Dead by Daylight’s Impact on One Streamer
Dead by Daylight by Behaviour Interactive is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror survival game which has four survivors versus one killer. This game has 12.5 million followers on Twitch. Twitch is a streaming platform for gamers to stream games they play to audiences from around the world. Many gamers stream Dead by Daylight and have even made it their go to stream game. HenRockCity is a Dead by Daylight streamer on Twitch with four thousand followers that streams this game every day.
Q: How long would you say you have been playing Dead by Daylight? Why have you stayed with it as long as you have?
A: I have been playing Dead by Daylight since the week it came out on computer, which is a little over six and a half years. I have stayed as long as I have playing Dead by Daylight because I love playing Survivor and being in chase. I have never played a game like this before, so it was very unique and special to me. I also love that they continue to add so much content and amazing licensed killers.
Q: Why has Dead by Daylight become such a big part of your streaming career?
A: I just flat out fell in love with the game and thought that it would be such a great game to stream. I was so hooked and was having so much fun that I decided to just make it a big part of my streams. The long chases, helping teammates from any rough situation they are in and also making tons of new friends in the matches that I solo queue in. The connection you make with people in a game like that is just a special feeling. The Dead by Daylight community has too much negativity & toxicity behind it, I like to be the more positive side of that and always remind people that it’s just a game at the end of the day and always try your best to just have fun with it!
Q: Have you played both Survivor and Killer? If so, which one do you prefer?
A: I have played both! but I feel like as a streamer, it’s so much easier to play survivor since you have some down time to focus on chat and hangout with the community more. I don’t really enjoy killer much, it’s fun but it really makes it hard to play as a streamer because all your focus has to go into finding 4 survivors that you are hunting down to kill. So taking your eyes off the screen to briefly look at chat, you might end up losing the person you are going after.
Q: Dead by Daylight has grown very popular in the seven years it has existed, between thousands of concurrent players and partnerships with major companies within the horror genre. Why do you think that is?
A: The four survivors versus one killer aspect of the game is unique and not many games out there are like this. Some have tried and had some levels of success like Friday the 13th and Video Horror Society, but the numbers do not come close to Dead by Daylight. The licensed killers and survivors like Freddy, Michael Myers, Nemesis, Wesker from Resident Evil and Demogorgon from Stranger Things really elevated this game’s player base. I truly believe that has been the key factor in why the game has such massive success.
Q: Is there anything you would change about the game?
A: I wish the developers would really consider how to deal with the slugging and tunneling issue the game has at the moment. I know it’s not something that is easy to fix but if I was able to change anything about it, that would be it.
Q: I know you mentioned slugging and camping being something you would change about the game, could you explain that?
A: Slugging in Dead by Daylight is a term the players use when the killer downs everyone and leaves them on the ground to bleed out and die instead of playing the way it was meant to be played which is hook a survivor once you down them and move on to the next one. Camping is when the killer stays by the hooked survivor and does not leave them at all. They will just wait for that survivor to just die on hook and not chase anyone else. If someone attempted to go in for the save, some killers will “tunnel” focus down that one survivor over and over until they die.
Q: Do you think that you will continue to play Dead by Daylight in the future? What partnerships do you hope Dead by Daylight will build going forward?
A: I definitely will continue to keep playing Dead by Daylight! Even with its issues, I still love the game very much and I always find it tons of fun. I would love to see them partner with toy companies like Nendoroid or companies similar to that. I believe they planned to release Funko Pops, but something happened with that deal, and it was cancelled.
Q: Thank you so much for your time. Any last thoughts you’d like to share?
A: You are so welcome! Thank you for this amazing interview. I had a great time answering your incredible questions. I don’t have anything else to add, this was fun!
