In a similar vein to this post, I finished my "final" playthrough of DA2 yesterday. All the choices and romances and, well. Everything. Again, it feels strange. To be done with something that I've been doing for so long.

I will say, after all these hours, I think DA2 is by far the most replayable. It's fast and fun and has really wonderful dialogue. It never really felt like a slog the way DAO did.

As The Veilguard release approaches and I check off more and more DA content from my to-do list, I find myself with a strange sense of... loss? I feel like I'm hurtling toward an ending, which maybe is just as well?

Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end, right?

Personal addition:

I did not go to the dentist for 20 years. I had a really scary experience as a 12 year old involving shots in the roof of my mouth and my mom didn't make me go back (yes, there's a lot to unpack there, no, I don't have time).

Fast forward to 2022. I'm 32, have a career and health care and... One of my front bottom teeth chips. I am terrified, but I make a dentist appointment.

In the office, I have to practice box breathing to stave off a panic attack. They call me back to do x-rays and I explain my history, my anxiety, and my fears for my tooth. The hygienist IMMEDIATELY stops prepping the x-rays and looks at me and tells me she is so proud of me for being there and choosing to take care of my mouth.

I damn near burst into tears. We get through my x-rays with ease and she tells me, "I promise, you have nothing to worry about." And she was right.

Turns out, 20 years is a long time for plaque to build up. My teeth (especially my bottom ones) were basically completely coated in plaque, which is what I chipped. It wasn't my tooth at all.

It took 2 appointments to completely clean my teeth and I had gingivitis that required a prescription mouthwash for almost two months, but my teeth are healthy, strong, and my gums almost completely grew back. Which relieved so much anxiety I had around wondering if my mouth was fucked from neglect.

I know this won't be everyone's experience after such a long time between visits, but I PROMISE you that dental health care professionals just want what's best for your mouth and, ultimately, your health.

I just had my annual cleaning last week and my teeth are still going strong and I have almost NO anxiety around my dentist appointments anymore. I don't know what else to say except, if you have dental insurance you should REALLY take care of your oral health. Please.

So okay. I thought wayyy too hard about this and had A LOT of difficulty choosing because I actually really enjoy rereading my own fics 😅 but I did my best! Answers below the cut for anyone who wants to keep reading:

- Fall Into The Tide: Dragon Age, Sten/f!Mahariel, ~54k words. The premise of this fic is that Mahariel decides on a whim to follow Sten on his maritime journey back to Par Vollen. This was actually the first fic that came to mind as a favourite, and to date, I feel that it's the best thing I've ever written; I'm really proud of Sten's characterization and the emotional beats. I still cry like a baby every time I reread it LOL.

- Lovers In A Dangerous Time: Dragon Age, Fenris/f!Hawke, ~525k words. This is my Fenris the Inquisitor fic. I just finished rereading it and I had a lot of "wow I wrote this? Good job me" moments while reading it! 😂

- Until We Meet Again: The Witcher, Geralt/f!Reader, ~250k words. The point of this fic was that I personally want to fuck Geralt so I made it everyone else's problem BAHAHA. This fic completely mutated from self-indulgent smut to accidentally-falling-in-love in a totally unplanned way, and I'm so thrilled with how it turned out!

- Just Hold On, We're Going Home: Samurai Champloo, Mugen/Fuu/Jin, ~38k words. SamCham is my favourite anime, and the end of it is so heartwrenching to me, even though it's a happy ending. So I wrote this fic to heal myself 🤣 This fic was entirely a gift I wrote for myself on the assumption that no one would actually read it, and it's been lovely to see how many people were craving a poly happy ending like I was!

- The Love That Grows From Violence: Dragon Age, Felassan/f! Lavellan, ~181k words. This is a post-Trespasser fic where a bitter Lavellan falls in love with Felassan, who was made Tranquil rather than killed in the Fade. This fic holds a hugely special place in heart partly because the idea was BRILLIANT (it was suggested to me by a wonderful reader-friend!), and because writing this became my cozy escape during the worst of COVID. I'm really proud of some of the emotional beats in this fic and the lore aspects, and I really hope that Veilguard will not end up proving me entirely wrong or I might just die LOL. 

HONOURABLE MENTIONS (I CAN'T HELP IT, THIS WAS REALLY HARD):

- Even The Hardiest Desert Blooms Need To Get Wet Sometimes: Horizon Forbidden West, Drakka/Aloy, ~365k words. I JUST REALLY LOVE DRAKKA, OKAY? I JUST LOVE HIM. A LOT. I had a ball writing every chapter of this fic just because I adore the disaster Desert gremlin, and I always love the opportunity to write texting in fics, which I got to do here a lot, so this fic makes me a very happy girl 🥰 The only reason this didn't make my top five is that I don't actually reread it very often!

