I’ve taken a deeper dive today analyzing the DM pics (I have a job, who even have I become 😩), and the pics were taken in 2 different locations - after party and wherever they went to next. If you look at the tiles on the ground they are different. Also, the pics on DM’s website at the second location appear to be out of order, probably purposely so. And this makes this whole thing all the more suspect.

In the afterparty location, L walks ahead of A and L’s sister and then outside, where Tifaine says he went straight to them to greet them, and A went to the car. This is shown in the first few pics.

At the second location, L walks ahead of A and stops to sign something from a fan. A stands right beside him as the photos are being taken. Then, this is where it gets strange. The next couple pics are L walking into the building (restaurant, hotel, who knows) and A is behind him. L’s security isn’t even looking at A and she looks like she stumbled or something going in the door behind him. HOWEVER, I think those pics are out of order and were taken after the last few pics which seem to show A catching up with L and trying to hold his hand while he is not really having it (the last pic is the most his fingers bend to meet hers). You can see the entrance to the building ahead of them on the left, whereas the previous couple pics they are already going in the door. Seems L was walking ahead of A towards the entrance, she tries to catch up to hold his hand but fails, because then he is walking in the door ahead of her again and security isn’t even looking at her.

Not proud of that deep dive haha. BUT, L doesn’t look exactly enthusiastic, didn’t hold her hand and in fact looks like after she tried, he pulled away and walked ahead of her again. Suspect.

DM is claiming that the pics are from the hotel and that’s what the paps told her. Okay, well they’re clearly not. So, who called the paps? DM claims the paps showed up to the hotel on their own bc Luke is a hot ticket. And no other Bridgerton cast is? Why did the paps show up at the after party right when L was leaving? How did they know to be there at that moment? And why would they follow L to a second location? DM is going so hard claiming this all just happened by happenstance. Ridiculous.

Someone called the paps. From the pics, it looks like L did not want that interaction to happen. A looked very pleased that it was happening (in both locations). But, we are told that she wouldn’t have the clout to call paps out to a location. Someone in the industry on TT said often the women in a couple call paps and go to People with a story. I’d like to think A didn’t call them, but given the few weeks between premieres (plus the conveniently leaked and edited videos of N and A hugging at the NY premiere), I really think it’s possible she did. There are 2 other options: 1) Luke/his people called the paps or 2) Some 3rd party who is trying to sabotage Luke.

I can’t wrap my mind around Luke’s motive to call the paps on premiere night, especially seeing the (not) hand holding pics. He didn’t want that interaction to take place. I would totally think differently if he walked side by side with A or held her hand or even looked at her, but he didn’t. He also had pursed lips and looked a bit stressed. Those pics showed he interacted with 2 sets of fans while A lurked around him, then tried and failed to catch up with him.

Could a 3rd party other than L or A have called the paps? I guess that’s possible and adds a whole other layer to this. But, either way, DM manipulated the order of those pics, probably in order to tell the story she’s trying to sell, and is now going very hard at defending herself while claiming neither L or A were involved.

Tokoyami: As soon as Dark Shadow attempted to pull you into him, you twisted your body around and slammed your foot into Tokoyamk's side. With a grunt, his Dark Shadow had released its hold. Since when did his delicate star knew how to defend herself?! His annoyance grew. He just found you after a month, he wasn't about to just let you go that easily.

"My sweet little star, suddently so strong. Why must you insist on rejecting me? You are mine. Now come."

Kirishima: You struggle against his tight hold. A lazy grin is spread across his face, thinking there's no way you can escape. But the training you did for the last month was finally put to use when you flicked your fingers twords the mailbox, making it fly right into him. It didn't hurt him but it shocked him enough to loosen his grip so you can slip out and bolt. The grin on his face is slowly replaced by anger.

"Pebble, pebble, pebble! You need to stop RUNNING from me! No matter how much you prepare, I will ALWAYS find you!"

Hawks: The grip he has on you is becoming difficult as you squirm in his hold. He can't keep you from falling if you don't stop! But you weren't worried about that. Not at all. With a hand free, you wave it near a solar panel on top of a nearby tower, causing it to shift and snap. With one last kick to the man, he yelps and drops you. But you didn't fall far, as the hovering solar panel was quick to catch you. Hawk's face is a mixture of amusment and anger.

"Oh, birdy's been practicing. Come back here, baby bird. How about we fly TOGETHER?"

Tamaki: You felt the slickness of the tentacles wrap around your limbs, letting out a scream. You had to get out. Now. So that's when you turn your body around to face the once shy man and grabbed his tentacles with your hands, pulling him to you with your newfound strength. Once his body is flush against yours, you do the only thing you know could catch him offguard. You kiss him. Man is so shocked, he looses control of his quirk and you are able to get out and take off. That's when his face turns darker than it ever has.

"M-My bunny has been getting stronger and bolder. Oh, Bunny~ I'm coming for you and I won't ever stop."

Overhaul: After bringing you back to his place, (safely away from your neighborhood), what he didn't expect was for your quirk to have enhanced. Almost to the point of his strength. Your eyes flit around the room to land on a potted plant. Before he could put his hands on you once more, you stretched out a hand at the pot and threw it at him, smashing it into his back. He collapsed on the floor with a groan and you SPRINTED out of there. Because you knew if he caught you, you were fucked. He stands up on shakey legs, taking his gloves off.

"You think you can escape me?! NO amount of training will save you. I will TEAR this world apart until you are on your knees before me for eternity!"

Shoto: You knew only one person who can produce ice and the fact he was behind you terrified you. But you trained for this, you knew you had to get away. You swing your arm around and push him away with as much force as you can, til he slammed into the side of a house. You quickly make work of the ice around your feet with a rock til you broke free. But before you can run, you hear a voice behind you. Turning, you see the darkest look you've ever seen on him.

"Oh, my pet. You can train for as long as you want. You will never leave me again, I will see to it."

Dabi: The hand gripping the back of your neck gets tighter and tighter. You needed to get away as soon as possible. So you finally out your training to good use. He never would have expected you to reach behind you and latch onto his arm. With a mixture of strength and quirk, you flipped him over your shoulder and onto his back with a loud crack. You didn't even spare a glace at him before you started bolting.

"Mouse, how strong you've gotten. I guess I don't mind playing this game a little longer. Because, after all, in the end, I always get what I want."

Bakugo: You couldn't help but recoil at the profanities being spat in your face. He held you down as tight as he could, fearing you to leave him again. But to his surprise, you weren't going down without a fight. You intertwined your legs with his and bent your wrists to grab his, flipping you two over so you're on top. He stares at you in shock, before a manic grin takes over.

"Oi, angel. I had no idea you were so strong. You must have trained during our time apart. But I've finally found you. You're safe with me and I hope you know it will stay that way."

