There's 100% rumors about Brutus among NCR troops- even before he becomes The Courier.

Due to the nature of rumors getting dramatacized he's probably described as a barely human beast of a man- more like a werewolf than a person. Snarling, hungry, storming NCR camps with a pack of dogs and leaving carnage in his wake. Caesar's hound set off leash to send a message.

Of course he DOES fight like a rabid animal and always fights with Amica at his side, but it takes a while for the NCR to piece together this hulking mythological figure and his pack of wolves this actually just this one 6'3 mfer and his 1 dog and the stories where mostly hyperbole.
