A whole bunch of new releases this week including the long anticipated graphic novel adaptation of Octavia Butler's "Parable of the Sower". What books will you be adding to your TBR list?

The follow-up to Kindred, the #1 bestseller, comes Octavia E. Butler’s groundbreaking dystopian novel

Lauren Olamina, a preacher’s daughter living in Los Angeles, is protected from danger by the walls of her gated community. Almost American Girl by Robin Ha Balzer + Bray
A powerful and timely teen graphic novel memoir—perfect for fans of American Born Chinese and Hey, Kiddo—about a Korean-born, non-English-speaking girl who is abruptly transplanted from Seoul to Huntsville, Alabama, and struggles with extreme culture shock and isolation, until she discovers her passion for comic arts.
For as long as she can remember, it’s been Robin and her mom against the world. Growing up in the 1990s as the only child of a single mother in Seoul, Korea, wasn’t always easy, but it has bonded them fiercely together.
So when a vacation to visit friends in Huntsville, Alabama, unexpectedly becomes a permanent relocation—following her mother’s announcement that she’s getting married—Robin is devastated. Overnight, her life changes. She is dropped into a new school where she doesn’t understand the language and struggles to keep up. She is completely cut off from her friends at home and has no access to her beloved comics. At home, she doesn’t fit in with her new stepfamily. And worst of all, she is furious with the one person she is closest to—her mother.
Then one day Robin’s mother enrolls her in a local comic drawing class, which opens the window to a future Robin could never have imagined. — Cover image and summary via Goodreads

With the help of Shiro—the shrine’s gorgeous half-fox, half-boy kitsune—Kira discovers that her shrine harbors an ancient artifact of great power . . . one the yokai and their demon lord, Shuten-doji, will use to bring down an everlasting darkness upon the world.
Unable to face the Shuten-doji and his minions on her own, Kira enlists the aid of seven ruthless shinigami—or death gods—to help stop the brutal destruction of humankind. But some of the death gods aren’t everything they initially seemed, nor as loyal to Kira’s cause as they first appeared.
With war drawing nearer by the day, Kira realizes that if this unlikely band of heroes is going to survive, they’re going to have to learn to work together, confront their demons, and rise as one to face an army of unimaginable evil. — Cover image and summary via Goodreads

Don’t Read the Comments by Eric Smith Inkyard Press
Divya Sharma is a queen. Or she is when she’s playing Reclaim the Sun, the year’s hottest online game. Divya—better known as popular streaming gamer D1V—regularly leads her #AngstArmada on quests through the game’s vast and gorgeous virtual universe. But for Divya, this is more than just a game. Out in the real world, she’s trading her rising-star status for sponsorships to help her struggling single mom pay the rent.
Gaming is basically Aaron Jericho’s entire life. Much to his mother’s frustration, Aaron has zero interest in becoming a doctor like her, and spends his free time writing games for a local developer. At least he can escape into Reclaim the Sun—and with a trillion worlds to explore, disappearing should be easy. But to his surprise, he somehow ends up on the same remote planet as celebrity gamer D1V.
At home, Divya and Aaron grapple with their problems alone, but in the game, they have each other to face infinite new worlds…and the growing legion of trolls populating them. Soon the virtual harassment seeps into reality when a group called the Vox Populi begin launching real-world doxxing campaigns, threatening Aaron’s dreams and Divya’s actual life. The online trolls think they can drive her out of the game, but everything and everyone Divya cares about is on the line…

No Driver’s License: Session 33
No Driver’s License is a Madoka Magica game I’m running for five players, using a homebrew of Yaruki Zero’s Magical Burst system. It follows five magical girls as they deal with an upheaval in the world’s magic system caused by some strange new three-eyed Incubators. They have to figure out what’s going on, who to trust, and how to put a stop to the cycle of despair.
I post session logs and omakes weekly sporadically, both as a reference for the players and for anyone who wants to follow along with the party’s misadventures.
[adventure log- read from the beginning]
[session 32]
Last time on No Driver’s License, the boss fight on the moon turned into a different boss fight on the moon when one of the party members witched out. The team managed to escape some giant teacups, but then encountered the original boss fight on the way to fight the new boss fight. Pincered between the party and the witch, the boss got her ass kicked pretty hard, saved at the last second by a mysterious intercessor. Let’s find out how that resolves!
