hey hey yall! i’m kat (22, she/her, est) and i’m coming atcha with lilah, my overambitious lil icarus. you know the drill, give this a like and i’ll hit you up for plotting!
Tumblr media
I saw DELILAH REID at a coffee shop in BROOKLYN today. I forgot how much SHE looks like VANESSA KIRBY. They are a THIRTY-TWO year old JOURNALIST who’s been in NYC for TEN YEARS now. Every time we run into each other, they are always ENTERPRISING & OBSERVANT but I’ve heard people say they can also be INSINCERE & NONCOMMITTAL. CHEWING COTTON WOOL BY THE JAPANESE HOUSE reminds me of them every time it comes on the radio.
lilah’s a texan gal! born and raised in a suburb of houston. being an astros stan is her most toxic trait
her parents split up when she was five and her mom moved to california. lilah hears from her every birthday and christmas, like clockwork, but their calls are always polite and cursory, and they haven’t seen each other in person since lilah’s high school graduation.
her dad’s a really lowkey, unassuming guy, so it’s hard to tell where lilah got her fire from. she was a really loud kid, a rachel berry type, always sitting at the front of the class and raising her hand.
she gained a lot of local notoriety in high school when, as a part of the school paper, she figured out that one of the school board members was embezzling money and confronted them about it at a public meeting.
she went to yale for undergrad, majoring in english, and immediately started her master’s in columbia’s school of journalism the fall after she graduated with her ba.
to her dismay, things didn’t go entirely to plan after she got her master’s. she’s always been very sure of herself -- it’s one of her defining traits -- but searching for a job started to wear on her after a while. it wasn’t that she was just getting turned away at one or two places; it seemed like nowhere would take her.
finally, she got a job as a city council beat reporter at the new york post, and she’s been with the publication, jumping around to different beats, ever since. lilah hates the post; their politics are the exact opposite of hers and she can’t stand most of her coworkers, but she stays because it offers a steady paycheck and because it gets her name in print. that doesn’t stop her from going out for other job interviews all the time though.
late last year, she found something sort of strange while relentlessly chasing the mayor on something that seemed relatively minor -- construction permits for a new public school that had been sitting in limbo. the project kept being shelved because of a lack of funding, but the school had been one of the mayor’s campaign promises to the very neighborhood he grew up in. records have shown that there was, at one point, enough money involved, but where did it go? it could be nothing, but it also could be everything, so lilah is pursuing it, hoping it’ll launch her to somewhere better than the post if it comes together like she wants it to.
she’s less like rachel berry now -- she’s more self-aware and less obnoxious -- but she pretty much never takes her foot off the gas. she’s relentless, shrewd, intuitive, single-minded. but she’s also really good at talking to people and secretly craves closeness even though she doesn’t have much of it in her life because she’s always working. love her please!!
gay as hell
and that’s all folks!