- Inadvisable: Dragon Age, triple romance for Solas/f!Lavellan, Abelas/f!Lavellan, Felassan/f!Lavellan (different Lavellans LOL), ~668k words. This is my modern AU university fic collaboration with my beloved friend and artist Elbenherz. IT WAS SO HARD NOT PUTTING THIS FIC IN THE TOP-FIVE; the only reason it didn't make the cut is because it was either this one or The Love That Grows From Violence, and I just have such cozy-fuzzy vibes/memories of writing TLGFV.

Oldest OC: Uh...I think her name was Dara? She was my OC in my very first fanfic, for the Digimon fandom. Very much a Mary Sue but I love her anyway.

Do you respond to comments, why or why not? I respond to every single comment, even though sometimes it takes me a couple days. I looooooOOOOoove comments and people gushing over my fics. Everyone is always so kind and I wish I could bask in the glow of their happy forever, because someone took time out of their day to read something I wrote, got all the way to the end and wanted to tell me how much they loved it. It doesn't get better than that.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? Okay. So first things first, I actually do not write much angst as I am a perfectionist and if I'm not making myself cry while writing it, what's the point? Second the angstiest ending? Not beginning? Dammit. That would be "Hello Again" for the prompt fill 'Hello Again' in which Avitus wakes up from a dream of happier times with Macen, times before Andromeda...

If you do want the angstiest beginning in which I tried to smooth it over with some smut "Until the Stars Crumble" is the one you want. A sad post-war moment for Shakarian I originally wrote for @briarfox13 in which Garrus has a recording of Shepard's last goodbye programmed into the Shepard VI and he's having trouble moving on.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending? Most of them 😆 but it is probably a toss up.

The first one would be 'Masquerade' in which Hawke has both twins alive since Celeste Hawke is a mage specializing in the spirit healing and lightning (she can use the other elements, just really loves lightning) and she shocked Bethany's heart like a defibrillator and healed all her wounds after the ogre attack. And she and Anders are happily living together secretly in Orlais and no one knows where they are since he blew up Kirkwall's Chantry.

And the second one would be 'Heaven' which sees Thane alive and well because Shepard gave him one of the tech laced lungs that Cerberus gave her. Thane, Taye and Kolyat are just a happy little family enjoying their time post Reaper War together, Thane loving how she and his son get along, Kolyat actually liking his Dad's girlfriend and Thane realizes he never wants to be without her and pops the question.

Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the strangest one you’ve written? I haven't actually written a true crossover, rather I have borrowed the universe I wanted and played in it--Underworld, The Lake House, and Miraculous Ladybug/Superman are my only ones. I'm not sure I consider any of them strange.

Oh wait. I lied I have a Mass Effect/Galavant crossover drabble. That one is the weirdest one for sure. XD

'Claimed' is my Underworld inspired Vampyr/Lycan Shenko AU/world crossover where humans have discovered the existence of supernatural beings and have risen up to take down this imposing threat, but the supernatural beings aren’t going down without a fight. Plus a Vampyr and a Werewolf just happen to be soulmates. ;)

'The Normandy' is my Lake House Shenko AU/world crossover where, incidentally, I had Kaidan as Kate and Alyss as Alex; the names just happened to match up. This time, Shepard had to wait two years to see Kaidan again, and their reunion is smutty and emotional.

And the Miraculous Ladybug/Superman AU/world crossover is also Shenko (I may have a problem) and has two parts due to my brain never working in a chronological order of events. Part one 'Alter Ego' has two (more to come) biotic-wielding, crime-fighting superheroes, who fall in love along the way, and are stuck in a love square between themselves and their secret identities. Part two 'Brainwashed' comes far later in the story and will eventually make it into the main story (Alter Ego) but it may take me a while to get there as I am stalled on all my long fics at the moment--hence all the oneshots. I did the prompts Brainwashed and turned against each other, and “I thought I lost you.”

Have you ever received hate on a fic? Nope. Everyone is so kind and encouraging, it warms my heart.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Only all the time--I'm not the Smut Queen for nothing. All the porn with feelings all the time. I have written so much smut at this point I have a list of new scenarios to try because it has been feeling a little stale lately. I will try almost anything--but I do have limits. XD

Have you ever had a fic translated? No :(

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I'm aware of.

Have you ever co-written a fic before? A few actually. The best thing about a co-author is you not only have a constant sounding board for all your ideas, you have a built in beta/editor to catch things you missed and I have to admit it's really nice.

