First Look: The Audi RS 4 Avant Bronze Edition
Built for stealth with its Vesuvius Grey paint and black detailing, yet also shot through with a bold as brass streak evident in its stunning 20-inch bronze milled wheels, the new RS 4 Avant Bronze Edition is a car of contrasts. Limited to just 25 examples in the UK, this short-run addition to the RS 4 range is available to order now priced at £82,395 OTR, and features an exceptional standard specification that in some respects plays down the super Avant’s flared and muscle-bound stance, but in others renders it even more eye-catching.
Updated externally in late 2019 by the latest Audi design hallmarks, and internally by an advanced new touch-screen MMI Touch operating system, the RS 4 Avant is shown in a new light by the exclusive paint finish and distinctive wheels that set the Bronze Edition apart, and a number of key details help to complete the look. Starting upfront, they include a high gloss black finish for the Singleframe and front air intake surrounds, which are complemented by a matte carbon lip spoiler. In profile, black roof rails and window surrounds and matte carbon mirror housings also help to darken the mood, as does a matte carbon diffuser with a high gloss black insert at the rear.
The overlap between low key and high profile is also emphasized by the RS sport exhaust system, which is another additional standard feature of the Bronze Edition that replaces the usual brightwork of the two trademark oval RS tailpipe trims with black equivalents, and also amplifies the already strident soundtrack played by the 450PS, 2.9-liter TFSI.
Inside, the striking milled wheels are referenced by bronze contrast stitching for the black Fine Nappa leather super sport seats. This limited edition model also features additional Fine Nappa leather elements in the sides of the center console and the armrests, which are also trimmed with bronze stitching, as are the leather-rimmed steering wheel and gear lever gaiter. Carbon detailing is also carried through from the exterior into the matte carbon twill inlays which perfectly complement the contrast-stitched leather.
The Bronze Edition also takes on board some additional useful features, as well as some luxuries, as part of its standard Comfort and Sound Pack. This includes the Advanced Key system, which enables the keyholder to unlock and open the car by simply lifting each door handle without needing the key in-hand, and also brings electric hands-free opening for the powered tailgate, enabling access to up to 1,495 liters of luggage space by simply touching a foot on a sensor mounted in the rear bumper underside. It also adds a 360-degree camera that uses wide-angle lenses to pick up the entire perimeter of the car and offers a ‘bird’s eye view’ feature, plus extended LED interior lighting that can bathe the interior in a variety of colors configurable via the MMI. Last but by no means least, it brings an upgrade to Bang & Olufsen audio delivering a 755-watt output via 19 speakers.
The core standard equipment list for the RS 4 Avant Bronze Edition takes the standard car as its basis, and as befits a model in the Audi Sport stable that list is of course extensive. It includes everything from Matrix LED headlights and MMI Navigation Plus to massaging front seats, the Audi Virtual Cockpit with RS-specific screens and Audi Phonebox wireless handset charging.
The 10.1-inch MMI touch display is the nerve center of the latest RS 4 cabin. Tilted slightly towards the driver, the touch-sensitive screen provides acoustic feedback and takes over the functions of the previous rotary pushbutton on the center console. The driver can use the RS monitor to call up an overview of drive system component temperatures, maximum g-forces and information regarding tire pressures and temperatures. In the Audi virtual cockpit, the special RS displays provide information on tire pressure, torque, power output, engine oil temperature, lap timings, acceleration measurements and g-forces. A shift light display is also included to prompt the driver to upshift when the rev limit is reached.
The limited edition RS 4 Avant Bronze Edition temporarily expands the latest UK RS 4 family to four members. The line-up also includes the ‘standard’ RS 4 Avant, the RS 4 Avant Carbon Black and the RS 4 Avant Vorsprung, each offering a slightly different take on the superfast Avant theme that will suit enthusiasts who prefer to keep a relatively low profile, those with more extrovert tastes and those for whom luxury and the latest technological developments carry as much weight as cornering capability and pace.
