Whole reason i made a new blog Can i get a word about eurylochus. Im sure other people have said it but if so then ill gladly add on the noise. I dont think hes as hypocritical and bad as some people have made him out to be? And i want to go over his crimes one by one, to bring them to a less exaggerated ground.
"He was going to abandon those men in Circe's island, therefore he had no right rebelling against Odysseus after Scylla."
I need us all to review both situations for a second. With Circe, Eurylochus witnessed what she's capable of, he KNEW Odysseus wouldn't be able to take her. Between losing his captain (and KING) and "cut their losses", it was probably logical for him to leave those men behind in place of losing any more lives or Odysseus himself. Had he known Hermes would show up to help, I'm sure he wouldn't have been so adamant on leaving. He's the voice of the crew, after all.
But Scylla? Odysseus withheld the information of what they were going to encounter in that lair. Odysseus deliberately made him light up torches (one of which would've been for HIM) that would sentence the 6 men that'd carry them. Of course, upon realizing this was his plan, he'd be mad. And we have to realize the rest of the crew are just as sentient as Eurylochus: Seeing their king give up 6 lives like they're nothing for the sake of getting home to his wife... how do they know they won't be next? The 3 men at Circe could've left like Eurylochus did, it was a slip, but Scylla was a choice. (A choice I think was the best outcome! Im not coming for Odysseus here, and I acknowledge and agree it was probably the safest way to get through Scylla. But it doesn't negate the feelings of the crew).
"He opened the wind bag and it got over 500 men killed! With that body count, he was still hypocrital to critisize Odysseus for sacrificing 6 men to Scylla"
I mean, yeah, if we leave it at that. Why don't we ask Poseidon what would've happened to Ithaca if they arrived at the shore instead of being sent to him directly?
Yes, opening the bag is breaking Odysseus' trust. He did wrong at this. But if we are gonna get nitpicky, Odysseus shouldn't have revealed his name to the Cyclops at all— Or just kill him, like Poseidon and Athena told him he should've done. I think they're both at fault for this, and even then, killing his fleet over the entirety of Ithaca is probably the best outcome somehow.
But like, overall, I just don't think we can use the 500 men excuse to throw bricks at this man. No one, not even Odysseus, realized they pissed off Poseidon by hurting Polyphemus and that's where the storm was coming. It's just cruel and it is very obvious it weighted not only on Odysseus but on Eurylochus as well.
"He killed Helios' cow despite Odysseus warning! And then got mad at Odysseus when he didn't sacrifice himself for the crew?"
I feel like he is a little unfair for getting mad at the end, but it is also just very human. We can think of it logically because it is a story we are witnessing, but most if not all of us would've lashed out and felt betrayed if our lives ended because our closest friend (and person that was supposed to look out for us) needed to see their lover.
And the cow... I need you guys to put yourself in his shoes again. Eurylochus didn't believe they'd make it home, he had given up on life, he couldn't trust his brother in arms to bring him home alive anymore. And hunger is so heavy (sorry). Between dying of starvation or drowned by Poseidon, and dying swiftly by divine intervention for pissing off Helios, he probably didn't care (and, like, if he didn't do it someone else in the crew would've. Is the thing.)
I actually think it's such a well done thing, the way he kills the cow because he gave up but deep down doesn't actually want to die— Which is why he gets desperate and seeks for Odysseus' guidance once again when he realizes what he's done. The cow is probably the hardest thing to defend from him, but i think it is so human. And so tragic.
And I need to clarify again— This isn't against Odysseus! I think he makes so many mistakes and is so selfish but also human in a way, I can see where every character is coming from in this musical. And the Odyssey is about a man losing his humanity in a journey back home, so his actions have to be. Bad. But there's a treatment of this characters that ends up coming off as a disservice to each of them. Using Eurylochus as a scapegoat to make Odysseus look better just feels like missing the point of both and their complexities to me. Cause even after defending Eurylochus here, none of these actions are entirely justifiable! He IS hypocritical and selfish as well, and maybe a bit cruel at times. But he's not the root of all evil. If he were, Odysseus wouldn't be the lead.
