Nick and Hazels house
It has been 5 years, 2 months and 22 days since Nick and Hazel ran away from home. They packed their things and left the night of the dreaded dinner. With two duffel bags filled with clothes and two backpacks filled with other supplies they left to Maryland. Nick took his savings from the multiple student jobs he did for years to buy two train tickets to Maryland. Hazel left a note for Benjamin, telling him how much she loves her brother and that she will try to keep in contact with him.
The couple didn’t know what their parents would do. If they would let them be or inform the cops and started looking for them. The only idea that the two teenagers could think about was changing their appearance. Before the train left they bougth hair dye and scissors. They changed hazels beautiful longe blonde hair in short black locks. Nick went a little bolder with his hair. He dyed one part of his hair blue and the other part black. Hazel though he looked very good. They both wore glasses and hats to hide more of their identity. They also left their phones at home, not wanted to get tracked.
When they arrived in Maryland. They applied to have their name changed. Again a plan of them to hide their identity. Nick got accepted into the naval academy and he knew his dad would know if his surname was still Bradshaw. Their changed names: Nicolas Peter Bradshaw became Nicolas Peter Bradfield and Hazel Alexandra Seresin became Hazel Alexandra Serpell. With the acceptance, he had to change his hair color again, since multicolored hair wasn’t allowed. He decided to go blonde.
Had they taken this a little too far? Maybe. But they were determined to raise this baby the best that they could.
After living for 3 months in a homeless shelter, they found a small apartment. It wasn’t in the best neighborhood, but it was affordable with the small amount of money the couple earned with their small jobs. Nick worked as a construction worker for 2 months before finding out he was accepted in the academy. Hazel worked at a small café and managed to get into an evening school to finish her high school degree.
They may haven’t had much, but they were happy. And their little family got bigger on November 25, 2041 when their kids were born. Yes, kids. The couple had twins. Twin boys to be specific. Their names: Benji Theodore Bradfield and Mac Adrian Bradfield. Their firstborn was named after Hazels brother, who she kept in contact with. Occasionally she would send a letter to her brother and Benjamin kept them away from his parents. He didn’t take it very well when he found out that his parents were going to force his sister to have an abortion.
When their parents found out their kids ran away, they went out of their way to look for them. The dads were determined to find their kids, while their mothers were worried more about the dangers they could be in. After a half year of looking for them, their hope left little by little. The fathers, who weren’t really good friend anymore after the dinner, realised their mistakes. It took a while for them to become friends like they were before, but they were as good as they could be after losing their children. The Bradshaw family were lucky with Sparky. A reminder of their son while it took the Seresin family a little longer to accept the disappearance of their youngest and only girl.
After 2 years the couple moved out of their apartment to a smaller house in a nicer neighborhood. Nick had still 2 years left of his education in de academy. During the first year he had received the callsign Dash. Hazel couldn’t stop laughing when he explained the meaning behind the name. Dash: Dumb Ass Shit. Given to him by a friend after Nick threw up all over a commanders officers shoes after a night out.
Hazel found a better paid job in a clothing store. Having a low paid serving job and trying to save as much money as possible. Hazel tried to save money with upcycling baby clothes from the thrift shop. She realised that she had a talent for sewing and designing clothes. Apart from her job in the clothing store she follows an online course for fashion design. The lives of the couple went well and they never regretted leaving their homes at such a young age.

Nick and Hazels house
Back to the present
Hazels age: 21, Nicks age: 23, the kids ages: 4
It was almost 5:30 pm and Hazel was making dinner for her family. The two 4 year old brothers were in the kitchen with her. Benji was coloring a Bluey coloring book while Mac was playing with a kids puzzle. Benji was the loud one out of the two while Mac liked to stay in the background. They were a perfect combination of both Nick and Hazel. They had Hazels Natural light blonde hair and Nicks dark brown eyes. Even though they had Hazels nose, you could tell they were Bradshaw boys. Hazel became very fond of her short dark black hair and decided to keep it. Nick didn’t mind, because he thought she looked very sexy with her bright eyes and dark hair. Nick let his hair fade back towards his light brown color.
