WHY I LOVE MAKING SPREADS AND HOW I DO IT :)
One of my favorite parts of learning how to read tarots is the creativity and flexibility in the spread like you can have 1 card or so so many and then where you put them matters and holds significance and I just think it’s so beautiful. I found that designing spreads is really calming and kinda meditative in some sense. I’d like to thank @hillbillyoracle bc I read through so many of their resources and they’re amazing and I use their compass kinda looking method and anyway here’s a run down of how I make spreads :)
Summarize down the prompt/situation/question What’s the big question or situation? Like what’s really going on and by the end of the reading if there’s one thing you want to really know what would that be?
This shouldn’t be the hardest part of the process at all. I start classes tomorrow for the fall semester so I’m using my beginning of semester spread as an example through out the post. My main question is what is the semester going to look like. If we want to be more specific then I’d rephrase this to “how can I have the best semester possible?”
Break it down and chunk it up We have the big picture - a successful semester summary. What contributes to that? In my sophomore year of high school, I took AP US History and my teacher always looked at argument planning as a stool. Like the seat is the big picture but the legs that hold it up and contribute to its stability are the details or smaller, integral pieces.
In most of my spreads I include like a general outlook. I’m also gonna include one in this spread. This is my first card and is like the vibe of the semester. My own personal beliefs here are that the semester is gonna fall between x and y degrees of success, so I have control but it’s limited by the best I can do and the worst I can do and other external factors. So this is a loose interpretation of the whole fall semester and will read as a vague negative or positive. This card is usually helpful to ease my deck and myself into the reading - like a warm up.
My first thought when I break down my question in this case is what would stop me from having a good semester. Then how would I get over it? Right there are gonna be two cards in my reading - a challenge card and an approach to a solution card. I prefer to define this solution card as an approach to a solution because in most cases, it’s not a quick fix, so I want my reading to reflect that.
Next, I know that personally, the habits, routines, or behaviors I have heavily influence my semester. Last fall I had a horrible semester, like mostly C’s and D’s, but this past spring semester and in the class I took for summer session were all A’s. I know that the difference wasn’t in the classes I took, but more in my habits and the people I surrounded myself with. In short these are all things I had control over. My next three cards are things I should leave behind/that won’t be helpful this semester, things that are working for me and will help, and then anything that I should add in that will benefit me. This is a release, keep, drop drawing in short.
This 6 card reading feels like enough. Sometimes I throw in a general advice card, but I think those last 3 cards are advice enough.
Compass kinda looking method This is the post that really made spreads make sense to me! If you read through it, there’s an basic XY axis you’ll see in any math class and they aspects are assigned to the extremes of each axis. This gives you a framework to hang the cards on, and it makes literally so much sense and is one of those mind blowing things that is just so simple when you really look at it.
I keep track of all my spreads in a google doc because they save automatically and I’m very forgetful. I add a new section for a spread in my doc, name the spread and then open the drawing tool. I use it because it’s easy to move things around and change whatever I think needs to be changed before and after my reading. I’d been sleeping on the drawing tool for so long, so I took a realllllly blurry screenshot of where it is in docs:
I start with a text box on the right side and list the different cards I’m using in each spread. I don’t really touch the layout of the cards too much until I’ve come up with all the cards I want. Then I make a text box that looks like a little card and number them and then lay them where I want. As I’m doing this, I kinda keep the compass in mind for the situation I’m currently reading for and lay out the cards in a way that makes sense according to the compass but in a way that also has like good flow to it.
So this is the spread I ended up with. Again, my list/key of the cards in my spread is on the right and my diagram is on the left. If we were to ascribe a strict axis to this spread, the farther up the y axis you go, the less control I have over my semester. I explained this earlier, but this is my outlook card. I have limited control but it’s not out of my hands. The more negative you go on the y axis, the more control. I put my keep card here because I’m already doing this and it’s good for me and helpful, so I’ve got whatever this aspect is like completely under wrap. The farther left you go on the x axis, the farther in the past we go. This is what to drop for a successful semester. I wanna leave whatever that sucker is behind! The card for the challenge is next because I’m encountering it with the intent to overcome and leave it behind me. In the future leaning cards are the solution approach and the what to add card. The solution approach is gonna push me into the future and is going to maybe leave me with useful skills for later in life. What to add is in a similar vein. This is gonna really have long term positive impacts for my semester ideally.
