I got into an interesting conversation about Japanese society with a Japanese colleague which rambled from whether tofu mimics estrogen to hikikomori (acute social withdrawal) and onto soushokudanshi or "herbivore men". The latter is characterised by men whom are uninterested in relationships with women and is seen as a problem with regard to declining birth rates. It is a roundabout thought pattern, but it popped into my mind that being a vegetarian does not make one a "herbivore" of this kind. Just a super-quick design.
