I had considered hiking Mount Washington for many years, but I hadn't done any hikes with any real elevation gains (over a few hundred feet) until I went on my road trip out west. Even then, the largest elevation gain I had in a single hike was 2,956 feet (hiking back up to the top of the south rim of the grand canyon). That was almost a year ago and I haven't done too many hikes since then. I was able to surprise myself by hiking up 3,619 feet to the summit and even felt like I could have done more! I'm so glad that the entire group made it as well!
Mt. Washington has some of the most unpredictable and extreme weather in the world. So to be able to make it to the summit after having the hike on the calendar for a few months, I am so extremely grateful that the weather held out just long enough for us to not only reach the top safely, but also to have spectacular views from the summit with the sun out and minimal clouds! Had we hiked only a day before, we wouldn't have been able to reach the summit due to 80mph winds and had we reached the summit only a few hours later, we would have been caught in the rain with less than optimal visibility!
I'm so grateful to have met Kevin who invited me to join the group for the hike and also so grateful to meet everyone else as we had some great group chemistry!
