Thoughts keep rattling in my head after reading the latest news on Yuzu’s divorce. No words of anger, disbelief, sadness, or sympathy can nearly cover my reaction, much less the reality the affected ones are experiencing.

To think that after finding a loved one to spend the rest of his life with, the autonomy to stay with her was taken away by the hulking, ugly price of media attention. Truly caught between a rock and a hard place — he showed us a sliver of his personal life with his marriage in the cautious hopes of also getting privacy and respect without further speculation in return…but speculation and violations were exactly what he was hit with.

I have no knowledge of what legal actions he could have taken, but what is clear is that Yuzuru Hanyu has been treated by media and perverse individuals as an object, a zoo animal, with no real respect. What’s even more disheartening is I don’t know if this situation could have been avoided between their desire for complete privacy and the opposing obsessive parties aiming to intrude as far as they can into his life. What a sad and disturbing reality to live in, that Yuzu is now a divorced man with the right to more than 5 lifetimes of media bitterness.