What’s your all-time favorite ship? Ooh. That is a hard one as I have written so many. But you know what? Aric Jorgan/FemTrooper and Kaidan Alenko/Femshep. They are all soldiers so they just get each other and Aric and Kaidan don't push to complicate the chain of command and always want to know if they are going too far or getting their signals mixed up. And boy howdy is consent sexy. ;)

What are your writing strengths? Well I am definitely good at smut. It's my favorite thing. Fluff and dialogue and keeping people in character are some other ones. I am apparently good at angst even if I don't write it often.

What are your writing weaknesses? ACTION. Like ugh. And humor because I am apparently Satan. XD

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? Honestly I try to avoid it as I really only speak one language (English). Like I speak a little Spanish but not enough. When I do use a different language (so far it's only been Spanish, Catharese, and Elvhen[Dalish]) I either try to translate it tastefully in the fic or leave a note at the end. But thanks to those dedicated fans or Star Wars and Dragon Age who made translators so I can generally get my point across.

What was the first fandom you wrote for? Honestly, I don't know if it was 'D.N.Angel' or 'Magical x Miracle' both of them were in 7th grade (2002) but I don't know which came first.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Oooh probably 'Can't Stand It'. I get to explore the Trooper/Aric relationship. I get to have them be professional and flirty and badass and watch them fall head over heels in live while realizing they were destined to be lifemates. And it brings me so much joy.

Fandoms You Write For: I’m super new to writing fic. I’ve really only been doing it regularly since November😬 I’ve written a couple dragon age fics, but most of what I’ve done is for the wayhaven chronicles. I also writes some stuff for fallen hero. 

Where You Post: everything gets posted on tumblr, but I’ll also put my better/longer stuff on ao3 as well

Most Popular One-shot: uhhh everything is pretty similar when it comes to notes on tumblr, though my two attempt as smuttier stuff details and if I should lose you now  have the most hits/kudos on ao3. 

Most Popular Multi-Chap: Just another liability, I haven’t posted it on ao3 yet, so it’s not technically a multi-chap, but I’ve been posting different pieces here on tumblr, and people seem to be enjoying it which just warms my heart because I was so so nervous about sharing it.

Favorite Story You Wrote: from my au I really like how should be and somewhere between hope and pride turned out. 

Story You Were Nervous to Post: any of the au stuff! I really never thought I would share it, but I couldn’t stop writing it 😂

How Do You Pick Your Titles: I hate choosing titles so much! It’s the worst part of writing. Very rarely I’ll come up with a good one, but I almost always look back and cringe at whatever I came up with. It’s usually either a related noun or a line from the story or sometimes a lyric that I’ve stolen. Either way I hate titles.

Do You Outline: Nope. I’ve mostly been writing shorter pieces where I just have an emotional note I’m looking to hit, so I don’t do a ton of planning for it. I’m just getting back into writing after a few years of not doing any so I’m trying to not put too much pressure on it or worry about polish/making it super good. 

How Many of Your Stories are Complete: Most of the pieces can be read on their own and fit into the wayhaven storyline, so I guess those would be complete. 

In-Progress: Just another liability is the only in progress I’m actively working on, but I do have a couple different ideas which have been swirling around for a while which I might try to get down on paper. 

Coming Soon: I have a bunch of chargestep prompts sitting in my inbox I’m hoping to get to this weekend! (or sooner if my brain will be nice to me). I have some more plot/story sections coming up soon for the au which I just have to get over my nerves with. 

Do You Accept Prompts: omg please! I reblog prompt lists pretty often, but anything you want to send me I’ll probably take a stab at! It might just take me a while depending on my energy levels. the thirty minute ficlets in particular seem to be really good at getting things flowing/beating writers block.

Since the whole DA community is here for Dragon Age Day, I thought I'd announce a little something...

I am going to replay ALL the Dragon Age games, with the goal of getting all the achievements and seeing any and all lore I might have missed out on in the past 12(ish) years.

Currently reading: The Coldest Girl in Coldtown. For a book that's been on my to-read list for twelve years, it's holding up pretty well. Even has a bi character, even if he's a manipulative asshat. Also, a vampire story where the vampires are properly scary. As they should be.

Currently watching Matt Smith's run on Doctor Who, and also rewatching Good Omens for the umpteeth time. I'm also looking forward to season 3 of Hacks.

I have most of the interior colors done (there's some additional layering I want to practice before committing) and the tree base color (mostly), though much of it will disappear under the "oxidation" color layer, I think.

This is also my last week of working out of the house/for a paycheck so after I have a chance to catch some energy, I may catch up on reading and get a little further. 😄