The end! That was so long, but I think it was worth doing and I’m really proud of it and myself :) Again, so much props to @hillbillyoracle !!! Amazing resources and one of the first people I started following on here :)

Hi hi hi I do have my weekly spread posted on my instagram (hh.tarot) and I thought I’d give the rundown here too since there’s more room to explain what’s all crammed into my post :)
The general outlook card for this week was the Six of Wands. This is a great great thing! He’s telling you that you have what you need to move forward and that any forward progress you make this week will be visible or you’ll be able to feel it. This means that you should also be super happy and proud with whatever you’re able to accomplish! Show it off and talk about it and hype yourself up!
The things that could go right this week was the King of Pentacles reversed. Even though it usually stands for disorganization and poor management when reversed, it really feels like you’re sorting things out and coming out of a stage of disorganization. If you really want to put your mind and effort towards things, you have the potential to be in great shape and produce those results that the Six of Wands is hinting at.
Things that could go wrong this week deal with decisions and accountability. I pulled Justice for this. If you had to make some decisions in the past, there could be consequences catching up with you. Come to terms with what you’ve chosen and remember that this was a choice you made and that at the end of the day, we’re all held accountable for our decisions. If you have to make a decision soon though, make sure you think in the short and long term about what could result from the choice you make. These decisions have to be made and you really can’t get out of them, but you can take responsibility for them and chose things with active consciousness of all the ramifications that these options have. With the Justice card, it may seem harsh and it’s certainly unavoidable, but it’s not always black/white or good thing/bad thing.
The fourth card in my weekly reading is for things that we don’t fully clearly see or that are hidden. This was the Five of Pentacles reversed and it really vibed with the Six of Wands. You’re definitely on the up and up and moving ahead and can literally feel the progress. This is definitely the momentum you want to carry ahead. You still have things that need to shift or fall into place before we can charge forwards and it’s important to look at all the small details now. Small things have their place and if they’re overlooked, they can add up and result in a big block later. Just take a second and move forward with awareness that though you feel so so good, you still might be shaking off the dust or letting things settle if you went through a bit of a rough patch.
The final card in the spread for this week was the 5 of Cups reversed. This, in accordance with the Justice card, points to the need to understand how your past plays into your present and that to move forward, you can’t dwell. You’re being called to see and acknowledge the past for what it really was and understand how your choices got you to where you are. Come to terms with anything that you need to and apologize/forgive whatever you need to then let it go and move forward. Our past sets up our future, but it’s the past and we can’t move to where we want to be if we’re stuck at where we were or stuck on who we were or what we did.
In summary, it looks like this could be a great productive week. If at first it feels like you’re not moving forwards as fast as you feel like you should, see if there’s any decisions you need to make or anything from the past that’s still hanging you up and handle it! The King of Pentacles being reversed could speak to our achievements being small this week, but being big enough to set us up for our future, so really make sure you’re celebrating or at least recognizing even the smallest of your accomplishments :)

Hi lovelies! This is a quick little introduction!
I’m a current college student in the US who’s always had an interest in all things spooky, spiritual and the likes. I absolutely love Buzzfeed Unsolved and the And That’s Why We Drink podcast omg
Recently I bought my first deck of tarot cards (after admiring them from afar for so so long) and wanted to start practicing reading them for people so I can get use out of them and maybe offer insight or guidance to anyone who feels like they might need it. I want my readings to also be more accessible to people who might be in a similar situation to mine (lol broke college student anyone??) I also want to offer either a daily or weekly card drawing/reading so stay tuned for that!
Feel free to connect with me <3 L

howdy everybody I’ve been the absolute worst recently on updating, but here’s one :)
I’m changing my name from hhreadings to tarot28 it is just a name change so it’s kinda minor but I’m also changing the colors because I found something that resonates with me a little more.
