Floofty’s ending photo shows them with a prosthetic leg, meaning that missing body parts regrown with bugsnax go away when the snakification wears off. So even if things initially worked out with the plan to cut off their head, they’d need to stay snakified to stay alive.

I keep going back and forth on what could cause Filbo’s immunity in the finale from a narrative standpoint. It could be that Filbo simply has the determination to overpower the bugsnax’s temptation due to his personality (Honestly he seems pretty hands-off to bugsnax, iirc the only time he asks the player for snaks is the Strabby in the tutorial, which I don’t think is comparable to a vice like other snak gathering missions since he was just hungry.) or maybe either the required story beats of bringing the grumpuses back to town/the final confrontation with liz could have acted like the side-quests do for the other characters.

I’m fairly certain that, if given more time, Gramble could have fully trained even the larger Bugsnax, I feel like alot of people noticed Sprout being loyal through the finale but also the trip-shot section uses a device powered by a Kweeble treadmill. Assuming these are the ones Gramble was training in Simmering Springs and aren’t part of the hoarde then that would mean that the factor that stopped Sprout from turning wasn’t being in a hamster ball or being too young, it was love (maybe)

In his interview Cromdo explained he was intending to hijack the team’s boat to escape himself before finding out that it’s missing and blaming Liz. Iirc the boat’s dissapearance is never explained? 

Speaking of boats, Floofty’s makeshift lab in Boiling Bay is like, literally inches away from the Triplicate Space entrance. Two of that place’s biggest lore reveals involve Triffany’s Grandma and Snorpy’s conspiracy theories. Floofty just barely missed bringing huge revelations for their best friend and sibling (...or did they? the 100% post-credits dialouge brings up the idea of some of the grumpuses knowing the secrets of snaktooth but keeping quiet to be smart. It’s definitely speculation bait, but this is speculation anyway so)

Where does the skeleton hand that Triffany waves around come from? Like iirc she always has it on her, even when she’s away from archeology stuff. Is it from one of the Snaktooth Grumpus skeletons or did she bring it from home?

Triffany mentions Pinkle being an important crop for the stone grumpuses in her Flavour Falls sidequest, implying that the design of a pickle jar existed since what i assume is the equivilant of the stone age and that bugsnax can just look like future stuff. But in her Frosted Peak sidequest she mentions that the Pinkle reskin Aggroll was only reported recently (or maybe that was other flavour text?) which implies that bugsnax can’t look like future stuff. (if it turns out cavement *did* know how to pickle cucumbers and i’m just reaching, fair.).

In the finale, Eggabelle was able to fuse with monster Liz. Unless the rules are differant for joining and becoming a queen, that makes her the fourth known character to be a suitable bugsnax queen

Monster Liz being able to control bugsnax might be the reason why bugsnax avoid capture while they canonically want to be eaten. (I don’t buy into the theory that the snax are avoiding the player character due to their allergy because A: If they were only avoiding the player then Filbo wouldn’t have needed help to catch a Strabbu and B: I think the snax are too stupid to be that coordinated)

Chandlo and Snorpy both live in Sugarpine Woods at the start of the game. Chandlo doesn’t have his own house like Snorpy, but is shown to be skilled at building houses, so I assume he built Snorpy his log cabin along with other things like the watch tower and hot tub. I’d say this is Chaldo prioritising Snorpy over himself but he also probably built the basketball court just for him, so he probably just shares a bed with Snorpy

How did Wambus grow the special sauce he gives the player in the finale? Is it just an exotic sauce not found on snaktooth, or does it imply sauce plants can be cross-bred?

In Liz’s video letter to the player at the start of the game she mentions one of the player character’s articles on soylent grump, which based on it’s namesake is food made out of grumpuses. Beffica is an open fan of the Player Character’s journalism and would likely know about soylent grump, it’s possible this put the thought of cannibal conspiracy in her head and could explin why she so quickly jumped to assuming Floofty was a cannibal besides “Beffica mean”.

It’s also possible that Beffica’s admiration of the Player Character is what lead Liz to invite them specifically as the expedition’s journalist. Since the video message Liz sends takes place after the arrival to Snaktooth which seems to take place with most other Grumpuses aside from the player character and also gives a timeframe for the eixisting team to mingle, when Beffica could put the Player Character on Liz’s radar.

Might be me being dumb here but how did Shelda join the expedition? Like she says it was a raffle in the main game, then the dlc has her sidemouthing that it wasn’t actually a raffle. I honestly have no leads on how she joined, and even less on why she would want to hide how she joined. Is this just a retcon? and if it is what about the older explination made the writers want to retcon it?

I made at least one for each of the other 12 chars so i gotta complete the circle and do one for wiggle but i don’t care for wiggle so i’ll just ask if she ever got Grapeskeeto bites from sleeping out in the open on the Simmering Springs beach. and if so then good.

Peppepope and her relationship with the crew

(Just a note, most of this will talk about her interactions with them as kid, since that's where a majority of her bond with them comes from)

🧡Wiggle🧡: Her little star. She definitely gets a lot from her mother, like her fur, outgoing personality, love for fashion. But she doesn't quite have the voice talent you would expect from Wiggle Wigglebottom's child, and sometimes she feels like her mother's tastes are a bit more...Refined, so to say. Wiggle loves glamor and pizzazz, but Peppy prefers to stick with whatevers fun to her, even if she gets a bit dirty and silly in the process.

💖Gramble💖: While she may play more with Wiggle, she usually goes to her dad when she needs feeling sick or sad. But while she loves the sweaters he makes, and the heart shaped cookies he bakes, and all the soups he makes with love when she's sick, sometimes he just gets a little smothering. He's forced hugs on her so many times as a kid that she hates them now, and he has a bit of a problem with coddling her. But she'll always appreciate his more simpler way of life over having to deal with being the child of a popstar.

