The Tears I Shed for You - A 7 Month-Long Labor of Love
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know I haven't posted any of my recent works on here for a long time, but I think I'm happy with just using this platform as a way to just dump my thoughts.
After 235 renders and ~7 months of chipping away at this thing, I've finally wrapped up work on my digital novel centered around Makoto and Mitsuru's romance path from P3R: "The Tears I Shed for You"
I'm kind of shocked that I was able to get this done without giving up or burning myself out throughout the process, considering that I didn't make a dime out of it. I didn't do this for money, or to get my foot in the door at getting some kind of gig as an artist. More than anything, I just wanted to make something that I could look back on one day and be proud of. And along the way, I was fortunate enough to have a following of people who genuinely enjoyed and looked forward to what I was making.
It's a bit crazy when I look back at how this whole thing came to be, because it initially started as just 3 separate renders (the ones attached to this post) that I had made for fun. But when I looked at them, all I could think about was how I could tie them together and tell some kind of story with it. And so what I ended up coming with was a story that has Mitsuru reminisce on the events of her social link, and how her relationship with Makoto has left an impact on her for the rest of her life.
From start to finish, all I ever wanted this to be was basically a love letter to Persona 3 and what I took away from the game. The most beautiful thing about art, or entertainment as a whole, is that everyone is going to perceive things differently - take something different out of it. And for me, what I took away from this game is reflected throughout the narrative I was trying to tell with these renders that I made. I historically never cared for romance angles in games, but this one with Makoto and Mitsuru really touched me for reasons I had such a hard time putting into words for a while. It wasn't just because "they are cute together", or because of the Romeo/Juliet-style of vibe they exude. It was because of how well Mitsuru's social link and her dynamic with Makoto encapsulates what P3 is all about for me, which are the little moments and things that are worth cherishing in life. It's very ironic in some ways that P3 is the only Atlus game (or video game in general) with romance paths that had this kind of impact on me, considering it has an incredibly low amount of romance events compared to other entries. It goes to show more than anything that romance angles can still work incredibly well if they actually complement the overarching narrative and themes of a game/movie/book.
I'll have a post sometime next week with a link to the PDF for the digital novel/comic, along with links to some HQ renders and other things that people may enjoy. After that though, I'm not sure what I'll be working on. I definitely won't be working on something of this scale again, but I may have some one-off stuff that I'll post whenever I feel inclined to do so. Besides, I still have a handful of cut renders and finished renders that I never ended up posting.
Anyways I'm not sure how I want to end what ended up being a pretty long ramble, but I'll be back on here next week to share the links for "The Tears I Shed for You". Cheers!

2000 Man (A beatle!reader story) - Part 5: Fore!
A quick one, inspired by this picture. Beautiful.
As always, credit to @casafrass for inventing the concept of Beatle!reader, that mf idea that sister snatched my heart.
Description: It’s the year 2000, and y/n, the fifth member of the Beatles, is advertising her new book, Madam Beatle, in her first interview of the year. We see snapshots of her life, from when she joined the band, to the trials and tribulations, to the death of the band, and everything in between. Loosely inspired by Slumdog Millionaire.
Part: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Head canons: None, I think, besides the general concept, this is just me spitballing.
Words: 1465
Pairings: None? I mean, it’s the same as always, depending on how you view it, it can either be a pairing or a friendship.
Warnings: Alcohol, smoking, golf
“There is this recurring, oh, let’s call it a motif, in the book, of the Rolling Stones.”
“Yeah, this is one of the few cases in which popular opinion was actually correct. We really did see the Stones a lot.”
“Now, you were friends?”
“I’d say so, yes. Initially, we had something of a rivalry, I guess you’d call it, but even in those days, we still had a very deep reverence for each other. And, then, at one point, our managers decided that we should meet.”
“An interesting decision, yes?”
“Well, you see, in our industry, competition isn’t unusual, but having enemies really can’t be an option. I think they wanted to actually have us meet face to face so our competitive energy couldn’t turn into blind hatred. Because that only leads to worse things.”
“Hasn’t competition produced some great records?”
“Yes, but it’s not really a prerequisite. All due respect, I really am against the idea that you need some sort of negative presence to properly be a musician, or make beautiful things. People just like focusing on that because it’s interesting, but really, as much songs have been motivated by joy as they have grief. I wish more people, especially aspiring artists, knew that.”
*************
“They’re late.” Brian checked his watch impatiently.
“What’d you expect?” John was lighting his cigarette.
“Their public personas are one thing, but there’s no need to be rude in private.” Brian huffed.
“Maybe, and this is crazy, but hear me out, their on-stage personas evolved from their own personalities.” You retorted as John courteously lit your own cigarette for you.
“(Y/n), I’m really not in the mood for any of your back-talk. If you could kindly keep the sass to yourself, I think it would benefit all of us.” Brian retorted and John snickered.
“You got in trouble.”
“Shut up, John, I’m gonna go check out the bar.” You shifted your eyes up to Brian, expecting some sort of reprimand, though he just looked at you tiredly.
“Just don’t get drunk.” And with that, he paid you no more mind. It’s not nearly as fun when he doesn’t get offended, you thought.
You turned on your heel and wandered off in the opposite direction, leaving John to flit over to Paul, George, and Ringo, who were pretending to know how to swing a club. You laughed to yourself. The benefit of being the only girl in the group is that when they did dumb guy business meeting things, you were not expected to participate. Another day of your life where you would not have to play golf. Thank god.
You swung open the door to the bar and the air conditioner hit you in the face. The bar had an old-timey feel, all the way down to the bar tender cleaning a glass at the counter and a few mysterious strangers lined up on the stools. Might as well join ‘em.
You plopped yourself on the stool the closest to the door and called the bartender over.
“What can I do ya for, sweetheart?”
“Vodka sour.” He nodded and whisked off behind the counter to fetch your order. You took a drag of your cigarette.
“Vodka sour?” A thick British accent floated from one of the stools. You spun around your seat, face to face with none other than Keith Richards, the guitarist for the Rolling Stones, and also one of the people that you were waiting on.
“It’s 5 o’clock somewhere.” You shrugged. If he wanted to play it coy, and act like you two don’t know each other, then he’s on.
He slid out of his seat and moved to the one directly next to you. The both of you were smoking and sizing each other up. Of course, if you wanted to ruin the fun, you could’ve asked why he was late. But you didn’t.
“Vodka sour, Miss.” The bartender dropped your drink on the counter. You briefly turned back to him.
“Thanks, what do I owe you?” As you struggled to pull out your wallet, Keith took some money from the front pocket of his shirt and handed it to the bartender. He returned your startled look with a charming smile.
“On me.”
“Well now, I must be something special if I’m getting you to buy drinks for me.” You doused your cigarette in the ashtray and took a long sip.
“Nah, it’s just, I feel like I know you from somewhere.” He grinned.
“Feeling’s mutual. Perhaps I can buy the next one?”
“Oi, Keith, stop flirtin’ we got some bugs ta’ meet!” Another British accent, though this one a lot more harsh, cut through the room.
Coming in from the alternate entrance was none other than the flamboyant, the one and only, the Romeon to your Juliet, Mick Jagger. Trailing behind him like ducklings was the Stones’ manager, Andrew Loog-Oldham, the bassist, Bill Wyman, the other guitarist, Brian Jones, and the dummer, Charlie Watts.
“While you were sittin’ on your ass, Mick, I already got started!” He leaned back in his seat, revealing you sitting next to him. You flashed your million dollar smiled at the confused crowd.
“It’s a pleasure.” You toasted to them across the room with your vodka sour, before finishing the drink off and leaving it on the counter.
Mick’s eyes slanted at you, and you could’ve sworn that you heard him purr.
“A pleasure indeed.” He stalked across the room towards you, before gently taking your hand in his own and kissing your knuckles. You turned to Keith from the side.