Denki: After coming to, you realized you were somewhere you've never been. A bedroom of sorts. You remember exactly what happened, which makes it more confusing for you when you realize he didn't tie you down?? Idiot. But he did lock the door. That wasn't sometbing to be worried about for you. Getting into your stance, you lifted up a leg and swiftly kicked a hole straight through the door and were able to run. But he saw. He saw everything through his security cameras.

"Damn it, damn it, damn it! I knew I should have tied her down. I didn't expect this kind of strengtj! Kinda hot... I'm coming for you, my love. I will make sure to restrain you this time."

Midoriya: He's strong, very fast and DETERMINED. This was going to be a hard one. But you didn't train yourself til almost death for you to give up now. You lean your head forward and slam it back into his. Hard. He reels for a moment, his grip dropping. You then lift your hand and point it to a nearby car, throwing it at him. He us caught offguard but was able to stop it. Once he looks up at you, your blood runs cold.

"Darling has bulked up, huh. Oh this is going to be SO much FUN! But you still won't be escaping me that easily. Come here, my darling~"

Shinso: Why. Why did it have to be him. The one you were most terrified of. The hardest one to break from. You try to move your body. You try but it's so hard. Come, y/n, you trained for this. Break his hold, BREAK HIS HOLD. Your mind concentrates as he watches you with amusement. The closer he gets, the more internally anxious you become. But finally, your training pays off as you wiggle a finger and a nearby garden stake slices through your leg. Shinso freezes in shock. How the HELL were you able to break out of his hold?!

"Kitten has got fuckin claws, I see. Oh, no no. You are NOT getting away from me again. I will BREAK you into my little plaything, if it's the last thing I do."

I just finished Domesticated, is really awesome n incredibly written but, i just don't get the ending (not trying to be an ass by the way) in the comments ppl seem to like it... is just, I find the whole Felix-Y/N thing so obviously about Felix being the dick, like he called her a hocker, treated her as a maid n all that shit 4 Y/N to b like "u poor thing u deserve better" NO HE DOESN'T i-- I get the whole explanation about his feelings but it made me so mad that Y/N didn't get an actual apology Like why would she let his treat her like that n don't say a thing? How isn't not like a reason to leave Chan's ass? He did nothing to defend her when his brother was a dick but expected her 2 treat Lix the best way? Again not trying to be an ass... But i obviously missed something, somewhere cuz I don't get it 😭 Maybe 'm just protecting n just the missed the actual point of it all

Interesting! First off, thanks for leaving this! I crave feedback of any kind, so this is important for me to answer. Plus, I rarely have any criticisms against Domesticated, so I'm ready to break this down.

To start, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so when you read my response under the cut (since it's rather long), please know that it's just my explanation of why I wrote things the way I did. It's not meant to defend my writing or say that you're wrong.

Okay!

The Felix component of this story is very complicated. From the beginning, Felix and Y/N have never gotten along (this goes all the way back to when Y/N first met Chan when they were in high school and Chan and Felix moved there from Australia)

For most of his life, Chan has been Felix's best friend. He's always relied on him. Moreso, when they moved because Felix had trouble making friends.

Yet, when Chan starts bringing around Y/N, Felix isn't happy because suddenly Chan isn't stuck to him like glue anymore. It would basically be like us in real life watching our best friend start spending all of their time with someone else.

Of course, most people would be disappointed, but they would certainly communicate? Felix does neither. He's angry and upset, and he doesn't talk to Chan about it. Instead, he takes everything out on Y/N who, I'd like to point out, meets Felix, sees that he doesn't like her, and just sort of accepts that he never will. Again, no communication or anything to fix this.

And yes, Felix is quite mean, but I never wrote him to be violent or anything other than a pest who just wanted to make things harder for Y/N.

It's always important to point out that before Domesticated, Y/N and Felix never had to live together or anything like that, so being forced to spend so much time in the same space only escalated things.

You make a very good criticism that Chan never defends Y/N, but I did it this way because Chan never really sees anything too drastic. Like, yes, he sees Felix being rude or annoying, but he doesn't see Felix ordering her around or calling her the really horrible names. He doesn't even see Felix calling her a hooker from that one scene before the party, and Y/N never tells him about any of this either.

Why? She knows Chan wants them to get along, she wants to make him happy, but she doesn't know how to make this connection happen. So, instead, she tries to push the Felix problem under the rug and just deal with it the best she can.

When she does bring up Felix to Chan, it's to complain that he doesn't like her or that he annoys her. She doesn't explain and never goes into detail about why she thinks he doesn't like her or why he annoys her. Again, a communication problem that shouldn't have gone so long without being addressed.

As for leaving Chan, well I don't think she could ever do that. I wrote her as a character who had Chan defend her when Changbin broke her heart and then support her through literally every hard time in her life. It's hard to leave someone who loves you so much.

You also said that you felt overprotective of the main character, which I totally get. Whenever I read fics or watch movies, I'm always siding with the main character, even if they do something bad, I'm thinking, "Hey, it was just one mistake!"

Finally, to this day I felt that the ending was a little rushed, but I was very eager to finish Domesticated and share it with everyone because I felt very proud of it. Perhaps the reconciliation between Chan, Felix, and Y/N deserved some more time and writing. However, Chan is a character who wants to be a peacemaker, he loves Felix and Y/N both more than anything, and he's so insistent on them getting along that he honestly ignores their hostility and insults and just wants them to be friends. That's certainly a character fault for him.

AKA this is me saying that Domesticated Chan is in no way perfect, but he is human and he is realistic.

Ultimately, a little bit of communication on all three ends could've gone a long way, but these characters have a lot of history together. This problem could've been fixed a long time ago before it had a chance to escalate to something so extreme.

Anyway, I appreciate this ask, and I understand that you have no intentions to be rude. I doubt this response will change your mind because the characters are written a certain way and this problem with Felix literally couldn't have gone any other way. Their faults and the way their characters were created to handle this problem really created a big mess.

Gossip Girl Reboot, Ep. 2 Reaction / Review

This was posted on reddit first, crossing posting it here since I’ve chosen to review the ep’s and post on tumblr as well. So, this post is geared more towards reddit as a whole, this was posted a day after ep 2 aired.

i don't have a favorite character rating but #teamaki, yeah, the acting is awkward but it's getting better and it's not like it's the only bad acting in the show. i like the character either way.

people are so extra with zoya and obie and are looking at julien with the rose colored classes. yeah, obie shouldn't be dating zoya but let's not act like julien gave her all and everything to him. from the conversation with zoya in ep 1, his general feelings, audrey calls it out (maybe because she always feels that way)

She admits it at the end, she wouldn’t do the things he wanted when it came to his interest, he’d want to do random and fun things and she’d blow him off...how is this mart of someone fully invested in their other, no, she was invested what he did for her and how he made her feel. She misses him because in their other breaks he’d always come back. We saw a dying relationship and ppl can assume a lot about him but make 0 assumptions when it comes to her.

