Hey 2023! ✨

I know I’m late by a month, but I’ve been quite busy... I’m in two weddings this year, and most of my time has been spent working on the Save The Date cards for one of them. :P

Anyway, I took time in between the wedding stuff and was able to redesign Hikaru Akiyama; aka Hibana! I really love the way she turned out! I also love how the t-shirt artwork turned out too. ^_^

I want to redraw Kohaku next! Or actually draw Hikaru & Kohaku making a “TokTik” together. ^_^ Here’s hoping I have enough energy to do that in between this busy year. :P

Let’s finally get 2022 STARTED!!!

You may already have an idea as to who this might be, but in cause you don’t know, this is my 2022 redesign of Kohaku Wakahisa-Vera. Her design is visually inspired by cyberpunk concept art, robots, ceremonial diablo masks, and Kamen Rider Momotaros (the red dude). You can also see a bit of her father there, who I completed last year and even made a song for. I’m also working on a 2022 redesign of Hikaru Akiyama, the kid in the hat. The second to last pic is of a possible logo for Kohaku’s lucha character.

I’m also gonna share a screenshot of where these characters usually end up: a giant google doc. I updated the format, and Kohaku’s backstory. (She’ll always be a work in progress, but this is as far as I got over the course of two full days of work... :P) Welp, hope you’ve been having a blast so far this year, and hopefully I can get the courage to ACTUALLY POST MORE on tumblr. (Feel free to encourage me... I need encouragement. TT^TT)

Meet Hikaru Akiyama Aka: Hibana (Firebrand, 火花)

Born in Takamatsu, Kagawa Japan, Hikaru had an eye for wildlife. She’s always been interested in nature, specifically plant life.

Hikaru spent most of her youth playing, exploring, and enjoying the lush, green earth of Ritsurin Garden. When she turned 14, Hikaru’s parents moved to San Francisco, California. She found a new sanctuary of floral solitude, Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, while she was attending her required state education. But she missed the garden and flora of Kagawa. After begging her parents to move back to Japan, Hikaru left home to attend university alone to become a botanist.

However, things took a turn for the worst. During her studies, Hikaru lost both her parents in a forest fire while they were vacationing close to Del Norte Park. This threw Hikaru into a massive depression. She shut herself off to the world and eventually was kicked out of Kagawa University. Having no other living relatives, and after spending the last of her money, Hikaru was left to wander. As she traveled, she worked multiple odd jobs to survive. And after being homeless for a year, Hikaru had almost lost all hope.

One day, Hikaru found a posted flyer describing a fighting match.”Enter the ring and stay in for 3 minutes with a reward of 50,000 yen (450 USD). New talent encouraged!”. She had never been in a fight before, but she was desperate. This was her last option. Hikaru enters the ring, challenges her opponent, and beats them in record time. It was a shock to her and the spectators. After the match, Hikaru was pulled aside by one of those spectators. This was none other than Katashi Kita, the co-founder of KWU (Kyoto Wrestling Union)! They believed she had the talent, and the two of them worked out a deal. Since then, Hikaru trains At KWU and saves her money in hopes of one day to returning to school to become a botanist.

At that time, I went on a drawing-binge and didn’t stop to do her line art. So sorry she’s still in a sketchy phase. And now that I’ve named an organization (KWU), guess I gotta come up with a logo sometime in the future.

I didn’t notice it till later, but Hikaru and Kohaku look like they’d be tight buds.

Hello hello hello! I’m baaack~

Bringing another 2022 redesign of a wrestler character I’ve posted here before,  Hikaru Akiyama! I know in the previous post she was wearing more of a tracksuit, but I changed it to something more “legible”. I’m also showing a bit of the current logo for KBU (Kyoto Brawler’s Union), which is the promotion Hikaru wrestles for. I’m not really head over heels for it yet, but I thought it’d still be neat to share. (If you read both of the 2022 Hikaru and Kohaku backstories... they’re more than just “best buds” now. I ship them100%.)