“See? He knows how to greet a lady.” Keith chuckled at your joke.
“I apologize if our Keith has been forward at all, he can’t handle himself around birds, ‘specially those he fancies.” From what you already knew about Mick, you would never really know whether or not he was actually interested in you because he flirted with anything that moved.
“The picture of a gentleman.” You smiled wryly.
“Damnit, Keith. That’s against our image.” Brian teased, his blonde locks bouncing as his head moved. You giggled.
“Well, I suppose we shouldn’t keep the others waiting? They’re out there pretending they know how to play golf.” The crowd laughed, yet again. You were on a roll. You got up from your stool, getting your footing on the floor, not forgetting to leave a tip in the jar, as you exited the building flanked by your biggest pop competitor.
The image of their (y/n) coming up the hill with a group of men known for being disrespectful towards everything did set the lads on edge a bit. John was almost angry, Paul was concerned, George was curious, and Ringo was still focusing on his swing. Brian was just glad that these people had showed up on time.
As the manager’s greeting each other with aggressive levels of formality, the group took to intermingling.
“Not gonna lie, I thought you had just found some fans (y/n).” Paul started.
“You’d be correct. We are fans.” Mick put an arm around your shoulder.
“Speak for yourself. I thought you were kidnapped.” John did that thing where he would say a joke, but you knew that there was real anger underneath. You silently prayed that John wouldn’t mess this up.
“Oh, please. If anything I kidnapped them.” You psshed.
“Does anyone actually know why we’re here?” Brian interluded, somewhat impatient with the formalities of the managers.
“I think the football mums over there wanted us to play golf together? Because that’s what business people do?” John shrugged sarcastically, and the group chuckled.
“Is now a bad time to tell them that I don’t think any of us know how to play?” George quipped quietly, though making sure that he was still included in the conversation.
“Speak for yourself, I think my swings improved.” Ringo demonstrated, narrowly missing the back of Brian’s head, though thankfully, Brian didn’t actually notice.
“Yeah, if you’re tryna take someone out.” You smiled at Ringo, knowing full well that someone would die of a golf mishap before the day was over.
“Speakin’ of takin’ out...” Mick looked back down at you flirtatiously. John had finally boiled over.
“Absolutely not. No.” He pulled you over to their side. Everyone giggled like a bunch of pre-teen boys, except for John, surprisingly.
“As a rule, (y/n) is off limits. Just business, lads.” He placed you behind him and Paul like a wall.
“Imma big girl, Johnny. Just like you.” Talk shit, get roasted John. Though everyone was laughing, with several oohs interspersed between them, you could swear that Paul laughed unusually hard.
“Alright you ten,” Brian returned to the group, “shall we get started?”
“I just have one question, Brian,” Paul turned to face him, “how do you play golf?”

I know many people don't like kara and mon-el love story. But I like it, for reason I am gonna list below. And yes I am aware that he was a dude bro, and a slave owner.
But I think it was important for kara's journey in a way that made her a more mature person.
In season 1 we see kara pining over james. It was a crush initially but then it became a thing which she couldn't have as he was with Lucy, something unobtainable. And I guess she was more in love with the idea of a relationship than she was in love with james, which she herself admits.
Kara never had any serious relationship in all her life and then came mon-el. He was this dude who was also an alien. She thought he could understand her on that level and they could be together without hurting each other physically. We see her idealizing their relationship, overlooking his faults and giving him second chances because it was her chance at having everything. She wasn't in even love with him as he was but the idea of what he could be .
She herself admits all this to mon-el in season 3.
Kara always thought love as something people write poetry about , she imagined mon-el and her as star crossed lover ,modern romeo and Juliet. For her, love was like rom com on steroids. And while part of it is true but real love is so much more that, it's complicated and grounded. It helps you became more true to yourself.Sometimes it hurts. Sometimes you say mean things to each other just to hurt other person. But in the end the love is still there.(😬 supercorp)
And then before she could really see their relationship as it was ,he was gone.
After that she spends months crying over her loss. I guess people could argue that he was her love of life(I completely disagree) because I saw that as her mourning her chance at being normal. Having it all.
Then he comes back, this time more mature and as a man she could truly love but he is married. We again see her devasted as she clings to the idea of being normal.
I love this arc parallel to season 3 arc of kara who is trying to find her true self. Can she be just supergirl without being kara? Could she just be kara zorel ,leave earth and be normal.
And I am going to ignore that one episode where she was almost going to kiss mon-el, because I cannot fathom the idea of Supergirl kissing a married man. Also I hate love triangles.
But in the end kara does realize that she can never be normal again, that chance was lost when she was put into that pod,but that doesn't mean it was a bad thing. Her life has changed completely. She can never be just kara zor el anymore. She is kara danvers ,Supergirl and kara zorel all three persona.
Same way she realises that what she had with mon-el was special because it made both of them a better person. They can never be together again but that doesn't mean their relationship was bad. Her outlook on love has changed for better.
She has matured in a way that now she can be with someone who can truly love her.(again 😜😜 lena)
P.S- ignore my grammatical mistakes as english is not my first language.

Psych: The Essential Episode Guide
https://ift.tt/32iOkA8
As a TV series, Psych is like one of those frozen yogurt chains where the wall is ringed with different flavors and you can keep pulling levers for whatever combination you want. There are the Shawn/Gus episodes, the “Shawn’s psychic lie is threatened” episodes, the increasingly genius and lovingly rendered (often ‘80s-tastic) tributes, and the ensemble classics where the whole cast is just a well-oiled machine after years of riffing off one another. You can have whatever flavor you want. And don’t even get me started on toppings (there’s gotta be pineapple, at the very least).
Over its eight-year run, Psych interrogated its own premise, built out its supporting cast, let its characters play their favorite movie characters, and adapted its own internal mythology into trilogies that would make any movie-buff weep with appreciation. Here is a baker’s dozen of the most giggle-worthy, self-referential, surprisingly dramatic episodes of Psych. (And with so many to choose from, your favorite flavor combinations might be different from mine—share your own best episodes in the comments!)
Season 2 Episode 1: “American Duos”
Once the show had had a season under its belt of the fake-psychic shtick, the writers and actors got to really start playing in the sandbox they’d created. The second-season premiere has it all: a pop culture riff on a certain popular reality show competition; Tim Curry and Gina Gershon going above and beyond in their parodies of Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul; and Shawn and Gus giving a truly spectacular mashup performance as Curt Smith and Michael Jackson.
Season 2 Episode 3: “Psy vs. Psy”
I’m a sucker for the episodes where Shawn might have to come clean about his big fat lie. Season 2 poked at that possibility early on, with a counterfeit case that brings in government agent Lars Ewing (Lou Diamond Phillips) and female psychic Lindsay Leiken (Bianca Kajlich). Not only does Lars ruffle Lassiter’s feathers and get Jules hot and bothered, but Lindsay seems to be a lot more intuitive than Shawn—to the point where the SBPD may be looking to replace their consultant. Shawn has a knack for making things harder for himself, but the situations in which he has to actually fight his way out are always rewarding.
Season 2 Episode 13: “Lights, Camera… Homicidio”
The second season really cemented the series’ delight in its own ridiculousness—not just in the bizarre cases, but in how Shawn and Gus (and the rest of the SBPD) react to them. This week, it was an accidental murder via botched prop knife on the set of Explosión Gigantesca de Romance, Gus’ (and Henry’s) favorite telenovela, that really highlighted Psych’s embrace of the absurd. While doing his psychic thing, Shawn gets “discovered” enough to play the sexy delivery guy, who becomes a beloved character in his own right… only to learn for himself how badly the show’s fans blur the lines between characters and actors. Though not as outright meta as the tribute episodes, it still was wonderfully self-aware about the pitfalls of emotionally investing in fictional characters.
