✘ my muse finding out they are infected and telling yours.

Henry was silent, a rage began to swell deep inside. He heard the words, but refused to piece them together in order for them to make sense. There was a mounting fury bottling itself up, brewing just beneath the surface, and waiting to rear its ugly head at any given moment. He didn’t want to listen. The bite on her neck glared at him, mocking him. They couldn’t even stave off the infection due to its location. She was holding about the tenth gauze pad to her neck because it just wouldn’t stop bleeding. She’s pleading with him, telling him she’s sorry, but also having the audacity to tell him that she had done the right thing by going to the aid of that new group staying out in the woods. Well, what about him and Sam? How were they supposed to go on without her? Typical Flora never thinking before thrusting herself into danger.
He’s quiet still, pacing around the room. A coherent thought couldn’t even form itself in his mind. He’s ready to say fuck it and run off. He doesn’t want to deal with something this heavy, but he knows if he takes off, he’ll never come back and he’ll regret it for the rest of his life. “So, this is what you get? This is what you get for helping people, huh?” there was another bout of silence that hung between them, only Sam’s muffled sobs filled the room. “This is what you fucking get?!” his voice boomed, echoing off the walls. “Henry, stop!” Sam finally spoke. “No, I’m not gonna stop, Sam. Where the fuck were you when this was all happening?” he suddenly turned his fury on the youngest Blume who looked at him in bewilderment. “Me?!”
The two began hashing it out, a weakening Flora stuck in the middle of them. She was already looking pale, dark circles under eyes, and the infection on her neck was spreading. The bickering only came to an end when she slammed a hand down on the table. They fell silent, looking down at Flora slumped on one of the metal stools. “You two are really going to stand there and scream at each other while I’m sitting here dying?” Henry stared at Sam for a few moments before taking a deep breath, allowing the tension to ease from his rigid frame. He lowered himself to Flora’s level, taking her hand. “Flora, we’re gonna have to get you out of here. If anyone finds out… I don’t know how they’ll react, we don’t know any of them.”
Awhile later they were wrapping Flora’s wound as best they could, covering it with a scarf, and sticking her in a down jacket. Part of him thinking, morbidly, they were lucky they moved to a cooler climate and weren’t going to look too suspicious trying to get out of the camp. They managed to clear the gates without too many questions and were half way towards their destination when Flora’s legs gave out and Henry had to carry her the rest of the way. Her body felt like it was on fire, her breathing ragged, and by the time they got towards the lake she was coughing up blood. He set her up on one of the benches getting as comfortable as possible.
“Henry,”“Don’t talk. You’re gonna tire yourself out.” he tried giving her a sip of water, but was met with another coughing fit and a spattering of blood.“You have to take care of Sam. She doesn’t have anybody.”“Flora…” “It’s not her fault. Don’t blame her. Promise you won’t blame her.”“I’m… I’m not going to blame her. And it’s not like I was gonna just take her back to camp and leave her there. I’ll take care of her, I promise. Don’t be worrying up to the very last second.” that seemed to ease her mind for the moment. Henry placed a hand on her cheek and leaned in to give her a kiss, swallowing down the lump in his throat. “I love you, Flora.” “I love you too.”
Eventually, Henry allowed Sam to have some time with Flora. The gun he’d brought sat heavy on his belt and now he was thinking that he wasn’t even sure if he was going to be able to go through with it. Deep down he knew he had to. Allowing her to come back as one of those things would haunt he (and Sam) forever. He figured he’d wait to the very last second, making sure Sam was nowhere in sight before he did it. They could tell everyone back at camp that they were ambushed, there was nothing they could do, and Flora was lost. No one really knew the three of them that well and so they wouldn’t ever question it.
