Alex isn’t sure when it happened, but Henry no longer exists solely in the margins of his own room. A pile of books on the desk became a bookshelf; the heavily embroidered duvet became a softer, understated spread; and of course, there are the pictures on his nightstand. Those are Alex’s favorite—all the people who love Henry by his bedside, there for him when he wakes even when Alex can’t be here in person. 

It’s moments like this that Alex cherishes most. Henry is the early riser of the relationship, so lazy mornings aren’t as common as Alex wishes they could be. He loves Henry bringing him a coffee, loves that it’s always exactly right, but the morning moves slower without caffeine. The light shines lazily through the curtains, the sun not yet high enough to reach the bed. 

Alex fumbles for his glasses on the nightstand. He loves the little details of morning-Henry; he doesn’t want to miss a single one of them. 

He’s softer around the edges in sleep, like the shit they’ve gone through can’t touch him in this haven they’ve made. Nothing matters outside that door, or this bed, even. The thought brings out a protective urge in Alex, one that drives him closer to Henry, who sleeps facing Alex. 

With achingly deliberate hands, Alex reaches for Henry’s hair, downright golden with the sunlight bleeding into the room. It casts soft shadows, blurring the world at the edges. Everything is gentle here, just as they deserve. 

Henry shifts in sleep, moving Alex’s hand from where it rests. The movement is just enough to wake Henry, whose eyes find Alex the moment they open. A smile dawns on his face, all sleepiness and morning light, and the room is brighter now. 

Alex is reminded of exactly how ruined he is for anyone else. 

Love beyond what Alex ever thought possible fills his chest as Henry blinks away the sleep and reaches for him, a crease from the pillow pressed into the corner of his grin. 

“Good morning.” Henry’s voice is deeper, rougher around the edges. The imperfection makes him just a bit more human, a bit more perfect in the untraditional sense. 

“Morning, baby,” Alex says, delighting in the way Henry looks more alert after the pet name. It leaves Alex helpless to do anything but lean in and kiss him, uncaring of the morning breath or the lazy way their mouths move together. Not every kiss has to be perfect, and that very fact makes the imperfect ones Alex’s favorite. They have so much time—their whole lives—to kiss sloppily, to have bad breath, to clack teeth or nudge noses. 

A soft hum against his lips makes Alex stop, reclining only so far that Henry’s face comes back into focus.

 Henry gazes at him, fond amusement running rampant in those baby blues, and asks in a voice that’s too smug for Alex’s liking, “Anything on the agenda for today?”

There’s a challenge there, and on another day where Alex hadn’t been staring at the love of his life sleeping for an embarrassing amount of time, he might’ve deflected—or perhaps he could’ve played into it just enough to get Henry to make the first move. 

But as it is, Alex has spent the morning watching Henry, finding comfort in the steady lift of his chest and the way the light lays itself on him when he’s content in sleep, memorizing every detail for the days they wake up on opposite sides of the ocean. They aren’t as frequent since there’s nothing left to hide, but the bed always feels empty once you sleep in it with someone you love, like it’ll never quite be full without them. 

“For today?” Alex muses, closing the space between himself and Henry. “I was thinking something like this.” He presses a kiss to Henry’s forehead. “This.” His cheek. “And a whole lot of this…” He trails off, losing himself in the bliss of Henry’s lips. 

“Solid plan,” Henry pants against his lips. “How long did it take you to come up with that one?” 

Alex pinches Henry’s arm for the snark. “Twenty minutes ago.” 

Only when Henry stills does Alex realize what he let slip. 

A horribly gleeful smile cracks Henry’s lips. “Twenty minutes, huh? What were you doing for all that time?” 

“Trying to go back to sleep, you blanket hog.” To prove his point, Alex tugs the duvet over to his side, pulling Henry with it. 

“And I suppose that’s why you put on your glasses?” Henry counters. 

“Asshole.” 

“Sap.” 

That breaks what little self-control Alex has. Next thing he knows he’s on top of Henry, kissing him into the mattress. 

“Was that supposed to convince me of something?” Henry squints when they part, his nose wrinkling just so. It’s unbearably adorable. 

“I love you.” 

“I know.”

Alex presses Henry a bit harder into the bed. “You did not just Han Solo me.” 

“I love you too,” Henry reassures him, the humor in his voice less frustrating and more earnest. 

Alex rolls off of him, flopping onto the same pillow mere inches away. Henry turns and follows. 

“I like watching you sleep,” Alex confesses, then frowns. “God, that makes me sound like a stalker.” 

“You did show up here in the middle of the night and demand to be let in.” 

“Hush.” Alex shoves him playfully before clearing his throat. “I mean, you look so peaceful. And beautiful. It’s like I can’t look away. And I don’t want to.” 

Henry—the writer, the wordsmith—is left speechless, a shy blush tinting his cheeks as he pulls Alex back for yet another kiss. Alex loves that he can do that for him, make him that happy. 

After, Alex looks around the room once more, where the man he loves is slowly creeping out of the margins. He lingers on each sign of Henry, how he chooses to define himself: journals, books, and pictures. Each of them shouts, I’m here. This is what I love. This is what defines me. And Alex couldn’t be more proud.

