Geto Suguru wasn't the kind to celebrate his birthdays with much enthusiasm — it's not that he hated them… he just couldn't care less about them. And that’s what you decide you’d do. Your plan was to make tonight extra special. So, while you had materialistic gifts lined up, you had other things in mind to please the birthday boy.

You’d asked a friend to bake a batch of hash brownies, paying extra for good quality stuff, since you knew that’s how Suguru liked it – he was the type to easily distinguish good quality weed from the subpar one.

It was New Years Eve 2017, I’d been drug to this huge house party in LA. I hadn’t thought much of it when my friend invited me to tag along to his friend Ashton’s house party. Little did I know I’d be thrust into a world of searing passion, and freedom I’d never experienced before.

It was my first New Years being single in several years, you see I was fresh off a breakup. I’d been seeing it coming for awhile so I’d comes to terms with it ending, but the loneliness was palpable. I figured going out on NYE and actually having fun for once would do me some good. So, I went out and bought an amazing outfit, simple, but it did it’s job. Little black dresses never went out of style, paired with the one pair of Louboutin’s I owned (thanks to Beverly Hill’s thrift shops) and my signature red lip, I was ready to turn some heads.

I’d known Michael for awhile, we met through his girlfriend, but I had never met his band mates because my ex was incredibly jealous and more or less didn’t allow me to have male friends, especially if they were single. Of course I knew who they were, I didn’t live under a rock, I actually kinda liked their music, so I was looking forward to finally meeting them. Michael and Crystal picked me up on their way to the party, as I walked down the pathway from my town house to their car, Crystal rolled down the window and wolf whistled at me, “Oooo girl, you got a man?” 

I busted out laughing, “No ma’am I am single, and ready to mingle!” I threw my hands up and shook my hips for effect.

“You two are absolutely ridiculous,” Michael chuckled from the driver’s seat, “Now get in we’re already late!”

We pulled up to Ashton’s place around 11:30 PM, it was a duplex, and the party seemed to be spilling over into the other unit as well. As we walked up, Michael informed me that Ashton shared the duplex with their bassist Calum. People littered the driveway and front lawn, beer pong tables and chairs scattered about. We walked inside and were almost immediately greeted by a very inebriated Ashton, “HEY GUYSSS!” He threw his arms around Crystal and Michael’s necks, squeezing them into him, causing them to make pained faces, “Who’s your friend?” He gestured to me.

I held out my hand for him to shake, “Y/N.”

He let go of our friends, grabbed my hand and said, “We don’t shake hands around here babe, come here,” and he pulled me into a hug, “I’m Ashton, but you can call me, Ash,” he finished with a wink. 

It was at this exact moment I felt someone’s eyes boring into my back, I peeked over my shoulder to see if I could find the culprit responsible for the goosebumps now covering my skin, and my gaze was met by the most intense brown eyes I’ve ever seen in my life. I recognized him immediately, it was Calum, the bassist, and holy shit did he look incredibly hot dressed in all black. Leather jacket, black skinny jeans, black t-shirt, a beanie and black boots. He had the complete “bad boy” vibe going for him and I was INSTANTLY attracted. 

He held my stare for what felt like ages before taking the last swig of the beer in his hand, setting it down and walking towards me and our group of mutual friends. My heart skipped a beat as he walked up to me, hand brushing mine as he settled next to me.

He lifted my hand to his lips and placed a kiss to the back of it, I bit my lip in response, “Well hello gorgeous, I apologize for Michael’s rudeness for not introducing us sooner,” he quickly shot Michael a cocky smirk, Michael held up is hands in mock defense, as if to say, “my bad man.” 

 “I’m Calum,” he looked at me expectantly, still holding my hand.

“Y/n,” I said with as much sex appeal as I could muster. 

“Hey man, I saw her first!” Ashton said with a giggle.

Michael clapped his hands onto Ashton’s shoulders, “Come on man,” and led him away.