🤎Shelda🤎: Just basically her grandma. Wiggle especially would drag her to Shelda's house a lot, despite Peppepope being way too energetic to sit down and listen to an old lady talk to her mom about adult life problems. She didn't hate it though, and Shelda was always sweet to her so she liked her enough. Loved the all the crystals and herbs she had, and cherishes a pretty pink crystal she was given when she was 6.

❤Cromdo❤: Cromdo was the opposite situation than Shelda, in that he was always dropping in unannounced with fun stories and little gifts for Peppy, getting the already hard to control child even more rowdy. Sometimes he'd talk about some of his less-than-legal rendezvous, much to the disapproval of her parents.

💜Beffica💜: Don't tell the others this, but Beffica is probably her favorite, even if only because she knew her way around makeup and making friendship bracelets the best. She loved having an extra ear to gossip to that wasn't her mom, because that meant that anytime she mentioned she got in a fight, the response would be laughter and not a lecture. She also liked going through her scrapbook whenever she got the chance, seeing how all the adults she grew up around looked before she was born, even though it was only a couple years.

💔Floofty💔: Unfortunately Floofty's cold demeanor and role as the weird mad scientist is having it's biggest repercussion yet– the child is afraid of them. They don't mean to scare her, but they still can't help but give off this feeling that they may not be as warm and welcoming as anybody else (and honestly they probably have resting bitch face). They also just struggle with kids in general. While their condescending tone with adults doesn't bother them as much ("they're adults, they should act like them"), they have trouble with finding that middle ground of teaching younger kids about facts and correcting them without treating them younger than they are, since they genuinely don't want to do that. Peppepope is proof of why they decided to teach college first.

💚Triffany💚: Funny aunt :). Used to be scared of her because of her obsession with bones and death until she decided she wanted to be a super brave Big Kid™️ and face Triffany without having to hold Gramble's hand. And once she did she realized she liked her a lot! She told lots of groan-worthy yet fun puns and was always so sweet and happy to see her. She always felt a little bad when she'd fall asleep when she'd start talking about history but she can't help it! She's an energetic kid and she can barely keep her eyes open in history class as is.

💙Wambus💙: Another adult she was afraid of, though a little less so. It's easy to get intimidated by a tall, deep voiced and serious guy like Wambus, but if her dad can tease and roast him and get off relatively scot free, then she should be fine. Wambus himself can be a little awkward around kids, not really knowing what to do. And unfortunately, once Peppy's short-lived fear was over she would not leave him alone. She always wanted chocolate sauce, and then she wanted a piggy back ride, and then she wanted to know what this thing was, and then what that thing was. Her ideas for things she wanted to do was never-ending, much to his dismay.

💙Filbo💙: Funny guy who falls over a lot. She liked having him around because he was always so funny, even unintentionally. Filbo also doesn't really know what to do around kids, but whatever the heck he was doing was enough, and she didn't hate him so that was a win in his book.

💚Chandlo💚: Favorite babysitter, hands down. Was always willing to play with her, kept her safe, was easy to talk to even when she was having a rough day, and was always willing to give her space when she needed it.

💛Snorpy💛: NOT one of her favorite babysitters lol. A careless kid like her always got herself into danger (at least in his eyes), so to her he was always just the adult who was overreacting and stopping her from having fun. Thought his inventions were the coolest though, and always wanted to hear about them.

🤍Eggabell🤍: Kinda the same as Snorpy, but she always got a bandaid and a treat so it was ok.

🖤Lizbert🖤: FINALLY someone who shared her love for adventure. Would always hear about her stories exploring caves and mountains (and whatever it is she explores, idk lol). Loved her and thought she was the coolest. Wanted to be exactly like her when she got older, and was a little hurt and confused when Liz didn't feel the same way.

whats budelyn's relationships with the snaxburg residents like <:]]

Filbo • Very close friends. Budelyn loves him dearly, his optimism and reassurance are a great comfort to them on bad days. They do their best to make Filbo feel appreciated.

Wambus • They were a bit intimidated by Wambus at first, but warmed up pretty quick. Budelyn likes talking to him and asking a lot of questions about gardening and plants. They also get excited when they can bring back a new sauce for Wambus to grow in the garden.

Beffica • At first Budelyn was wary of Beffica since she was so mean to Filbo when they first met. But after sharing some of their pictures from exploring and chatting a little bit about their job, Bud opened up a bit more. They actually started to tell her about their mother and stories they hear about her cases.

Gramble • Adopts him as their brother by the end of his sidequests. Budelyn loves spending time with him and will hang out at the barn to talk and sketch out bugsnax for their notes. Also gives a few pictures to Gramble, including one of him and Sprout.

Wiggle • Budelyn enjoys her company and likes to talk about and compare music genres. Buddy's dad always sang various sea shanties and sailing songs so that's had a strong influence on their taste in music.

Triffany • Adores her and loves listening to Triffany talk about history. Budelyn is a huge nerd and loves learning about different cultures; history, customs, and myths, myths being their biggest interest. Budelyn has also slipped up and called her Aunt Triffany, which she found very sweet.

Cromdo • These two are a bit odd. Cromdo noticed Budelyn hat right away, which brought up old memories of Apricot. He assumed Aprilcot was someone Budelyn just idolized, and didn't connect the dots that they're her kid. So Buddy gets to hear stories about their mother heavily skewed by Cromdo's perspective, which they find funny. Also wants to see how long it takes before he figures out Aprilcot's their mom.

Chandlo • Good friends. Budelyn isn't a big fan of sports, but likes to shoot hoops with Chandlo and chat about dumb psuedo? philosophical things. He also is quick to pick up when Buddy's getting anxious/overwhelmed. They tried declining his help at first since he has Snorpy to worry about, but he kept offering to help whenever they needed it.