“Baby! I’m home!” A deep voice came from the hallway. The front door closes and Hazel called back that they were in the kitchen. Nick came into view. He was wearing his flightsuit and had a big smile on his face. “Here are my favorite people” he said. “Daddy!” The young boys at the dinner table rushed off their chairs and jumped into the opened arms of their dad. “My boys! How was your day?” He asked, hugging his sons close to him. “Daddy! I read a whole book today.” Mac told his dad, while smiling brightly. “A whole book?! Wow kiddo, you’re becoming as smart as your mom.” Nick said smiling up at his girlfriend. After talking about their exciting day in kindergarten, both boys went back to their activity.
“I have news” Nick said, hugging Hazel from behind while she was sturing a sauce in a pan. “Good news or bad news?” She asked, turning her head slightly to look into Nicks eyes. “Both, I guess” Nick put his chin on her shoulder. “Me and T-rex got into Top Gun” he said. Hazel eyes went wide and she turned around in his arms. “That’s amazing honey!” She said exciting, hugging him with her hands around his neck. “I’m so proud of you and T-Rex.” she said. T-Rex, government name: Connor Malcolm Oxland, was Nicks backseater. He got his callsign after eating two full racks of BBQ ribs faster than anyone else ate one. Someone commented that it was like watching a Tyronnosaurus eat.
“Yeah, we were very honored to be chosen especially since we only finished the academy a little longer than 1 year ago.” Nick and Connor were one of the best pilot and WSO duo the Navy had seen in years. It didn’t surprise Hazel that they were chosen to go to Top Gun. “Well what’s the bad news then, Lieutenant?” She asked kissing Nick on the cheek. Nick smiled. Ever since he got promoted to Lieutenant, Hazel couldn’t stop saying his rank. “I heard some officers talking in the hallway” he started. “The were talking about the Top Gun teachers that still won’t retire” Nick could feel Hazel stiffen up. Nick swallowed before continuing. “I’m 99 percent sure they were talking about our dads”

Recommending Albums 1 & 2
So technically, calling this either "Recommending Albums 1" or "Recommending Albums 2" is wrong, because my recommendation of In the Aeroplane Over the Sea was called “Recommending Video Essays #8” because I didn't know if I was ever gonna recommend another album, especially so soon. However, it's still the first instance of "Recommending Albums" as a title. So what I'm gonna do is cheat and just say that this is 1 & 2.
Recommendation 1 can be found here.
Recommendation:
The Holy Bible 20 – Manic Street Preachers
The Holy Bible 20 (or just The Holy Bible) is an album that I haven't ever really heard many people talk about. To me this is shocking, and to the annoying RateYourMusic dweller part of me, is just downright unacceptable. It also may not be that shocking in reality.
The Holy Bible came out in 1994, a single year filled with so many unbelievably influential and important albums like Illmatic by Nas, Dummy by Portishead, The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails, Grace by Jeff Buckley, Ready to Die by The Notorious B.I.G., Weezer's self-titled Blue Album, Superunknown by Soundgarden, MTV Unplugged in New York by Nirvana, and Diary by Sunny Day Real Estate. In the years before 1994 (most notably for me), My Bloody Valentine's Loveless (1991) became the singular Shoegaze album, A Tribe Called Quest's Low End Theory (1991) largely dictated what Hip-Hop would sound like for the coming decades, and Nirvana would inform the world about Seattle grunge rock with Nevermind (1991) and In Utero (1993). This train of revolutionary albums chugged through to the end of the 20th century as well with Radiohead's The Bends (1995) and Ok Computer (1997), Outkast's ATLiens (1996) and Aquemini (1998), Elliot Smith's Either/Or (1997), Lauryn Hill's The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998), Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (1998), etc. This single decade spawned so many of the most recognizable, popular, and highest rated albums of all time, so to be drowned out among the all time greats is maybe to be expected.
