HIIIII HICCANNA NATION, long time no post!!!

Sooooo long story short, a bitch overcommitted HARD last year, and had like 17 Hiccanna month posts that I completely ran out of steam to finish. And then because I felt so guilty I didn't finish THOSE, I also didn't reblog all the incredibly awesome posts the rest of y'all made, and I'm really sorry for not giving my people the love and appreciation they deserve!!! And then, of course, my life from like October through like March became an absolute shitstorm, and I got semi-threatened with eviction and then friend-dumped by one of the most important people in my life D: It was a whole Ordeal™️, and sadly, my brain was too fried to think about my favorite awkward blorbos 💔

BUT BY GOD, THE TIME HAS COME FOR ME TO GET MY LIFE TOGETHER AND PULL THROUGH FOR ALL YOU WONDERFUL PEOPLE WHO HAVE MADE THIS FUNKY LITTLE EVENT COME TO LIFE!!! I WILL finish reblogging all of last year's Hiccanna Month posts before the end of this month if it kills me!!! And by god, I WILL have this event again, because it's what y'all deserve!!! I don't have the spoons to post much of my own stuff this year (except maybe some leftovers from last year lol), but I'm going to be more on top of my shit about hyping anyone and everyone who decides to participate :3 I'm so grateful for each and every one of you, and I can't tell you how happy it's made me that you all have made this event for my little rarepair OTP bigger and better than I ever imagined 💚🧡💚🧡

I am, however, following suit for some of the other RotBTFD ship months and cutting down from one prompt a day to two per week for 8 prompts total, with an overarching theme for each week. I honestly don't have the spoons to do a prompt every day this year, although for future Hiccanna months, that could change. The two-a-week format seems to work better for a lot of people anyways, since I've gotten feedback that 31 prompts in a row is, er…pretty overwhelming, to say the least ^^; So two prompts a week for this year, and we will see if people like this format better!

Apologies for only giving you guys a couple weeks of prep time—I know it's usually more ^^; But y'all know I'm flexible about late submissions, and it's totally fine if you submit for Hiccanna month after July! And who knows??? If I'm feeling spicy, I might tack on a bonus week for the first week of August 👀👀👀

WEEK 1—MUSIC Special thanks to @lovestrucklyuniverse for suggesting a focus on music from Hiccup and Anna's movies—I'm enamored with that!!! Of course, these prompts are just suggestions, and if you'd rather make something inspired by a pop song, alternative rock jam, or Eurovision ballad that reminds you of Hiccanna, then have at it!

1. For the Dancing and the Dreaming—A re-imagining of our favorite Viking wedding song with Hiccup and Anna! They're certainly the sort of people who would do all manner of impressive feats and grand gestures to win each other over, but the joke is on them—they don't need to! Sometimes, pledging love and devotion is enough, and there's no need to slay monsters or gift troves upon troves of treasure to prove yourself worthy of someone.

2. More Than Just the Spare—One of my absolute favorite things about these two is how they rise above being overlooked and underappreciated and accomplish some truly spectacular things. This prompt is all about Hiccup and Anna showing that they can be more than anyone ever expected them to be—preferably together, while being madly in love!

WEEK 2—MOVIES AND TV Let's be real—we've all dreamed of seeing Hiccup and Anna interact (and adorably butcher flirting several times) on the big screen. Whether it's through an epic Disney-Dreamworks crossover (god, we all wish, right?!) or imagining Best Awkward Blorbos in your favorite TV show, this week is all about Hiccanna slaying in visual media!