“You two have fun,” Crystal said suggestively with a sly smile. Ashton could be heard whining to Michael, “But she was so pretty.”

“Dude, trust me Cal has you beat here just give up,” Michael said to a disappointed Ashton. 

Calum and I both laughed awkwardly at the exchange we’d both just overheard. He was still holding my hand. 

“Can I get you a drink?” 

“Please,” I said with a laugh, as he led me into the kitchen where all the alcohol was stashed. 

“Pick your poison!” He said gesturing widely to the array of liquor bottles and mixers. I dug through the treasure trove until I found what I wanted, Jack Daniels and coke, I picked up the bottles and handed them to him, “Whiskey girl, huh? Mmm, yep. I like you already.” He smiled widely, his beautifully full lips framing his perfect teeth, I already found myself wanting to kiss them. He must have noticed me staring at his lips because he smirked as he passed me my drink.

“I think we should take a shot real quick, to celebrate,” he said as he poured us each a shot of whiskey.

“And what exactly are we celebrating?”

“Well New Years for one,” he raised an eyebrow to me, “And to new friends,” this time he shot me a wink.

“To new friends,” I held up my shot glass for him to cheers with me, he entangled our arms, clinked our glasses, and we took our shots. As we set down our shots glasses our bodies moved closer together so my chest was just barely pressed against his. I looked up to see him staring at my lips, I leaned into him further, his full lips were so inviting. The fact that I was a lightweight meant the one shot of whiskey was already coursing through my veins, liquid courage as they say, and I found myself kissing him. 

His hands quickly attached to my body, one on my hip slowly kneading into my ass, the other on my waist, both holding me to him tightly. 

“Well that sure was fast,” we broke apart to see Michael leaning against the door frame, arms crossed, smirking at us. 

“Fuck off, Michael,” Calum laughed as he took my hand and led me out to the backyard.

The backyard was surprisingly deserted, everyone had made their way inside to watch the ball drop and scream “Happy New Year!” with their friends as they kissed their significant others, or strangers.

“Hey everybody, it’s 5 minutes til midnight!” Ashton screamed, as he ironically began to blare the song “5 Minutes to Midnight” by Boys Like Girls.

As the song played, Calum and I sipped our drinks and shared a cigarette, the nicotine and the alcohol making my head swim. We were sat next to each other on a bench in a dimly lit corner, my legs crossed towards him, my ankle brushing slowly and repetitively against his. He took the last drag of our shared cigarette, flicked it aside and ran his hand up my thigh, just under the hem of my dress, caressing the naked flesh beneath.

Cassian Andor x Reader

Summary: Reader hopes to finally admit her feelings to Cassian. What better place to do it than a party?

Warnings: Little bit of angst and fluff, brief mention/hint of smut

A/N: Song is So Close by Jon McLaughlin. I am such a sucker for this song.

You sighed as you looked through your closet for something—anything—that would be decent to wear to the celebration that was being thrown tonight. You had spent the last few days trying to find something to wear for tonight and each time you were unsuccessful. This was going to be one of the first parties you had been to in a while, and to say you were nervous was not an exaggeration.

It’s not that you didn’t enjoy parties per say, you were always busy with work. Being a mechanic, you would always be working on multiple ships until the late hours, getting only a couple hours of sleep, before going back in early. This meant you hardly had any free time and when you did, you would usually try to catch up on some sleep.

You believed you were really only going to this party for two main reasons. The first being that it was a big celebration over a win against the Empire and the second being that your friends would not stop nagging you about being anti-social. But the truth is that you were hoping to see and talk to your long-time crush and good friend, Cassian Andor.

You and Cassian had met through work. Whenever his ship first needed to be worked on, it was K-2SO who suggested you be the one to fix it because you had offered to fix one or two fried circuits of his despite your heavy workload. Cassian figured you must have been a good mechanic if K2 was giving such high praises about you, so he went to find you.