Snorpy • Very close friends and eventually brother in-law Post-Snaktooth. Budelyn likes talking with him about their thoughts on Bugsnax and theories on them, though they do try to steer away from talking too much about the Grumpinati. Snorpy is also the one Budelyn goes to when they start to develop a crush on Floofty.

Shelda • Didn't start off too great. Budelyn didn't like Shelda all that much and got a bit confused with the metaphors. But that opinion changed some when Shelda dropped the act and was honest and straightforward with them. While on Brokentooth, Budelyn started to care about her a lot more and started to talk a lot more with her and asked about Mother Naturae and Shelda's experiences.

Floofty • Complicated and probably changes the most. Budelyn was very interested in learning about Floofty's work and enjoyed their darker sense of humor, but any time they were arrogant and/or condescending Buddy would get snarky/sarcastic and mess with them a bit (mostly just moving their equipment around and being annoying.) Budelyn also started to hide small gifts after a while, like if Floofty asked for a photo of bugsnax doing something, Buddy would hide it somewhere Floofty would find it quickly. While on Brokentooth the two opened up more and spent a lot more time with them. During the last party after being dragged to dance it hits Floofty like a truck that they fell hard for Budelyn.

Eggabell • Budelyn tries to make it up the mountain occasionally to keep Egg company from time to time. They also ended up staying with her right after Floofty's experiment was stopped, Buddy ran out of town after Floofty said some especially cruel to them and collapsed on Frosted Peak.

Bonus, Clumby • Budelyn respects her, but also is very intimated by her. And Clumby, in her own way, does her best to help Budelyn improve as a means to make it up to Aprilcot.

Surprise Egg 4/13: Congrats

Filbo had just gotten the fire going in the pit for the evening when he glanced up to see Buddy wondering into town. Always happy to see them, he straightened to smile at them as they approached.

“Hey Buddy, how’s it going?”

“Filbo!” Their eyes sparkled with excitement, a wonderful sight after how exhausted they’d been lately. “You’ll neverguess what just happened.”

“You found out where Liz is?” Filbo almost didn’t dare hope for such a thing but if anyone could find her it was Buddy so… maybe.

“Oh uh… no, not yet. I will soon though, I promise.” Yeah, definitely too much to hope for. “But I did find something very cool. Or more like it found me. I’ll show you.” They walked over and sat down on the log bench by the fire.

Filbo sat next to them, close enough that he could see their camera’s screen as they lifted it from where it hung around their neck. It booted back up in seconds, allowing them to navigate to their recently taken photos.

“What is that?” Just a photo of it made Filbo’s fur prickle with unease. It was some kind of bugsnax? But grumpus shaped. And it might’ve just been the angle the photo was taken from but it looked big too.

Buddy flipped back through more, including ones that showed it did indeed have large googly looking eyes like bugsnax. “I’ve decided to call it Snaxsquatch because it’s like Grumpsquatch but a bugsnax. I also got a recording of what it sounds like. Wanna hear?”

Not really but Buddy was clearly very excited about this for some reason and it was nice seeing them happy so… “I guess.”

With a far too excited grin, they switched their camera back off and pulled out their tape recorder. After rewinding it a bit, the pressed play.

“Hello. Can you understand me?” There was a brief pause filled with the sound of Buddy’s camera snapping a few photos before their recorded voice continued. “I’m a journalist and I’m here to do a story on bugsnax. If you can understand me, I’d like a…”

A wet growl interrupted them, making Filbo flinch. Knowing something that could growl like that was on the island somewhere was the opposite of a cool find. And… and that thing had been right near Buddy, close enough that they’d talked to it. Did their bravery know no bounds?

Apparently so as their recorded voice continued without hesitation and full of even more excitement. “Growling works. How about a long growl for ‘no’ and short a one for ‘yes’?”

A short growl answered Buddy followed by an unidentifiable sound. Which was were Buddy stopped the recording. “That’s where it sank into the ground. And when I looked there wasn’t any trace of it, not even a hole for it to have sunk into. So I have no idea where it went or is now. But cool, right? I’m sure it’s the thing Beffica and Gramble saw that night when the spooky message appeared on the town sign, meaning it wasn’t aliens after all.”

“Uh… I don’t know about cool but it’s certainly scary. How much of a threat to Snaxburg do you think it might be?”

“Not at all. It’s friendly.” For how scary it looked and sounded, their nonchalant confidence was surprising even for them.

“How do you know?”

They slipped their recorder back into their back pack’s side pocket as they answered. “I was that close to it because it was dragging me back to town after I passed out in the Sizzling Sands. It even pulled down Shelda’s lean-to to transport me on.”

“Whoa, what? You passed out! Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fine. I just…” They trailed off as a look of dawning realization came over their face. “Huh? I’m not sure how I forgot about that but uh…” They looked around for a couple seconds before turning back to look at him again. “I gotta talk to you in private.” All excitement was gone from their voice now, replaced by a chilling seriousness.

“About what?” What could be more important than the fact they’d apparently passed out in the middle of a hot desert and had to be dragged back by a monster? And why didn’t they seem to care?

“Just… something, okay? Now let’s…” They cut off as they stood up, teetering for a moment before he shot up to steady them. They leaned on him slightly as they lifted a paw to press to their forehead. It only lasted a few seconds but it was long enough to almost give Filbo a heart attack.

“Oof, that was… ugh,” they said as they pushed off him to stand under their own weight again. Before Filbo could ask him if they were okay though…

“Whoa Bestie, you okay?” Beffica said as she wondered into the campfire circle.

“Yeah. Don’t worry about me.” They lifted a paw in a weak dismissive gesture towards her.

“You should probably go lie down.” Unsure of what else he could do, Filbo stood ready to steady them again if they needed it. Oh, if only Eggabell were here.