Slightly different WIP Wednesday for me, mainly to take stock of what I’ve got (and teasing what’s coming!). Below is the list of WIPs, and a percentage vs word count of where I feel I’m at:

1000 year anniversary - 30-ish%? I need to figure out the final scene, since this is a bordering on light comedy, and I know how we lead up there, but I don’t know the actual emotional payoff. Better figure that out Mind read sequel - 5% It’s a fic that didn’t exist until a comment made me go “ohhhhh that would be good”, and while I know what I want to do, I have written none of it Anastasia AU- 10% SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS, and I will end up posting it in chapters, but I was bouncing all over the place to begin, so no scenes are done Ageswitch - 20% Don’t want to shortchange this one and while there’s over 2k written, I got a lot more to go Couple competition - ....50%? 40%? 60? Somewhere hovering around there. This was originally super light and funny and got real angsty, real quick, so I’m just balancing out what the modern day piece of that looks like PR/TOG Cowrite - 100%! In editing!  Booker & team piece - 60% which surprised me because I thought this thing was going to be huge, but almost two full scenes are done and the others are well underway Mini Bang - 15% done, but I need to figure out some character dynamics a little more to make it make sense. Once the RNM Big Bangs are done, this becomes my daily focus since it’s due around the same time

Current Cowrite - I’m going to be super optimistic and say 55% because Alex finally understands he has feelings Next Cowrite - 1% It’s got a plot!  S3 Michael Hopes - 60% I’m super tempted to post this one chaptered. It’s essentially my Malex oriented ‘What I want out of S3′ and that’s very tempting to put up as a three parter, so there is a chance that in the next few weeks, the first part will be going up Big Bang #1 (S) - Completed! With the beta!  Big Bang #2 (P) - 60% and working on this daily to put 1k on it when I can (except next week when I lose progress when I go house sit). Originally was intended to be 30k, that number is definitely obsolete Guerenti - 100% complete! I’m holding onto this one for a RNM Week prompt, so November? Lots of time for edits.

Red, White, Royal Blue Future Fic - 40% complete (this one is fully plotted, but Henry is still overseas, I def neglect this one WAY too much)

William “Bill” Henry Turner, 79, of Reidville, SC, died Sunday, April 21, 2019, at Richard Campbell Veteran’s Home in Anderson, SC. Born May 31, 1939, in Spartanburg County, SC, he as the son of the late Loyd Winston Turner and Veria Christine Wylie Turner. A U. S. Army veteran, First Sergeant Turner served in the Vietnam War and retired after 26 years of service. He was devoted to his Lord, family, friends, and the U. S. Military. His main focus was being the catalyst for maintaining a close bond within his family. He was of the Lutheran faith and attended Lamb of God Lutheran Church. Now That Canada Has Legalized Cannabis, Celebrate at ICBC Vancouver

With the passage of the Senate bill C-45 on June 19, Canada officially legalized marijuana.

Canada is the second country to make such a move. Uruguay legalized it in 2013.

“Our plan to legalize & regulate marijuana just passed the Senate,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted.

The margin in favor was an overwhelming 52 to 29, with two abstentions. The bill gives provinces eight to 12 weeks to begin selling marijuana commercially. Originally, the plan was to launch on July 1, but the legislation forced a delay.

ICBC Vancouver at Sheraton Wall Centre is scheduled for June 24-25.

It’s the perfect time to attend an event in Canada’s cannabis capitol, Vancouver, affectionately known as Vansterdam. The International Cannabis Business Conference (ICBC) there is scheduled for June 24-25. It’s not too late to register and book flights and hotel reservations at Sheraton Wall Centre.

“The ICBC is fortunate that our Vancouver event is occurring just five days after the first G7 nation on Earth legalized,” says Alex Rogers, ICBC founder and CEO.

Why Vancouver over Toronto as a choice of location? “Toronto is clearly the Canadian cannabis financial capital,” Rogers explains. “But Vancouver is the cannabis capital of Canada. Regardless of what happens in the future with cannabis and the public policies and regulations around it, British Columbia and Vancouver will always be a global leader in the cannabis industry.”

ICBC Vancouver kicks off with a VIP party on June 24. The next day, a full slate of speakers and panelists will engage the attendees. Monday night’s afterparty will feature Bay Area rapper Del the Funky Homosapien.

ALEX ROGERS: “The ICBC is fortunate that our Vancouver event is occurring just five days after the first G7 nation on Earth legalized.”

ICBC regular Henry Rollins will deliver the keynote speech on July 25 at 9 am. “I think that legalization of cannabis anywhere is a political decision,” Rollins tells Freedom Leaf. “It will change things in any country. It’s part of this changing century. Those who are selling legally are part of a changing culture.”

“All eyes will be on Canada,” writes ICBC staffer Anthony Johnson, “but it’s clear that we’re ending cannabis prohibition step by step and, eventually, nation by nation. Canadians are leading the way.”

The next ICBC events will be held in Portland, OR (Sept. 27-28), San Francisco (Feb. 7-8, 2019) and Berlin (Mar. 31-Apr. 2, 2019).
