Introducing Anne Young Miss Fiji Fashion Week supported by Golden Ocean Fish Ltd

It’s a hot sunny day in Suva as Anne Young strolls into the Fiji Fashion Week office with an air of nonchalance as Epeli Tuibeqa our pageant coordinator flutters around her primping her face and hair for her photo shoot around Suva City.

The 21 year old ex St. Joseph Secondary student has taken on the title of Miss Fiji Fashion Week supported by Golden Ocean Fish Limited where Anne is an Inventory Officer.

Anne first hit FJFW’s radar 4 years ago and she hasn’t looked back since.

“For myself, being a model for FJFW for 4 years, I have seen how much the industry has grown, how designs have improved, how models and designers have been internationally recognized” said Young.

If you spend 5 minutes in Anne’s company you will quickly see that by nature she’s quiet, reserved and soaks up her surroundings by observing all, which is why some found it surprising that she chose to participate on the national platform of the Vodafone Hibiscus Festival.

“I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and get myself involved in something that would take me further in life and which I would learn a lot from.”

“Pageants are not only to celebrate beauty, but also a very effective way in which we can campaign on the different issues faced in our society and raise awareness on” added Young.

  One of those issues for Anne is campaigning on the Fashion Industry in Fiji and how it creates thousands of jobs and how livelihoods can be sustained and created through the right support from authorities.

“Fiji Fashion Week has been actively lobbying for the inclusion of Fashion and Textile design in the secondary school curriculum, because we believe with the right education the fashion industry can become a booming industry” said Young.

When I asked Anne about her biggest achievement in life, she promptly replied with a smile “Modelling at PNG Fashion Week, that was my first international appearance” followed quickly by “And I’ve been promoted twice at Golden Ocean”.

Anne’s Golden Ocean Family has actively been fundraising for her charity chest and Anne is overwhelmed by the support.

"They've been AMAZING, I'm so lucky to have supportive employers and a great work family" added Young. 

Anne is set to participate in the Vodafone Hibiscus Festival with 17 other contestants. Follow her journey on our blog
