Yeah but... but he also willingly murder an entire planet of people? 8,000 people who had a history and a culture, who had lives and loves, art and knowledge and identity. This is genocide.
Odo erased 8,000 people from existence. And yeah, erasing them from existing is murder. He murdered them all. Everyone who lived and had EVER lived on that planet-- including all the people on that ship that he knows.
If i had been Kira, I could not and would never be with someone who erased 8,000 living people and 200 years of existence of their ancestors. I could never forgive that.
Every time I would see the faces of those people who had been on that ship- Dax, Worf, O'Brien, every one of them-- I would be reminded that Odo willingly murdered every one of them-- and every one of their children's children for 200 years.
Every time I looked at Odo, I would see a man who committed genocide just to save one single person from dying. I would have an incredibly difficult time living with that. And an even harder time maintaining ANY relationship with Odo-- friendship or romantic.
I would never be able to look that man in the eye again, or touch him-- let alone let him touch me. Every time I would see him, all I would be able to think about is how this person committed genocide just cos he was sad I died. Like, hey, I'm not immortal-- maybe you'll get a few decades with me but you have to murder 200 years worth of people and why are you okay with that??
The Kira they established in the show-- one who hated senseless death, especially of children and vulnerable people-- would have called Dukat a monster if he had done that.
But hey, whatever, legacy Trek writers gotta pair up all the people with straight relationships so no one talks about all the gay, so Kira, just forget about the fucking genocide and enjoy the sex with the changeling.
'Hey I'm in love with you. And even though you expressly told me not to, I'm going to commit genocide just to prove I love you. Dukat said chicks love being the reason for murdering thousands and thousands of people. Wanna go take our clothes off?'
Talk about cop out? The real cop out is how Kira (or fucking anyone on the ship???) is just totally fine with even being NEAR Odo ever again.
The Kira they had established would have found what Odo did so reprehensible, I don't think she would be able to ever speak to him again. She would have felt complicit in this horror, she would have been so fucking not okay with the young Odo knowing he made this choice in the future.
It would have had a massive, massive effect on her, and I'm mad this was not acknowledged. It would have had a huge impact on her relationship with Odo, as well as his relationship with everyone on that ship older Odo murdered. Because even if he's young Odo, he still made that choice. And knowing he was capable of choosing genocide to save a single person would have and should have impacted everyone-- especially Kira, who got on that ship knowing she was going to die, and making the choice to die so that 200 years worth of people, including 8,000 living people-- would survive. The way Odo took that agency and choice away from her was just... so so gross in so many ways.
And I'm not okay that we were denied the fall out on this.
HAVING ALTERNATE TIMELINE ODO CONFESS TO KIRA WHILE CURRENT ODO IS A GOO IS A GODDAMN COP OUT I TELL YOU A COP OUT AND IM SO EMOTIONAL HE LOOKED SO GOOD AND HED GROWN SO MUCH AND IM CRYING FUCK YOU STAR TREK
