After almost a year in the making, the Risk of Rain Fanzine, Convergence, is complete. It contains about 40 pieces from 29 artists in the community.

I did a void fiend run on monsoon with a fair number of artifacts, and it resulted in the most chaotic run I've ever had, like constantly switching forms and having random mobility and damaging effects.
anyhow these are the sketches that resulted from that.
(based on two runs I've had)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also, I did super-fast doodles of all the survivors.

Kur-Skan is such an intriguing character with so much potential. To me. If you even care,, Torn to pieces and tortured for years,(?)(we don't really know how much time passes between ror and ror2) reduced to twisted fragments of her being. All for the crime of yearning for freedom, an escape from Providence's zoo. The one thing he himself could not attain.
She is then made whole yet again, though she would never again be the same bird struck down by Providence on the Contact Light. No, she had become a twisted, malformed thing, with sunken eyes and grotesque hooks where once were hands. Not only that, but she shared this form with another, a soul who, from foolishness or some unknown motivation, rebuilt The Heretic.
Then, as if her mutilation wasn't enough, she must discover that the one who prevented her escape, who murdered her, is already dead. She channeled her wrath towards the closest thing to her killer. Using Providence's gifts, they mauled Mithrix, tore his flesh asunder with wretched hook and beak. And... then what? What remained for Kur-Skan? So they left, bitterly avenged and deeply lost.
Basically what I'm trying to say is that she's babygirl.

Okay so I know that Kur-skan isn’t in the risk of rain returns trailer so probably won’t be in the game
But, like, what if she was?
What if you could play as the heretic through the stages, with (an unkillable and massively souped up) providence not too far behind, no items, so it’s just a mad dash to the teleporter, beat the boss, then go to the next stage, with like a minute to find the next teleporter before providence arrives, rinse and repeat. Once you get to the final stage, instead of the crashed contact light you’re actually on the contact light, and you make your way to the bridge and have time ends when you get to the console (and then the cutscene where Kur-skan is killed plays out). Kur-skan is a very agile and mobile character, and if positioned correctly could get massive bursts of damage off with ruin. I think a mainly speedrun focused mode like this would be so damn cool.
Once you beat that mode you could unlock (non canon) the heretic as a survivor, other survivors could try out the speedrun mode, etc.
I really like my own idea lmao
If you have any thoughts let me know

Fun fact about ror2: if you’re playing monsoon trying to unlock the alternate color palette for a character, and you transform into the Heretic before you win the run, you won’t get the rewards for whoever you were playing bc you’re not that character anymore you’re the heretic

My review of the new Seekers of the Storm DLC.
When the new DLC dropped, I was shocked to look online and see that everyone actually had negative reviews of the dlc. Most of the reviews seem to be regarding bugs, which I can kind of forgive as I've also encountered some gamebreaking bugs, such as loaders grapple now doesn't grapple as it should, or a bug I encountered where enemies stop taking damage after stage 35, but my overall opinion of the dlc has actually been pretty strong.
Like, in terms of lore, I was actually pretty happy to see the dlc add onto the story of risk of rain, something I was really hoping to see more of. The details in the environmental storytelling of the new maps and how they reference the lore logs, how the new character False son feels like a continuation of the story of providence, etc.
I was even surprised to see people call the new survivors weak, though I wonder how much of that is just because people don't know how to play the characters yet. I've learned how to play every character except heretic and unlocked all abilities except 3, and my first impression was that Seeker, Chef, and False son are actually all really quite strong. They are all surprisingly fast and tanky as a baseline, even chef who is a bit more frail, and all three characters come with abilities that can heal them, much like rex. I actually would argue that the new survivors kind of feel too strong compared to base game characters (though i love them anyways).
The new items that were added I can argue are situational for most of them, but also again, I haven't had enough time to really test them out so I am a bit skeptical when people say the items seem bad as a default, as it hasn't really been enough time to really see how they stack or synergize with different characters. For me personally, I actually really like that they added items that add benefits for characters when they take damage or at low health, because it really synergizes with rex who is going to be taking damage constantly and frequently at low health. It incentives more risk seeking playstyles where it actually benefits to be at lower health rather than always playing an iron wall playstyle. They might not benefit every survivor, but I am happy to see it added into the meta of ror2. (Though I will say some of the red items feel underwhelming.)
The new stages in general seem pretty nice in terms of aesthetic, though the Helminth hatchery feels like it might be a bit annoying to play on for some characters even though aesthetically it is really cool.
All in all, I think the dlc is pretty strong but had a poor launch due to bugs, which I'm hoping get patched out soon. Perhaps I'll have more criticisms over time, but I felt like giving my opinion of the new dlc as I really liked it and was really saddened to see how it was recieved.

Playing modded ror2 is great, I get to prank Mithrix with not only
His one remaining follower on Twitter (Heretic) (Monsoon commando run, cleared his fight in 1:45)
His brother’s biggest fan (Paladin) (I almost died thrice)

cloutchase gamers ror2 picks
twitch - void fiend / bandit / mercenary (prefers complicated or fast gameplay)
discord - captain / acrid / railgunner (enjoys support and teamwork)
steam - commando / mul-t / engineer (usually plays tankier classes but i also think they’re the type to play survivors with simpler kits)
itch - artificer / rex (likes slower paced gameplay)
newgrounds - loader / heretic (likes being strong and risky)
kick - huntress (she autoaims)
