36&37/48 09/16/2011 Adams & Madison Part 2 Lucy! So I found out that the moose was an adolescent female that was pretty well established and known about that year. I was told that she was being called Lucy by the guy at Lowe’s Store but feel like I’m a fool for believing it now that I spelled it out 🤔 WHELP! She’s Lucy now! She pretty much lived up and down Valleyway and was famously doleful and oblivious. It’s never okay to be that close to a wild animal (no bigger than your thumb) but in my defense I was up hiding on the propane deck. The photo where she is looking was because the guy from CT whistled.. then she stared at us for like five minutes.. live and learn. At any rate she was a blessing and made my birthday indelibly stick out in my mind as the best ever.

01/07/2021 - Washington — I hadn’t been up Washington in seven years! Really great to get back up there. Especially with an under cast that let Monroe peek out. The we kept good pace and by the top where it was virtually windless and with the sun out it was (in my opinion) actually kind of warm. 45/48x5 - 02/21/2021 - Over to Waumbek Snow pack was fine for bear-booting. On Waumbek the view was pretty great. Matt tipped a limb with about 40lbs of snow on me when nobody was looking and the rest of the hike was just annoying grab ass tit-for-tat. December 31st 2018 - Tecumseh/Adams/Madison—————We got a group together for New Years. Great overnight at Crag and minor nonsense aside it was a great day! Headed back over Abigail.

January 30/31st 2021 Annual Winter Bonds Overnight w/ BK Down Zealand Road, up Hale Brook, broke out Lend-a-Hand, and Twinway from Zeacliff on. Hovering around 0 made this one sketchy for sure. Most of my overnights are usually in the teens. Sounds silly but the difference is stark. We thought we might have to set up tents to spare toes but pushed through. Got a bleb on my big toe. Very superficial. Had to breakout the trail to Guyot. Great night in the shelter. Always fun to be out with BK. 
1/31 was a BLUEBIRD day. We awoke to a pristine balmy 8°s sunrise. We took longer in the bond summits than I ever have. Probably an hour on Bondcliff before the long slog to my truck at Lincoln woods. 24ish miles all around. Next year’s hike is hopefully a three day December Pemi trip!

36&37/48 09/16/2011 Adams & Madison Part 1
I woke up to a bit of undercast and hiked up to the ridgeline and over Adams. After that I rockhopped to John Quincy Adams for an aerial view of Star Lake. Note the Canadians camping in the photo A.) above 3500’ B.) in the Alpine Zone and C.) just right in the fucking vegetation. All of those things are not kosher and pretty much started the slippery slope of my opinion on Canadian hikers. I ran down to speak with them but of course I don’t speak French and they just smiled at me like children. Sense my animosity..? Judge away I have lots of supportive evidence for my theory that they are oblivious to minimum impact and Leave No Trace. MOVING ON. On my way down to try to reason with the queebs I bumped into an adolescent moose! She was grazing down by the hut. It worked out because I had absolutely no clue how I was going to get to my car and I struck a deal with guys from CT. “If I show you a moose will you give me a ride to my car?” Of course they were onboard and we shook on it. We hiked up Madison together and down to the Appalachian Trailhead. The waterfall is Lower Duck Falls. I felt pretty bad when I realized my car was more an an hours’s drive away but they asked why I was hiking and when I said it was my birthday they were actually kind of stoked to give me the ride.