And then y’all expect Zoya to turn down the one person who’s actually nice, doesn’t ice her out and shares interest? What I want more than anything is for Zoya to find her own friends & her romantic interest, just one episode where her life isn’t an extension of Julien's. Idk wut, maybe she can go off on a find out gossip girl adventure. Idk something.

Then this talk about sisters and sister hood. Yeah, they’re blood related but what sisterhood is there? You say that’s is wrong for Zoya to do that to her sister but what about what her sister did to her? Even in this ep, she wants Obie so instead of idk driving Zoya away from him, she attacks her lil ‘sis’ over her long time boyfriend. She continues to let her friends talk bad about the girl. We can talk sister hood when she gives the mean team a good “learn me or leave me” when it comes to Zoya

At the of ep 1 Zoya says, she’s not playing the game. She’s grounded in fear of losing her scholarship, has already lost her dads trust. So she does that, she keeps her head down and doesn’t bother anyone but it’s the mean team to prompt Julien to after Zoya and she does. She’s minding her business at the even and Julien is the one to storm over and cause a scene. And it’s all about her, she’s scared of her dad finding out without any care that Zoya has lost and what she has left to lose. Of course she doesn’t care about Julien personal problems? When did Julien care really about hers? Then, she wants to sneak away and have fun and because she’s mad Zoya won’t run off and hide like a hood little girl, she once again collabs with GG, brings in the dads and fucks her sisters life up, AGAIN. Yeah, she changed her mind at the end but too little too late. Her come to jesus moment was great but the relationship she wanted/wants it very much damaged.

So yeah, Zoya dating the one person who has empathy for her is not as bad as the older sister who consistently let her be talked down, about and two, plotted with GG and didn’t even ask her if she was okay because, she didn’t mean it, it’ll blow over. Even in the very last apology when Zoya was about to leave, you could see that she had 0 faith in Julien, not only as a sister but as a person.

Which leads me to saying that Julien is probs the most interesting character of the show. She’s lovable and flawed and she is good but she as of right now, she’s mean at worst and horribly complicit at best because right now her career is a bit more important but her 14 year old sister doesn’t deserve the headache of navigating her with her. But I do love Julien because she has layers and I think by the end, she’ll be able to have her influencer career without compromising herself. That does lead us to the the chairmen and co-chair of the mean team.

Monet and Luna weren’t around as much but I do think...I do think...that if Julien goes nice, they’re gonna go super nasty. They have access to her life which mean access to that video if Julien didn’t out right delete it or they find out about it and snooping. They’re her friends but unlike her, they don’t have a much of a Conscious so far of right and wrong and they’ll strike anyone down. I think if we have wild cards, they’re it. If Julien really does go down a new path, learns more to fight for what matters and understand the real her is just as likable, the mean duo will not accept and will try and bring her down. They have their own meaning of friends with benefits.

My dude Obie, I can’t say much. I don’t think he’s as Malicious as y’all make him out to be but he is a bit callous and naïve...which could be worse tbh. I think he does want to do good but he only knows Performative good to counter-act his parents. I do want him to get with someone else but I do hope he learns what true activism means through Zoya and understand how much of a difference he could make if he really put his mind to it. I also want him to learn get out quick, because he wasn’t just looking for a reason to end things but one to stay and Julien didn’t give him that.

Audrey, I like the stuff with her mom. I like the little bit more depth we got, she slept with Max maybe but Aki made out with him, who am I to judge? I hope her mon can step up in the future but I don’t think it’ll be easy and hopefully they explore it more. Not just tease us. Her mom needs therapy but I think I'm a bit invested in her too.

Max, I love max but the dude is Pretentious ~ above earthly love ~ low key a shitty friend and talks in metaphors whenever he has the chance BUT he does it well. I don’t see him with Aki but I want it! I do see him going harder after Audrey but I think he was a bit shocked for all his flirting that he was into the kids with Aki. I think he lives to play with people. I don't know if he really likes Audrey but he does want to bang her, a lot, a lot a lot. I don't think he really wanted to sleep with Aki but he did like playing with him and he could pick up the fact that Aki might be feeling him. I don't think the interest was really, real until Aki kissed him at the pool, home boy was shocked and was like oooo maybe something is there but his focus is on the teacher. And I also think the not in a million years thing had his gears turning too. You tell him it can't or won't happen and now he wants to make it happen.

Aki, my baby, my voice of reason. What makes him great as a person, makes him not great for Audrey when it comes to emotional stuff. He means well and I get where he's coming from with wanting Audrey to understand her mom but she did need a partner. The thing she loves about him is the thing that makes it hard. I don't know how Aki was brought up but I feel like this plays into it, she's always comparing him to a therapist. I wonder if his parents a bit more emotionally cold or curt or just very analytical people. But, like he's been lovely since ep one, the only one of the group to sort of defend Zoya or Julien wanting to know her / keep her secret. (What secrets does he have?) And in ep 2, he really was like 'ya'll fucked in the head' to the mean team. I know some consider him boring because he doesn't speak up often but when he does speak up, he got something to say. I want the show to use him in a way to stir drama just by being friends, his character doesn't have to have a dramatic effect and he could get his own little subplot that's tied into the show but like, my can't become some douche. (If he does, only for a bit.) Now, I don't see Max being endgame for him AT ALL. If it's between the two, Max would go for Audrey for sure while leading my boi on in ways, he could even really start to like him but endgame no. I'd love to see a scene with Max does get jealous of Aki with another dude, in a romantic way or the dude could be hitting on him, I think Aki would be able to humble him just a bit because no one really seems to know what he's thinking. In the end, idk who he ends up with but I want him to find someone who will do my dude right and he should get some non-shitty friends who'll listen to his problems. (Still not over that Max)

The teachers while being shown more, don't have much of a presence. It's mainly Kate and the goofy one for extended scenes. KATE MY GOOD SIS. NO. Please, I want this to be the point where she loses GG somehow and someone takes over or maybe another GG pops up, can market better and isn't willing to have a faltering moments. I want it to spiral. Spiral hard. Also, sexy teach said not on my watch ezra! I stan him. Teachers are still fun for me, they make me want to never teach at a dumb rich private school.

Also, fuck the dads within reason. Esp, Julien's dad but only because we got to see Zoya's more and he is kinda in the right about most of the stuff but not the sister stuff. You can tell he's doing his best to instill morals in his daughter esp when he knows she can fall to outside influences.