Aside from the powerfully built Avant body, the common ground shared by all four variants is of course the formidable twin-turbo V6 TFSI. Offering 450PS and a 600Nm torque peak in each, it facilitates acceleration from zero to 62mph in just 4.1 seconds, and storms onwards to a limited top speed of 155mph in the RS 4 Avant, RS 4 Avant Carbon Black and RS 4 Bronze Edition, or 174mph in the RS 4 Avant Vorsprung. The high-output V6 impresses not only with its strong performance but also with its high level of efficiency. In the new WLTP driving cycle, it returns up to 30.7mpg,  which corresponds to 211 grams of CO2 per kilometer (NEDC-derived).
The power of the 2.9 TFSI flows to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system via an eight-speed tiptronic transmission which in regular driving delivers 60 percent of torque to the rear axle and 40 percent to the front by way of a purely mechanical center differential. Up to 70 percent can be delivered to the front or up to 85 percent to the rear in more demanding driving situations, during which wheel-selective torque control also intervenes, braking the wheels on the inside of the bend very slightly to give the car a supportive push into the bend and impart a precise, agile and neutral feel. The standard quattro sport differential with RS-specific tuning also sharpens dynamic response in corners by distributing torque between the rear wheels actively and in a targeted manner.
In the RS 4 Avant Bronze Edition, like its standard and Carbon Black counterparts, quattro agility and reassurance is delivered with the help of a sophisticated five-link front and rear RS-specific suspension that enables the optimal absorption of longitudinal and lateral forces. The driver can tailor the driving experience to suit via the standard Audi drive select dynamic handling system, which now features five profiles: comfort, auto, dynamic and the new customization RS1 and RS2 modes. The new RS modes are easily accessible via steering wheel-mounted buttons, making it easier than ever for the driver to set the car up to suit his or her mood or driving route.

Audi R8 Refreshed With Sharper Look And Up To 612 HP
Revised stability control programming lets the top model come to a stop 4.9 feet sooner from 62 mph.
Audi unveils a slick refresh for the R8, and contrary to rumors, the supercar sticks with a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter 10 rather than downsizing to a turbocharged V6. The powerplant even gets a boost in output, and there are other technological upgrades to make the machine even sharper on the road.
Aesthetically, the new R8 has a sharper look. The designers make the center portion of the grille wider and incorporate angular uprights to separate the corner intakes. At the back, a vent now extends across the entire tail, and the diffuser is far more prominent. Audi also revises the look in the engine bay by fitting a new three-piece cover that hides components like the air filter. The base R8 has high-gloss black trim on the exterior, and the R8 V10 Performance Quattro (the company’s new name for the R8 V10 Plus) has a matte titanium finish. High-gloss carbon fiber is an option for both models. In addition, there’s an optional carbon fiber-reinforced polymer front splitter that saves 4.4 pounds (2 kilograms).
See the racing version:
The refreshed R8’s cabin is largely the same other than tweaked upholstery colors.
In the standard R8, the V10 now produces 562 horsepower (419 kilowatts) and 405.7 pound-feet (550 Newton-meters) of torque, which is a boost of 30 hp (22 kW) and 7.4 lb-ft (10 Nm) over the previous version. The updated powerplant gets the coupe to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 3.4 seconds or 3.5 seconds for the convertible. The hardtop can achieve a top speed of 201.3 mph (324kph) or 200.1 mph (322 kph) for the droptop.
The Audi R8 V10 Performance Quattro, and its 5.2-liter V10 now makes 612 hp (456 kW) and 427.8 lb-ft (580 Nm) – an increase of 9 hp (7 kW) and 14.75 lb-ft (20 Nm). The more potent powerplant gets the coupe to 62 mph in 3.1 seconds or 3.2 seconds for the Spyder. In addition, the hardtop can reach 205.7 mph (331 kph) or 204.4 mph (329 kph) for the convertible.