1. Romcoms—Have you ever watched a romcom and gone "You know what would make this better? If it was about Hiccanna!"? Furthermore, have you ever watched a romcom and gone "Well shit, this is literally just about Hiccanna!"? Well, now's your time! Make something inspired by your favorite Hiccanna-coded romcom, or a romcom you desperately believe needs more Hiccanna energy in it! Or, hell, make up a brand-new cheesy romcom plot for these two and make us all swoon 💞

2. Dramas—We forget it sometimes, but not everything in these two dorks' lives is sunshine and rainbows. Hiccup lost a whole-ass leg! Anna almost froze to death! They both grew up lonely, friendless, and (relatively) isolated from their communities! For this prompt, take your favorite drama and Hiccanna-ify it—or aplify the Hiccanna you already see! It can be any subgenre you want—coming-of-age drama, period drama, weird avant-garde indie drama, you name it! Subject those guys to some Dramatics™️ and let us see :3

WEEK 3—LITERATURE AND TEXT PROMPTS This week is all about something so many of us long to have an excuse to do--write about the blorbos! Whether you're looking to try your hand at fic for the first time or you're coming back to add more much-needed Hiccanna into our ever-sparse internet ecosystem, these text prompts will hopefully get your fanfiction juices flowing. Pick your favorite(s) of the four for each day, and write away! If you want to try and do all of them then have at it, but don't stress yourself out!!! I wanna make sure this year's event is as chill and no-pressure as possible, since I know a lot of options can be overwhelming, especially for Anna and I's fellow ADHDers! And if you don't want to commit to writing anything, or writing just isn't your strong suit, that's okay too! Use this week to make something based on any literature that brings Hiccanna to mind, or any literary world you'd love to see our favorite awkward ship in. Happy creating! Since Hiccup and Anna are, fundamentally, animated cartoons (as much as they are much more to all of us!), it seemed fitting to wrap up with this one :3 This week is all about comics, and what epic shenanigans and hijinks can come of Hiccanna-ifying them!

1. Sci-Fi/Fantasy AU—One of the things comic books and visual novels do best is exploring fantastical scenarios and limitless possibilities. The iconic superhero AU is probably the most well-known, but your options don't end there! Do you have a favorite comic about guys on spaceships exploring the galaxy and battling aliens? Or a comic about a party of DnD-style adventurers taking down an evil wizard? Throw some Hiccanna in it and let us see! The sky's the limit, and really, you don't even have to stop there! (Note: Using AUs for ANY of these prompts is real and valid and encouraged, so don't feel like this is the only place where you can use wacky AUs! This is just the one where they have a special focus/emphasis. But AU away whenever you like—Hiccup and Anna kinda require an AU to even be able to interact, so it sort of comes with the territory!)

2. Favorite Comic Book Adaptation AU—Many of us have been lucky enough to see a comic we like be adapted into something else, and can say with confidence that the adaptation kicks absolute ass,, whether it be a movie, TV show, novelization, video game, or whatever else! Like with the previous prompt, superhero comics might be the first thing to come to mind. Of course, I'd be delighted to see Hiccanna in the world of the Spiderverse, Invincible, or your favorite DC or Marvel movie, but keep in mind these aren't your only choices! Something like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World or Netflix's The Sandman would be a totally valid option as well! Have fun and go crazy :3

@lovestrucklyuniverse you were so right, tbh, Modern AU Anna's Cher Horowitz-esque oblivious-but-well-meaning Rich Girl Energy is truly off the charts. I love her so dearly!!! She's trying her best! I can absolutely see her giving an impassioned rant about how as soon as she gets her license, she DEFINITELY means to brake for animals!!! After rewatching, I can see it 40000%, bless!

And Hiccup is for sure her Josh--probably the only person (and definitely the only guy) who can roast her in a way that actually motivates her to get her shit together XD The general tired sarcasm, casual nihilism, mopey sadboi emo music, and wanting to go into environmental law to save the planet is also very Hiccup :O

HARU THIS IS A MASTERPIECE, you even gave them the outfits!!! Hiccup in his goofy oversized flannels!!! Anna in her chic pink jeans!!! God, I know Hiccup would awkwardly stumble his way through calling her beautiful, and then do her little "...wait, what?" at the end XD

But hey, there might yet be a way for our kids to weasel out of this situation without giving into their captors’ demands! All it’s going to take is some creative thinking, Anna’s gym training, and a few moments of bravery. No difficult feelings discussions required!

