I’d heard that all three endings made it clear that aloy was in fact a gay disaster over seyka regardless of your choice, but I hadn’t seen them yet. so naturally when I finished burning shores on ultra hard tonight (go me!), I recorded all three of them.

“I’m not ready for this” (brain) starts at 1:55, “this is too much for me” (fist) starts at 4:12, and “yes, I do” (heart) starts at 6:15

my gay thoughts:

I was not prepared for the “I’m not ready for this” option to be even gayer than the heart/kiss option, but she managed it!!! even the “this is too much for me” scene was, in fact, very gay. I was Not misled.

very juicy character stuff too

not gay but: “for two years my life has been...” ty aloy for clarifying the timeline for me

just prior to the hug in the "I’m not ready for this” scene, when seyka says “I’ll miss you, aloy,” they’re standing pretty close and seyka seems to be thinking about getting that bittersweet smooch anyway:

but after the “I’ll miss you, aloy” prior to the hug in the “this is too much for me” scene, they’re further apart and seyka is *not* contemplating going for it:

and of course the hug at the end of the heart option is much closer (and not seen from aloy’s side)

So I just finished Burning Shores, and it was alright!

Fighting a HORUS? AMAZING!!!

Helping to bring home all the Quen? Felt good!

But uh, Seyka? And that whole thing? Hm...

I don't like that they pushed Seyka to be Aloy's romantic interest, where so far they've not given an option. I get that she's similar to Aloy in most aspects, but I really don't like how it was obvious from the start that they were going to try and culminate into a romance, for the first time, with someone Aloy knows for like 3 days :/

Aloy has only just begun to open up with people, accepting friendships/just general interactions with people that were denied for most of her life right now. Now, as much as I ship Aloy with people (Talanah/Erend/Avad/etc), she's not in a position to jump to another tier of personal relationship this early on in her personal journey past being a Sobeck clone. I 1000000% don't mind the LGBTQ aspect of this at all, and I kind of thought they said Aloy was gay already???, so please don't think this is me against that at all. No, I don't like the fact there's been no indication of being able to romance, and they push it on this woman Aloy doesn't know in a DLC, rather than exploring that in FW :/

Overall I thought it was alright, just kind of short. The setting is really well done, the story was pretty good, and seeing some older faces like Gildun made Burning Shores feel a lot more connected <3

Also, it was really touching/heartbreaking to see Sylens, and the tribute was really nice at the end <3

Just finished the Horizon Burning Shores DLC and not sure how I feel about the Seyka/Aloy pairing. On the one hand, awesome! Glad that it’s confirmed Aloy is canonically queer! But on the other hand, since this was a DLC, it felt kind of rushed and I didn’t have much time to really grow to like Seyka as much as I did the other characters in the main games. I think if they had much more time to flesh out her character and her dynamic with Aloy I would have been happier. I’m all for a slow burn and this ain’t it.

Hopefully they’ll get more playtime together in the next game and the story allows them to rekindle the relationship at a slower pace. The ship has potential, and I think that would be more interesting for me. But as it stands now I’m just kinda ehh about it

finally finished the hfw dlc! i'm love robot birb.

the final boss fight was very cool. it did take me entirely too long to recognize sam witwer lmao.

i do wish tho they'd spent more time on the world. it's LA! you'd think there'd be more cool set pieces to explore but everything's basically just a shell. seems like they focused a lot more on the new machines and boss fights. and they did a lot more with the birb mechanic which was fun.

and i love that they gave aloy a new lil gf but it's shame they waited until a dlc to actually give her a romance. it doesn't feel like we had enough time with seyka as a character or her relationship with aloy. plus it puts it in a weird limbo area when it comes to how much mention it will get in the next game. and what if they want to add more romanceable npcs? would it be worth it to stay loyal to seyka? i mean ideally she'll just be in the next game but who knows. at least maybe we can rule out erend as a love interest now lol.

I have many thoughts after finishing the Horizon Burning Shores DLC, and while this is not the chief among them, it’s there nonetheless

putting this thought here for lack of anywhere else to put it, and I'm sure I'm at least a week late, but:

if, by the time I get around to poking around ao3, there aren't at least five fics (aloy/seyka or otherwise) which somehow make use of the oft-repeated line from londra's shitty play, what even are we dOING

"how could I not come back? being with you feels like belonging. it feels like home." like I know it was super gross in the context of londra but come ON