Overall, I'm still enjoying it, I'm invested. I see room for growth for all of the characters (maybe not the teachers) and I want to see it play out. It does feel a little rushed but I think they're finding their footing and they have some big things to pull. But's not horrible and if they just play the drama bit longer and then conclude, it wouldn't feel that way. Maybe one more episode or half an episode could've been added to the Zoya-Obie-Julien story line to fully flush it out but I like the ending. Not sisters, not friends but cool with each and possibly re-build, at worst they just don't interact. I noticed some cool things with the promos but I need to confirm when I can find the one for 3.

ngl my very first thought was that it reminded me of same love by macklemore skdjdskjdskjsd but not in a bad way!

literally some of the prettiest lyrics, i knew just from this song that this would top red as her best lyrically (best album in general)

honestly just rly sad and sweet and one of those songs that has such a universal sound i feel?

also the simplest song of the album lyrically (also not in a bad way, just like objectively this is the easiest subject matter on the album with the least opaque lyrics), so a really good opener

best lyrics: “we never painted by the numbers baby but we were making it count/you know the greatest loves of all time are over now” and “we were something don’t you think so/roaring twenties tossing pennies in the pool/and it my wishes came true it would’ve been you”

CARDIGAN:

i was surprised by the darkish sound of this one

idk what that like clanking sound in the background is but i find it a lil distracting in the first half of the song - but if i ever find out what it is and it has some symbolic meaning/purpose for being there (i assume it does) i’ll accept it sdjknsd

i love the nostalgia that is so present in like almost every song on this album :(

also the music video is stunning and frames the entire album in the most interesting way, metaphor-wise

THE LAST GREAT AMERICAN DYNASTY:

love this one bc it’s like a nice lil exhale in an album filled with angst, like it’s cute and boppy without being aggressive

i’m suddenly absolutely obsessed with rebekah harkness, particularly the “bitch pack” thing and her dyeing someone’s dog green

i love taylor’s storytelling and i love how that’s always been a big part of her approach to songwriting. this is taylor at her best narration, like starlight but so much better. this is a type of songwriting that is so underused these days, esp by mainstream artists and i love so much that she has always used it and been so invested in it

the pronoun change made me screech. sooo goooood

taylor’s obv a deeply autobiographical artist which is why it’s so incredible to hear her tell OTHER people’s stories and somehow make them so her own. like i think it’s mostly the english major in me that just gets so emotional over that...... the way that other people’s stories became our own through the way we tell them......

this song is def the one that is most explicit about the album’s theme of telling stories but ones that tell something about her (and about her listeners too), by switching to personal pronouns at the end. it sets up a pattern for the rest of the album, where each song is about one thing (the actual story she’s telling) but also about a bunch of other things.

a good example of why she’s the greatest songwriter of this generation

linus “duffy” duffield who works at a newspaper in chicag/o and first meets nanc when she comes through town after dropping out of colum/bia in nyc, during the years she’s writing under the pen name don b. hall. he’s young, too, but a little older than her and been working at this paper for a few years now after interning all through school. his uncle got him the job, and it’s clear he’s got connections. he fields a lot of the letters the paper gets and one of them comes from nanc. she uses her pen name in the letter but offers a number to reach her at. the stuff she included peaks his interest and despite most coworkers being uninterested, he reaches out. 

he’s pretty shocked to hear her voice. isn’t shy to tell her he was definitely not expecting it. she wanted to morph it or something, but didnt have the money to get anything to do it with, so she had to make due. and she had a feeling they weren’t just gonna post it without talking to her. making sure she was serious. 

the pair sparked a friendship, or partnership, or whatever the hell you wanna call it, after a number of phone calls and finally some meetings in person. he pushed hard to get her stuff published without giving away her identity, a pact she’d made him swear to pretty early on, and eventually his higher ups caved. uncle had a big play in that, but the success of her first few articles made it easier and easier to publish anything she threw towards him. they ignited local controversy, got locals sending in letters to comment on what was said, got a few cops riled up about what she had to say about certain injustices in the chicag/o area. 

this went on for a while, even when she was out of state for years, she’d send him articles and he kept getting them through. changed papers a few times, but he still held true to his promise.

in both his professional and personal lives, things were looking up. he was getting noticed for his work with finding the talent of don b. hall, among a few other successful authors at the time. he was working his way up in the ranks, brick by brick, and he did his best to take don b. hall with him. meanwhile, in his personal life, he was thriving. he found a friend group like he’d never really experienced with a few authors and local editors, and he was beginning to understand himself better and what he was looking for. it was around this time he met eugene grady, up and coming cartoonist working at another publication (funny enough, only a few blocks down from duffy’s work). a year later, the pair of them had moved in together.

gene had began his career young, like duffy, and had trouble finding a place in chi/cago’s journalism field. eventually, he landed a job as an assistant to a cartoonist. while he began with an interest specifically in writing, he found himself enamored by the idea of using art as a way to say something. he soon became focused on this field in particular, and used any free time to create politically-conscious pieces of artwork. a few years after getting his start, he got a job with a prominent lgbtq* newspaper and achieved a fair amount of success in this position. he would, years later, publish articles on the side. his art would be remembered long after his death. 

things were smooth sailing for a while. duffy faced backlash at work after people found out about their relationship, but ultimately duffy found a home with other lgbtq* journalists from gene’s work, and the support network enabled them to keep working at it. the setbacks didn’t matter. and, duffy had a promise to uphold, which eugene only encouraged him to keep. this work meant something, he said. duffy, you’re doing something.

things changed when nanc was gearing up to publish her book. duffy was one of the few people who knew her true identity as don b. hall and she trusted his opinion, so of course she floated the idea by him. she talked to him about her plans, at one point even asked him to be her editor. he took a while to accept, knowing the possibilities of the consequences, knowing how it could affect him and gene, but he gave in eventually after both nanc and gene kept bringing it up. gene had become the second person to know of nanc’s true identity, the three of them spending a lot of nights together working on the details of how they’d be able to make this happen.

for a while, after the book came out, it made duffy a bit of a big shot in the investigative journalism world – got him a promotion, some job offers, etc. worked out less alright for nancy, of course. she was met with tremendous backlash in the press, immediately. his would come, but for the first month or so, it was focused mostly on her. after a time, the pair fell out of contact. he tried to help her get involved in the touring, but she stopped answering his calls after a while. took him a few months to realize that she’d gone into hiding. took everyone a while to realize it.

he took on a few interviews in her absence to defend the book. it got to the point where he was just defending her, trying to get people to recognize that she wasn’t crazy. that she had sources, facts to back her up. it started getting tense, the news trying to discredit him as well. ppl claimed duffy had done no work of actual value, painted him as having a really easy ride up until now bc of his father. through all of this, he kept taking interviews. it took the news pulling up eugene to get him to back off, duffy drawing the line at his personal life. the two of them had started receiving death threats. there was an incident which left slurs plastered across their front door. that’s when duffy knew he had to stop. he brought himself out of the public eye, the pair moved to another neighborhood.