Season 4 Episode 5: “Shawn Gets the Yips”
This episode is a bit of a bait-and-switch in that Shawn having the yips (about baseball, not being a psychic) doesn’t really impact the plot, which starts with a shooting at a known cop bar and culminates in a commentary on the police force not properly punishing drug lords who sell opioids. The subplot about the drug lord supposedly targeting SBPD members is a bit of a red herring for the more nuanced twist about the cost of the opioid epidemic, but it contains one of my favorite moments, in which Shawn unintentionally gets a great workout because he believes that the message on his water bottle (your heart rate drops below 150, you die) is a threat. Just a solid mid-series episode.
Season 4 Episode 16: “Mr. Yin Presents…”
Just like with Bones, Psych really came into its own when it mixed the laughs with actual life-or-death stakes—and in both cases, that was thanks to a serial killer obsessed with our protagonist. Season 3 ended on “An Evening with Mr. Yang,” which introduced Ally Sheedy (one of many, many famous cameos) as the eponymous serial killer who kidnapped Shawn’s mother to get closer to him. But with her locked away and more artfully arranged kills discovered, the SBPD have to confront that Yang might have a Yin—which of course spawns a trilogy.

Psych 2: Lassie Come Home Review

TV
Psych 2: Lassie Come Home Stars on Hitchcock Homages and Special Reunions
By Natalie Zutter
The Empire Strikes Back of the Yin/Yang saga is my personal favorite, though I highly recommend watching all three. The team’s introduction to Yang’s twisted mentor is through his love of Alfred Hitchcock movies: He casts each of them in an iconic role while leading them on a wild goose chase through Santa Barbara, ending at a movie set mashup and presenting Shawn with an impossible choice between saving girlfriend Abigail or Juliet. The latter has one of her most powerful moments, stoically accepting her death while suspended from a clock and later breaking down in Lassiter’s arms. Her PTSD remains through the Yin/Yang saga, another sign of the series’ maturity as it explores the ripple effect of its more dramatic plots.
Season 6 Episode 2: “Last Night Gus”
While Shawn and Gus are the series OTP, part of the show’s beauty has been in building up its other bromances. This spoof of The Hangover has Shawn, Gus, Lassiter, and Woody waking up in the Psych offices with no memory of their antics the night before, but plenty of incriminating clues tying them to a dead body. Their attempt to solve the mystery of how they got so memory-obliteratingly drunk has them encountering a sweet gay bartender couple, a murdered donut mascot, and a hot girl who’s very into Last Night Gus… if only he knew what he did. In addition to riffing superbly on the movie, the episode is a fun commentary on our present selves solving the mysteries of our past personas.
Season 7 Episode 5: “100 Clues”
I managed to watch this without realizing what the Psych crew was going for, so the moment that Shawn and Gus pulled up in the Blueberry to a mansion in a rainy homage to Clue, I was squealing harder than Gus at the notion of a secret chocolate room. For the series’ 100th episode, they lovingly parodied the perfect locked-mansion murder mystery, with killer cameos from Lesley Warren, Christopher Lloyd, and Martin Mull (plus little nods to the Clue alums who couldn’t be there, like Eileen Brennan). From the Singing Telegram Girl to the secret passageways, only true fans could achieve this level of detail—a perfect landmark celebration.
Season 7 Episode 7: “Deez Nups”
The sign of a great ensemble series is that they can make the standard, super-tropey wedding episode feel fresh again. It helps that it’s Lassiter’s nuptials, and everyone wants to see the guy happy, which is what leads to Shawn, Gus, and Woody kidnapping the detective for a bachelor party, while Juliet and the Chief get roped into being Marlowe’s bachelorette buddies. The threat of a mob boss taking revenge on Lassie takes a backseat to such wedding fare as Vick getting weepy-drunk on shots and McNab popping up as a police stripper (I cackled at the payoff of his Chekhov’s tearaway pants). Just like with a real-life wedding, when you know the people involved, it feels special and unique. (There is also a gross, transphobic joke about a stripper, one of the aspects of Psych that did not age well.)
Season 7 Episode 8: “Right Turn or Left for Dead”
Tribute episodes are Psych’s bread and butter, but rarely do they advance the plot as effectively and emotionally as this riff on Sliding Doors. After Juliet finds out that Shawn has been lying about being a psychic, which makes her believe that everything about their relationship has been a lie, Shawn indulges in a fantasy in which he’s 1990s Gwyneth Paltrow (naturally) pondering the diverging paths of whether Jules does or doesn’t discover the truth.
The story immediately splits into two takes on the same case, but in one she’s a Jane Doe and in the other Shawn actually has a chance to save her… only to discover that her life path was already set in stone after an abusive childhood. Even with subtle moments of humor that highlight the parallel universes’ differences in solving cases, overall the episode is a study in how one choice has ramifications far beyond the initial action—a lesson Shawn needed to learn, in the penultimate season.
Season 7 Episode 11: “Office Space”
If the boys trying to cover their tracks in “Last Night Gus” was worth a few giggles, Gus and Shawn tampering with a murder scene and then trying to clean their hands of it in this episode is the kind of laughter that hurts. When Gus publicly confronts his abusive boss, only for the man to wind up offed and poor Guster very incriminated. The sequence in which they hysterically stumble their way through the crime scene is worth watching alone; but as evidence mounts and it looks like they could actually be caught in the crosshairs, the levels of ingenuity to which they’re pushed shows why this is the show’s best partnership.
Season 8 Episode 1: “Lock, Stock, Some Smoking Barrels and Burton Guster’s Goblet of Fire”
This is the episode that got me back into the show after years of casual viewing: a mashup of Guy Ritchie and Harry Potter that manages to add a whole new layer to one of Psych’s best recurring characters, refined art thief Pierre Desperaux (Cary Elwes) while giving him a proper send-off.
Like the Yin/Yang trilogy, the entire Desperaux quartet is worth watching for the heists, the Indiana Jones lampooning, and especially for his continued double-crossing of his greatest fan Shawn. But this one takes the cake because it adds a new layer to the Desperaux mythology: He’s actually Royston Staley, an Interpol agent who went undercover as a gentleman thief. Or is he?? Plus, add in the runner about poor Gus in his Hogwarts robes just trying to make it to PotterCon, and you have a near-perfect episode.
Season 8 Episode 3: “Remake, A.K.A. Cloudy… WIth a Chance of Murder”
What better way to mark your final season than by remaking one of your season 1 episodes? What’s incredible about Psych is how many different ways it goes meta, but there was something especially entertaining about its remake of season 1, episode 12 “Cloudy… With a Chance of Murder.” With periodic reminders that this episode is set in 2006, it recasts almost all of the characters—a teacher accused of killing a local weatherman, the lawyer for the prosecution (Ralph Macchio)—and makes space for new jokes (about remakes and My Cousin Vinny) and new twists. All long-running series should get a chance to try and redo their early episodes after they’ve gelled their characters and dynamics.
Season 8 Episode 10: “The Break-Up”
After trying to make their long-distance relationship work, Shawn decides to move to San Francisco to be with Juliet, a far easier choice than actually breaking the news to Gus. Of course the Psych series finale would be about these two facing the end of their partnership. Specifically, Shawn’s inability to say goodbye, so instead he and Gus wind up investigating a case involving special guest star Billy Zane, careening around in their high-school drivers ed car, and competing with SBPD’s peppy new detective Betsy Brannigan (Mira Sorvino). When none of this helps Shawn come out with the truth, he does so through DVD—a whole batch of DVDs, tailored to each of his colleagues and dear friends. Because Shawn loves telling a story.