I highkey love the way Hiccup and Anna here are just FULL of the exact kind of emotional constipation and social ineptitude I LIVE for in Hiccanna fic :O King and queen of talking around the point for hours on end, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!!! You best believe they won’t so much as almost hold hands before a minimum of 5 years of intensive pining. And god, if it isn’t delicious to watch. It just makes it all the more satisfying when the dam finally explodes, and there’s enough pent-up love and yearning and passion to level cities.

Oh, look at them, having a lovely vacation!!! I'm so happy for them!!! God I wish that were me, I'd love to be in Greece right now akdjluhskbh

I can totally see this being a screenshot from a feel-good coming-of-age romcom :O Like a group of 20-something high school or college friends save up and go to Europe/Greece to Find Themselves™️ and such. They're still figuring out the transition into full adulthood--being out of school, adapting to various different jobs and careers, sometimes struggling to find time for each other among adult responsibilities, etc. Hiccup and Anna have had eyes for each other since the day they met, but various exes and unrequited crushes of the past have made them not have the confidence to ever really...try something with each other.

And, after all, why ruin a perfectly good friendship over a shallow fling probably not fated to last? There's no way they'd actually make it...was there?

As the trip goes on, staying in close proximity to each other reawakens a certain kind of tension that hasn't been around for years. With every chunk of B&B food they throw at each other and every plastic piece of headwear they dress each other in in cheap gift shops and every laugh Anna gets out of Hiccup for an incredibly lame joke, their friends feel something is shifting. When Anna falls out of their tour boat while trying to do a dramatic reenactment of The Odyssey, it barely catches the other passengers by surprise when Hiccup grabs a life preserver and dives in, fully-clothed, after her.

Then, one day, they're walking the streets of lovely, sunlit Santorini, and Anna decides to stop tiptoeing around the point. Mostly, anyways.

"CATCH MEEEEE!"

When Anna charges at him at full speed, all Hiccup has time to do is comply. Darting away and letting her faceplant on the cobblestones would be a coward's move, not to mention make him look like a real jerk.

Not like he's been daydreaming about this moment or anything.

She giggles as she jumps into his arms, like she's diving headfirst into a pool on a hot summer day. Hiccup holds his breath, trying to process everything as Anna hangs suspended.

He wonders if it makes him a creep to think about how good her, um...very nice figure feels under his hands. He tries not to dwell on this too much. Or the fact that their mouths are inches apart now, and Anna's beaming so wide it's radiant. Or how Anna smells like the rose in her hair--stolen first by Jack from some poor village lady's flower garden, and then by Hiccup to playfully gift to Anna.

Anna's the one to finally finish the job. When she leans in and captures his lips, he feels like one of the heroes from the myths. He feels like he--they--could do anything.

I'm getting the strangest sense of deja vu...

Well, Hiccanna Nation?

This is the second year in a row this has happened, and I am living in a pit of shame ;____; I guess this is what I get for putting my shipping event during one of the worst months of the year, where I'm getting heat rashes like every day akjdlsbfhj

My logic has always been that July fucking sucks, so this'll give me something to look forward to??? And at first, it really does help!!! But then as the month goes on, the heat starts to Get To Me and it's hard to work up the motivation to do anything. This year I suppose I also have the excuse that I'm planning a solo trip in September (my first real one as an adult!), so that's taken some of the few iotas of energy available in my utterly cooked mind.

But anyways!!! As per usual, I'm not stingy about y'all submitting Hiccanna month content late! I don't exactly have the right to be XD Literally just post any late Hiccanna month submissions you like, and I will reblog them and give you love as soon as I have the spoons.

Speaking of!!! I, um...I gotta once again apologize for being incredibly behind on reblogs ^^; I promise that I am seeing and loving all of your awesome submissions, and I will at least get through as many as I can in August!!! Honestly this tracks so much for them??? I can see Hiccup making a little list/spreadsheet analyzing all of his escape routes and exit plans in case confessing his love to Anna goes poorly. Which, of course, it will! So all he really needs to do is memorize the list and remember the most easily accessible exit, depending on how exactly he suffers a humiliating turn-down!