two years later, when news of nanc’s death was given to them, they mourned quietly. kept their heads down. they knew that their fates were unfortunately linked. were duffy to keep talking, he would undoubtedly end up in the same position, and as would gene. so he kept his mouth shut. didn’t write a single word about it. ignored questions and letters asking about his connection to her.

when people started finally reporting publicly on the death about a year later, gene began to bring it up to duffy. he tried to convince him that now was the time to speak up and vouch for her. gene was passionate, his arguments reminiscent of when he and nancy first tried to convince duffy to take on the book. it took a while, but eventually duffy agreed, cautiously. he took the hint from others speaking up. he never really put out much of value until years later when he revealed her identity as don b. hall and tried to use those articles to give her back the credibility the news had tried to take from her. it worked to a certain degree, got more people interested in her story.

duffy and gene lived long lives and were able to become successful in their platforms. they became more and more fervent with their activism and outspokenness as time went on and would leave behind legacies of incredibly meaningful, political work. gene himself, a few years after the death of duffy, wrote a memoir which went into careful detail of the treatment they faced during those years. a chapter dedicated to nanc revealed that the pair thought of her as a daughter. they loved her, and gene explained that duffy would never forgive himself for backing down in the press all those years ago.

1 Responding to your post about toptoon- The problem with Toptoon is that (among all the misogynistic things the company did) year and a little more than a half? ago, there was a voice actor who wore a feminist shirt was fired because of it. Many spoke out against the decision and some were fired as well, T's author one of them. After firing the author T put up a notice that they're always after the happiness of readers and they won't stand by anyone trying to deceive their readers etc etc-

2 a notice catering to the male readers, ignoring all the female ones. (The author's agency made the author put up an apology on the blog and reply to each 4000+comments but that's another story) After that+they sold off Bomtoon(BL part of the platform) the platform was largely het 18+content for male audiences but because of all the illegal sites it wasn't doing very well. Then the Lezhin thing burst, and I'm guessing TT saw a chance to bring in many new+recognized BL authors with a following

3. of female readers who were more likely to spend money for the webtoons rather than illegal sites. This, with not a word of apology for the fired author during the two years. So in many ways this was a company that was even worse than Lezhin(at least Lezhin didn't fire anyone for supporting the VA or blatantly ignore their female readers). I think ppl would'v understood if the author who first announced them going to Tt was quiet about it or said it was because it was for their livelihood, but

4 but they built up the suspense till the big grand reveal with all the confetti saying they've been especially picky in choosing their next platform and all. When the response wasn't great, the author said that they've gotten the company's 'promise' to do better, that they thought it was time for the female readers to show their power to spend. If the company could be changed with just the 'promise', why weren't they trying to change Lezhin?(at this point still no apology from TT)

5 Lezhin's top sales works were by female authors/works oriented toward female audiences and look what happened - you won't be able to change a misogynistic company just by throwing money at them. It's like saying let's show Trump our power by giving him a vote. It also affected the stance of authors who were fighting against Lezhin because the author was very vocal in twitter against Lezhin (turns out the author never participated in the protest, Lezhin's meetings, or discussions between other

6 other authors responding to Lezhin issue - it was all just on twitter. Also their work with Lezhin was complete meaning their livelihood wasn't as directly affected as the authors who were still with Lezhin+ put their works on hiatus) but them going with all this fanfare to Toptoon made the impression that all the fighting and commotion was not about the unfair treatment, the author just wanted more money and they'd be fine with whatever platform, even a misogynistic and reader-insulting

7 Things were made worse by another author who, in defending Fujoking, asked the reader who was arguing with them if they were boycotting Lezhin not because what the company did was bad but 'for' the authors? of course the readers were boycotting 'for' the authors, because they cared about the authors. What about the author that was fired? they didn't mention her in their explanations and apologies. Taking the readers' support for granted + going to a platform that insulted the readers angered

8 a lot of the Korean supporters and turned them away - TT's apology uploaded was also lacking in many ways, announcing rehiring of the fired author but not mentioning any means of compensation, responding to the misogynistic ads by saying they should do better... but it's hard, etc. I don't think the author really meant serious harm in going to TT but they did, and because of this fiasco interest for the Lezhin tied up with TT seemed to be dying down. Then Lezhin dropped the

9 lawsuit bomb(the gall of this company, did they think that because the readers were angry with the authors they'll cheer on the company in this situation...??) and things started up again, but the movement's momentum is not what it used to be. To be honest I wasn’t really sure if I should add something, and if yes, what, because the more I hear about these things the more messier they seem, and I’m not sure whether it’s because of the lack of every piece of information or because I can only get information through a specific filter (meaning onesided). I guess due to the lack of language skills most Westerners won’t be able to see the whole picture, and that’s why I’m kind of side-eying the lynch mob forming on English platforms...

And actually I’m starting to think the same about the Korean fandom on twitter. I remembered that t-shirt issue that involved a controversial radical group, and I guess it’s by far not as simple as it is made out by those angry readers. I don’t even understand what they expect from Toptoon, because it’s not like they can do anything but promise that they will try to do better. I’m aware of the deep-rooted misogyny in Korean, but unfortunately there is nothing that can enforce the kind of behavior the readers want, it’s only possible to punish the company in case something happens again by going to court - like the fired artist should have done, actually. All in all I still think fans are going overboard with their reactions to the artists, who, if anything, seem to be naive and ignorant and not ill-willed.

I’m also starting to think these protesting readers confuse big ideas and business. Because at the end of the day the Lezhin issue _is_ about money. Unfair treatment = less money, late fee, suffering artists, fair treatment = more money, artists making a living, happily producing content. Everything else is just pretty words. I also think it’s natural that the twitter movementis dying down (and with the Olympics it might be forgotten completely), and let’s face it, that cannot solve the situation anyway. He discovered his psychic powers when he was like 6, they were rly weak, he could only lift very small objects for a few seconds, but he instantly got super excited about these powers and started think how he wanted to use them 

Being a 6 year old boy he thought he OBVIOUSLY had to challenge every psychic pokemon to become the greatest psychic pokemon of all time even though he isn't a pkmn at all This thought stuck with him even after he grew up    

Somehow he still wants to become the best psychic pkmn at the age of let's say 19 Maybe he should be older? Idk For now he's 19

After his 10th birthday he leaves home just like every other child in the pkmn universe He doesn't choose a pkmn tho bc he's a pkmn.  Also he'd rather have a psychic type or nothing at all So he just runs straight into the tall grass and starts his adventure

This boy gets in a lot of trouble because he's without a pokemon so has no way of making money or protect himself from wild pokemon

So he arrives at the first town already half dead But he doesn't give up! He start training not only his mind but also his body. He starts living in the wild, learning how to hunt for food etc Or at least he tries, he's not very good at it. He's often helped by trainers and/or pokemon who find him half dead in the middle of the forest or the city.

