Dara is not sure he will ever get used to how freely the Crown speaks his mind, or how shamelessly.

"You're so warm and soft underneath all that armor," he exclaims happily, clinging to the Dara's back like a knapsack, his voice somewhat muffled where he is rubbing his face between the general's shoulder blades.

"Soft is not the word I would use," Dara grumbles, his cheeks coloring. He has been called anything but, in physicality as much as manner. Hard and implacable and unyielding as a stone wall. For a long while, he feared Shamshi would not wish to hold him like this, that his hard-won muscle would be somehow uncomfortable for the Crown for all his delicate softness.

But his Crown holds him like a precious thing, though his arms can't meet around the general's chest. He curls around Dara's back as well as he can, clinging tightly and fiercely as if he is the one meant to defend against any who would harm him.

Dara does not realize how his words could be misconstrued until Shamshi buries his mouth against his back to stifle a snicker. He is suddenly very glad the Crown is behind him and cannot see his face.

"That is not what I-- I only meant-- I am not--" He groans as Shamshi only laughs harder at his inarticulate fumbling. He can at least find comfort in the warmth he feels pressing into his back through his tunic that says Shamshi is blushing quite a lot himself.

"I know what you meant," his Crown says, though he is still giggling quietly. "I can't help but tease you a bit, my General."

"You have been spending too much time with Xelef," Dara grouses, reaching out for one of the many, many, many pillows scattered across the obnoxiously opulent (but absurdly comfortable) bed so that he has somewhere to hide his face as well. It does not help that the way Shamshi says my General will never cease to give him chills.

"You could spend time with Xelef too, if you wanted," Shamshi teases pointedly, and Dara is grateful he is already lying down, or else he might topple over with how quickly the blood is rushing to his face.

"It is time to sleep," he fumbles instead, and though he tries to sound decisive about it, gruff and firm, his voice gives a damning crack.

"Of course," Shamshi murmurs obligingly, and though it is undoubtedly an impish one, Dara can't help but be gentled by the curve of the Crown's smile against his shoulder.