But, The Holy Bible 20 should absolutely be one of these recognizable classics, and absolutely deserves to be talked about as much as Rage Against the Machine's self titled debut or Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral.
The mention of these albums specifically are of particular interest for comparison as they share a lot with The Holy Bible. Rage Against the Machine is a really easy comparison to make. They're pretty similar sounding albums, although Rage Against the Machine lays way more into the metal side of Punk Rock. The Holy Bible has some really catchy riffs both in the lead guitar and bass and is just as head-bang-able as any good Punk Rock album should be. It's instruments are more often than not really clear and bright for the genre, only using heavy distortion and loud, complex sound for the choruses of songs where the energy goes way up. It's never cheery, but it definitely reflects the bands British origins. James Bradfield's voice very clearly and sharply cuts through the instrumentals when he sings and gives the most to the album's shockingly clean sound.
Both of these albums go through song-by-song, serving almost as revolutionary crys for the disgruntled group of mostly suburban high-school aged kids in the nineties who sees the flaws and cruelties of modern capitalist society and wants change. Largely aiming at the most relevant target around for this, white America and the institutions they created, the albums (in the most simple reading) go “Fuck off, I see what you're doing here and how you marginalize people. Die.” For Rage Against the Machine this most notably comes in the form of comparing the hardcore right wing accelerationists like the KKK and contemporary neo-nazi movements and modern police forces and the people who work for them, and the racial injustices spawned out of the idea of white supremacy. The album is also a call to arms to take back power for the people. “We gotta take the power back!” For The Holy Bible it's drawing the comparison between modern (for the nineties) gender politics and the systematic marginalization of anyone considered other, and a telling of how the constant re-enforcement of the “normal” affects those considered abnormal. The Holy Bible takes a more poetic approach to the overall presentation of the message compared to Rage Against the Machine, which is mostly just a really banging call to arms.
Potential Content Warning for Suicide and Self-Harm
While this an accurate summary to The Holy Bible 20 it misses the some of the finer points of the album that allowed me to make the kind of pretentious sounding comparison to Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral; an album largely about Trent Reznor's declining mental state in the face of a society who seems content with eating itself alive to keep in it's direction. The Holy Bible 20 was mostly written by Richey Edwards, who served not as the bands vocalist or a player of the instrumentals, but as the band's spokesperson and main lyricist along with the band's bassist Nicky Wire. I don't know a lot about Richey, but what I do know is that Richey was very open about having pretty severe depression and self-harm issues in interviews and from what I understand had an issue with alcohol abuse. Richey has been a missing person, since February 1, 1995, and has been legally presumed dead since 2008.
While a lot of songs can be read as, and are, really powerful critiques of how the systems of power in today's society marginalize anyone deemed unfit to be the normal, the perspective of a lot of what the album is about changes when you know that most of it was written from the perspective of someone who was really struggling with themselves mentally and would go missing 6 months after the album was released. It's not just an example of how these injustices and hardships can hurt and negatively shape and mold people into broken people, it's a first hand account. This makes a lot of the lyrics on the album even more sad and tragic than they already apparently are, and adds a new context to the entire album.
The first track “Yes” is a critique of the mind set consumerism creates for both the rich and poor, but with knowing what Richey went through, the account of the emptiness of depression starts showing through. “She is Suffering” and “4st 7lb” transforms the the messages about beauty standards into really haunting accounts of problems with self-image and self-worth. This in my opinion is what really makes this album special. It is a biting, unrelenting, extremely blunt critique of the system that disregards and hurts people for the feeling a uniform feeling of normalcy that anyone can pick-up and understand that is formed and shaped around a hidden perspective of someone that can't seem to help themselves. It's really sad, really haunting, and all of it is put over some of the most catchy riffs of the 90's.