There’s no better end for Shawn and Gus than a bromantic one, complete with driving cross-state (albeit turning back 12 times), dramatic declaration of love (at a crime scene), and pledging their lives together before Shawn actually proposes to Juliet (as a formality). And it’s not just about them: The finale has sweet moments of closure for new junior detective McNab (aww) and especially Lassiter, who finally gets Shawn’s confession—then breaks the DVD. If the Psych movies had never happened, it would have been enough; but instead, it’s the sugary-sweet end of one chapter and the opening of another.

Wrong place, wrong time
@beggingforbreathe and I worked on this story together. We hope you like it!
*****
In my experience as an ER doctor, I feel that most trauma cases are the result of poor decision making in some capacity. However, there are people that were simply victims of circumstance and sometimes those are the hardest to take. And now, sitting at my computer as I type in notes for the coroner, I realize I had one of these victims of circumstance today.  It ended up being a particularly difficult case for me.
Patient info:
Name: Madilyn Morris
Date of Birth:  10/17/1979
Description: 38-year-old white female, 5'11, Impossibly fair skinned with a hint of pink in her cheeks, she didn't wear much makeup, but she didn't need it as her skin was clear.  Chocolate brown eyes that were large and fringed with dark lashes. Tall with softer curves that had a slight hourglass shape. Wider hips, naturally large breasts. Dark hair with a touch of white hid by the streaks of honey and purple. Small wrinkles around her mouth and eyes from laughter, and a Celtic moon tattooed on her hip.
Medical Problem: … I stare at the screen remembering.
It started a little after 12 pm.  Normally, weekday afternoons are totally empty in my emergency department so I take a lunch break between 12 and 1. However, my lunch break was cut off rather quickly.  My pager went off, telling me that EMS was on the way with a critical patient. Calling the desk, all they could tell me was “female, late 30s, multiple gsw’s.” With a sigh, I thought a few things: First . . . who gets shot on a weekday afternoon?  Second . . . how serious was this case? Were these gunshot wounds going to be flesh wounds or was she going to be basically dead on arrival? I hoped for the best but mentally prepared for the worst.
I left the hospital cafeteria and quickly started ordering my nurses and residents around. “Ok, let’s get trauma 1 ready. Let’s get blood, FFP, an intubation kit, a chest tube tray, a thoracotomy tray, and a crash cart. I wanna make sure we’re prepared for EVERYTHING! And call the OR and make sure there’s an OR ready for us just in case.”
My staff members hurried around the emergency department as they geared up, prepared the trauma room, and got the supplies I felt we needed. “what’s our ETA?” I asked. One of the nurses replied, “ETA is 5 minutes.”   I nodded and went into trauma room 1 and put my gown, gloves, and face visor on. The room was eerily quiet in those few minutes, you could probably hear a pin drop. Little did I know, that was the calm before the storm.
When the ambulance and patient arrived, the trauma team and I were bombarded with a wall of sound. The ambulance’s sirens were very loud, running at the highest level possible and were followed by all the commotion that ensued as they ran the gurney in.   The paramedics wheeled our patient in and said “38-year-old female, 1 gsw to the left chest, 1 to the upper left abdomen, and 1 grazing wound to the left calf. Hypotensive, tachycardic, probable hypovolemic shock, altered mental status…”
“Seriously?” she coughed and swallowed hard.  “Altered mental status? I just got shot! Wanna trade places and see how your mental status is?” she said weakly with very sharp brown eyes glaring at the man as she intervened in my conversation.  She was a feisty one, probably running off adrenaline, but that worked in my favor.
“Alright, ma’am, can you tell me your name?” I asked as she was transferred to the table carefully.
“Madilyn. My students call me Mrs. Morris.” She answered with a sigh.
“So you’re a teacher?” I asked, trying to make conversation to put her at ease and hopefully gather potentially vital information. “What do you teach?”
“High school English.”  She’s a little short of breath as she responds.  “Today, the death scene in Romeo and Juliet. Fitting huh?”  Her eyes blink closed for a few seconds as I almost miss the grimace and the slight way she scrunches her toes.  She is in some pain, but I am reluctant to give her anything that might dull her senses right now. “Really living the dream, aren’t I?” she replied a bit sarcastically, but I could tell there was humor under the sarcasm and the corner of her mouth turned up showing off the little laugh lines at the corner.  This was a woman who seemed to have no regrets.
“Can you tell me what happened, Madilyn? I know you got shot, but is there anything you can tell me beyond that?” I asked.  I really just wanted to keep her talking. If she was talking, it can’t be that serious. I wanted it to not be serious.
“I was just getting my class settled …  we had a fire drill.” Her sentences are short, broken, but to the point.   “I heard some noise in the hallway … yelling and cussing. I knew the voice so I stepped out into the hall.  He was shoving the guard and trying to take his gun. He tackled the guy, almost had the gun and the guard warned him that he was going to shot.  He was so strong . . . the boy just grabbed his arm and tried to wrestle the gun free. Somewhere in there, the guard pulled the trigger. He hit me… I don’t think he even knew I was in the hall.”
“So you were at the wrong place at the wrong time,” I reply as people work around her and I quietly observe.  “Can you tell me the name of the boy or the security guard?”
“I can’t,” she sighs.  I remember that names are protected information and nod.  “He’s fairly new, autistic. He has some challenging behaviors.  He doesn’t like noise and I didn’t see his headphones. The alarms probably upset him. He saw me after … I don’t think he understood.  As for the guard… it was an accident. I don’t want anyone in trouble over this.” I look at her thinking that maybe her mental status is a bit altered.
“Alright Madilyn, I can’t make any guarantees about them.  We’re gonna focus on you now and make sure you’re ok,” you reply as you touch my bare shoulder trying to be reassuring.
I removed the blanket that EMS placed over Madilyn's torso. Her chest and abdomen were covered in a decent amount of blood, almost marching the burgundy bra and panty set she was wearing. “Ok, I want a chest x-ray, a chest and abdominal ultrasound, and let’s hang o-neg and FFP from the rapid infuser,” I ordered.
“It hurts,” she finally breaks down looking at me.  Her brown eyes were starting to show it now as I notice the thin sheen of tears.  The adrenaline protecting her was definitely fading. “Could you do something for the pain?” She didn’t shout.  She didn’t scream, but her jaw was locked and her toes were curled tight now. Her fingers were wound tight around the sheets.
“Alright,” you agree wishing you could be reluctant but knowing you can’t.  “Let’s push a round of morphine,” I said, realizing that Madilyn was in pain, despite her tough, sarcastic persona.
We removed her bra and panties along with the backboard, c-collar, and head stabilizer and turned Madilyn onto her side to locate exit wounds. It was a pretty quick initial assessment: 3 entry wounds, 3 exit wounds. Now the next question was: what structures were injured? Madilyn was awake, talking and seemed “fine” despite the circumstances.  Her stats, however, suggested substantial blood loss. “Let’s get that chest x-ray and the ultrasounds,” I ordered.
“Madilyn, how’s your breathing?” I asked concerned.  The morphine had started to kick in and her body was much more relaxed.
“Fine,” she sighed.  But I ’m cold. The room might be spinning.  Is this worse than I think it is?” she asked as her eyes closed.
“We don't know just yet but we’re gonna get to the bottom of this, Ok?” I said back to her.  “How’s that blood coming?” you say knowing that they need to keep the supply going. You look up, but it’s full and dripping into her arm.
The chest x-ray didn’t really show anything significant. However, both ultrasounds concerned me greatly. The chest ultrasound showed pericardial effusion and the abdominal ultrasound showed evidence of a large bleed but the source was unknown. My main concerns were the spleen or the abdominal aorta as the source of the bleeding. At that point, I decided to get a consult from our trauma surgeon about our next step. Madilyn seemed adequately stable so I figured I’d hand her off to surgery and be done with the case . . . or so I thought.
