Yesterday I just had the desire to dress in hime (gyaru) lolita so badly, since I haven't done it in a long time...!

I used to be obsessed with hime gyaru in 2010-2013, and I think I want to wear it more often -- I'm even getting my nails done for the first time this week ♥️

I'm nervous because I use my hands so often at work and home, but I'll just get a short style...!

I love feeling like a princess and putting time into looking like one...! I like romanticizing my life ♥️

A preview of one of our favorite zine spreads! This is from a series of interviews conducted by our prose editor, Sunny, featuring various Butches and Femmes. This excerpt features Nico, a saccharine sweet femme with a penchant for Hime-Kaji (AKA “princess casual”) fashion! 🤍💒

"I think that I struggled with the identity of femininity and, I guess being a girl, for a long time. And you know, there was a time period in my life where I was really, sort of, questioning my sexuality and gender and dressed very - this was when I was a freshman in high school - I dressed very, sort of, masculine, even though I had a baby-face and was very short… Because I didn't know what it meant to be gay or to be a lesbian. And the stereotype of lesbians… So I really was trying to find myself. I started to come to terms with who I was and also who I wanted to be, and I realized - I had a butch lesbian teacher in high school, and I think she really inspired me in a lot of ways. One time she gave me a B+ and I cried. Because I wanted to impress her so much! But she really was like a lesbian mentor to me, I guess. And I realized I could be feminine in the way that I wanted, and being femme to me, is rejecting you know, presenting femininely for like, male attention. I think I started dressing in that tacky, like, you know like Enid from Wednesday? It was kind of like that, that kind of style. I wore a lot of sweaters with like, ducks on them. I was really into that. So that was me in high school."