Tumblr media
So- this mystery white mask girl has blocked Ibara’s decisive blow against Kimiko/Honoka, with a big glittering white shield. And she has also... pulled a Sans Undertale, and enforced the concept of turn-based combat. It’s currently her turn, and she’s not taking it. She would like everyone... to stop. Stop fighting.
Tumblr media
It quickly becomes clear that this girl does not actually have a plan for conflict resolution. She just begs everyone to stop fighting, to stop trying to hurt each other, and... none of this changes the facts that drive the two groups into conflict.
Tumblr media
Honoka even insists that she doesn’t need this person’s protection- apparently, she’s just as much a stranger to the cannibals as to the party.
Tumblr media
The masked girl, whoever she is, is eventually convinced that what she’s doing is useless, that no one will listen to reason (is it reason?), and pings a Trauma.
Tumblr media
The masked girl- who claims to be nobody, so let’s call her Nobody- uses one of her actions to use some sort of healing skill. It heals both sides of the fight- restoring Seina and Makoto to full, as well as refilling a substantial portion of Honoka’s HP. She tells them she can magically hold her turn for another fifteen minutes, so...
Tumblr media
Honoka insists that she could’ve taken the hit, that she’s way stronger than these losers, that no one could possibly stop her, god damn it.
Tumblr media
Responses to this question: very ironically divergent.
Tumblr media
and:
Tumblr media
So... Yukari asks Emiko some questions. Specifically: why hasn’t Kimiko burned off Honoka’s trauma track yet?
Tumblr media
You can... imagine where Yukari is going with this, right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yukari asks Emiko a few more leading questions, getting at what her strategy is. Emiko- though hesitant at first- eventually agrees that what they’re about to do is necessary.
Tumblr media
Makoto delivers this line, and...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nobody, meanwhile, is confused by this whole line of conversation- it seems she’s never heard of any Honoka before, and doesn’t know what’s going on. As her power runs out, she quickly uses her last action.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So- yep, Honoka’s witched. Thing is, since they’re already in a barrier, that doesn’t change their immediate surroundings much.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aaaaaaanyway... session doesn’t end here, because there’s still a little something to deal with. See- the common enemy has vanished, and now the party is faced with... the Queen of Sorrows, still.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And it’s her turn! And she crits!
Tumblr media
So- the decapitation thing is cosmetic, but Nobody clearly isn’t having a very good time with it.
Tumblr media
Then the witch uses another one of her moves- she takes the zone she’s in, swirls her big space dress, and- whoosh- everyone in that zone is now in the sky. (Normally, magical girls don’t take fall damage, but this attack accelerates them downward at great speed.) And- now, see, they were previously inside the spout of the giant teapot, which was shaded from the sun outside. When teleported into the sky above, though, they’re exposed to the sun- and take damage from its intense rays.
So- Makoto still doesn’t have access to her animal-summoning power, but she points out that those shadow puppet hands are still around, and now there’s a very bright sun to cast harsh shadows.
Tumblr media
She orders the shadow puppets to attack the Queen, but...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With her roll, this argument ends up working, and they do some damage to the Queen.
Tumblr media
Buncha god damn truants and also Makoto, over here.
After Makoto’s minions go, Seina, Ibara, and Yukari all unload pretty standard ranged attacks on the Queen. Makoto herself takes her action and does some healing and camouflage to protect the squishier girls on the field. Emiko... uses her big combo punch attack, but since there’s only one enemy, she needs to use some of Makoto’s shadow puppets as, essentially, bounce pads for her combo, which results in some friendly fire damage in exchange for a big hit.
...Oh, and apparently I forgot that Seina already took her turn, and I let her make another melee attack, which was a crit and made petals explode out of the Queen. So, whoops, but pretty cool.
Anyway, witch turn, let’s look at the map:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She crits, and- while Seina and Ibara don’t take damage, because they had that breaky heart armor to absorb the hit, the secondary effect of critting with the axe takes effect.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After that... well, the Queen still has actions. She takes a step forward and uses “Here’s What Happens”, where the narrator takes control of a target’s actions if they fail a Heart contest. Yukari does not have very high Heart, and fails the Heart contest.
