Cana's day was fairly normal. Moon sickness in the morning, a hell of a lot of coffee, finding a tear in his suit jacket and proceeding to walk to work and get breakfast with the students. He had a first hour class, but it was Tuesday, meaning that he had first hour, third hour and last hour. The day was pretty laid back, and because of the phase of the moon, as long as he wore a collared shirt, his boss let him wear jeans. Much preferable. He was sitting at his desk with his feet propped up, showing how torn up his shoes were getting. A book laid in his lap as he "planned for classes" meaning that his computer had a spreadsheet open and he wiggled the mouse every now and then before turning his page on his book. He wasn't too shocked when the door opened. Students often came in for help on homework, as some could hardly read on their own or needed a little more assistance. When he saw a woman however, he blinked a couple of times. "Uh..." he said awkwardly. "C-can I help you?"

What was that he smelled? 

Ohh, he knows that smell, he knows that smell very well. It took all of three seconds to plaster himself to the window of the bakery and peer inside to the ovens within.

Yes, they were making cake.

And he wants cake, and would be very happy to leave enough gold for a slice of cake to treat himself. There was only one problem he was presented with.

Too bad glaring at the closed sign wasn't fixing that problem any faster.

Jayce sat silently in the library, staring into the middle distance, his chair positioned to face the doorway. He often sat this way after hours when nobody was around, he liked the silence, it allowed him to think about his decisions and what he'd do differently given the chance.

He was jolted out of his trance when the door creaked open and a teenage girl walked in, she was around his age, maybe a year one way or the other. He could tell just by looking at her she was a runaway, but why would she choose to stay in a rundown New Orleans mansion? Only then did he remember it was far better than the streets or the one bedroom in Reno.

"Hey there, stranger," he chuckled to himself, "What brings you to our humble abode? You're not thinking of doing anything stupid, are you? Because I would advise you not to. It can never get better if you don't give it the chance. Trust me, I made that mistake."