It hadn’t been a commotion really but Cromdo had stepped closer too, looking maybe kind of worried. At that moment, Chandlo wondered in with a “What’s going on? Why’s everyone here look so worried?”

Buddy frowned at him before speaking. “I need to talk to Filbo about something.” They took Filbo’s paw and started leading him back towards the hut the two of them now shared.

As soon as they were in the hut with the door closed, Buddy pulled off their back pack and lowered it to the floor with a grateful sounding sigh. They then unzipped it and took out their camera’s case, placing that on the table before carefully pulling their camera off over their head and into it. They put that back safely in their pack before zipping it up once more. It was a familiar routine of theirs, one that Filbo had seen many times since Buddy had moved in but they did it with much more exaggerated care this time as if they were so exhausted, they could barely move.

“You okay?” Filbo asked as they finally turned to look at him. They’d been acting clearly unwell for a while now but this was different and worse. … If only Eggabell were here, she’d know how to fix it.

They looked at him in silent thought, one paw on the table as they leaned slightly onto it. After several seconds of this they pushed off and walked over to him still standing by the door and… hugged him. They pressed into him with a slight, exhausted sounding purr. “I missed you.”

He hugged them back of course, though he couldn’t quite muster up a purr himself right now. “Uh… I missed you too but… you weren’t gone that long.” They even still been here this morning when Filbo woke up, something that was honestly pretty rare with how busy they were.

“I know. But something happened and… it made me miss you.” That was strange but… okay.

Unsure what to say to that, Filbo just held them for however long they wanted to be held for. Which wasn’t long as they soon gave him one more tight squeeze before pulling back.

They stepped all the way back before speaking. “I finally found out why I’ve been so unwell lately. It’s kind of obvious now that I really think about it.”

“What is it?” And how seriouswas it?

“Um…” They looked away, lifting a paw to nervously rub the back of their neck. “You remember a few months ago when I was in heat and you helped me. And then you asked if I had any contraceptives and I didn’t but told you it would probably be fine anyway because having a hard time conceiving runs in my family? Well turns out it wasn’t fine after all. Whoops.”

“Wait! You mean you’re…” He cut off, unable to say it quite yet because how could they actually be carrying his egg? Yeah sure, it made sense given the whole heat thing and but still. That wasn’t at all news he was prepared for or had ever given any thought to possibly one day receiving or having to give to someone else. Kids were fine and all but never once had the thought occurred to him that he might someday have one of his own.

“I was pregnant but then uh… I laid the egg which is how I found out about it. I passed out afterwards. And that’s when the Snaxsquatch brought me back here.” They reached into their pouch where they’d taken to carrying Sprout. What they pulled out though was undoubtedly a grumpus egg. The faded splotches of colour on it were burnt orange and light blue, confirming its parentage. They tried to hand to Filbo.

He flinched, pulling his paws in close to this chest. “Why are you giving it to me?” Given his track record he should be the last one handling something as important and delicate as an egg.

“Just… because. I need sleep. You can tell the others about it while I take a nap. Or I guess you could keep it a secret for now if you want to. But regardless, we’ll talk about what we’re going to do about it after I get some rest, okay? So just take it for now.” They pushed it towards him again.

He wanted to refuse but… they were clearly beyond exhausted and utterly unwell. The fact that they’d just given birth to the egg not long ago certainly explained why. They’d done it all alone out in the middle of the hot desert too, how awful and scary must that have been? And yet they didn’t complain, they never did about anything. So… trying not to grimace too hard, he accepted it from their paws.

“Thanks.” Then, without further word, they turned and walked over to the bed and collapsed face first onto it. Probably not even five seconds later they were snoring softly.

Never the most dexterous of grumpuses, Filbo’s paws were even more clumsy than usual due to being like strawberries. So very carefully, before he could drop the egg or some potential disaster could befall him and it, he put it into his own pouch. Unlike some he preferred not to carry things in there but… it was meant for carrying eggs and the grumplings that hatched out of them so this was how it should be. … Still felt weird though.

Shaking it off, he went over to the bed to check on Buddy. … Yep, they were out like a light and they certainly deserved and needed the rest. So… with a deep breath he turned and left the hut.

As he walked back towards the campfire, he tried not think about tripping and crushing the egg in his pouch. Would that even crush it though? Eggs were supposed to be pretty sturdy, right? But how sturdy? This was his first time seeing one up close in real life so he had no idea. … And it was his! Oh gosh, he wasn’t ready for this. How was he supposed to…

“Filbo!”

He flinched and looked up at Beffica. She was still standing by the campfire with an air of having been waiting for him to return. Chandlo was with her and Cromdo had perked up from his stand again.

“What’s wrong with Buddy?” she continued. … She was concerned, it was written in her face and in her tone.

“Come on dawg, out with it,” Chandlo said before the silence could stretch for long. “What’s wrong with them? They going to be okay?”

“Oh uh… they’re sleeping. I think they’re going to be okay… well as okay as they can be… maybe. I don’t know.” Ugh, he was doing an awful job at putting anyone at ease but he was worried about Buddy and the egg that had quite literally seemed to have come out of nowhere and… it made it hard to think. He took a couple deep breaths and put on not a smile but a hopefully less freaked out expression because panicking about it wasn’t going to make it better. “The reason they’re so exhausted is because they uh… gave birth to an egg earlier today.”

That was met with surprised silence for several seconds before Chandlo broke it. “You mean they’ve been carrying an egg this whole time? Why didn’t you guys tell anyone?”

“We didn’t know.”

Beffica scoffed. “I thought at least one of you would have some kind of birth control and be smart enough to use it.”