One minute she seemed fine, the next she started to deteriorate rapidly. Her blood pressure started to tank and she started spitting up blood.  Madilyn was scared at that point. Her bravado was totally gone. She looked at me while shivering and asked “am I gonna die?” while more blood entered her mouth as she coughed.
“We're gonna get a surgeon down here. I just need you to stay with me, ok?” I asked her while looking into her brown eyes.  I grabbed her hand and squeezed it for a second before knowing I needed to get back to work. The second I let go, it was as if she suddenly fell asleep. The monitors displayed ventricular fibrillation.
“Damn it! Where’s that surgical consult?!” I shouted as one of the nurses started pumping away at madilyn's chest.  Her large, natural breasts bounced around during each individual compression as the sound of the defibrillator paddles charging could be heard in the background. “Ok, everyone clear!” I shouted as the defibrillator paddles were placed onto the woman's bare chest. Her body arched slightly and crashed back onto the table as the shock went through her body. “No change! Push a round of epi and recharge the paddles.” I ordered while the nurse resumed deep, violent chest compressions. An Ambu bag was placed over her nose and mouth so air could be forced in. “I don't think she’s moving any air, we need suction!” Shouted the nurse that was in charge of bagging. Once blood was suctioned out of the woman's mouth, another shock was delivered. Madilyn's size 10 feet flew into the air and slammed down quickly, showing off a few prominent wrinkles in the soles of her feet. The monitors showed an idioventricular rhythm. She’d slipped into the grey area between asystole and v-fib; it’s not a shockable rhythm so all we could do is get blood into her, push meds, and keep doing CPR.
After another round of epinephrine and 2 and a half more minutes of uneventful CPR, I decided that we should intubate her. As her chest was being continuously pounded, I watched as the resident with me grabbed the silver scope and opened her mouth wide with gloved hands.  A plastic tube was inserted into her airway and held in place with tape. “Tube's in,” said the resident that did the intubation. An Ambu bag was attached to the tube and ventilation was resumed. I placed my stethoscope on her chest just to make sure we had good breath sounds.  They’d done a great job. Air moved through her lungs.
The nurse that was performing CPR started to get tired so I swapped out with them, wanting to keep the best possible flow of blood going. I placed the heel of my hand on the center of Madilyn’s chest, kept my arm straight, interlocked my fingers over her heart, and pushed down hard and fast without bending my elbows. I could feel Madilyn’s fading body heat against my palms as I heard one of her ribs snap like a twig. I heard a muted cracking sound with each individual compression after that.
Another 3 minutes went by as my arms grew tired and my muscles ached. We pushed 2 more rounds of epi along with a round of atropine, and then angiotensin 2. Unfortunately, she was still in this idioventricular rhythm. I started to feel extremely fatigued since I was pumping the beautiful woman’s chest with maximum effort.  If ever I wanted someone to pull through, this was it . . . she didn’t need to die, not under these circumstances. I looked down at her face. If it wasn’t for the ET tube hanging out of her mouth, I would’ve thought she was asleep.
“Come on Madilyn! Come back to us! I wanna hear you make another smart alec remark, ok?!” I shouted at her as if I was convincing her not to die. “You can do it.  Stay with us.” I was starting to get short of breath from this effort, even with the break in between as we constantly switched places.
CPR went on to no avail for another 2 minutes. At that point, I had to make some changes to the code because what we were doing obviously wasn’t working. Her pupils were sluggish but still reactive so she wasn’t dead just yet.
“Get me the thoracotomy tray! We gotta open her up now!” I shouted, hoping that my desperate attempt would bring Madilyn back.
I swapped out of doing CPR so I could perform the thoracotomy. A nurse squirted betadine on the left side of Madilyn's chest. I picked up the 10 blade off of the thoracotomy tray as someone lifted her arm for me. I made an incision in her 5th intercostal space starting at her sternum and ending at the mid-axillary line, near her left armpit. After the incision, I used blunt forceps to cut through the muscle, connective tissue, and fat to expose the space between her ribs. Once the cutting and snipping were done, I placed a finochietto rib spreader into the incision site and quickly began turning the knobs. Madilyn’s chest was still being pumped as a cracking, popping sound filled the room as I forced the teacher's chest open.
Once she was open, I reached into her chest and started feeling around to see what was injured. “Damn. There’s a large hole on the anterior and posterior side of the left ventricle. I need suction!” I shouted as a nurse suctioned out blood from the patient's chest cavity.  The chest X-Ray had not shown this. Maybe it was the low blood volume at the start. Whatever the reason, I’d had no reason to think it was this bad. I might have cracked her chest open sooner if I had.
I quickly tried to patch up the two wounds as one of the residents started internal cardiac massage. Her heart was barely quivering at this point.  I stitched up the wounds quickly to try and limit the damage; it was simply a temporary fix. After that, I took over internal compressions as the final round of epi was pushed. To my surprise, Madilyn converted to a shockable rhythm. I suddenly felt her heart squirm around in my hands as I forced the damaged organ to pump effectively. “Ok, someone charge the internal paddles,” I ordered as I pumped madilyn’s heart manually. “Come on Madilyn, don't do this!” I said to myself. I’m not in the habit of showing any such emotion to the staff around me.  Most people think I’m cold.
Seconds later, the internal paddles were charged and ready for use. I grabbed the large, spoon-shaped paddles and placed them into her chest, delivering a shock to her exposed, twitching heart. A dull, wet thump was heard as her body jolted slightly. “No change, resuming compressions!” I shouted as the internal paddles were being recharged. Madilyn’s heart squirmed around in my hands again as I forced it to pump. “come on…come on!” I said to myself while looking intensely at the heart monitor.
“Paddles are ready, Doctor,” one of the residents said holding them out to me. I grabbed the internal paddles, placed them onto Madilyn’s quivering heart, and shocked her again. Her body twitched and her toes scrunched as the electricity ran through her lifeless body.
“No pulse.  She’s still in V-Fib.” Said one of the residents. The sounded a little defeated.
“Resuming internal compressions.  Charge the paddles again,” I ordered the resident. I massaged Madilyn’s heart for several seconds as the sound of the internal paddles charging could be heard behind me. Once the paddles were ready, I placed them back into Madilyn's chest cavity and delivered another shock. Her arms flailed subtly and her breasts jiggled.  I plunged my hand back into her chest to feel her heart. The monitors displayed no change whatsoever as her lungs fluttered around my hand as they pushed air into her from the bag. Pulling my hand out, I immediately shocked Madilyn again and got the exact same result.
“She’s still in v-fib. Charge again!” I shouted refusing to give up on this woman’s heart.  One of the residents checked Madilyn’s pupils as I massaged her heart and the sound of the internal paddles charging was heard throughout the room.
“Doctor,” she said gently as I worked compressing her dying heart.  It was as if she could sense I didn’t want to hear what came next. Maybe she could.  “Doctor, her pupils are fixed and dilated….” Said the nurse in a defeated tone. “She’s gone.”
I paused for a moment, still holding her heart in my hands as the paddles were held out for me. The room became eerily silent during this pause. Madilyn was still in V-Fib but she was gone. I looked over at the clock and said “time of death, 13:04.”
Everyone around me looked like they felt the same way I did.  The monitors were slowly shut off as the Ambu bag was detached from the ET tube and the patient laid motionless on the bed. They placed the internal paddles back on the crash cart as I looked down at Madilyn's body as the nurses slowly removed EKG electrodes. I wanted to reach in and keep her going, but I knew I couldn’t.  Madilyn's heart twitched for a few more seconds as the nurses removed the last of the electrodes from her bruised, and bloody chest. Her body was deathly pale, her lips were pale, and she was a bit cold to the touch.
I removed my trauma gown and visor, which were covered in madilyn’s blood.  The door to the trauma room swung open as an admitting nurse walked in on the scene unfolding.  I can hear her sigh when she realized what was happening. “Her husband just arrived.” Her body was still bare on the table as people started to remove equipment.
