Amidst everything going on in the world right now we encourage everyone to find time to rest and get outside as safe to do. The Garden is open daily for everyone from 7:30am - 7pm (last entry 6pm). ๐ŸŒซ Air quality is constantly fluctuating but especially in the afternoons as the onshore breeze picks up it has often been nice out here in western San Francisco. Recommend checking airnow.gov and purpleair.com for the latest on air quality. ๐ŸŒซ Late summer highlights await... ๐ŸŒธ windflower (Anemone x hybrida) are native to central China but have been naturalized in Japan for centuries and planted in gardens in England since the mid 19th century. These can become a bit aggressive here and should be planted with care but they do offer an abundant late summer / early fall bloom. This patch can be found flowering now in the Rhododendron Garden. ๐ŸŒฟ stream lily (Helmholtzia glaberrima) is an eastern Australian native that is an uncommon rhizomatous perennial that grows in mountainous rainforest. These are blooming beautifully now in the Australia garden. ๐ŸŒฑ naked ladies (Amaryllis belladonna) are native to South Africa and get their common name as they appear naked without any leaves as they bloom. The leaves appear in early spring, and die back before the flowers appear in summer. These are in bloom now in the South Africa Garden. ๐Ÿ‚ Autumn approaches and the Gingko tree (Gingko biloba) in the Temperate Asia Garden is starting to show signs of seasonal change. ๐ŸŒผ #sfbotanicalgarden #naturebreak #getoutside #anemonexhybrida #helmholtziaglaberrima #amaryllisbelladonna #gingkobiloba #latesummer (at San Francisco Botanical Garden) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEfFfXGgRUC/?igshid=2abh0hl0itmz