After that moment, he only trusted you to fix his ship because he believed that you were one of the best mechanics on Yavin 4. Every time he would bring his ship for a maintenance check-up, he would strike up any conversation with you. Well, at least try to.

Ever since Cassian came around you more often, you were a bashful mess. He was so sweet to you and would always bring you lunch or a snack when he knew that you had spent many hours working. He and K2 would always make sure to walk you back to your quarters when you would finish in the late hours. The two of you, three if you counted K2, became fairly close and – of course – you were the one that ended up with a big crush on him.

And now here you were: staring at your closet hoping that something would just appear and jump onto your body. Groaning, you decided to give up and throw yourself face first onto your bed. Beeping from your droid, R2-K5, caused you to lift your head up and stare at the droid,

“I know, Fives, but I can’t find anything to wear. If I was dressing up for a day of work, sure, but not a party,” R2-K5 beeped again and you buried your face in your hands.

“Maybe it’s a sign,” R2-K5 beeped in confusion and you shook your head, “maybe I shouldn’t go to this party, it isn’t like—“

A knock from your door caused you to shoot your head up and R2-K5 turned towards the door.

You figured it was probably one of your friends coming to nag you about not being ready. Trying to come up with an excuse as to why you weren’t ready, you stood up and walked towards the door. When you opened it, there was no one there. You blinked a couple times before taking a step forward—accidentally kicking something which caught your attention.

A midnight blue box tied with a white ribbon sat on the floor and you slowly reached down to grab it, but not before glancing both ways down the corridor first. As you came back into your room, you slowly untied the ribbon and lifted the lid off. A gasp escaped from your mouth and, before you grabbed the dress, you pulled out a note that was sitting on top.

A little bird, or shall I say droid, told me you were having trouble finding something to wear for tonight. Hope you’re ready to be the most beautiful being at the celebration.

The note wasn’t signed and as you set it aside, you couldn’t pull your gaze away from the dress as you pulled it out of the box. It was a beautiful, midnight blue sleeveless gown with a sweetheart cut. Jewels faded from the bottom up in an ombré fashion reminded you of the stars that formed the galaxy.

R2-K5 beeped excitedly, pulling you out of your trance as you looked down at the droid.

“Guess there is no excuse now, right Fives?”

The dining hall was unrecognizable as Cassian walked in with Jyn and Bodhi—almost as if the war was nonexistent. Generals who usually walked around expressionless were now grinning widely as they were conversing with their counterparts. All the tables that were usually placed in the middle of the dining hall were pushed out of the way the make for a dancefloor that was already filled with dancers. The atmosphere was exciting and carefree, something Cassian hadn’t felt in many years.

Baze and Chirrut walked up, handing drinks to their friends as they started up a conversation about the party. Cassian sipped his drink—relaxing as his body was overcome with a warm feeling—and let his eyes scan the hall.

“Looking for anyone in particular, Captain?”

Cassian choked on his drink as Chirrut came up to him, not donning his usual robe but rather a dark, forest green suit with a black tie. Clearing his throat, he began to stammer

“I, uh, d-don’t know what you mean, Chirrut.” Chirrut placed a hand on Cassian’s shoulder and squeezed,

“You may not see and I’m supposed to be the blind one,” Cassian shook his head and chuckled as Chirrut smiled at him, “but I can see how light and radiant the Force is when you are around her. “ Cassian released a breath and before he could reply, he overheard Jyn say to Bodhi,

“Wow! Y/N looks amazing!” Cassian was quick to look towards the entrance and as his eyes landed on you, he became breathless.

There you were, in that midnight blue dress that he knew was going to look marvelous on you. The dress formed around you perfectly and he could not help but stare in awe as it flowed behind you while you made your way towards a group of your friends. But that wasn’t what caught his attention. The way your eyes glistened as you took in the scenery was enough to make his heart skip a beat.