Tumblr media
Yukari- shockingly- actually gets a hit on her Fury roll, which doesn’t happen often. And...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So... that was kind of an anticlimax. Nobody spends her turn snatching back her head. And now Ibara goes, and... well, she’s gonna do her usual lineup of Big Fucking Hits, holding back a couple boosts just in case.
Tumblr media
So- Seina’s turn, and she lands a big solid hit. Or... would’ve. The witch is at low health, allowing her to use an emergency ability.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway... on the players’ turn, Emiko hears a crashing sound from outside. That teacup that was on fire? The structural integrity thereof has finally lost the fight against the blaze.
Tumblr media
A few more dodged hits later, after Emiko summons her giant mecha and gives chase, the witch gets to move some more.
Tumblr media
Still, the Queen is on the ropes- so she’s got to make her last hits count. She gets as many of them together in one place as she can, and...
Tumblr media
Most of them make their save, though- it’s only Makoto who finds herself burning through the sky, three hundred degrees, that’s why they call her Mrs. Fahrenheit.
Seina finally lands a finishing blow, and...
Tumblr media
Now... there’s a minor issue, which Yukari anticipated: when the witch whose barrier included the shelter from the sun you were using... dies? You no longer have shelter from the sun. So, uh, this is immediately kind of a problem.
Also, Fumi-chan, the only Incubator on the scene, is being coy and balking at reviving Sakura.
Tumblr media
Thankfully, they have seeds that instantly grow stone mansions from nothing, so they’re able to get out of the sun pretty quick. Sakura is revived- and just in time, because whoops Yukari keeps forgetting to not use her undodgeable unblockable delayed-action prophecy bullets on witches that are about to die.
Tumblr media
It’s fine, it’s two damage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So! Next time, on No Driver’s License: out of the frying pan, and into the much hotter frying pan. One last witch fight!

"I can't take criticism so I send out my minions from 4chan out to get you" blocklist
I’ll be honest, I do not get what are these peoples deal but they seem to always get on the bad side of everyone and they can get to this very contrarian personality from 4chan /v/ so I’ll just take that a hint to making a list of them, they aren’t fascists by any means, crypto-fascists at the least, but they often gobble up the worst of people from this website and have probably been co-opted by fascists multiple time because of their apatheticness and coyness, the whole “I’m not a SJW! I don’t like protesters, fighting for something is dumb!” kind, shit they aren’t even probably right-wingers so this is a very special blocklist because I keep seeing them on tumblr whenever something bad happens, in fact i see so many fascists on this site only follow these people, so it’s probably better to block them to cut off their social rings immediately.
--The list that has probably already been made once--
moontouched-moogle - Not much interesting to talk about here they’re just this hive mind for /v/ people. They kind of helped me build this list a bit.
thefeelofavideogame - This guy never catches a break of not minding their own business and can’t help but feel cynical about anything but just ‘vidya’
nentindo - This one deserves a special mention because they’re 15 years old so it’s better to just block them and ignore them in advance rather then let them act elitist, i mean jeez kid you’re 15 you BARELY experienced life yet. Like really this amount of them surrounding themselves by adults that don’t wish them the best is an unhealthy obsession for them at it is.
inkerton-kun - Dontcha hate when a porn artist has to have a ‘personality’
steven-universe-official - Kind of like the grand papi of this gang, I don’t even need to tell people to block them because I think about everyone does already due them sending their weird combination of anti-feminist fans around sending hate to anyone that would do criticism against their shitty attitude, technically in the recent years they kind of toned down on going around spewing bullshit and being THE uncle tom but it’s good to double check
dream-cassette - Oh this one I’ve heard of the most! Used to make child porn by the name of hoshime, in the name of rule 34, along the lines she deleted her original blog because she believed the obviously fake “down with cis” situation was the biggest EXAMPLE OF BIGOTRY in the world and the not absurd at all rival towards inequality (ignoring how it works systematically) and ever since then she’s been hanging out with the anti-sjws.
thathomestar - I think they used to be a 100% gamergater but then again almost everyone here on this list was at one point. They still have that suspicious aura of “all the misery in the world is the left-wing’s fault for fighting back against their human rights being removed rather than just submitting!”. Says everything that is politically incorrect is just a joke, might be just a weird case of /pol/’s law (haha, get it?)