“Okay.  I will be out in a few minutes.  Just let me….” Let me what. Nothing was going to make this easy on him if he wanted to see her.  But I could make it at least easier. Normally I wouldn’t even bother. I reached down and began to undo the rib spreaders, turning the knobs back until I was able to pull them out.  Most people were trickling out of the room because they were needed elsewhere. I probably was too, but I couldn’t leave her like this.
“Do you need help?” she asked kindly.
“Let’s clean her up,” I said quietly.  “I don’t want him to have to see her like this.”  She nodded at me as she moved to pull the tube between Madison’s pale blue lips before she got the stuff to clean the blood off of her chest and abdomen while I slowly closed the emergency thoracotomy I had done trying to save her life.  It didn’t take long to have her looking pale, but at least not like she’d died in such a tragic, violent way. I watched as the nurse got the cover for her body. I took it from her and placed it over Madilyn’s pale, lifeless body. Only her feet were left exposed. Lastly, I took the toe tag and placed it on the big toe of her left foot. The tag dangled in front of her prominent wrinkled soles as the nurse walked out of the room.
“I’m sorry, Madilyn,” I said quietly to her on the table and the empty room.  I knew I had tried. But I felt extremely defeated by this case. It’s hard when it goes like this….  when she was awake and alert when she came to my ER. She was a strong woman with a likable personality and she was much too young to be under this sheet right now.  And she’d died doing a job that’s supposed to be “safe.” It all left an unsettling feeling in my stomach. Especially now as I type out the notes for the coroner which will end my involvement in the case, but I’m pretty sure I know what they will say, she died from hypovolemic shock secondary to comorbid injuries to the left ventricular combined with a splenic laceration from the second bullet.  It still doesn’t make it any easier to write up though.

YbriAna, AleBarro, and A Lot More Rants
First of all, let me express my immense disappointment with the writing direction the makers of Encantadia’s requel have decided to go for in Book 2. More specifically, I’m severely disappointed with the execution. Maybe it sounded good on paper when they agreed on the summary, but it sure doesn’t look like they care much about the details. At least, it doesn’t look like it on TV.
And if that’s not bad enough, the newbie actors are not doing the show any favors as well. And I’m pretty sure you all know very well which “new” character I’m most frustrated with.
Yep. It’s Arra San Agustin’s Ariana character, the new Amihan (but not really).
Now let me clarify that while I was initially disappointed knowing that Kylie would be somewhat replaced (but not really?) by a new actress (heck, who wasn’t?), I eventually warmed up to the idea because honestly, it actually sounded pretty interesting. I loved the thrill and excitement of the idea of having her family slowly discover one by one that Ariana is actually Amihan, while she herself is trying to figure out who she really is.
Like come on! Imagine the tension, the huge emotional scenes between her and her three beloved sisters, her daughter Lira, and especially her true love Ybrahim, when they all find out that their former Queen has come back from the dead and is staying for good! The audience would be thrilled, and it would be as if Amihan never left.
Well, that ain’t going to be possible anymore.
Not with how the showrunners are executing Ariana’s story, and worse, Arra’s unhelpful, bland acting.
For more details, just go check out @iris-sistibly’s wonderful rant about the requel, if for some reason you haven’t checked it out before. Her critiques are exactly my thoughts on the show’s mistakes.
With that said, here are the 3 “We could’ve had it aaaaall” subplots that would’ve been good, but didn’t happen the way we expected:
1. Amihan’s strong, unbreakable connection with her sisters:
Akala ko this story’s about 4 sisters?
If there’s anyone who should’ve recognized Amihan first, it should’ve been her sisters, the ones who were with her since the day she was brought to Encantadia. Parang walang kwenta ang blood connection between Amihan and the rest.
Why are there almost no scenes between Ariana and the 3 sanggres?
The only deep, private conversation Ariana had with one of her true sisters was with Alena, talking about how Ariana should make the moves on Ybrahim so that he can be happy again (I’ll deal with this issue later). Shouldn’t Alena have suspected the reason why Ybrahim has suddenly started to fall for this woman, when he’s been so hungover from losing Amihan even after so long, was because Ariana is similar to Amihan?
And what about Danaya, the sister arguably closest and most loyal to Amihan? Couldn’t there have been a scene between the two of them only where they just sit and talk about what’s going on, and then have Danaya suspect something unusal yet familiar about Ariana?
The same with Pirena. This calculating, witty sanggre had the most conversations with Ariana out of the three, albeit angry and emotional ones, and yet she does not suspect at all that her once hated sister is inside Ariana’s body.
Well, I don’t blame them. Even us the audience are just as confused at the extent of Amihan’s personality in Ariana.
One of the worst changes in the requel, or rather Book 2, is the undermining of the 4 sanggres’ sisterly bond. Yes, Alena, Danaya, and Pirena have worked well together in order to honor Amihan’s legacy. And perhaps Danaya and Pirena might have their occasional disagreements and all.
But those are nothing new and exciting. This would’ve been their chance to prove that their sisterhood is unbreakable and stronger than any adversity. This would’ve clearly defined the main theme of Encantadia: the strength of love and family. The story between 4 warrior sisters.
Pero wala e. Iba ang fino-focus nila na “development”, which is failing miserably and of which I will discuss later on.
In short, the writers have forgotten the true essence of Encantadia and what the show really stands for.
2. Amihan’s inner “Motherly” side where Lira’s concerned:
I think we all know (and greatly despise) that certain Popcorn moment Ariana had when instead of helping Lira, the girl who’s supposed to be her real daughter, she instinctly decided to cower and hide in fear, and watch as Asval and co. continuously shot Lira to death.
The worst part of all is that she doesn’t seem one bit apologetic about the fact that she did absolutely NOTHING to save her.
Seriously? Are you sure Amihan’s in there?
Even if Ariana’s persona is obviously more visible, the real Amihan would’ve burst with emotion and make her enemies PAY for hurting her beloved daughter. She would’ve given up logic, anything really, to save her daughter and bring justice to her death.
Shouldn’t the power of love be strong enough to bring out her true self? Bakit kung sa mga normal fighting scenes or training, lumalabas ang pagka-Amihan, but when her daughter needs her the most, naka-off ang Amihan radar niya? That’s just plain inconsistent.
Also, they’re so-called “Mother-Daughter” bonding? I don’t see them as very convincing Not only is Arra’s acting uninspiring, but the way they show/place these moments out of nowhere is just … ugh!
It would’ve made more sense if Lira and Ariana actually bonded outside of their Tagapangalaga roles. What I mean is, it would’ve been nice to see them getting to know each other personally, and maybe after Lira reveals more about herself, Ariana would feel more and more the pull in her heart that’s telling her that this girl’s supposed to be THAT important to her, which will puzzle her and suspect her own identity.
Not only would that establish their Mother-Daughter bond again (and maybe give more time for Arra to get used to being a mother to Mikee), but it would also serve as development for Lira too.
Maybe then I would be okay with watching Lira remember her mother whenever Ariana shows an act of kindness to her.
3. Ybrahim and Amihan’s death-defying love and devotion to each other:
Now this is something that’s obviously being focused the most by the showrunners, no doubt since the YbraMihan fandom is (or perhaps was) the largest and most vocal group in Enca and is one of the reasons why some episodes have high ratings. No surprise that Ybrahim, who’s still pining for Amihan, would be the first to recognize or suspect something familiar about Ariana.
Even though I was heartbroken at the thought that KyRu could not continue YbraMihan’s epic love story in Enca, I was excited to see how their relationship would unfold with this new predicament. And while all along I predicted that the new Amihan actress would never have as much incredible and effortless chemistry with Ruru as Kylie did, I was willing to give it a chance for as long as they had a good, natural-flowing story development.
Except it didn’t happen that way.