The music is great, and really makes me feel like a kid from suburban Illinois in 1996 who really hates going to church, but what it has to say both on the surface and the more sub-textual accounts is what really makes this worth listening to.
It's one of my absolute favorite albums of all time. 10/10.
Other Recommendations:
I just talked about them a little bit, but both Rage Against the Machine (1992) and Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral (1994) are really worth listening to if you even just like music. I personally like The Downward Spiral more because of how unique it still sounds to this day, so if you can only listen to just one I would pick that one.
But don't pick just one. Listen to them both. Please listen to them both. Please. Okay thank you bye <3

22, 28 for the music asks ?
22: A song that moves you forward
I might be missing something with how literally I'm taking this, but I Travel by Simple Minds is propulsive as hell. I can remember a couple of occasions where I put this song on in my headphones and just powerwalked across campus.
28: A song by an artist with a voice that you love
So many options of course but I'm going to put Everything Must Go by Manic Street Preachers. James Dean Bradfield's high-register aggression is unmatched, and yes I have tried. Even being that far out of range, it's still an anthem and a half.
Thank ye kindly for the ask ::)

Moon on Shrooms by Marcel Bradfield
Upon the clouds, the moon reclines, a pillow so serene,
A scene of cosmic comfort, the coolest I've ever seen.
Emotions rise like tides, a dance of ebb and flow,
Positive and negative energies intertwine, aglow.
Coexisting in harmony, a delicate ballet,
One's existence relies on the other, they say.
Negativity seeks its partner, the positive's embrace,
A symphony of contrasts, a dance in time and space.
Lost at sea, just the moon and me, a voyage undefined,
Mind delves into oceanic depths, thoughts unconfined.
Drifting in the cosmos, letting divine winds prevail,
Guided by God's hand, a journey beyond the pale.
Intimate with the moon's dreamy allure, I sail,
Lost within its enchanting aura, a mesmerizing trail.
Drifting through the night, as you illuminate on high,
In your radiant embrace, I find solace, I sigh.
Moon on clouds, emotions collide,
A universe within, where dreams abide.
Guided by moonbeams, I chart my course,
Lost and found in cosmic force.

Top 10 Biggest Villages in England
Villages are quintessentially English. And when we think of the word ‘village’ we imagine a village green surrounded by gorgeous thatched cottages with roses around the door. It’s a nostalgic image but one that comes easily to mind when we consider what we think a village should look like.
And many of them do still look like this. You only have to watch episodes of Grantchester or Father Brown to know that these kinds of villages aren’t just a chocolate box image. Villages with cricket played on the green in summer and a Christmas tree in winter are dotted all around England. And they are a delight to residents and visitors alike.
But the fact is, villages don’t always look quite so picturesque. Many villages have become urbanised over time so the village green has been swallowed up by shops or housing. This may seem sad but times change and villages change with them.
What’s more, it may surprise you to learn that there’s no official designation of what a village is. If a settlement does not have a town charter, town council or licence to hold a market from the Crown, and of course is not a city, then it has every right to be called a village.
So let’s look in more detail at the villages that claim to be the biggest:
What are the biggest villages in England?
There are lots of villages that claim to be the ‘biggest’. And because there are ambiguous ‘rules’ about what makes ‘a village’ a village it’s become a grey and rather controversial area.
The Problem with Villages
There is no problem with villages as such. It’s just that many villages have become suburbs of local towns or cities. And without a buffer zone of green space and with changing local councils, it’s often hard to tell when a village is no longer a village but part of something bigger.
Many people trying to cite evidence for why their village should be the biggest, include postal addresses as an indicator. But postcodes are based on the Post Office’s practical working methods and change frequently. Thus, they are not a factor in an area’s classification as a town or village.
And there are other problems too. Some villages claim that having the largest population makes their village the biggest, others claim that the area that the Parish council governs indicates how big it is. How many facilities a village has is another factor that some people claim makes a village not a town.