“Well… we didn’t have any and it was kind of… urgent and they’d thought it’d be fine. And we’ve been careful sincethen.” Getting pregnant outside of heat was rare but not impossible so they’d done their best to avoid risking it as much as they could whenever they made love but apparently it hadn’t mattered anyway. “So we had no idea.”

She sighed and shook her head. “Well, let’s see the egg then I guess. Since I assume you have it now, right? Because what else would you be carrying in your pouch?”

Filbo wasn’t sure he wanted to take it out for fear of dropping it but… With a sigh, he reached into his pouch and pulled it out. Beffica snapped a photo of it as Chandlo stepped closer to look at it too.

“It’s a bit small and the colours are faded,” Cromdo said, making Filbo jump a little. He’d approached unnoticed and now stood on the other side of the log bench so he could get a good view of the egg. “That means it was born sooner than it should’ve been. Which with the way Buddy’s been running around, doesn’t surprise me. I’d say get it checked out by a doctor but we don’t got one anymore. So instead, just make sure to keep it as warm as possible. Like if you’re gonna have it outside of your pouch for more than five minutes put it in heated cradle, assuming you can find a way to make one that’s safe. Otherwise make sure someone’s carrying it around all the time, okay? And don’t let Buddy take it up the mountain or whatever.”

“What do you know about taking care of an egg?” Beffica asked pretty much exactly what Filbo was thinking but with far more scorn than was necessary.

“I just know, okay? It ain’t none of your business.” He turned back to look at Filbo again. “And don’t shake the egg neither or drop or anything else rough, got it?”

Under his stern gaze, Filbo carefully put the egg back into his pouch. “Got it. Thanks for the advice.” He’d take any from anyone who was willing to give it.

“You could maybe ask Floofty to examine it,” Chandlo said. “They’re real smart and know a lot about biology stuff even though they’re not a doctor. So they might be able to tell you if it’s okay or not.”

“All right.” It certainly couldn’t hurt.

The three of the followed as he started for the research tent. He’d really rather not ask Floofty for any kind of favor but… they were the only one here who might be able to examine the egg with any degree of accuracy. If only Eggabell were here. … Yeah, ifonly, and if only wishing for her return could actually bring her back to town. Wouldn’t that be nice?

Shaking off the bitterness of that thought as he stepped into Floofty’s part of the research tent, Filbo put on his best attempt at a pleasant expression. “Hey Floofty.”

Still leaning over the table and whatever they were working on they didn’t even turn their head to look at him as they answered. “Greetings.” Indifference was better than disdain but… still uncomfortable.

“We need your help with something,” Beffica cut in as she strode over and put a paw on Floofty’s desk, rattling it a little.

They looked up at her with an annoyed sigh. “What is it?”

“An egg,” Chandlo said. “It’s looking a bit unwell so I thought we could bring it to you and you could look it over, make sure it’s okay and stuff.”

“Ooh, an egg you say?” Triffany was suddenly in on the conversation too as she stepped over into this part of the tent. “Whose is it?”

“Buddy’s and Filbo’s,” Cromdo replied. “Apparently Buddy’s been pregnant this whole time and didn’t know. Unsurprisinglywith the way they’ve been running around it was born early so we need someone to check and see if the grumpling’s still alive inside it or not.”

Triffany grimaced. “Oh dear, yeah with the way they’ve been running around and stuff… I do hope they’re okay. Both Buddy and the grumpling.”

“Well, Buddy’s getting some much-needed rest right now,” Filbo said as he pulled the egg out again. “So Floofty do you think you could…” He held the egg towards them.

“I suppose with the use of Eggabell’s equipment I should at least be able to determine if the grumpling’s alive inside or not. Exactly how healthy it is, I’m not sure I’ll be able to tell, but something’s better than nothing.” They took from him. “Now someone go get me Eggabell’s medical bag.”

“I’ll do it,” Filbo volunteered, immediately turning to run over to Liz and Eggabell’s hut. He needed the distraction and to be moving and since he was keeping the place clean for their eventual return, he knew exactly where the medical bag was.

Standing around while Floofty examined the egg with Eggabell’s limited equipment was nerve-wracking. Was Filbo actually going to have to figure out how to be parent or was this was one big scary false alarm. … Part of him hoped for the latter. … He flinched internally. How could he even think that? Grumplings dying unhatched was always tragic and not something that should be hoped for. So no he didn’t hope that that had happened but… but… he wasn’t ready to be a parent!

Despite his inner turmoil he kept his expression as positive as he could. The one thing he was good at other than messing up was maintaining a positive energy. Like a good leader should. … Except for the fact that no one here respected him as a leader. Which he couldn’t blame them for given everything. But his chances to ever gain that respect from them or anyone else were severally hampered by the fact that he now had an egg and eventually a grumpling to take care unless… He wasn’t hoping for that though.

How did one even care for a grumpling after it hatched? They were mostly just carried around in their parents’ pouches, right? Until they were… whatever age where that wasn’t a thing anymore. What age even was that? And what happened then?

“Congratulations Filbo,” Floofty said as they picked up the egg and turned away from their desk to approach him. “Despite Buddy’s negligence for their own wellbeing, the egg and grumpling inside seem mostly fine as far as I can determine, certainly alive if nothing else. Which admittedly I’m not a doctor nor a proper expert on fetal development but I am fairly confident in my assessment nonetheless.”

As they handed him the egg, he put on a smile. “Thanks.” He slipped it into his pouch.

“You’re welcome. Now take Eggabell’s stuff back to her cabin and shoo, I have work to get back to.” They turned their back and went back to their desk.

Filbo quickly grabbed the medical bag and was out of there.

“Congrats,” Beffica said as she fell in step with him. She even sounded kind of sincere for once.

“Uh… thanks.”

“Yes, congrats,” Triffany added. “I’m sure you and Buddy will be great parents. I almost can’t wait to have a little one running the place. I’m going to go tell Wamby.” And she was off.