This post is pretty over the place, so I apologize!it isn't meant to be read as an essay or anything too serious despite the tone that might come off of it. I'm just mostly voicing my thoughts about these characters re: some takes I've seen here and there in other platforms that I can't go too much in detail about. Would love to hear other thoughts, agreeing or disagreeing, although i might not respond too in detail. Also please befriend me i need friends into epic LOL

PERCY JACKSON TV SHOW REVIEW
(SPOILER ALERT! I Did Not Like It)
It has been 16 long years since I first picked up The Lightning Thief, and once again...I am faced with an adaption of one of my favorite books that is so painfully disappointing. And now that the tv show is completely out, it's time to purge the collection of thoughts I compiled on it:
Starting on one of the (few) positives, the cast was incredible. I know for a FACT that they are all wonderfully talented individuals, and I aim all of my gripes with their acting at the directors and writers.
So much telling. So little showing. Stop explaining the plot and the mythology to me. SHOW it to me. Explain later only when necessary.
And yet, some things weren't explained at all! I know, as someone who read the books, what blue food means to Sally and Percy. But the show never explains its significance. To the unknowing watcher, it's just a weird quirk, not a small rebellion between a woman and her kid against the life they're stuck in. It baffles me what the writers chose to over explain versus under explain. There's no clear reason for either behavior, and it permeates the writing in a bad way.
There's also a lot of the kids just being dragged from point A to point B by an outside force, rather than their own actions. They never really felt alone or even in danger on their quest, because gods kept showing up to help them along. I did not like that.
These kids aren't allowed to be kids. I stg you could make them teens or young adults and the dialogue/their actions would be the same. That's not good.
Why do they always have all of the information!!!?? They immediately know it's Medusa. Echidna introduces herself and they immediately know who she is and that it's a Chimera in her bag. They immediately know what the Lotus casino is. Why? It makes the stakes feel so low, rather than the mad dash scramble in the books that happens a lot when characters have to remember the myths and how to beat a monster mid-fight. And it makes all these scenarios so boring!!!
Also so many of the fight/chase scenes were boring or anticlimactic. The only good ones I can think of were in the first two episodes, and then one with Ares. Someone actually slipped in some good choreo in those few fights, but completely forgot to add it in to....the rest of the show....
There's very little about the show that feels magical. CG is used, obviously, but at times it feels like they should've gone further with it, or used it even more, and they just....didn't. The visuals end up feeling clunky and not very cohesive, with zero whimsy. Hate to make this comparison, but the Harry Potter movies were VERY good at showing the lines between the magical world and the muggle world, and the tension that occurs when the two interact. There is....none of that in the PJO series. Zip. Zero. And the mythological CG that is there is more often than not static or boring.
Break for a positive! I actually really liked that Percy was learning mythology from Mythomagic. The show wasn't really consistent on that point - saying it was his mom instead most of the time - but that was such a fun and clever way to work in the card game and make it plot-relevant. As someone with ADHD, I can confirm I would also learn mythology WAY better if it was for my favorite game.
Ok back to the negatives - Wtf is up with the portrayal of the gods? For one, they're boring to look at. Nothing about their designs makes them feel 'godly' and while that's ok with some gods (Hermes for one, tho I have issues with his weird beige sweat suit look) why is Ares just some regular ass biker dude? Where are the flaming eyes?? And radical skin-leather bike?? He couldn't even have a CUSTOM bike with red bloody paint and boar heads and chain link handles or something???
And the gods are way too fucking nice. Sorry. I don't have an issue with Hermes being nice but. Ares having a heart-to-heart with Grover? When his presence is supposed to stir everyone up into a rage? And Hephaestus sees Annabeth refuse to give up on her friend and just goes 'awww, ok, you and Percy can go, and take my rival's shield back to him too cause I'm just so nice.' Sorry, no. I'm fine with gods being helpful - Hephaestus helps (reluctantly) in the later books. But it was at a price! A favor for a favor! Not a 'get out of jail free' card just because he was moved by normal ass human compassion!!