mr-cappadocia - Also an infamous gamergater, they sorta hold a grudge so much against social justice they end up sounding like they’re high on sherm. You know those try-hards that sound REALLY hard to sound politically incorrect? Yep! They sound like that. I also recommend blocking leopirate too as they are also a hotspot for gamergaters. Both are pretty terrible Islamophobic people.
takashi0 - The OG Anti-SJW Brony of Tumblr! What a title.
shitpost-senpai - I don’t even know why this guy’s on this list they’re just a 100% obvious fascist to the point they won’t stop being antisemitic about everything but hey, I guess because they like anime and metal gear rising that’s enough for them to fit in this blocklist... They’re also constantly being reblogging by this social ring of people and could just be the reason why a sum of people don’t trust them.
maoh - They hate it when people fight back against oppression in general, the old cuck-like mentality of “No, don’t do anything, don’t fight back and die and it will be a win!” without knowing that peaceful protest holds no consequence and allows fascists to do anything they want to do at any time while removing human rights. They’re very petty about god damn children rather than just let them be too. What kind of an adult is this? Kind of funny that they changed their description recently from “I dislike the left-wing of tumblr” to “zero tolerance for faux morality and art censorship”, dude got some brand new codewords to pass off “I hate criticism” and “I’m a nazi sympathizer cuck and I’ve been brainwashed by the enemy to say that violent dynamics, no matter how history shows the story otherwise, is ineffective in justice and is villainous, anyways let me just frantically love an anime where they beat someone up”. It’s basic praxis and how the world works!
shameshack - Ey! the-cringe-channel, known for producing their own cringe content because for some odd reason they keep ignoring the academic values of things and brush ofF everything in the world as mindless paranoia but probably aren’t a very smart person themselves and would rather waste their life making fun of kids and fueling the quickly made anti-sjw blogs on this website that all have urls like “tumblr-is-dumb-because-i-hate-minorities”, out of everyone who acts coy about why people dislike them, this one acts the most coy out of them all, what a malicious kind of guy. I really don’t know if they legit don’t get how things work in the real world because they take silly things seriously and serious things as if they were silly. Have you ever tried living life once where you have to don’t have to keep insecurely looking down on others that are just harmless oddities to fuel your ego or what?
--End Of List--
Just copy and paste each url onto your blocklist if you wanna.
Again I repeat these guys aren’t “fascists” and will deny they’re “anti-sjw” (Even though they don’t do anything to show for it besides say “Oh don’t worry we make fun of anti-sjws too! But we sound exactly like them when we go against our vague idea of social justice”), but fascists and crypto-fascists always seem to be around these people because they act coy about it all the time for the sake of being contrarians. They don’t want to care about them being followed by neo-nazis, just the power of having many followers that come straight from 4chan’s /v/! Almost the same as sympathizers.
It’s the same odd link towards people who take video games and substancless anime too seriously and... Neo-Nazis, seriously what’s up with that? Anyways be careful when you criticize anime or them and don’t have them checked!
Special mentions: KanColle fans I guess? Moe anime attracts a lot, and I guess that’s what happens when a medium genre is 100% bottom feeders towards substanceless girls just being cute, blogs with gray backgrounds, the nihilists that blog about trump jokes “ironically” (poe’s law), youtube celebrities, it’s more about ethics in games journalism and not objective game design. It’s not like they can’t be analytical ABOUT EVERYTHING right. Like how video game game design isn’t the only analytical theory in the world to take into consideration when criticizing media. Why is it always the gamers?
Won’t say it again! Act coy about it all you want but take the loss because you guys have negative connotations and never really worked on it.
This isn’t a “Reach” like a lot of you guys keep blaming it to be one or just belittle it as just “discourse” (the most thrown around word ever), the fact is just that you simply won’t accept the weight of your actions by either doing bullshit yourselves or allowing fascists to co-op your communities because you guys aren’t actively critical at all despite your contrarian image.
Anyways this blog’s been moving slow (Which is good! Unless they've just been more secretive) to the point I gotta make a list out of these infamous dudes that i’m pretty sure everyone on tumblr already blocks or at least is suspicious about the people who reblog from them so i’m gonna go jack off to hentai rather than cowardly reblog ecchi to my blog to remind people I do indeed jack off to anime have no mistake about it.