Instead, Ybrahim and Ariana’s love story became one of if not the worst portrayed romance ever in Enca history.
Where should I start?
Hmm, let’s see. For one, they don’t have that sizzling chemistry. Even if the writing was bad, the undeniable chemistry would’ve been able to save it and at least make the romance look good.
For YbraMihan, they had both the realistic development and the unexpectedly overwhelming chemistry. That was exactly why most of the fandom including myself have switched to their side, because they made the most sense.
In AzuPiren’s case, even though Marx isn’t that good of an actor and his love story with Pirena wasn’t focused on that much, his burning chemistry with Glaiza saved this pairing and has earned the love of the fandom.
Unfortunately, Arra just doesn’t have that with Ruru.
Worse, the way they make it seem like every time Ariana is onscreen, the only thing she could ever think of is Ybrahim this and Ybrahim that.
Like giiiiiirl, Amihan was NEVER this obssessed with Ybrahim even though she loved him with all her heart.
The thing that YbriAna is having that became the very reason why I loathed AleBarro ver. 2 is the INSTA-LOVE.
How do you define Insta-Love? Well, think of it as Romeo and Juliet. These lovers have just met, and they’ve become so attracted to each other that for some reason they decide right away that they’re the love of their lives (even though they haven’t even gotten to know each other for more than a week) and would do anything, break the rules, defy their parents, or even kill themselves, in order to be with their lover.
That is what’s happening right now. You’re told and shown over and over that these two have a connection. But what would’ve made it more convincing is, like I mentioned with Lira, by having these two re-bond with each other and have them fall for each other not only because of the unavoidable pull they feel but also realizing the aspects that made them fall for the other like YbraMihan’s past.
The way they’re so into each other with absolutely no basis except for the invisible bond they have due to YbraMihan’s love makes this whole love affair a waste of time.
I hate to say this, but this ruined YbraMihan AND Amihan’s character. No wonder people are starting to lean over AleBarro’s side.
The main issue here really, overall, is the treatment the showrunners are giving the story.
They’re trying too hard to make these scenes look exciting and “twisted” for the sake of ratings that they fail to deliver a real, sympathetic and well-thought story that brings out the best in its characters, even the villains.
If they had problems with that, then they really should’ve ended with Book 1 and perhaps relax and take their time coming up with a better risk-proof story while waiting for Kylie to be available again. Better to end with a short, yet beautifully-executed story than an overdue, boring plot.
Now onto the main issue.
Shipping wars have always been a normal thing in fandoms, and Encantadia is no different. The biggest ship war we ever had was between AleBarro and YbraMihan, and for good reason too.
This time though, it’s ironic how these two rival shippers have somewhat united against YbriAna, despite the fact that YbriAna is essentially YbraMihan.
But can you blame them really?
The way I see it, AleBarro fans are frustrated with how unfair it is that GabRu weren’t given their second (or third?) chance now that Kylie’s out of the picture. Not to mention, some fans could still be very particular about following the original canon. I think it became worse when Arra ended up disappointing us even further, so having Ybrahim fall for a weak character like Ariana instead of Alena again, who’s become stronger and never really stopped loving Ybarro, would seem quite unfair especially to the Gabbi/GabRu fandom.
As for YbraMihan fans, like myself, it’s incredibly irritating to see how low they’re making their beautiful love story to be. Like I mentioned above, sobrang pangit ang pagka-execute ng mga scenes nila. And while Ruru’s acting is consistently on-point, Arra just doesn’t seem to keep up.
While I’m sure the writers had good intentions with this Sarkosi arc, THEY ARE. RUINING. THE VERY FOUNDATION AS TO WHY THEY LOVED EACH OTHER AND WHY FANS FELL IN LOVE WITH THEM.
Ariana is a big degrade from the Amihan we all know and love. YbriAna is a cheap 80% discount of the YbraMihan we all fought so hard for. And with YbriAna looking extra cheesier than Book 1 AleBarro, it’s really no wonder why people are taking AleBarro’s side this time than YbriAna/YbraMihan.
While I was initially sure that YbriAna would end up becoming canon, now that the show is again reminding us of Alena’s unwavering feelings for Ybarro (which I honestly don’t know how when they haven’t had a good, strong foundation in the start anyway), I’m now down to 50% certain of the outcome.
So here’s how I see it if they decide to switch back to AleBarro:
The Good:
1. They are the original canon, so having them end up together would not only reward Alena’s endurance, but also stay true to the original love story.
2. Alena has always been the person who sees sense and calms people down whenever tensions are high. That’s no different with how she treats Ybrahim, except her feelings for him run deeper than platonic. And right now, with him losing everything that’s important to him, he needs emotional support more than ever.
3. Alena DOES NOT disrespect her place in Ybrahim’s heart. It’s obvious that Ybrahim’s feelings for her have been long gone, and while there are plenty of opportunities for Alena to take advantage of Amihan’s absence or his problems to bring herself closer to him, she does not do it because she knows her boundaries and has her pride as a strong, independent woman, which I can say is VERY admirable of her.
4. Ybrahim can finally move on and be happy, have his new Queen of Sapiro, and maybe have Armea, the heir to the throne.
The Bad:
1. HINDI PA TONG LOVE STORY TAPOS??? While I loved Alena’s immense development, I’m disappointed with how repetitive this storyline is. Ybrahim’s true love in the requel is clearly Amihan, so having him end up with Alena, whom he already had a relationship before and tried to make it work but failed, would only make her seem like the second fiddle. And Alena does not deserve that.
2. While some people may see Ybarro/Ybrahim as a “womanizer” since he’s had about 3 love interests already, I think that’s a very unfair judgement for him. He never had a strong foundation with Alena, and because he had a better build-up with Amihan, it shouldn’t come off as a surprise to anyone that his feelings for Amihan would be stronger. And with Ariana, the only reason why he’s attracted to her is because he sees Amihan in her. So calling him a womanizer while in reality he’s only pining for his one true love for such a long time is kinda low.
Having him return to Alena is almost like making him some sort of ping pong ball that goes back and forth between women depending on who’s available to him. Like I said, it’s repetitive and overused, and I’m tired of seeing them give these two another chance when really this love story should’ve been long over. I am sick of this “First Love will never die” peg of Filipino teleseryes. Which brings us to number 3…
3. What is the point of Alena taking so long to “move on” when all along she never actually did? What is the point of Ybrahim’s eternal love for Amihan if he’ll end up falling for Alena when all along Amihan’s sarkosi is right there? She may be stronger and independent as a woman, but bringing her back to the man who only brought more pain than happiness is I think an injustice to Alena’s efforts. Ybrahim is not a price to be won just because Alena’s love for him never went away. And having Ybrahim fall for her again mostly due to some needed emotional support like a band-aid is unfair to Alena.
If Ybrahim has not looked at her in a romantic light ever since he chose Amihan, I don’t see how he’ll magically have these feelings for her again especially when he already knows how good a person Alena is. Not especially when he still feels strongly for Amihan through Ariana.
4. What is the freaking point of Memfes and Adamya??? It’s as if they’re only made to be fillers! This was supposed to be Alena’s time to shine, to show how good a leader she is on her own without depending too much on her loved ones, and to show that she’s not only meant to be a love interest. This is supposed to be the time to expand more about Adamya and bring it up there with the other countries. If she really wants to give her all to Adamya’s rebuilding, I don’t think being Queen of Sapiro would give her enough time and energy to do that.
About Memfes, I’m not impressed with him to be honest. Lance Serrano (am I right?) is as bad as Arra in terms of acting. But the “Beauty and the Beast” peg AleMemfes is going for would’ve been interesting if done properly, and I think it would be fitting for Alena to find love within a, well, a “beast” who actually has a good heart and is finding a place to belong, which is something they’d have in common.