The engineers also tweak the R8’s suspension tech. For example, the drive select dynamic handling system has more distinct separations between the drive modes, and there are three new settings for the R8 V10 Performance Quattro: dry, wet, and snow. Revisions to the stability control programming also let the top model brake to a stop from 62 mph in 4.9 feet (1.5 meters) less distance and 16.4 feet (5 meters) shorter from 124 mph (200 kph).
The updated R8 will go on sale in Europe in the first quarter of 2019.

Fastest model is now even sharper: Extensive update for Audi R8
  More power and torque for the V10 naturally aspirated engines   Modified suspension components for even more dynamic handling   Striking exterior design, start of pre-sales in early 2019
Neckarsulm, October 24, 2018 – “Born on the track, built for the road.” The volume- production model now follows after the world premiere of the R8 LMS GT3 at the Paris Motor Show. Apart from the sportier design, the performance of the Coupé and Spyder has been enhanced. The power of the two V10 naturally aspirated engines is uprated to 419 kW (570 hp) and 456 kW (620 hp). The models will go on sale in Europe in early 2019.
“The R8 occupies a unique position for Audi in every respect,” says Michael-Julius Renz, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH. “It’s now even more powerful and faster.” adds Oliver Hoffmann, Technical Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH: “Motorsport is part of our DNA. With around 50 percent shared parts with the R8 LMS GT3, no other automobile is so close to motor racing as the R8.”
Even more power and torque: the engines
Instant response, lightning-fast high-revving and a unique sound – the heart of the Audi R8 is its V10 naturally aspirated engine. With the basic unit, the 397 kW (540 hp) of power has been increased to 419 kW (570 hp), the torque boosted by 10 Nm (7.4 lb-ft) to 550 Nm (405.7 lb-ft), which is on tap at 6,500 revolutions per minute. The Audi R8 V10 quattro accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62.1 mph) in 3.4 seconds (Coupé) and 3.5 seconds (Spyder) before going on to a top speed of 324/322 km/h (201.3/200.1 mph).
The 5.2 FSI in the Audi R8 V10 performance quattro generates 456 kW (620 hp) instead of the previous 449 kW (610 hp), with peak torque of 580 Nm (427.8 lb-ft) substituting the previous 560 Nm (413.0 lb-ft). The increase here is primarily the result of an optimized valve train with components made of titanium. The Coupé sprints to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in
3.1 seconds, the Spyder with the same tires takes 3.2 seconds. The propulsive power ends at 331/329 km/h (205.7/204.4 mph). The two V10 naturally aspirated engines with 5.2 liters of displacement come with a particulate filter to reduce emissions more effectively.
Razor-sharp precision: the suspension
Modifications to the suspension provide even more stability and precision. The assistance has been retuned both with the optional dynamic steering and the electromechanical power steering. Steering response, transitions between individual drive modes and feedback from the road come across as even more precise across the entire speed range.
In addition, Audi Sport has separated the profiles of the Audi drive select dynamic handling system – comfort, auto, dynamic and individual – even more sharply from each other and made them more precise. On the R8 V10 performance quattro the three additional programs dry, wet and snow form standard part of the Performance mode. They adapt the key dynamic parameters to the friction coefficient of the road. Thanks to the enhanced Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC), the Audi R8 V10 performance brakes from 100 km/h (62.1 mph) to a standstill up to 1.5 meters (4.9 ft) earlier; the stopping distance from 200 km/h (124.3 mph) is up to five meters (16.4 ft) shorter – in each case depending on the exterior conditions.
The new Audi R8 is equipped with factory-installed 19-inch wheels. 20-inch wheels in five-V dynamic design with new summer and sport tires, which convey even more precise handling, are available as an option. For the standard-fit steel discs Audi supplies red as opposed to black painted calipers as an option. The ceramic brakes generally come with a gray or red finish. The stabilizer at the front is optionally made from carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) and aluminum, which cuts weight by around two kilograms (4.4 lb).
