Kalim can't do this.

He REALLY doesn't think he can.

All that work just to get this far and for what?

For the director to be constantly on his ass?

'Kalim, WHAT is your posture? You're a dancer, for Christ's sake! At least stand like one!’

'Brighten up your expression! This isn't a funeral!'

'Kalim, our mics can only pick up so much when you're not PROJECTING.’

'Where's the EMOTION in the line?'

'Kalim, are we even reading the same script?!'

After taking one last sip of his whiskey, Kalim sets his glass down on the counter and takes out his copy of the script.

Flipping through the cast list, he stops at the name highlighted in bright yellow:

hello hello! idk if you remember me, but im soru! you requested a really lovely jamil fic from me once on one of my old accounts <3 i'd been meaning to ask if you wanted to write for the scarabia zine im heading over at @hesperious-sands!!!

Hiya! I do indeed remember you, just lost track of your account at some point I think.

Hasdfs this sure is a surprise tho.

I had a look at the google doc info document to try to get a bit of an idea of the zine and what's being planned. Am I right in understanding that he zine is intended to focus more on exploring the guys and on platonic relationships? Since I tend to write romantic reader inserts, so I'm not sure how well my work would fit in with that intention.

Plus honestly I barely have any idea of how zines even work 🙈

How soon would you like to get a definitive answer? I'd definitely need to think a bit if I have fitting ideas, especially since I hadn't really properly looked into the project until now. (No need to reserve a spot for me or anything like that if things are in motion already.)

Smollett’s Travels through France and Italy, Auden’s excellent anthology of Walter de la Mare’s poetry, Saintsbury’s Miscellaneous Essays, a volume I had never seen which I picked up at Blackwell’s in Oxford. Saintsbury at his best, in his middle period... Lionel Trilling cannot understand why I admire Saintsbury.

LICHEN: ‘Eternity’s soil maker’, you could call him. Long before your ancestors and mine appeared on earth, he was laboring endlessly on flinty rock and sterile sand, in steaming tropics and icy tundra. Paeonia Seeds are double dormant – they need to be cold-stratified (indoors or out) for several weeks; during the long period of warm stratification (‘summer’) roots may develop, but the seeds still need another bout of chilliness... plants will ultimately reach the flowering stage in perhaps 5 years... black seeds are fertile; all others are not...

‘Oriental poppies reproduce naturally from broken roots left in the soil, so root cutting usually succeed. They should be 3 inches long, inserted vertically into free-draining soil mix. Keep in a sheltered place over winter. When the new shoots have good roots in spring, line out in a nursery bed or pot singly’... seeds need light to germinate; a steady 50 degrees would be appreciated...

hyacinth Don’t bother starting seeds indoors – sow seeds in late summer to early autumn, 1/2 inch deep; germination is iffy... offsets can be planted, but, again, success is iffy...