It almost slipped your mind that you were really on a rebel base when you stepped foot in that dining hall. As you made your way towards your friends, Mira, Connor, and Nelia, you couldn’t help yourself from looking all around—taking in the wonderful feeling that surrounded you.

“Y/N! You came!” Your friend Mira called out and you reached out to hug her. As you said hi to all of your other friends, everyone began to compliment on your dress.

“Your dress is amazing, Y/N! Where did you get it?” Connor asked and you shrugged your shoulder.

“Well… that is um, it was a gift actually. I don’t know who got it for me.”

“Well whoever did certainly has taste,” Nelia winked, “you have definitely caught everyone’s attention.” You rolled your eyes.

“Whatever, you guys, no one has even taken notice of me,” From the corner of your eye, you saw Connor elbow Mira,

“Are you sure, Y/N? Because Cassian Andor is making his way towards you right now.”  Your eyes widened and you quickly turned your head to find that Mira was right.

Cassian was walking straight towards you—his eyes never once straying away from you. You began to pick at your fingernails out of nervousness when Cassian stopped right in front of you and your friends. Cassian finally looked away, but only for a moment to nod at your friends, and his gaze was back on you.

“Y/N, it’s uh, it’s good to see you.” You could feel the heat in your cheeks rise up,

“Thanks, Cassian, it’s good to see you too. You clean up nice,” Cassian glanced down but you caught the slight crook in his mouth as he did so. Why did he seem so nervous?

The upbeat music that was once playing had switched to a slower, more romantic song.

You're in my arms, and all the world is calm. The music playing on for only two.

“Oh! I love this song, come dance with me you two,” Connor demanded while pulling Mira and Nelia away, leaving you and Cassian standing in an awkward silence. You looked down at your hands once more, trying to hide the embarrassment from your face.

So close, together.

“Y/N,” your head shot up to see a flustered looking Cassian, who had his hand held out to you, “would you… like to dance?”

And when I'm with you

Your head shot up and you noted that Cassian looked somewhat different. Cassian’s usual, distinguished look was now overcome with slight intimidation—a feeling that you usually felt when you were around him. Smiling slightly, you nodded and softly placed your hand in his strong, calloused one and followed him to the dance floor.

So close, to feeling alive.

Cassian stopped and turned towards you, hesitating before pulling you closer to him, placing your other hand on his shoulder before placing his on your hip. You watched intently as he did so, trying hard not to melt at the thought of him being so close to you. Cassian’s gaze finally lifted and his eyes locked on with yours.

A life goes by, Romantic dreams must die.

Cassian took the lead—as he always did—and you would have never guessed before this moment that he knew how to dance.

So I bid my goodbye And never knew.

The way his steps fell in right after the other and how he kept the movements in sync for not only his body, but yours as well. Yeah, he definitely knew what he was doing.

So close, was waiting, Waiting here with you. And now, forever, I know

Cassian removed his hand from your waist, slightly pushing you away whilst still holding onto your right hand. Before you knew what was happening, he began to spin you around twice before pulling you back, placing his hand on the same spot of your waist and taking two steps forward, then two steps back.

All that I wanted to hold you so close.

The steps were becoming a little too complex for you and you found yourself looking down at your feet, trying not to clumsily step on Cassian’s.

So close to reaching That famous happy end.

“Don’t look down,” Cassian whispered in your ear and you glanced back up, your nose almost brushing against his, “I got you.” Swallowing, you nodded and eventually fell in-step with him—not once removing eye contact.

Almost believing This one's not pretend.

You didn’t realize that your chest was flush against Cassian’s as he continued to sway the two of you along the dance floor. Twisting and turning the two of you in so many ways you didn’t know was possible for you to do.

And now you're beside me, And look how far we've come. So far we are. So close...

It was as if the two of you were the only ones on the dance floor—that all eyes were on you. But you didn’t care. In this moment, all that mattered was that you were with him, and you had to tell him just that.