Sharper and tauter: the design
The honed character of the new R8 models also becomes clear visually. The Singleframe radiator grille has an even wider, flatter line. Thick bars divide up the large air inlets, and flat slits in the hood are reminiscent of the Audi Ur-quattro brand icon. The new front splitter is now wider, underscoring the sporty look. The air vent grille runs across the full width; the diffuser has been drawn upward, making the R8 seem even wider. In the engine compartment the air filter is situated under a new, three-part cover, which is available in a choice of plastic or carbon fiber.
R8 customers can choose from three exterior packages depending on the engine variant; these packages add various highlights to the front splitter, the side trims and the diffuser. Standard specification for the R8 V10 quattro with 419 kW (570 hp) is high-gloss black; the top-of-the- line version R8 V10 performance quattro with 456 kW (620 hp) comes off the production line with a matte titanium look. The high-gloss carbon package is available for both engine variants. As an option, the Audi rings and badges on the exterior are painted in high-gloss black; the new metallic colors Kemora gray and Ascari blue are recent additions to the paint range.
The new look also includes the Audi R8 interior with its driver focus. New options here include the colors pastel silver with rock gray contrasting stitching, palomino brown with steel gray stitching, and black with utopia blue stitching. The R8 performance design package with leather/Alcantara upholstery, highlights in Mercato blue and carbon-fiber trim is available for the top-of-the-line engine variants. The Audi exclusive range gives customers the opportunity to customize many details of their Audi R8 – inside and out.
New model designations
The sale will start in early 2019. During the first quarter of 2019, the new Audi R8 models will be available in dealerships in Germany and other European countries. Audi is introducing new model designations with the upgrade of the R8. The R8 Coupé/Spyder V10 will become the R8 Coupé/Spyder V10 quattro models; the Audi R8 Coupé/Spyder V10 plus are now called Audi R8 Coupé/Spyder V10 performance quattro – an analogy to the most powerful RS models from Audi Sport.
Exclusive handicraft: R8 sports car manufacture
The Audi R8 is produced under the management of Audi Sport GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of AUDI AG, at the “Audi Böllinger Höfen” site in Heilbronn – very close to the tradition-rich location of Neckarsulm. Up to 500 highly-qualified employees work here at the 30,000 m2 production site.
The R8 production is organized as a flexible factory – where Audi Sport GmbH is further expanding its competence with regards to small batch production. Self-driving assembly skids, known as driverless transport systems (DTS), are not only used to carry the finished, painted body, but also for assembly, and replace the classic conveyor technology system. The DTS transport system has autonomous navigation that uses environmental features and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) as well as high-performance capacitors. During assembly, the employees perform a large proportion of the manual activities in 15 cycles.
Flexibility is extremely important at the “Audi Böllinger Höfen” site – alongside the series models, the employees also produce the R8 LMS GT4. This demands a permanent transfer of technology from the motorsport sector, as well as very strong qualifications due to the complexity of the work processes.
Before delivery, every new high-performance sports car must pass a demanding acceptance process. This is followed by a quality inspection on the factory’s own test track and a test drive on public roads. Only then is the new Audi released for delivery to the customer.

Dimensions
The car’s all-new 2.9 TFSI biturbo engine produces 331 kW (450 hp) and delivers 600 Nm (442.5 lb-ft) of torque. Standard quattro drive distributes the power to all four wheels.
“The new Audi RS 5 Coupé is the gran turismo among the RS models from Audi Sport. The high-performance Coupé combines elegant aesthetics with high everyday usability. The car’s V6 biturbo has been developed from the ground up and provides significantly more performance coupled with higher efficiency,” said Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Audi Sport GmbH, in describing the new model.