Unfortunately, Memfes is being portrayed more like an Ybarro ver. 2. A lot of their meetings are similar to AleBarro’s first meetings. Heck, they don’t even have enough screentime to convince the audience of their chemistry. It would’ve been nice to see more variety and originality to clearly see the difference between AleBarro and AleMemfes.
(Bakit kasi hindi nalang si Muros ang pinatuloyan kay Alena if there had to be anyone?)
But really, the writers have already gone so far into establishing YbriAna, even introducing Memfes for Alena. So what would be the freaking point of Ariana and Memfes kung AleBarro lang pala ang magkatuloyan? Which brings us to number 5…
5. What would be the whole point of Amihan risking her own identity in order to return to her mag-ama, that is Ybrahim and Lira? What would be her purpose if Lira’s already dead and Ybrahim would only end up in someone else’s arms?
Making AleBarro endgame in my eyes is basically destroying any chance of Kylie coming back to the finale with a happy ending for Amihan. Come on, do you really believe that WHEN the true Amihan comes back, Ybrahim would wholeheartedly choose to be with Alena because it would seem to be the right thing to do? Could Ybrahim really take it if he cannot be near Amihan when she’s finally right there? I think we all already know that answer from Book 1. I mean, can you imagine what it would be like for Kylie and Ruru to be in the same scene, but they can no longer be romantic because Ybrahim has moved on with Alena? I can just see it now…
Imagine Amihan, the real one, coming to the wedding ceremony and giving her blessing to Ybrahim and Alena (because we all know how self-sacrificial Amihan really is, unlike Ariana). And as she stops in front of the two of them, her eyes lock with Ybrahim’s for a moment, but that moment would seem like a lifetime for them. Their eyes would express their shared feeling of regret and longing for a love that was not meant to be. Alena could only stand by the sidelines and let them have their last moment, perhaps a bit guilty and insecure at the intense connection the two share even after so long.
And while AleBarro fans are rejoicing, the YbraMihan fandom would reawaken completely and explode with comments flying all over the place.
“Dapat si Amihan ang nasa tabi ni Ybrahim!“
“Bakit parang mas gusto ni Ybrahim na si Amihan ang magiging asawa niya kay sa kay Alena?”
“Iba talaga ang lakas ng chemistry ng KyRu!”
Let’s be honest. The impact of the ending would really be more effective if Kylie was allowed to come back for the sake of sentimentality and to finish Amihan’s story herself. The finale would be more memorable for the fact that we’d have all four sisters reunited, and the family of YbraLiraMihan would have their long-awaited moment once again and FINALLY live happily ever after. Also hoping that Lira will finally become Queen in the end.
Even without Ybrahim, I’m pretty sure Alena could still have her happy ending. She’ll finally be able to close that painful chapter and give second love a chance, most likely in Memfes. And together they can live quietly in Adamya and build their family there, just like what Alena has always dreamed of.
Honestly, Alena does not deserve a man who does not completely see her worth even when she’s been supporting him from behind all her life.
To summarize it all down, while I despise YbriAna and agree that AleBarro looks far better together than the former at this moment, when i think about the long run/finale, there is no doubt in my mind that having YbraMihan (KyRu) end up together in the end will be make the most noisy impact (in a good way) in and out of the fandom.
I can at least pretend right then and there that Amihan never died and Book 2 never happened except for the ending. This’ll be the greatest reward for everyone enduring YbriAna.

Manga the Week of 7/24/19
SEAN: It’s too hot to be outside. Stay indoors and read manga.
ASH: That is a really good idea.
SEAN: Dark Horse gives us the third volume of Eromanga-sensei.
J-Novel Club has a quartet of releases, including the final volume of If It’s For My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord, which will tell us once and for all if it’s Bunny Dropping us or not. (The cover says yes, the blurb implies no.) We also get Amagi Brilliant Park 6, I Shall Survive Using Potions! 3, and Lazy Dungeon Master 6.
ASH: “Bunny Dropping” is such an evocative turn of phrase.
ANNA: I know that Bunny Dropping is something I wish to avoid.
SEAN: Kodansha, in print, has Gleipnir 3, I’m Standing on a Million Lives 2, Love in Focus 3, The Seven Deadly Sins 33, To Your Eternity 10, Waiting for Spring 11, and Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches 19-20, which is at the “we don’t publish sales numbers but it’s down to twice a year and omnibuses? Yikes” stage.
MICHELLE: Love in Focus has been pretty cute and I look forward to its third and final volume. It’s been a while since I’ve read any Waiting for Spring, too.
ASH: I agree, Love in Focus has been been pretty cute and enjoyable so far. And yikes indeed in regards to Yamada-kun, et al. I really got a kick out of it initially, but the series unfortunately couldn’t seem to sustain itself after so many restarts. To Your Eternity, however, remains astonishingly good (and frequently devastating).
SEAN: Kodansha, digitally, debuts The Great Cleric (Seija Musou), which is based on a light novel and is about a salaryman who suddenly finds himself in another world. The sheer originality of the plot has won me over.
MICHELLE: *snerk*
SEAN: It also has has the 10th and final volume of Can You Just Die, My Darling?. There’s also Boarding School Juliet 11, Elegant Yokai Apartment Life 15, I’m Standing on a Million Lives 7, My Boyfriend in Orange 7, and Tokyo Alice 13.
Seven Seas wraps up The Bride and the Exorcist Knight with the fourth volume, and Citrus with the 10th. There’s also a pile of other titles. Our Dreams at Dusk: Shimanami Tasogare 2, Dreamin’ Sun 9, Toradora! light novel 6, A Certain Scientific Railgun: Astral Buddy 2, New Game! 6, and Sorcerous Stabber Orphen manga volume 2.
MICHELLE: I shamefully admit I still haven’t read the first volume of Our Dreams at Dusk.
ASH: The first volume was phenomenal; I’m really looking forward to the second and subsequent volumes.
ANNA: Just tried to order it for my library!
SEAN: Udon has the 10th Persona 3 manga.
ASH: I’ll admit, I enjoyed what I’ve played of the game more than I enjoyed what I’ve read of its manga adaptation.
SEAN: And Vertical gives us a 12th Witchcraft Works.
Viz has Children of the Whales 1-11 out digitally, as well as élDLIVE 10.
Yen has pretty much divided most of their releases into two weeks, this being the first. Almost all the debuts got shifted late, so we mostly get ongoing series next week.
Yen On has 86 ~ Eighty-Six~ Vol. 2, Defeating the Demon Lord’s a Cinch (If You’ve Got a Ringer) 4, Do You Love Your Mom (and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks)? 3, Goblin Slayer Side Story: Year One 2, and WorldEnd: What Do You Do at the End of the World? Are You Busy? Will You Save Us? 4. They’re also releasing A Sister’s All You Need 1-4, previously a print-only title, digitally.
On the manga end, there are two debuts that did not get shifted. One is a spinoff, Goblin Slayer: Brand New Day. The other has perhaps the most awkward manga title I’ve ever seen, as it’s called Divine Raiment Magical Girl Howling Moon. This runs in Bessatsu Dragon Age, and is by the writer of Trinity Seven and the artist of Highschool of the Dead and Triage X. Eeeeeeeee. Despite this, I will attempt to give it a try. It’s apparently about a morally ambiguous magical girl. NOT HELPING MY ANTICIPATION.
ASH: That is quite the title and premise.
ANNA: Huh.
SEAN: In addition to those, there’s Angels of Death 7, BTOOOM! 25 (second to last, please end please end please end), A Certain Magical Index’s 18th manga volume, DIVE!! 3, Nyankees 3, The Saga of Tanya the Evil’s 7th manga volume, and Teasing Master Takagi-san 5 (as well as 1-4 digitally, as this was also print-only till now).
ASH: Interesting to see something released in print before being release digitally these days!
SEAN: What manga cools you off?