I’m not going to use instagram it is too much work for me right now. I’m a full time student and work 20 hours a week on top of that and I need to balance my life between enjoyment and stress abt not having posted for so long. I like the community a lot better on tumblr anyway and that whole algorithm change got me a little hesitant to continue using instagram.
I’m going to start getting back into reading again and more regularly because I genuinely love it and love to meet and help people :) I’m also going to try and post somewhat consistently but in the next few days I’m just going to ease into things.
That’s all the updates, and really not much is changing. My asks are always open and my dms and soon I’ll have a new email and a new form link for readings so stay tuned
Lots of love and excitement <3 L

FUN STATISTIC TAROT THINGS :)
I’m a little bit of a nerd and I get excited about interesting things like the role of statistics in tarot readings and so here’s a little bit of stat for you!
In my last weekly forecast spread, I used a 5 card spread. The first 4 cards were pentacles and I think it’s visually significant when this happens, but I wanted to take a basic statistic approach to what the odds really are of going 4 for 4.
Basic Breakdown of a Standard Tarot Deck A standard deck has 78 cards 22 Major Arcana (22/78 or 28.21%) 56 Minor Arcana (56/78 or 71.79%) 14 cards per suit (14/78 or 17.95%)
Dependent vs Independent Events The easiest and most cut and dry way to explain this in context is the difference between using a spread and drawing a bunch of single cards to answer yes or no questions.
If you shuffle your tarot deck and want to pull a single card to answer a simple yes or no question, the chances of drawing any given card are the same: 1/78 or 1.28%. You come up with another yes/no question and put the first card back in the deck, shuffle, and prepare to draw your second card. The odds of drawing any given card don’t change and all 78 cards are still there so there’s a 1.28% chance of drawing any card. If you draw one card at a time then put it back before drawing a second card, the first card will never change what the second card is, making each drawing an independent event.
In the event of my weekly forecast spread, I shuffle and then draw 5 cards one after the other without putting them back in the deck. Each time a card is drawn, the odds change because the total number of cards in the deck changes from 78 to 77, and all the percentages adjust accordingly. This means that each drawing is dependent on the one that come before it.
The Math is Different for Each Situation Too!!! For independent events you multiple the percentage of the event outcome you want by itself for the number of drawings since the percentage doesn’t change.
For dependent events, the procedure is essentially the same, but the percentage changes each time
So What are the Odds of Drawing 4 Pentacles in a Row??? Before we even get our feet wet with any math, the odds are gonna be higher for drawing 4 pentacles in a row if the events are independent of each other. The odds are remaining the same for each drawing rather than decreasing (as they do when each drawing is dependent on the one before it).
Pentacles are a single suit, so as stated in the breakdown, any single suit has 14 cards in a standard tarot deck and makes up 17.95% of the deck.
In an independent context, we use 17.95% each time a card is drawn since there will always be 14 pentacles in the deck. We’re drawing 4 cards, so we multiply 0.1795 by itself 4 times:
0.1795 x 0.1795 x 0.1795 x 0.1795 = 0.1795^4 = 0.001038
0.1038% is just over a tenth of a percent which is already a small chance.
In a dependent context, or in the context of my weekly spread, we start with 14 pentacles and each time we draw a card, we lose a card in the deck as a whole and a pentacle card. It’s easier to show as an actual fraction. So each time we draw, we’re subtracting 1 from the numerator and denominator and multiplying them together.
(14/78) x (13/77) x (12/76) x (11/75) = 0.1795 x 0.1688 x 0.1579 x 0.1467 = 0.0007019
This is 0.07019% and is tiny tiny tiny.
Wrap Up :) So not only is having 80% of my weekly spread visually significant and kinda baffling to look at but there’s a 0.07018% chance of it happening in terms of basic statistics alone.
I think when a certain number or suit shows up in a reading over and over like this, it adds to validity of tarot readings in general because like what are the odds :)