The designers drew inspiration for the RS 5 Coupé from the distinctive racing details of the Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO. Massive air inlets with the honeycomb structure typical of RS models characterize the front end of the new Audi RS 5 Coupé. The Singleframe radiator grille is much wider and flatter than in the base model. Next to the headlights are additional lateral air intakes and outlets; tinted bezels differentiate the optional Matrix LED headlights. quattro blisters on the flanks emphasize the pronounced bulges over the wheel arches, which have been widened by 15 millimeters (0.6 in).
Sporty accents are provided by the RS-specific diffuser insert, the oval tailpipes of the RS exhaust system and surface-mounted spoiler lip. The RS 5 Coupé rolls standard on 19-inch wheels, with 20-inch wheels available as an option. The appearance packages – gloss black, carbon and matt aluminum – provide even more customization options. With a length of 4,723 millimeters (185.9 in), the new Audi RS 5 Coupé is 74 millimeters (2.9 in) longer than the previous model.
The 2.9 TFSI V6 biturbo engine, which Audi developed from the ground up, offers sharp increases in power and efficiency as well as an incomparably full-bodied RS sound. It produces 331 kW (450 hp). Its peak torque of 600 Nm (442.5 lb-ft) – up 170 Nm (125.4 lb-ft) from the previous model – is available across a wide band from 1,900 to 5,000 rpm. The top model in the A5 family sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 3.9 seconds and with the optional dynamic package reaches a top speed of 280 km/h (174.0 mph).
The 2.9 TFSI unit’s two turbochargers are positioned centrally between the cylinder banks. The ingested air flows to the respective turbocharger and into the combustion chambers through a dual-branch system for spontaneous response. The B-cycle combustion process with central direct injection represents a new level of efficiency among the RS models. The shortened compression stroke used here enables an engine process with a significantly higher geometric compression ratio. Combined with a power stroke that, while normal, is longer relative to the compression stroke, this allows for more efficient combustion and increased engine efficiency. In the NEDC, the V6 biturbo consumes just 8.7 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (27.0 US mpg), corresponding to 197 grams CO2 per kilometer (317.0 g/mi). This is an efficiency gain of 17 percent over the previous model. Another factor in the greater efficiency of the newRS 5 Coupé is its significantly lower weight. It tips the scales at 1,655 kilograms (3,648.7 lb), 60 kilograms (132.3 lb) less than before. A roof of carbon with a visible fiber structure is available as an option.
The biturbo’s power flows through a sportily-tuned, eight-speed tiptronic with optimized shift times to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive. The drive forces are distributed asymmetrically to the axles (40:60) to guarantee dynamic handling with optimal traction and the greatest possible safety. Audi Sport also offers an optional rear sport differential.
An updated five-link construction is used on the front axle. At the rear, a five-link suspension replaces the trapezoidal-link suspension used on the previous model. This benefits the sporty driving characteristics and agility. It also improves comfort significantly. With the standard RS sport suspension, the new Audi RS 5 Coupé sits much lower than the production model.
Audi Sport also offers the RS sport suspension with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC), ceramic brakes and dynamic steering with RS-specific tuning. Drivers can make their personal driving experience more individual, dynamic or comfortable using the standard Audi drive select system.
Bathed in black, the interior of the new Audi RS 5 Coupé is extremely upscale and sportily appointed. Details such as RS sport seats with optional diamond stitching in Fine Nappa leather and the flat-bottomed RS multifunction sport steering wheel underscore the character of the high-performance coupe in the interior as well. There are RS logos on the seats, steering wheel, door sill trims and the selector lever. Special RS displays in the Audi virtual cockpit provide information on tire pressure, torque and g-forces. A shift light prompts the driver to upshift upon reaching the rev limit. The RS design package uses red as a sporty contrasting color. Package highlights are the steering wheel, selector lever and knee pads in Alcantara plus seat belts contoured in red and floor mats with the RS emblem. Audi Sport offers Sonoma green metallic as an exclusive paint finish for the RS 5 Coupé.
