.
nishinoya yu
second-year communication student. tourism management was his first choice but due to the height requirements in the program, he wasn't qualified and ended up in communication instead. the incident has been a running joke in the group chat ever since. a menace. the biggest yapper ever and the only thing that shuts him up are tight deadlines. talks a lot during group calls where the everyone is doing homework only then to be told to shut up by an annoyed tsukishima.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yachi hitoka
first-year interior design student. she is the one that balances out the chaos in the group but sometimes, she needs a little saving from them. the biggest sweetheart ever and the go-to person for advice or a listening ear. her talent for designing spaces and creating beautiful layouts makes her a standout in her program, but her shy nature often leads her to second-guess herself.
yamaguchi tadashi
first-year architecture student. sleep-deprived because he always pulls all-nighters to finish his plates. he is often found sleeping in the oddest places, in any uncomfortable position, and through any noise. although architecture is stressful most of the time, he’s still having fun with it. just don’t ask him how much coffee he consumes in a day. roommates with kageyama and tsukishima, who are firsthand witnesses of his suffering.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
kageyama tobio
first-year sports science student. currently waiting for the intramurals sports since he has a clear goal getting into the university volleyball team. he never hesitates to speak what's on his mind and call anyone out, especially if that person happens to be hinata. a lot of people are intimidated by him, but he actually just doesn't know how to function properly in social settings.

ACCOUNT HOLDER: an introduction to CPA (can't pass accounting)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(y/n) (l/n)
first-year accountancy student. chose her program only because someone said she should since she was good in math and that's exactly what she did. she quickly got the hang of accountancy, thanks to akaashi giving her heads-up and advice before the semester started. as for her social life, she limits herself to a small circle of friends, all accountancy students, where their definition of group bonding is simply group study sessions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
alisa haiba
fourth-year accountancy student who went to the same high school as kuroo. she rarely drops by the group chat due to being busy with internship and research but would randomly appear as a proof of life. as a senior, she often offers advice on academics and navigating university life, especially as things get more challenging in the later years. a graduating student on the verge of losing her sanity.
kuroo tetsuro
third-year accountancy student. kuroo is known as one of the students who excels in the program, and he frequently volunteers as a tutor along with sugawara to help struggling accountancy students. it was through a peer tutoring session that he met both (y/n) and tsukishima, the unfortunate first-years he kidnapped. he also spills all the gossip he could get from around the bs accountancy department in the group chat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oikawa toru
third-year accountancy student. the reason oikawa chose this program was to add some challenge to his life, though he often contemplates whether it’s too late to regret his choices. despite his doubts, he’s made it this far, thanks to kuroo and sugawara. he’ll never pass up an opportunity to be dramatic and complain about every upcoming test for an hour, only to end up acing it in the end. he is also roommates with sugawara.
sugawara koshi
third-year accountancy student, blockmate with kuroo and oikawa. he is known as the kind and approachable senior, often volunteering as a tutor alongside kuroo. he takes on the role of peacemaker in the group, but there are times when he can be a menace, and no one would bat an eye since it's not oikawa or kuroo. but aside from that, he’s incredibly driven and takes his studies seriously.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
akaashi keiji
second-year accountancy student and (y/n)’s roommate. (y/n) moved into the apartment just before the semester started. he was the one who gave her a heads-up on what to expect in the program from his experience. he is also the reason why (y/n) isn't living off of instant ramen yet since he cooks for both of them. don't be fooled because as calm as he seems, he is actually going through it and copes with coffee.
tsukishima kei
first-year accountancy student and (y/n)’s blockmate. they first met during orientation and share the same schedule, meaning they see each other in every class they have. over time, they’ve just learned to tolerate each other’s presence and became inseparable. also, he doesn’t really have much peace in his life, considering he’s in two different friend groups, and the arrangement has been without his consent.