“Yeah, congrats dawg,” Chandlo came up on his other side. “What you going to name them?”

Oh no, they were going to have to come up with a name too? How? “Uh… I don’t know. I’m sure Buddy will think of something, I’m really bad with names.”

Before much more than even an hour had passed since he’d even got the news himself, everyone in town had approached Filbo to congratulate him on the egg. Gramble also offered to watch the egg and/or the grumpling if he and Buddy ever needed or wanted a break for a bit. Filbo was tempted to hand him the egg to watch right then and there but… just thanked him with a smile instead. If any of them even suspected how much he was freaking out below the surface, they didn’t say anything.

But when Buddy woke up and they talked about it some more, surely everything would be okay, right? Buddy would know how to handle the situation and thus they’d ease Filbo’s fears and… stuff. So everything was going to be fine.

He's not a well known icon, but he's known for his modeling gigs

He gets crushes pretty easily and gets upset when they don't like him back

Even though he looks like he would never hurt anyone, he could hurt anyone and will do it

He's really good at hiding and publicly speaking

When he first stepped on the island, he met Eggabell and fell in love with her

Then he met Triffany and fell in love with her, then Wiggle, and lastly Floofty

He doesn't like his sister because she spends time with Floofty

He doesn't like Chandlo(he got confused and thought he was dating Floofty) or Gramble because they have a thing for his crushes

He covers his left eye due to incident with a wild animal but his sister took most of the fall for him

His hut is right beside his sister's hut which is near the woods

In town, he's known as a bit of a stalker

He's relatively popular despite him acting shy which might add to his "coolness" but that's up to perceptive

Beffica made him a bracelet and he always keeps it on

Even though Lizbert's with Eggabell, Cemi doesn't hate her along with Wambus

She took a liking towards Floofty and Snorpy since they're siblings and she just so happened to bring her younger brother with her

Her and Floofty get along due to their fascination of the bugsnax and both missing their limbs

She uses a prosthetic arm due to an incident that happened when she was younger

Amly tried stealing her arm and now Charlia always keeps it on her no matter what

You find her in the Sugerpines not near Chandlo or Snorpy but closer towards the mountain

Sometimes, she lifts Cemi into the air because he's light weight and because she thinks it's cute when he tries to get out her grasp

If someone is older then her, then she'll refer to them as a Miss, Mr, Mrs, and Mx

Snorpy fixes her arm when it's broken or just isn't working

Lizbert sometimes invites her on expeditions that way Charlia can grab some test subjects

She doesn't eat the snax, seeing them as..gross but she thinks that of anything she consumes

The experiments she does aren't harsh like Floofty's but it still involves scalpels and jars of unused parts

Besides doing experiments, she really good at sports mainly basketball and football

Candy's thoughts on some Grumpuses

I'm bored, so here's some of Candy's general thoughts on Lizberts expedition team on Snaketooth!

All of them :: Generally, Candy admires and respects the other grumpuses on Snaktooth- at first he saw them as nothing more than literature, but he quickly grew to care for them. He's respectful to them all, even if he's not a huge fan of a few!

Filbo :: Candy isn't too sure about Filbo honestly. He thinks Filbo is caring and sweet, and he enjoys their chatters and helping out the overworked mayor, but personally Candy doesn't think Filbo should be the mayor ... not that he's exactly bad at it, but Filbo just seems too stressed and soft for such a strict job.

Wambus :: Candy, when he first met Wambus, had a bit of a crush on the rugged farmer. That quickly dissipated, and he sees Wambus as a close friend and colleague. He often takes research notes of Wambus's plants for his paperwork, and in return Candy will document all of Wambus's ramblings until Trif comes home from her paleontology work.

Triffany :: Candy also had a crush on Triffany for a few moments. He thinks Trif is remarkably smart and quite a creative individual but he wouldn't say they are really friends ... more so just aquantices.

Beffica :: They are Besties in beffs eyes, and pals in Candy's. He loves to gossip and ramble about happening events with Beffica, but as soon as she starts acting snarky or invasive he stops the conversation and leaves-- he rather stay out of the islanders super personal lives for now.

Snorpy + Floofty :: Candy doesn't really have any strong feelings for either of the siblings. He thinks they are cool and interesting to hang around-- definitely the most interesting to interview-- but that's about it.

Chandlo :: Not one of his favorite villagers, but he respects and admires Chandlos dedication and work ethics involving Snorpy and physical activity.

cromdo :: Cromdo scammed Candy out of a working bridge, and he's felt a bit of resentment since. He's okay with Cromdo, but does get more easily annoyed around the short salesman.

Shelda :: Probably the grumpus he's closest to on Snaktooth. At first, he was slightly off put by Shelda but ... he quickly developed a familial bond with the older woman, almost seeing her as a mother in a way. He would spend long periods of time venting and chattering with her, and she would actively listen and help him-- Candy just feels safest with Shelda. Candy gets overly defensive for Shelda, and has accidentally called her 'Mom' at least 2 times ...

Wiggle :: Candy absolutely adores Wiggles musical talents- he's a bit of a fanboy ! One of the reasons he even came with liz's invite is that Wiggle was on the island- he could meet his favorite musician!