So after a while he thinks that yes, he can't do this all alone.

He needs to find a trainer who can guide and help him get better with his powers.

Also i like to think that he likes telling every person he meets that he's going to become the best psychic pkmn in the world and ppl always laugh at him, but not in a bad way bc "it's an impossible dream but this kid believes in it so hard that I'm rooting for him".  But then he grows up and people just look at him weird when he says that stuff He doesn't care about people's opinions tho

So when he's like 17-18 alakazam sends him and abra away bc they're now ready to travel across the region and defeat strong opponents

He buys those new clothes in a weird shop, he thinks they look cool even tho people look at him weird

And he just goes around psychic punching pokemon and getting psychic punched by them

I still don’t know much about the villain. For now I know that she’s a scientist who holds a grudge against the protag. 

In fact, back when the protag lived with alakazam, the woman’s father wanted to force the pokemon to work with him and use its psychic powers for his experiments. 

The protag, who was just a kid at the time, tried to defend his master and unleashed his powers to the max, which led to the villain’s dad and the assistants that had accompanied to be completely fucked up. So now the dad is in a wheelchair and can barely move himself. The protag doesn’t even remember this happening.

So for now the woman wants revenge for her dad and also wants to find a way to make him regain some mobility.

I’m still debating on whether at some point she admits that the protag is a totally good guy (bc she already knows deep down) and really did nothing wrong. He was just trying to protect a pokemon dear to him and her father was the one at fault. But she still hates him because he makes no sense at all and boy, he’s dumb as fuck.

Akela: gosh, he really does not have a lot of canon to go off of at all, in either movie. i’m gonna say the Law of the Jungle. That’s really important to his development in my head. also the scene in the live-action with grey where he tells him that the runts get eaten sometimes bc it’s like the only time he’s not the Serious Alpha but to me it just showed this like softer side to him? that was playful--and i based a lot of his character on that.

Belle: laksdjflkajdf what don’t i love about belle? i mean as a character as a whole i love how inspiring she was to all young girls who loved to read and encouraging girls to be SMART and not be SHY about it. to EMBRACE their bRAINS which is such an important lesson for young girls. and i really love that about my belle too. that she is very demure about a lot of things but DO NOT QUESTION HER INTELLIGENCE. it is the one thing she will unflinchingly defend about herself and i don’t think we see that enough in female characters.

Simba: i love how much simba loves himself. i make fun of it quite a bit, bc he can be so over the top with it, but i really appreciate his level of self-care because that’s something i struggle with. like--not so much confidence, i have a decent amount of that but just, he really does take care of his overall physical health. he exercises, he showers, he eats properly (tho i mean he eats a lot too and lets himself indulge which is important). but he like idk keeps his beard trimmed and takes care of his skin and this sounds like a really weird thing to admire but since i struggle w depression, it’s nice to see ppl who function normally even tho he also struggles w depression. ALSO i love his flirting. haha. inspires me to be a better flirt.

Toulouse: kind of self care too, in a way? i love that lou is unapologetic about who he is, even when he doesn’t like himself. and he really does take care of himself before anyone else. like he does not let other’s opinions (except his siblings) influence his decisions and that’s something i struggle with. it actually makes lou one of my most genuine characters, because if he is sweet to you, if he helps you, if he protects you, he’s doing it because he wants to, not out of any obligation. as someone who struggles to say “no” to people, it’s admirable.

Bambi: ahaha honestly there isn’t much i admire about bambi. not because he’s a bad person but because he’s a teen who is still finding himself and struggling with a lot of self loathing and is in that place in his life where he is making mistakes. but, i do like that, writing him, im getting a--chance to look back and rexamine teenhood from a new perspective which is interesting and fun.

Perdita: i love how FIERCE she is. i always say perdita’s attitude is mine if i didn’t care about what people thought of me and that’s definitely true. i love that the first impression that paul got from her was she didn’t care what anyone thinks BUT i love that she really actually does too bc it just adds so much dynamic.

Sweet: gosh i love how level-headed he is. as someone who is temperamental i really appreciate characters like sweet and poca and haku who are very centered and strong and sturdy. i appreciate their calm presence in my head. i also LVOE how poetic writing him is. he’s one of my characters i feel like i can indulge lyrically in my words with the most.

Maui: i love how conflicted maui is. i love that he has this really stark duality to him and is much more than his cocky exterior and he genuinely really does care about people, not just about the attention, though that is a big draw. i also love what a BOY he is. it’s really fun to play him walking that line of fuckboi and genuine person.

Hercules: what a PRECIOUS MUFFIN HE IS. i just love the whole super strength but has no way to control it thing. it’s just a great duality to play with. like he is so gentle and so afraid of hurting people but has this awesome power. he’s just very precious to me just so sweet and good and pure. 

Attina: my self indulgent bae ahaha. i love that she’s a MERMAID i love that she’s so bubbly. i don’t have any BUBBLY characters. and she’s so happy and smiley. i mean, simba is kinda like that both of them just Radiate Joy. and i also love playing sisters. i love love the family dynamic and the fact that there is so many of them, because it just leads to such RICH character development. i love what a romantic she is. i love how soft and kind but how protective. how scared but how brave. ugh my beeb

Akela: he’s another really calm person. i love that akela doesn’t linger on his mistakes. he has regrets. he acknowledges when he’s done something wrong and then--wait for it--HE MOVES ON. he doesn’t dwell. he doesn’t beat himself up. he picks himself up and dust himself off and moves on. which is so refreshing bc most of my characters are wallowers ahhaa

Belle: GIRL I S2G GET SOME FUCKIN SELF CONFIDENCE it just really annoys me that she needs to be poked and prodded into feeling good about herself bc she’s so BRAVE AND STRONG AND KIND AND WONDERFUL she’s perfect and she SHOULD KNOW THAT SHE IS WORTH GOOD THINGS

Toulouse: i s2g i have so many things that i could say to toulouse but if i could ever interact w some real form of him u know what i would do? i would give him a goddamn hug. just a good, long hug where he can put his lil head on my shoulder and just relax. he craves physical affection ppl

Bambi: i would give him support about his choices and tell him it’s okay to be afraid but he should be brave too bc being brave is the best fuck u to all the people who want to scare you.

Belle: well her voice comes so easily to me i love it except it’s SO thinky. she is always who i write the longest posts on bc she just examines everything but i love it bc i so do not think like that but it opens my mind to interesting thought processes i haven’t explored myself before. though i also edit her the most bc her dialogue is SO HARD. it’s getting better tho as she gets more confident but it only takes one set back to go back to stuttering and holding her tongue.