Hades gets his own bullet point because who the fuck was that. As a child of Hades, I'm offended that this sweet fruity guy just wanders up and goes 'hey, how's it going, wanna snack?' like, that is NOT my dad. My dad had skeleton soldiers filling his halls and a garden of jewels and a voice so loud it rattled the whole Underworld. Whoever that was in the show was a pathetic imitation.
The point of the first series is to work up to Percy throwing it in the gods' faces how awful and neglectful they've been of demigods and specifically their own children. Demanding that they do better. But if they're already showing compassion and 'humanity' in the context of the first book/first season of the tv show....Percy starts running out of ammo against the gods. There's no coherent story progression where Percy spends years seeing the worst of the gods and the best of them at very distinct, important times of his life and his story. It no longer feels like a massive change they have to make in the system, something that deserves a godly favor for Percy to demand of them. Luke no longer feels like his fury at the gods is wholly justified. The whole series begins to crumble because the gods already have a good reason for being how they are, rather than being thoroughly selfish assholes who only dote on demigods when they do something really cool. And the exceptions are presented at intelligent moments that prove to Percy when he most needs it that the gods can be better, they just need a forceful push to get there.
That being said, where was Percy getting the info that the other gods were feeling scared and abused by Zeus? I love the balls on this kid, but like...when did he make these assumptions and why? That whole scene felt really unearned.
Also Olympus was BORING. And EMPTY. And DARK. It looked like we were just back in the Underworld. Which. The Underworld was fucking boring too. Some neat visuals, sure, but put that in some high fantasy show. Not this one.
One last positive before my final point - there were some pretty good jokes scattered around. Not nearly enough, but I did really enjoy the Dionysus introduction and a handful of lines from Percy. Also releasing the animals in Vegas - Grover being like 'oh, you were worried about the humans' got me good.
The final word that kept spinning through my head after finishing episode 8 was: Pathetic. Luke's betrayal was pathetic. No deadly scorpion. No commitment to that period of time in the books we were convinced he really was evil. And Gabe just stumbling on the package with Medusa's head in it? PATHETIC. Percy outright asked his mom if she was being abused in the book, and she took fate into her own hands to statue-ify that bastard. But no. The show was through-and-through just a pathetic, watered-down version of an incredibly fun, emotional, brutal, exciting series of books. I know there was a lot of heart behind this production, but I did not feel it at all. But what else should I have expected from modern Disney?

Time for my weekly Futurama review! Definitely a mixed bag with this one but all-in-all I didn't hate it. Spoilers ahead!! (Also, I talk a bit about next week's episode, Zapp Gets Cancelled, at the end, because I felt like writing about that over this episode) I'm really curious to see if I'm the only one who didn't like this episode, so feel free to let me know how you felt about this episode.
So, this episode is probably my least favourite so far. It did have things that I appreciated and that made me chuckle, but as a whole I just didn't find it overly entertaining or engaging, as someone who never really found all that Covid/pandemic/lockdown/etc. very funny. If this episode had come out a couple of years ago, it might have felt less tired. I know that Covid is very much still a thing, but this episode really feels late. Probably the best thing I can say about this episode was that it didn't say anything disagreeable? Though, I'll be honest, it barely held my attention.
My main problem with this episode was that it felt really unfocused and like it didn't really know what it wanted to do beyond 'Covid episode'. The only storyline that went anywhere was Hermes', and I was really happy that Hermes got a lot of focus this episode because he's really under-utilised as a character. But, and maybe this is just me being kinda stupid, but I don't feel like it really fit with the rest of the episode? Maybe it was some kind of commentary I just didn't understand, but I just don't get why voodoo was the right cure for the virus. 'Zombie virus' just didn't feel like it fit with the explovid virus. So, the whole episode just felt kind of confusing on what it was going for (other than 'Covid episode) because the only continuous storyline that went anywhere was Hermes', which was sort of fun but at the same time it feels so out-of-place with the rest of the episode that the concept just fell flat for me. If I'm missing something, please explain it to me in the comments.