For example, a village’s status could be challenged if it’s historically tied to more than one church community.
You see how difficult it is!
However, we’re going to take you through some of the villages that claim to be ‘the biggest village in England’ based on both population, area and general consensus of what constitutes a village.
Is Wombourne the biggest village in England?
Firstly, let’s tackle this question. For those living in Wombourne, or those who believe Wombourne is the largest village in England, we’re sorry to challenge that claim. Wombourne has a large population and parish area, and just about makes it into our top 10, but it’s not actually the largest.
According to the size, area and general consensus, Wombourne is actually the 10th largest village in England.
But before the inhabitants of Wombourne get angry, remember there is no official guide which designated exactly what a village is. So if Wombourne residents want to claim they’re the ‘Biggest village in England’ based on factors outside of this article, we’re not going to stop them.
So, without further ado, let’s look at the main contenders:
The 10 Biggest Villages in England
1. Bradfield, South Yorkshire
Congratulations go to Bradfield in South Yorkshire. It’s possibly the largest village in England, it’s full of history and it’s picturesque to boot.
While technically, it’s a village of two parts, calling itself High and Low Bradfield, it’s still considered by many to count as one. It has a population of over 17,000 and a huge parish area of 142.92 km2
Bradfield is nestled against the River Loxley at the bottom of a sheltered valley. Its Grade 1 listed Church, St Nicholas’, was built in the 1480s but can trace worship on the site right back to Anglo-Saxon times. There’s a village shop and post office. And it has a pub, The Old Horns Inn, which claims to have the best views of any beer garden in the Peak District. So we think that’s a good enough reason to visit England’s largest village.
2. Great Baddow, Essex
Great Baddow, in Essex, claims to be second in the ‘biggest village’ stakes based on population size and its history. Like some of the other villages in our top ten, Great Baddow is now more of a suburban village. It has been connected to Chelmsford over time through the conurbation of the city. But it is still very firmly on the outskirts and has plenty of green space that you would associate with more traditional villages.
The population is over 14,000 and it has pubs, schools and a small shopping centre. St Mary’s Church was built on a site of worship that dates back to 1172. And another historic building dating back to 1372 is still in use as a restaurant. It also has a recently opened brewery at Brewery Fields which gives another clue to part of the village’s heritage.
3. Broughton Astley, Leicestershire
This village comes third in our ‘biggest villages in England’ list. And it’s a village in the traditional sense that is surrounded by plenty of green space – that ‘green buffer’. But Broughton Astley, in Leicestershire, has many urban elements, such as a leisure centre, small shopping arcades and a few pubs.
And with a population of nearly 12,000, you can tell that the residential area is quite sprawling. This does not mean that it doesn’t have its charming elements with the quaint St Mary’s church sitting cheek-by-jowl with a babbling stream.
4. Rawmarsh, South Yorkshire
If you were walking or driving through Rawmarsh, you’d be forgiven for thinking that it was a suburb of Rotherham. As it is now connected to the large minster town by housing and industrial properties.
But because of its history as a village and its lack of town designation, it claims to be 4th on our top 10 list of biggest villages. It can’t quite claim to be the most attractive village in England as Rawmarsh is largely residential with a population of over 13,000. But it does have a beautiful church called St Mary’s and a long history dating back to the Domesday book.
5. Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire
With a heritage that can be traced back to the Anglo-Saxon settlement mentioned in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle of 949, and later in the Domesday Book, and with a population of over 12,000, Chalfont St Peter has a claim to the fifth position in our list.
The village lies between the towns of High Wycombe and Watford and is just north of the M40. Chalfont St Peter has a vibrant community with a strong sense of its identity as a village. And with pubs, a high street and a central place of worship at St Peter’s Church their claim seems a fair one to us.
6. Cranleigh, Surrey
Cranleigh in Surrey is certainly large with a population of over 12,000 at the last census. It can also claim to have plenty of lovely sights. It is about 10 miles southwest of Guildford and is close to the Weald, an ancient English forest.