A comprehensive range of infotainment choices is sure to keep everyone on board entertained. The optional MMI navigation plus with MMI touch includes the hardware module Audi connect, which connects the new RS 5 Coupé to the internet via LTE. Thanks to the Audi connect SIM, which is permanently installed in the car, the flat rate data package for the connect services including Europe-wide roaming is free of charge for three years. Passengers can go online with their mobile devices via the Wi-Fi hotspot option. The Audi smartphone interface uses Apple Car Play and Android Auto to make selected apps available in a separate MMI menu. Control is easy and intuitive, thanks to natural language voice control, free text search and the multifunction steering wheel. The touchpad in the center console is used to zoom, scroll and enter characters. Further high-end technologies, such as the head-up display and as many as 30 driver assistance systems enhance safety, comfort and efficiency. The intelligent interplay between these systems represents another step on the road to piloted driving.
Over 13,000 units of the first-generation Audi RS 5 Coupé have been delivered to customers since 2010. The new high-performance coupé is coming to dealerships in Germany and other European countries in June 2017. The price is EUR 80,900.

2017 Audi R8 Spyder
The 2017 Audi R8 Spyder unleashes its truly remarkable power through a 540-hp FSI® V10 engine with 398 lb-ft of torque and an impressive 3.5-second 0 to 60 mph time.speed-traffic-laws The mid-engine concept also provides ideal vehicle balance and weight transfer.
The seven-speed S tronic® dual-clutch transmission utilizes two clutches and two gear sets. Gearshifts are executed in only 120 milliseconds when in sport mode for ultimate power in little time.
A sports car is only as good as it corners, and that’s where quattro® all-wheel drive comes into play. Specifically developed for the R8, this quattro® system with torque vectoring helps provide exceptional traction and more confidence when accelerating from a stop and tackling the road’s challenging twists and turns. The R8 Spyder doesn’t merely turn corners and take on curves — it claims them as its own.
The Audi drive select system lets you personalize your driving experience with four driving modes that modify various vehicle performance characteristics to help tailor your R8 Spyder to suit your driving style.
Available on the R8 V10 Spyder, carbon ceramic brake discs are 8.82 lbs lighter in contrast to traditional cast-iron rotors and offer increased resistance to fade as well as an extended service life. They come finished in a sporty Anthracite Gray and feature the Audi ceramic logo.
The new R8 Spyder embodies expertise in lightweight design through an all-new application of the iconic ASF® lightweight chassis through the use of a high percentage of carbon fiber materials. This new multi-material construction has not only helped lessen the vehicle’s static and dynamic weight, it also allows for the achievement of improved chassis performance.
Audi magnetic ride is standard on the R8 V10 Spyder. Using a blend of hydrocarbon oil containing tiny magnetic particles, Audi magnetic ride helps adjust the firmness of the dampers by creating an electronically charged magnetic field within the shock absorber. Damper control can provide Dynamic, Comfort or Auto settings through the Audi drive select system.
Aerodynamic design is key when engineering a sports car. The R8 Spyder strikes an optimal balance between aerodynamic drag and downforce.
With cutting-edge technologies like Audi virtual cockpit and Audi connect® PRIME with Google Earth™, the R8 Spyder has the smarts to keep up with its speed.speed-traffic-laws Add in the Bang & Olufsen® Sound System for an even more exceptional drive.
The standard Audi virtual cockpit is a fully digital 12.3-inch information cluster that communicates information such as navigation, audio and compatible phone, offering classic and infotainment modes as well as Google Earth™ or Google Street View™ screen options. It’s time for the information age to really shed light.
The standard MMI® navigation plus system provides available Audi connect®, enabling Google Earth™ with 3D satellite imagery, a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to eight passenger devices, local traffic and weather, flight information, news and more.
MMI® touch with handwriting-recognition technology allows the driver to “write” their entry, rather than having to select letters or numbers.
With 13 speakers and an impressive 505 watts of power, this standard premium audio system provides exceptional sound reproduction and clarity.