Simba: gosh. i love his voice. it’s so COLORFUL. i can write simba all day because even in his darkest moments he is so BRIGHT and he feels everything so deeply. i love his background. i love writing about africa and islam and how he is bisexual and his race (but in the little things like how he has sensitive skin and likes movies like Hairspray lol). he’s really so different from me in so many ways, but he’s also an accumulation of like all the men in my life i’ve admired so he has a v special place in my heart.

Toulouse: gosh i love toulouse. idk his voice comes SO naturally to me. he is, without a doubt, the character i just instinctually know the best. i can’t even explain it but he just popped into my head completely formed. i knew everything about him almost immediately and even the things that came later just fell into place so easily. i just love him because he is so complicated and dynamic and feels so deeply while also having a really complicated relationship with those emotions. writing him is both frustrating bc he always makes the same mistakes, but very easy for me.

Bambi: ugh i love bam. he’s another one that i just loved from the start. i wanted him for so so long before i actually got him and he just mad sense to me. i love his shyness. i like writing his view of the world since he def has so much influence from books and movies and he thinks in like tropes a lot and i’ve never written like that before and it’s super fun.

Perdita: i love how concise she is. i love all the sharp language i get to use with her. how every sentence i feel like i hit the period mark really fiercely. every sentence is important and to the point. she doesn’t like meander and as someone with flowy writing it’s nice to be able to know that i can do shorter stuff.

Sweet: UGH i love the poetry to his voice. making him a poet was a great move on my part bc i just looooove it. i love his voice. how calm. how gentle. how wise. and beautiful tbh. also all his experience is really fun to write. he’s like a fully formed person.

 Maui: i think i mentioned this but what a BOY he is. i love it. i love being able to play with the line between saying shitty sexist things but not knowing they’re shitty and sexist and really being a (mostly) genuine person but not always kosher or PC or anything like that.

Hercules: im still getting used to his voice but i really like how much he curses lmao he is like FUCK FUCK FUCK in his head at all times and i love that bc he’s so soft and smol and it’s such a funny contrast. also i get to play with humor and irony a lot with him and that’s fun. hopefully i can do more allusions to mythology once i start working with his powers more and that’ll be fun

Attina: i love her OCD. i think it makes for really interesting writing because people with OCD repeat phrases and stuff a lot and always having to be hyperaware of her actions like--remembering she doesn’t like to touch people and remembering that she locks the door nine times and that she doesn’t eat food from public places. it just really plants me in her head every time i write her.

Akela: his connection to nature. tbh being able to play as a wolf im ngl. but also a LEADER that people RESPECT AND LISTen TO. also i love how his voice is sad but not depressingly so. so it makes it really interesting to write like balancing all that emotional with his cool, level-headness.

i’ve been free of the sh*rlock fandom for many blissful years now and i try not to like, write things on this useless blog of mine but i’ve seen more reactionary anger to the season four finale than i was expecting so i feel compelled to Share My Thoughts regardless of whether or not anyone wants to hear them. full disclosure: i am not a fan of j*hnlock or the conspiracy movement it has inspired so you may not want to read this if you are. 

i guess the major thing for me is.........confusion. shipping holmes/watson i wholeheartedly understand, of course, there’s a long and beautiful history of doing it and i’ve always adored the ambiguous queerness of the Canon’s holmes and how that’s been adapted or not adapted in the thousands of films/tv shows/pastiches/etc that have followed it. what i dont?? fucking understand??? is the people who genuinely thought it would become canon, on bbc sh*rlock (2010) OF ALL FUCKING THINGS????

i’m pretty damn far from being a “casual” viewer of the show, it was my primary fandom for several years and i was once-upon-a-midnight-fuckin-dreary completely consumed by my love for it. so as someone for whom that is true but who, unlike most fandom people for whom it is true, has not been sucked into the J*hnlock Meta Echo Chamber, i feel pretty confident in my assertion that there has been really very little in the series itself to suggest a romantic john/sh*rlock endgame. sure, their relationship is at the center of the show and they ofc have been shown to care for each other deeply and enduringly, as holmeses and watsons always do....and, sure, there are without question lines and moments that could be read as revealing a romantic undercurrent to their devotion to each other (particularly on sh*rlock’s end, i think). but that there was a legitimate conspiracy movement convinced beyond all shadow of a doubt that they were going to explicitly get bbc’s sh*rlock and john making out onscreen...i just do not get it, and do not see it, and yes i’ve read the metas, and no they did not convince me and i’m not entirely sure how they convinced anyone but whatever, it’s fine, that’s not the point.

like, for example, i keep seeing people shocked that after the ~EXPLICIT TEXTUAL GAYNESS~ of the lying detective they couldn’t believe the final problem would follow. and i’m just like??? huh? you mean, the hug? the one that happened in the context of a) john mourning his dead wife who he clearly loved very genuinely and b) john hearing sh*rlock receive a text from irene adler and urging him, quite explicitly, to go fuck her and telling him he’d be an idiot not to?? that explicit textual gayness?? WHAT? (i know the Conspiracy People have composed all these half-assed metas about how irene isn’t Really A Character and is just a mirror for sh*rlock or a symbol of his desire to bone john or something, but, lol no offense but fuck that misogynistic bullshit that treats every woman on the show as a literal empty signifier only sitting there to reflect something about sh*rlock and/or john. it’s just not a good reading or a valid interpretation and it’s so sexist i don’t even know where to start lmao. john genuinely wants sh*rlock to find the love of A Good Woman bc he is a hetero and well, the worst, and there was nothing about that scene that felt like a lead-up to the two men in it falling in love like ohhh my god. oh my god.)

and like ok, i got off course there, but how did ANYONE expect a different outcome after this interview, in which gatiss and moffat both told you all in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS that they had no romance planned and in fact seemed incredibly miffed by the refusal to be believed when they said that?? gatiss literally says that there is no conspiracy and that even tho they lie about some things in interviews they are not lying about this. and look, i don’t want to defend them, i think the writers of this show are assholes and bigoted in ways they can’t see, but how anyone could accuse them of “baiting them into thinking j*hnlock would be endgame” when they’ve been saying it won’t be the case (often in unnecessarily rude and offensive terms) for literal YEARS??? i don’t get it. I REALLY DON’T. and no, gatiss doesn’t Owe you a holmes/watson relationship just because he’s a gay man himself lmao and when he’s expressed his feelings on the matter countless, countless times. you all chose not to believe him, for whatever reason, so i mean i’m sorry if some of you are hurting but i’m also feeling very congratulationsyouplayedyourself.jpeg about the whole thing.