Gramble :: He... does not like Gramble. They often butt heads, but candy still willingly helps out... although he sometimes wonders if he should help out Gramble. He just feels as if Gramble is too preachy and overly 'I'm better than you all' just because he doesn't eat bugsnax (which is ironic as he cares for shelda so much)

I have a grumpsona in mind..but I'm not finish with it's design

Amly Ductforce(I'm bad at names) came to Snaktooth island because they were bored and needed a vacation from their "job"

He's gender-fluid and doesn't mind people getting his pronouns wrong when he doesn't feel that gender, but some just call him a "They" and that's fine by him

One thing that she's really good at, is lying and stealing. When she came to Snaktooth Island, she started her hobby right away and stole some things from Wambus which got him pretty upset

He gives everyone nicknames despite not liking anyone besides Cromdo

She likes order yet enjoys chaos, sometimes, she would plant random objects that belong to the residents in each other's huts to start up something

When the town split, he went to the Boiling Bay due to the nice warm yet cold feel to it and because she wanted to steal stuff from Floofty

They're probably in their late 40s early 50s

Her and Cromdo get along for the most part as long as she doesn't steal anything from him

In their hut, they have a lot of stolen objects, most from Wambus

Their hut is beside Liz and Egg's hut but is to the right of the beach

If he was in the game, then you'd meet them the same time you meet Floofty

She doesn't like Lizbert because she always calls her out on the stuff she steals, same for Beffica

Due to his hatred to Lizbert, he shares the same hatred towards Eggabell but doesn't go out his way to steal from her, seeing her as too fragile

He's scared of Chandlo(because he would snap her like a twig), Shelda(because she acts like a cult leader), and Gramble(because he's too nice)

If they get caught stealing, they lie about it and theres a 90% chance it'll work due to their confident sounding voice and being a bit manipulative

"I could handle the drama between Wamby and Gram, but once Cromy left, I had no reason to stay. I wanted to follow him, but I decided to live near the beach instead, so yeah."

Surprise Egg 9/13: Party Lights

Sitting on a rock on the beach, Buddy flipped through their journal. Surely they’d forgotten or missed something, right? No way they had actually done all of everything everyone had requested of them. There was always more, right? …

For once though there wasn’t somehow; they’d marked everything as complete. Other than for the task of keeping them all fed in general no one wanted anything from them. And… they’d all given up on their goals too, some after Buddy helped them catch a big legendary bugsnax – or more like caught it for them in Wiggle and Cromdo’s cases – some just because they’d finally realized bugsnax weren’t going to help. Even Shelda had dropped her purity act even if she still refused to eat bugsnax if they weren’t put into her box first. And that left them with… not a whole lot to do.

They’d already caught every single bugsnax that seemingly could be found on the island too. So all that was left was to find the Snaxsqautch and open the stone doors which would hopefully lead to finding Lizbert. The former seemed more and more unlikely as it was very good at hiding when it wanted to. The latter was mostly up to Eggabell and Triffany to figure out; the riddle was intriguing but not their strong suit especially since their mind seemed to have a permanent fog around it these days, making it hard to think clear enough to solve anything.

They snapped the journal closed and put it away before jumping off their rock and into the sand. A wave washed up around their feet, pleasantly warm thanks to the heat of the midday sun overhead. Today would’ve been a nice day to spend at the beach, relaxing in the sun and taking a nap, maybe going for a swim afterwards. But even though they could easily spare the time to they didn’t have the mental energy to do something merely for the sake of it. So, with a sigh and as the wave pulled away from them, they turned and headed back for Snaxburg.

Once there, they headed first for Shelda. She wasn’t mediating but instead sitting on the edge of her little platform, seemingly doing nothing. “You need help with anything?” they asked as they reached her.

She looked up. “Not even going to say hello, huh?”

“Hello. Is there anything you need help with?”

“You working customer service now?” Her halfhearted chuckle quickly trailed off. “But… no. I don’t think there’s anything you can help me with right now.”

“Are you sure? Because I don’t have much else to do.”

“No, thanks dear. You should go rest.”

Not bothering to reply to that, they moved onto Wambus who was tending to his garden as he always did at this time. “Need help with something?” they asked as they put their paws on his fence, leaning forward onto it a little.

“No thanks,” he replied. “You should probably go rest, you look uh… unwell. Not that that’s anything new these days.” The last part was muttered under his breath, barely audible from where Buddy stood.

With a frown, they moved on. But they got basically that exact response from everyone else too. No one needed or wanted their help with anything and thought they should rest. Which was a kind sentiment but… they couldn’t, they needed a distraction. Sitting or lying around doing nothing seemingly helped not at all anymore and only made them more aware of their own misery. And it felt like if they sat still for too long they wouldn’t be able to get back up. Which was silly but… felt true anyway and thus made them afraid and anxious about resting.

They could force themself to eat more. That might make them feel better but… they weren’t hungry, hadn’t been for a while now. Which was a blessing but also a curse as it made eating quite unpleasant. Stopping would be really bad though so they had to. And they could and probably should do so now because they hadn’t eaten anything at all since this morning… maybe. … They weren’t in the mood though so later. Instead they would do… what? There had to be something, right? …

Ah, Filbo! He never asked anything of them other than for them taking better care of themself because he was wonderful and amazing like that but maybe he might need help with something today?

They found him out behind his hut, taking his freshly cleaned and dried mayor sashes off the clothesline. He smiled as he looked up and caught sight of them approaching. “Hi, Buddy! You doing okay?”

“Yeah.” About as okay as could be expected anyway. “You need help with anything?”

“Hmm… yeah actually I do.” Draping the sashes over his arm, Filbo led the way back around to the front of his hut and then inside. He continued as he carefully put them away in his dresser. “What do you say about having another party tonight to celebrate almost everyone being back? Snorpy made some party lights and I could use some help hanging them up around town. … If you’re up to the kind of thing anyway. You could also just lie down for a bit and take a nap. In fact, maybe you should do…”

“Nah, putting up lights sounds great.” Better than lying down and feeling miserable until they feel asleep only to wake up feeling just as tired and even more miserable than before so what would even be the point? “Just tell me where to put them and how you want them to look and I’ll do my best.”

“All right. Let’s go then."