Then, of course, there's the matter of keeping his emotional stability intact and finding a way to handle this whole situation with their friendship unscathed. Difficult, but not impossible! With his 20-step self-made guide and a LOT of hard work and dedication, Hiccup is sure he can overcome the soul-crushing misery of unrequited love!

Come the Big Day, he's halfway through his heavily-rehearsed spiel, hoping that this can at least end in one of the less-painful rejections. He's already planning his escape and figuring out how to meander his way out of whatever horrifically embarrassing and vulnerable thing he'll inevitably manage to say when--

Suddenly, Anna is kissing him.

Wait, what?!?!

It turns out that not once, in those months of meticulous planning and preparing for the absolute worst, did Hiccup consider what would happen in a best case scenario.

Rest assured, he's still in a daze when Anna pulls away and shakes him by the shoulders, shouting "YOU IDIOT!!! DON'T YOU KNOW??? I LOVE YOU TOO!!!"

It takes a few hours--okay, maybe a few weeks--but Hiccup eventually gets used to the idea.

I love this so much 😭 It feels so ethereal and surreal, which is absolutely how this moment would feel to both of them!!! They look like they're in a void of pure light, with sunshine and sparkles glowing off of them--quite literally floating on cloud 9 XD Good for them!!!

AND THE BODY LANGUAGE, I'M GOING INSANE. Anna tackling him to the ground (if there is indeed a ground in this cloud 9 void of bliss)??? Hiccup's hand coming up to hold the back of her head and play with her hair??? They both look like they're having the best moment of their lives, and I love that ;_____; Now all we need is the emotional triumphant crescendo of piano music!

I am so, so honored that you went the extra mile and drew my blorbos kissing, since I know doing smooches is a challenge!!! They look SO GOOD, and you healed something in me (MANY things in me, even!) by adding more Hiccanna kiss art to the fanart ecosystem ;_____; I owe you my life! Anna wondered if this moment could last forever. But then, it wouldn't be a moment anymore if it did. So she poured herself into this impromptu dance she and Hiccup found themselves in. She hasn't memorized the lyrics for this song, so she muttered along a few of the verses, making Hiccup laugh. He teased her then of how rain might pour down on them with the way her voice cracked once. To which she shot back that at least she was trying unlike him. And when they linked arms and spun around once more, it was enough to make Anna all the more giddy and elated from it all. At that moment, she knew then and there that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with Hiccup.

My kids!!! My kids and their utter lack of filters and tact, yet are prone to surprising moments of suaveness!!! I love them so much!!!

Big, big fan of the fact that you can't tell who's saying what here. Like, they're BOTH capable of blurting out whatever they're thinking at the most inconvenient possible time, but they're ALSO both capable of impressively quick and smooth recoveries to salvage the situation!! It really does just go like:

One of them: I WANNA KISS YOU (a random thought they didn't realize they said out loud) The other one, turning on the jokingly-exaggerated charm to cover their nervousness: Oh yeah, huh??? ;3 And what are you gonna do about it??? ;3 FOLLOW THROUGH??? ;3 (followed by tongue-clicking and finger guns so they don't start hyperventilating ajdnlbfhuk)

OBSESSED with Hiccup's soft, surprised half-smile vs. Anna's giant, ecstatic grin :O It's giving "I can't quite believe this is happening" type energy, but in two vastly different ways. Like Anna is walking on air!!! Positively euphoric!!! This is the best moment of her damn LIFE!!!