EDIT: I also really wasn’t a fan of the whole LaBarbara still cheating on Hermes thing.
EDIT: I did like parts of the Fry and Leela subplot too.
I just think having an episode centred just on a virus was kind of a tired and dull idea. I thought it was a clever idea to have the Omicronians creating division by spreading misinformation and using this to invade, but that storyline went nowhere either, and was obviously just there so they could make an Omicron joke. It could have been a cool idea for the main plot of the episode, but I knew it couldn't go anywhere because they didn't introduce it until they were fifteen minutes in.
This is probably the trickiest review I've written so far because this episode felt like a whole lot of nothing to me. There were so many plot points that just didn't connect, and I've forgotten a lot of things that happened in this episode as a result. It felt more like moments of social commentary and like they had nothing interesting to say about Covid or the pandemic era (I feel weird calling it that, but I can't think of what else to call it). I had similar frustrations with the Impossible Stream for having nothing new or interesting to say about streaming services. But, at the very least, the Impossible Stream had a relatively cohesive story, really funny jokes and an attempt at a sci-fi premise with the streaming suit thing.
I think the best thing they could have done with Rage Against the Vaccine was if they went all-in with either the Omicronian invasion story, or if they made it feel more natural to draw the 'zombie virus' conclusion. Or, they could have done a mutant-related story. Or, just something more focused that didn't make the episode feel like a series of scenes that made two years too late social commentary. Point is, I think they still could have done a 'Covid episode' with a far more interesting premise and an engaging plot, rather than 10 minutes of Hermes in New New Orleans and 12 minutes of barely connected scenes.
The closest episode this can be compared to is Cold Warriors, which I really like. The premise felt really interesting and since it came out a decade before the pandemic it wasn't trying to be topical. It was trying to be an interesting sci-fi premise, whilst also having a nice subplot. This episode fails spectacularly at delivering an interesting story, because it barely has a story.
I also think it can be compared to Related to Items You've Viewed, which was 'topical' in that it looked at Amazon, its mistreatment of its workers, and how inescapable Amazon feels in this day and age. It's not a perfect episode, but it did have a lot going for it outside of the pretty solid Amazon commentary that was delivered with far more subtlety than this episode, that being a genuinely interesting exploration of Fry, Leela and Bender's new dynamic. The episode would have been far worse if it had just been 22 minutes of Amazon jokes.
There were some things I liked in Rage Against the Vaccine. I did actually find the sight gag of everyone wearing their masks wrong kind of funny and clever. Again, I really liked Hermes' storyline because it felt far more interesting than anything else in the episode (plus, it's Hermes, c'mon). I thought it was fun to see the Merpeople of Atlanta again. And I liked the Angry Dome.
I really didn't have high hopes for this episode, but I was still pretty disappointed with it, especially since last week's episode was my favourite of the season so far.
I'm hoping Zapp Gets Cancelled will be better than Rage Against the Vaccine, and I'm hoping that this will be a 'topical' episode like Related to Items You've Viewed, where it's not just untimely, repetitive social commentary that has all the subtlety of a baseball bat to the skull. It seems like the episode will give Leela some focus, with her replacing Zapp as captain of the Nimbus. I'm praying that the plot isn't 'Leela gets borderline sexually harassed by Zapp again, so Zapp gets cancelled and Leela gets to take over his job because she was the one who got harassed by him', because I don't like the connotations of that storyline (that being women who speak out against mistreatment are invariably rewarded). Zapp's usually a really funny character even in minor roles, so I'm hoping that this episode will be strong humour-wise.