As they worked, they talked. Or more like Filbo talked and Buddy mostly just listened. Which was preferable as their mind felt too foggy to really make intelligent conversation. So Filbo chatted about this and that, catching Buddy up on what everyone had been up to around town since last he’d done so the other day. There of course wasn’t much new but that was fine.

Eventually he lapsed into silence. Before Buddy could gather the wherewithal to ask if he was okay he broke it. “So… I’ve been thinking about uh… when you leave. Which will hopefully be soon since… you know, the whole starving thing. But uh… anyway, I think I’d like to go with you when you do go. If that offer is still open anyway.”

“It is!” They wanted to just be happy he was coming but… “Are you sure though? I’ll come back of course with food supplies for Gramble and Shelda and stuff but… probably not super often outside that. And I won’t be able to stay long when I do visit most of the time. So… I wouldn’t ask you to abandon everything you have here just for me. Especially since you’re the mayor.”

“I call myself the mayor yeah, but… no one here is ever actually going to see me that way. Besides Liz is going to be back by then and she’s a far better leader than I could ever hope to be. So they’ll be in good paws. I’ll miss everyone of course, especially Liz and Egg but we can visit sometimes. And if we can eventually get internet and cell coverage out here, I can chat with them long distance. So… I want to go with you.”

“All right. It’ll be nice having you along.”

“Speaking of the whole you leaving thing though we should probably ask Snorpy and Chandlo to fix your airship soon so it’s ready to go when…”

“We solved the riddle!”

Filbo squeaked in surprise and almost topped off his ladder at the louder than needed interruption. After watching to make sure he steadied himself, Buddy carefully turned around to look down at Triffany standing by the foot of their ladder.

“We solved it,” she said again, smiling up at them. “It took a bit because Liz’s notes threw us off for a while but we figured it out in the end. So now we can go up there and open the stone doors. Or at least we should be able to, we could be wrong again but I don’t think so.”

Things just kept getting better and better today. With a grin, Buddy pushed themself off the ladder, jumping off. They landed a bit harder and more unsteady than intended but quickly shook it off before starting for Filbo’s hut at a jog. They grabbed their backpack from inside and only did the barest minimum checking to ensure everything was attached to it properly before turning around and jogging back over to Triffany and Filbo. Eggabell had come out from somewhere to join them.

“Let’s go,” they said as they reached the group.

Eggabell looked them over with a measuring look before frowning. “You haven’t been resting.”

“Incorrect. I rest often.” Though no more than had become normal. But now it wouldn’t be a problem anymore because they’d be getting their interview with Lizbert – or would have to give up on it – and then could be on their way back to the mainland to publish their story and everything would be better.

Eggabell shook her head in seeming defeat. “Let’s just go.” She turned and started leading the way towards Sugarpine Woods. She only took like three steps before she stopped though, turning to face Filbo instead. “Look Filbo I know you want to come too and normally I’d let you but…” she glanced over at Triffany, “well Triffany kind of helped me figure it out faster than I probably would’ve on my own so I feel like she should be our third for opening the door. And we only need three so…” she trailed off.

“I know it’s dangerous,” Triffany began, “with the whole threat of avalanches and whatnot but surely one extra wouldn’t hurt too bad now, would it?”

Eggabell gave Filbo a look for a couple seconds before looking back at Triffany. Before she could actually reply though, Filbo spoke up. “No, it’s… fine. Risking it wouldn’t be… uh, wise if we don’t have to. And I would only slow you guys down anyway. I can talk to Liz later when you guys bring her back and stuff. So it’s… fine. But uh… Buddy,” he looked at them, “be careful, okay?”

“I’ll be as careful as I can.” They could do that much for him at least.

“I’ll keep an eye on them,” Eggabell said, her tone making a promise. “Now let’s go.” She turned and started on her way once more.

Triffany hesitated for a moment, shooting Filbo a guilty look before following.

Buddy looked back at Filbo. “I’ll see you in a little bit. And I’ll hopefully have Lizbert with me when I do. We’ll probably be back in time to enjoy at least some of the party too.” They stepped closer to share a quick kiss with him before turning and jogging to catch up with Triffany and Eggabell.

“Yeah, see you in a little bit,” Filbo said behind them, his tone almost making them want to turn back and give him hug too. But they didn’t have time to right now, they had important things to do.

Even without Filbo they went at a fairly sedate pace through the woods and up the mountain because that’s the pace Eggabell set even though it wasn’t long before she looked impatient with it. Buddy would’ve normally chaffed under it and either insisted they go faster or just gone on ahead by themself. But this time, they appreciated it.

It was quickly getting dark and they were so very tired. When was the last time they’d slept? Was it last night? Maybe, they couldn’t be sure. They would’ve gone to lay down somewhere and sleep but… important things needed doing. So they continued on, doing their best to pay attention to what Triffany was saying to them to distract themself from everything else.

Talking to her was always a delight. She went on at length about how she and Eggabell had solved the riddle and what Lizbert had gotten wrong about it in her notes. She of course talked about other things she’d found out about the stone doors as well as stuff surrounding them and what it all might mean. She also speculated on what could be on the other side of the doors and what that might mean. All very fascinating stuff that unfortunately Buddy’s mind didn’t seem inclined to absorb much of right now.

They were nearing the top when the ground rumbled beneath them. Just a small tremor at first but it was immediately followed up by something much bigger, making all three of them lose their footing. Thankfully they weren’t on one of the steeper parts of the climb up so instead of falling to their deaths they were all sent sliding down hill on a thankfully for now small wave of snow.

Buddy scrabbled and clawed at ground, somehow managing to get a grip on rock outcropping. A quick glance around confirmed Eggabell and Triffany had found themselves in similar situations, though a bit further down. Buddy took a breath to shout to them but the sound died unuttered as they glanced up just in time to see the massive wall of snow right before it hit them.