Hiccup, though??? His brain is still catching up that this is something that's actually happening in his life. He hasn't quite processed that this is actually real, and someone isn't going to shake him awake. But damn it, if being this close with Anna, whether it's in his head or not, isn't making him a soft, mushy mess. Just absolutely incapable of functioning in any way. I love the way Anna is holding him here 😭Like the way she has her hand on his chest and the back of his neck is just so damn tender??? GOOD FOR HER. I've always gotten touch-starved vibes from Hiccup--he kinda strikes me as the kind of guy who didn't grow up with a lot of physical affection and hugs and whatnot. AND he convinced himself that he liked it better that way, so it was okay!!! (Your local autistic girlie can in fact confirm that ND peoples' relationship to touch can be...complicated, at best ^^;) But secretly, the man really DOES just want to be Held and Cherished and Lovingly Caressed and such shit similar 😭 And Anna is, of course, MORE than happy to provide, at whatever rate and in whatever amounts Hiccup is comfortable with. I think he would be picky overall about who gets to touch him, but Anna always can because homegirl takes the time to learn what he likes the best and learns the ins and outs of his personal boundaries. Off-topic rant, but!!!! I just have to ramble about them sometimes because they make me very Unwell ^^;

Spontaneously Infodumping Anna my beloved!!! Truly you never know when the urge to spout out trivia will hit, and when it comes, what choice do you have but to indulge it???

I love that I can't quite make out what the background is, which means that Anna could be dispensing goose facts anytime, anywhere. The zoo??? The park??? The traveling carnival??? Bryce Canyon??? Hoover Dam??? The local rock-climbing gym??? Kyoto, Japan??? IT IS ALWAYS TIME TO HEAR ABOUT GEESE.

Also!!! They're casually holding hands, so this is Established Relationship Hiccanna 😭WHICH MEANS there isn't even any unresolved romantic tension or hopeless pining here, this is just another day in the lives of happily-dating Hiccanna!!! This kind of random infodump apropos to absolutely nothing is just the norm for them. No segues or preludes needed, only an abrupt "hey hang tight while I ramble about this niche thing I read up about online!" and the other is just like "yes, of course, proceed." THE PERFECT RELATIONSHIP TEE BEE ACH.

I love their expressions in this too??? The way Anna's just so full of sincere, wide-eyed wonder over...telling her boyfriend about aggressive waterfowl??? And Hiccup's expression KILLS me, because he's looking at his rambly girlfriend just!!! Enamored with the fact that they now both have signature outfits that you draw them in for modern AUs!!! Truly cartoon charactercore, but in the best possible way XD I can't even blame them--I too might just wear the same outfit every single day of my life if clothes didn't get stinky real fast ^^; Like hey!!! It would save me a lot of trouble!!! Very good choices, too--Hiccup is indeed a Vest and Sweater Guy who always dresses green and brown like a houseplant (affectionate). HIIIII HICCANNA NATION, long time no post!!!

Sooooo long story short, a bitch overcommitted HARD last year, and had like 17 Hiccanna month posts that I completely ran out of steam to finish. And then because I felt so guilty I didn't finish THOSE, I also didn't reblog all the incredibly awesome posts the rest of y'all made, and I'm really sorry for not giving my people the love and appreciation they deserve!!! And then, of course, my life from like October through like March became an absolute shitstorm, and I got semi-threatened with eviction and then friend-dumped by one of the most important people in my life D: It was a whole Ordeal™️, and sadly, my brain was too fried to think about my favorite awkward blorbos 💔

BUT BY GOD, THE TIME HAS COME FOR ME TO GET MY LIFE TOGETHER AND PULL THROUGH FOR ALL YOU WONDERFUL PEOPLE WHO HAVE MADE THIS FUNKY LITTLE EVENT COME TO LIFE!!! I WILL finish reblogging all of last year's Hiccanna Month posts before the end of this month if it kills me!!! And by god, I WILL have this event again, because it's what y'all deserve!!! I honestly don't have the spoons to do a prompt every day this year, although for future Hiccanna months, that could change. The two-a-week format seems to work better for a lot of people anyways, since I've gotten feedback that 31 prompts in a row is, er…pretty overwhelming, to say the least ^^; So two prompts a week for this year, and we will see if people like this format better!

WEEK 1—MUSIC Special thanks to @lovestrucklyuniverse for suggesting a focus on music from Hiccup and Anna's movies—I'm enamored with that!!! Of course, these prompts are just suggestions, and if you'd rather make something inspired by a pop song, alternative rock jam, or Eurovision ballad that reminds you of Hiccanna, then have at it!