Cassian spun you once last time and pulled you close—his hot breath on your face. As the two of you slowed to a stop, you tightened your grip on the sleeve of his jacket. Both of your chests were rising and you could see how blown Cassian’s eyes were. This was it. This was the moment.

“Cassian, I have to—“

“Hey, Cassian,” the two of you turned to find Bodhi with an apologetic look on his face, “I-I’m sorry but something’s happened. They need the entire Rogue One crew.”

Oh how could I face the faceless days

It felt as if the entire galaxy just stopped. Cassian looked back at you with a sad look in his eyes,

“I’m so sorry, Y/N—“

If I should lose you now?

“No, it’s okay,” you smiled softly, trying to hide the hurt you were feeling, “thank you for the, uh, dance.” You looked away from Cassian, missing the look of regret on his face. Not realizing your hand was still intertwined with his, you slightly jumped when he gently squeezed it before pulling away. We're so close to reaching that famous happy end,

Your hand instantly felt cold—missing the warm, comforting touch of Cassian—as you lowered it to your side. Finally having the courage to look up, you caught a glimpse of Cassian just as he left the dining hall.

And almost believing, this one's not pretend.

As you stood alone on the dance floor, you could feel just how heavy your heart felt as you realized he could be going somewhere and never return.  What if this was the last that you got to see of him?

Let's go on dreaming for we know we are...

You needed to get out of there. It was becoming too much for you. You needed to leave the dining hall and go to the safety and privacy of your bedroom— away from the pitying looks from your friends, co-workers, and fellow rebels. A tear slipped down your cheek and you quickly wiped it away before picking up your dress and jogging out of the dining hall, ignoring the calls from Connor, Mira, and Nelia.

So close, so close and still so far...

You had spent the last few hours alone in your bedroom, not bothering to remove your dress as your tears soaked your pillow. Your mind stayed on Cassian and the way he looked at you. Cassian had looked at you like you were one of the brightest stars in the galaxy.

And that made your heart hurt more.

A quiet knock startled you and you stayed quiet, hoping that whoever was at the door would think you weren’t in your room and go away. R2-D5 beeped earnestly as he tried to get you to open the door before whoever it was left. After a few quiet moments, you heard another knock.

Sighing, you wiped the tears from your eyes as you stood up and made your way to your door. When you opened it, you barely had any time to process that it was Cassian who was at the door as he reached both hands out to the sides of your face and connected his lips to yours.

Your eyes widened but you slowly started to melt into the kiss, closing your eyes while pulling onto his shirt to bring him closer as you matched your lips to his. The kiss was everything you imagined—and so much more. It felt as if you were finally complete.

Cassian pulled away and gazed down upon you—his hands still on both sides of your face.

“I never got a chance to tell you how beautiful you looked in that dress,” you could feel your cheeks heat up and Cassian rubbed his thumbs up against them, “I knew it would look amazing on you.”

“Y-you’re the one who—“

“Yes, I just, I had been planning on telling you for a couple of days now how I felt but I was… scared that you didn’t feel the same way. That why when K2 told me that Fives mentioned something about you not being able to find anything to wear, I thought it would be nice—“

You cut him off by pressing your lips against his one more and he reciprocated the kiss. When you pulled away, your heart skipped a beat as you looked up to find Cassian’s eyes filled with the same desire that was in them moments ago.

“I have wanted to tell you how I have felt as well, Cassian. I… I love you,” Cassian let out a breath of relief and smiled at you, placing one more kiss on your forehead,

“I love you too, Y/N,” As you continued to gaze up at him, an idea popped into your head, and you smirked. Cassian furrowed his brows and was about to ask you what was on your mind until,

“While I have very much enjoyed this dress, Captain, I think now would be a wonderful time to slip into something more comfortable,” Cassian smirked back and slid his hands onto the top of your bare shoulders,

“I couldn’t agree more.”