TIL that the hellsite has easter eggs for developers
So! It is 4:20am as I am writing this post (I am not kidding) and I had been experimenting with a script for the hellsite because it had been buggy for a while.
(As you do, as a fullstack software developer with nothing else to do on a saturday at 4:20am.)
And that’s when I found out that tumblr apparently has EASTER EGGS for developers in the console!

Buy High-Quality, Stylish, and Ethically Sound Replica Hermes Bags
Tumblr media
The iconic French luxury brand Hermes is synonymous with timeless elegance, impeccable craftsmanship, and unparalleled luxury. In addition to its coveted handbags, Hermes has made some of the world's most sought-after accessories, including the legendary Birkin and Kelly bags. Many fashion enthusiasts cannot afford these designer bags because of their lofty price tags. The replica Hermes bags provide an affordable solution that allows fashion lovers to experience the allure of Hermes without breaking the bank. From understanding the different grades of replica Hermes bags to buying and caring for these coveted accessories, we'll cover everything you need to know about replica Hermes bags in this comprehensive guide.
Understanding Hermes Replica Bags
A replica Hermes bag is a copy of an iconic designer bag created by the French luxury fashion house. Replica Hermes bags offer a more accessible option for those who admire the brand's aesthetic but cannot afford originals since they mimic the design, materials, and details of authentic bags. Replica Hermes bags often feature leathers, exotic skins, and high-quality hardware that is meticulously crafted to replicate the originals, just as authentic bags do.
What to look for when grading quality
The different grades of replica Hermes bags and the differences in quality and craftsmanship are important when shopping for replica Hermes bags.
These handbags are crafted with precision and attention to detail, using premium materials that closely match those used in genuine Hermes bags, making them the highest quality replicas available. Replicas made by AAA are often crafted with impeccable stitching and logos, as well as hardware that is very similar to the originals, making them virtually indistinguishable from the originals.
While AA replicas are of lower quality than AAA replicas, they still offer excellent craftsmanship. Although AA replicas may not be exactly like authentic Hermes bags upon close inspection, they are well-made and durable, making them a popular choice for budget-conscious shoppers.
Replicas are usually less detailed and more affordable than authentic Hermes bags. Although A replicas might look like authentic Hermes bags from a distance, they usually do not have the same quality materials and craftsmanship as higher-grade replicas.
The ethical considerations
The ethical implications of supporting counterfeit goods are one of the primary concerns surrounding the purchase of replica Hermes bags. Replicate bags are a more affordable alternative to authentic designer bags, however, they are still considered counterfeit products that violate the rights of original designers.
Consider alternative options, such as pre-owned or vintage designer bags, that offer more sustainable and ethical ways to enjoy luxury fashion without supporting counterfeits, before purchasing replica bags.
Replica Hermes Bags: Tips for Buying
If you want to purchase replica Hermes bags online, it's crucial to research sellers thoroughly. Look for reputable sellers who have positive reviews and a track record of selling high-quality replicas.
Take a close look at the photos provided by the seller, especially the details such as logo placement, stitching, and hardware that can help you identify an authentic Hermes bag.
A reputable seller will not hesitate to provide you with any information you need to make an informed purchasing decision, including additional photos of the bag. Get more info about replica hermes handbags.
Tumblr media
Use secure payment methods, such as PayPal or a credit card, which provide added security and fraud protection. Don't use payment methods that offer little or no buyer protection, such as wire transfers or money orders.
Beware of sellers who offer replica Hermes bags at outrageously low prices. Trust your instincts and stay away from sellers who offer such low prices.
Ultimately, replica Hermes bags are an affordable option for fashion enthusiasts who admire the brand's aesthetic but cannot afford the originals. The best way to enjoy the allure of Hermes without breaking the bank is to understand the various grades of replicas, conduct extensive research, and follow expert tips to find a high-quality replica bag that is of high quality. For luxury fashion to be enjoyed responsibly, it's necessary to consider alternative options for enjoying counterfeit goods.