1. For the Dancing and the Dreaming—A re-imagining of our favorite Viking wedding song with Hiccup and Anna! They're certainly the sort of people who would do all manner of impressive feats and grand gestures to win each other over, but the joke is on them—they don't need to! Sometimes, pledging love and devotion is enough, and there's no need to slay monsters or gift troves upon troves of treasure to prove yourself worthy of someone.

2. More Than Just the Spare—One of my absolute favorite things about these two is how they rise above being overlooked and underappreciated and accomplish some truly spectacular things. This prompt is all about Hiccup and Anna showing that they can be more than anyone ever expected them to be—preferably together, while being madly in love!

WEEK 2—MOVIES AND TV Let's be real—we've all dreamed of seeing Hiccup and Anna interact (and adorably butcher flirting several times) on the big screen. Whether it's through an epic Disney-Dreamworks crossover (god, we all wish, right?!) or imagining Best Awkward Blorbos in your favorite TV show, this week is all about Hiccanna slaying in visual media!

1. Romcoms—Have you ever watched a romcom and gone "You know what would make this better? If it was about Hiccanna!"? Furthermore, have you ever watched a romcom and gone "Well shit, this is literally just about Hiccanna!"? Well, now's your time! Make something inspired by your favorite Hiccanna-coded romcom, or a romcom you desperately believe needs more Hiccanna energy in it! Or, hell, make up a brand-new cheesy romcom plot for these two and make us all swoon 💞

2. Dramas—We forget it sometimes, but not everything in these two dorks' lives is sunshine and rainbows. Hiccup lost a whole-ass leg! Anna almost froze to death! They both grew up lonely, friendless, and (relatively) isolated from their communities! For this prompt, take your favorite drama and Hiccanna-ify it—or aplify the Hiccanna you already see! It can be any subgenre you want—coming-of-age drama, period drama, weird avant-garde indie drama, you name it! Subject those guys to some Dramatics™️ and let us see :3

WEEK 3—LITERATURE AND TEXT PROMPTS This week is all about something so many of us long to have an excuse to do--write about the blorbos! Whether you're looking to try your hand at fic for the first time or you're coming back to add more much-needed Hiccanna into our ever-sparse internet ecosystem, these text prompts will hopefully get your fanfiction juices flowing. Pick your favorite(s) of the four for each day, and write away! If you want to try and do all of them then have at it, but don't stress yourself out!!! I wanna make sure this year's event is as chill and no-pressure as possible, since I know a lot of options can be overwhelming, especially for Anna and I's fellow ADHDers! And if you don't want to commit to writing anything, or writing just isn't your strong suit, that's okay too! Use this week to make something based on any literature that brings Hiccanna to mind, or any literary world you'd love to see our favorite awkward ship in. Happy creating! 1. Sci-Fi/Fantasy AU—One of the things comic books and visual novels do best is exploring fantastical scenarios and limitless possibilities. The iconic superhero AU is probably the most well-known, but your options don't end there! Do you have a favorite comic about guys on spaceships exploring the galaxy and battling aliens? Or a comic about a party of DnD-style adventurers taking down an evil wizard? Throw some Hiccanna in it and let us see! The sky's the limit, and really, you don't even have to stop there! (Note: Using AUs for ANY of these prompts is real and valid and encouraged, so don't feel like this is the only place where you can use wacky AUs! This is just the one where they have a special focus/emphasis. But AU away whenever you like—Hiccup and Anna kinda require an AU to even be able to interact, so it sort of comes with the territory!)

2. Favorite Comic Book Adaptation AU—Many of us have been lucky enough to see a comic we like be adapted into something else, and can say with confidence that the adaptation kicks absolute ass,, whether it be a movie, TV show, novelization, video game, or whatever else! Like with the previous prompt, superhero comics might be the first thing to come to mind. Of course, I'd be delighted to see Hiccanna in the world of the Spiderverse, Invincible, or your favorite DC or Marvel movie, but keep in mind these aren't your only choices! Something like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World or Netflix's The Sandman would be a totally valid option as well! Have fun and go crazy :3