The High Street is prosperous and pleasant looking. The community holds festivals, a carnival and Fun Days for local families. And being well within the London commuter belt, it’s unsurprising that it is known for its ‘café culture’.
There is a little bit of controversy about whether Cranleigh is a village or a town. And with the local tourist information group ‘Visit Surrey’ calling it a ‘small market town with a village atmosphere’, its place on the ‘biggest village’ list may be short-lived.
7. Cottingham, East Riding of Yorkshire
Cottingham’s claim to being the seventh biggest village in England is fair. Although, like many other villages on our list, it has become more or less a suburb of Hull. And with a population to rival Bradfield at over 17,000, it’s a highly residential village.
It has two high streets, Hallgate and King Street which dissect the centre of the village. It has a local school, a library and the historical church of St Mary’s in Hallgate in which the famous poet Phillip Larkin is buried. The high street shops and buildings show pleasant facades and it retains enough of a rural feel to seem more like a village than a town.
8. Kidlington, Oxfordshire
Like many of our largest villages on this list, Kidlington could be mistaken for a town. Its village centre does have a rather small-town feel. And with a population of over 13,000, it is certainly ‘big’. Despite this, it still has no town council and is considered a village to this day. The village has grown around the historical place of worship, St Mary the Virgin, which dates back to 1220.
The church’s steeple is very distinctive and is commonly called ‘Our Lady’s Needle’ because of its steep pitch. It’s also a Grade 1 listed building with some fine stained glass and the nearby almshouses are very quaint.
9. Lancing, West Sussex
Lancing in West Sussex is the only seaside village in the top 10 biggest villages in England list. It also just about maintains a green buffer area between Worthing and Southwick.
It has the largest population on the list at over 18,000. But with a much smaller area of only 14.14 km2, it’s a significantly smaller parish than Bradfield at the number 1 spot. While the high street has a modern flavour, it can trace its history back to a Romano-British temple and a possibly earlier Iron Age site.
Of course, we mustn’t forget the fact that this village has a lovely long shingle beach which draws tourists and villagers alike in summer months for swimming and picnics.
10. Wombourne, Staffordshire
Very firmly in the centre of the country, very close to Wolverhampton lies Wombourne. And as we know, the village, like countless others, claims to be England’s ‘biggest’. It has yet, however, to be consumed by its large city neighbour and has plenty of green space surrounding it.
Wombourne has Anglo-Saxon origins and is another village listed in the Domesday Book. This large village with a population of over 14,000 has a long and interesting history. Although the village has grown since it listed 13 villagers in 1086, it retains its village feel with a cosy pub, the spired St Benedict’s church and its industrial-age buildings.
And whether it is the 10th or largest village in England, we think it’s certainly worth a visit.
How many Villages are there in the UK?
As we have said, the designation for a village is a little hard to pin down.
According to the Commons Library in the Houses of Parliament, there are 6,116 villages in the UK. But like everything we’ve mentioned, this parliamentary list is controversial. Why? Because it’s based on an element that all of the villages on our list would challenge.
The kind of settlements included in this list are communities with a population of 7,500 or under. As the population is only a factor in what constitutes a village, it seems an arbitrary number.
It’s more likely that the number of communities that claim the title of ‘village’ certainly runs in the several thousand. But like many of England’s quaint and ancient traditions, the facts remain a delightful enigma.
We’d certainly recommend a road trip around England to see if you could challenge our list.  And with English village names like Lower Swell, Nether Wallop and Sheepy Parva it would be fun finding out.

One from our walk around High Bradfield on Sunday. The weather was positively glorious, so we wrapped up and headed out to make the most of it. We quickly found ourselves removing gloves and hats due to the warmth of the sunshine, it was like a beautiful Spring day. We walked for a few hours before heading back home for Sunday dinner - just perfect.