which brings me to my last major point really, which is: WHY WOULD YOU WANT THESE HORRIBLE PEOPLE TO BE THE ONES TO DELIVER YOU YOUR QUEER REPRESENTATION?? moffat in particular is just, UGH, i mean, for fuck’s sake, the man wrote an adaptation of a scandal in bohemia where irene identified herself as a lesbian and yet, in the very same episode, fell in love with sh*rlock to such an all-consuming degree that she Lost Her Head and made a silly mistake in their game and got humiliated in defeat. like, what kind of lesbophobic, misogynistic fucking NONSENSE that btw completely deviates from the plot of the actual story in which she beats holmes’ ass and flees away into the night, victorious and safe. that’s the writer you thought was orchestrating a queer endgame for his beloved sh*rlock holmes???? that’s the writer you wanted orchestrating a queer endgame for his beloved sh*rlock holmes?? l o l....ok. that’s not even taking into account all the nasty things he’s said in interviews, like how sh*rlock is ofc not interested in men and ofc he’s not asexual bc asexual people are BORING, sh*rlock is just a latent straight man repressing his urge to bone women!! maybe he’ll marry mrs. hudson in the end tho!! lmao. i....cannot.

and i guess i’m also irritated by this guilting wave on my dash, like i’m obligated to feel sympathy for all these shippers who get duped, or whatever. like, look, even putting my personal feelings about the j*hnlock fandom aside (YOUR SMUG ASSES MADE THE FANDOM LIVES OF ALL RAREPAIR SHIPPERS HELL FOR YEARS, YOU ASSHOLES), after going through what, say, the 100 did to lexa, i’m just.....having a hard time feeling sympathy, i am sorry. oh, your two favorite characters get to live happily together raising a baby in 221b in a scenario that leaves them ripe and open for no end of headcanon and fic that can be totally canon-compliant? boooooo frickin hoooo. HEARTBREAKING. 

i realize this probably is like, rude and condescending and invalidating or whatever and well what can i tell u, i’m a rude bitch, but i am tiiiired of reading all these posts like this is the biggest slight against the lgbtqa+ community in media history. it’s not. yeah, you should all be expecting better from your media, for sure. but you should not have been expecting better from this shitpile of a show, which has proven its disregard for women, racial/ethnic minorities, and queer ppl for seasons upon seasons now. it’s 2017, and the tv landscape still isn’t great but there are so many shows out there with actual canonical lgbtqa+ characters that you can be looking to for the representation you want, deserve, etc. 

sh*rlock isn’t the queer love story you all wanted it to be, and if i’m not empathetic abt that it’s bc i’m SO DAMN RELIEVED that’s the case, bc it and most of the people involved in its production are hmm, what’s the word.....THE. DAMN. WORST.

The Reflection, Episodes 4 and 5

Episode 4

Using their powers for too long can apparently drain the Refleted stanima’s, so Lisa falls asleep halfway trough carrying Eleanor and X-On

X-On’s sole characterization so far is “Done with Everything”

They’re going to New Orleans and Lisa wakes up as soon as she hears the phrase and yells “JAZZ!” because why not..still best character

I-Guy is annoyed that his presence might be detterring criminals from crime bc there’s no point if he can’t fight, i bey someone’s gonna have to learn a Very Valuable Lesson about heroism

Ian’s having some sort of identity crisis about how ppl pay attention to his superhero person and not the real him, boring

more interesting “a team of magical girls straight out of an anime have appeared in Japan” TELL ME MORE

Also interesting: someone called Merchant and Trader is going around taking the Reflected (ppl with powers). Eleanor defends a bullied boy and gets confronted by the cops, who appear to just arrest or shoot Reflected on sight. But then Merchant and Trader- a blind dude and his weird metal creature- appear and take Eleanor instead.

X-On, as usual, acts like he doesn’t give a shit about anything even after learning what happened to Eleanor, which causes Lisa to punch him in the shoulder, yelling “HOW DARE YOU AREN’T YOU WORRIED ABOUT HER I’M GONNA GO LOOK FOR ELEANOR” before wheeling off tossing “AND YOU SHUT THAT DOOR FOR ME” as an aside she is the best.

Episode 5

Dude isn’t kidnapping the reflected to do anything bad to them, he’s offering him a place of shelter away from the world that hates and fears them. due to the limited animation it looks like this is just a big room with nothing in it, but it’s the thought that counts is guess.

Lisa is ON THE HUNT for not only Eleanor, but jazz and finally finds some. But then a bar fight breaks out and the little boy Eleanor saved jumps in to shield her and wheel her out, PAYING IT FORWARD. 

blind dude, Micheal, lost his sight due to the incident that gave everyone powers, and now he can only see someone if they’re reflected (have powers). The metal creature in actually his wife, Vy. Because she was mad at him for gambling away their money and was filled with negativity (I’m guessing), her powers manifested violently and she’s now locked inside the metal creature and not very responsive but still acts protective of Micheal, if not somewhat violent.

Eleanor is all like “but u should fight instead of hide!” and Micheal’s like “nah”. Meanwhile the boy and Lisa are kidnapped by local Reflection haters who manage to yank her out of her wheelchair. She thinks it’s total bullshit this is happening and i agree. Fortunately, the kidnappers leave after the boy tells them where Merchant and Trader are hiding and X-On comes and reunites Lisa with her wheelchair/robot.

The cops come to fight Vy and Micheal bc...I guess they’re working with the villains now? Vy is about to rampage all over them, but Micheal is a pacifist i guess so thinks she shouldn’t. Instead he makes this big speech about how the one she should be angry at is him only and he hugs her and she turns back into herself yaaaay. Then the cops try to shoot them, but Vy is able to summon her armor at will now and protects him, Eleanor also teleports around and beats up the cops, it’s cool. 

The villains then attack but LISA COMES AND SHOOTS MISSILES AT THEM IT’S GREAT. Micheal decides Eleanor’s right and they should stop hiding, so Eleanor goes to get the others BUT THEY’RE GONE. WHO TOOK THEM?

Wow, some parts of it are a little on-the-nose, but I’m really enoying this a lot more than I thought I would. The story’s decent, the set-up and use of superhero tropes is interesting, there are a lot of female characters who are doing cool stuff and who I want to learn more about. I thought initially X-On was gonna be the main character, but so far Eleanor seems like the main character more than anyone else, she’s inspiring others and spreading ideals and following a clear character arc and seems the most involved in the plot. X-On’s just kinda there, it’s been 5 eps and I know literally nothing about him. There’s also a lot of decent disabled representation and some racial diversity- not an amazing amount, but it doesn’t go the route of repping America as only white ppl at least. 

Anyway, I’m really interested in seeing where this goes. I’ve seen a lot of complaints that it’s hard to understand or slow or muddled, but that’s only the first episode, which was immediately given context in the next one- the other episodes have been pretty solid. 

I’ll watch one more ep to take me halfway thur the series then take a break.
