[kotaromita]

Based on the CYBER SNIPER set and @kusanagi-nene-official-mods' cyber apocalypse AU, I designed a Kotaro in the same universe!

Rather than offense focused like Akito, Toya, Nene, and Emu are in the set, I wanted to keep in line with his tendency to flee from conflict and give him an EMP multi-tool for the sake of disarming any enemy for a chance to run and hide.

Following the apocalypse he’s become hyperfocused on protecting Takato and stockpiling supplies. With people he knows he doesn’t hesitate sharing whatever he has at the time so long as Takato is safe and well taken care of.

He is unsure where his parents are and spends any time he isn’t scavenging or hiding looking for them and anyone else he recognizes. He’s incredibly lonely despite willingly isolating himself for safety most days. He’s perpetually worried about Akito and Kohane.

Because of his habitual hoarding of necessities he was once ambushed and robbed. In the struggle his wrist and numerous bones in his hand were broken. It was painful constantly and unable to heal properly so with Akito’s help he amputated it. He was able to take a split-hook prosthetic off of a casualty of the apocalypse. It’s too small for his upper arm so he can’t wear it for long periods of time without discomfort.

In a roleplay with @hellsaoyagi he and Toya sang together and reminisced.

Interacting with @kusanagi-nene-official has led to the two of them becoming allies in their situation, although they don't often have the chance to interact in person due to their differing goals.

More information about the AU you can get from primarily Nene's mod and maybe the people running the Emu, Toya, and Rin accounts that are also associated with the AU! I'm just trying my best to mesh with the world they've created. It's so much fun putting Kotaro in lots of different AUs since, what with him having no cards and alternate outfits, I have almost complete freedom, hehe.

Lastly, this is basically how I envision his prosthetic!

Just imagine a more high-tech version of this, what with the colored bits being lit up and so on.

There's a flash of sadness on his face before forcing his smile back on. 'I'm sure he didn't think we'd meet again since it's a miracle I've lasted this long missing a hand and taking care of my brother,' Kotaro assumes. "Yeah, he's...well, you know how he is. Reckless. I was hoping you'd know more than he'd told me, but I should've known better than to expect that anymore." He clasps together his "good hand" and prosthetic split-hook. "So, what can I do ya for? As in what're you low on?" 'Whatever it'll take to have some company for a little while.'

"Toya! Eheh. 's been a while since you passed through here. Same old same old with me, but you and Akito...with the kinda stuff you guys're occupied with—last time I saw him he was looking pretty rough. Anything I can help you guys out with? I'm still no good with combat, but I've gotten pretty good scavenging, y'know?"

she goes by rin, but also responds to her serial code (CFMK-R-2). online she's known as observer R.

basically she's just a rogue (and very glitchy) ai made as a prototype by crypton (a massive tech company) then discarded because she was faulty. or so she claims. she doesn't really know.

she serves as an informant and hacker and knows too much about people.

sometimes when she speaks she malfunctions in a way that mimics stuttering. she's just like that.

she runs a sort of online chat service for the survivors she can get in contact with.

"Mhm! Yeah, for real!" Kotaro says cheerfully. He can see the way Toya's stiff posture has relaxed a little. It made sense to be perpetually on guard in their current world, but it made Kotaro happy that for just a little while people could feel safe around him. He'd never been the confrontation type unless it was for someone else's sake, after all.

He seems a little more withdrawn when he adds, "Any time you wanna do something like this, like just chill out and sing together, I'll always be ready. Since it's you asking 'n all." He usually was offering his help as a scavenger or amateur nurse, but something like this felt so much more wholesome.

Kotaro's heart soars hearing Toya's singing voice again. He had feared the events he partook in with him would dull with time, but with this they seem as vivid as ever. It's clear they're both a bit out of practice, but Toya's voice has always been lovely, be it singing or speaking. Kotaro taps his fingers on his thigh like a metronome until they finish the song. He struggles to catch his breath for a moment before giggling. Then, he throws his head back and really laughs.

"Waaah! That felt so good!"

"Toya! Eheh. 's been a while since you passed through here. Same old same old with me, but you and Akito...with the kinda stuff you guys're occupied with—last time I saw him he was looking pretty rough. Anything I can help you guys out with? I'm still no good with combat, but I've gotten pretty good scavenging, y'know?"

He grins delightedly at the response. Seeing Toya's face and hearing Toya's voice has him waxing nostalgic. He'd much rather sing with him like before than discuss their grim reality.

"Eheh. Okay, do you remember this one?" Kotaro says. He may not be a member of Vivid BAD SQUAD, but practicing with them nearly every day it would've been hard not to memorize their songs. He starts to sing the beginning of Mirai. Of course he can't sing it as well as Akito, Kohane, An, or Toya, but he knows the words and in general he can keep up with them as a singer.

"Toya! Eheh. 's been a while since you passed through here. Same old same old with me, but you and Akito...with the kinda stuff you guys're occupied with—last time I saw him he was looking pretty rough. Anything I can help you guys out with? He laughs once, holding his hook to his mouth as he once would have his hand. "Yeah, I'm alright. Making do how I can. I can't let anything get me in too dark of a place. I have Takato to take care of." Hopefully Toya could at least remember the name of Kotaro's little brother.

He glances around, listening to the disconcerting silence. They're alone. With a small smile he asks, "Hey, do you wanna sing together for a little bit?"

"Toya! Eheh. 's been a while since you passed through here. Same old same old with me, but you and Akito...with the kinda stuff you guys're occupied with—last time I saw him he was looking pretty rough. Anything I can help you guys out with? Kotaro exhales through his nose in a silent laugh. He steps over some weeds growing between the cracks in the concrete before sitting next to Toya on the crumbling curb. "If you insist."

"Toya! Eheh. 's been a while since you passed through here. Kotaro smiles back. The movement of his cheeks further emphasizes the dark circles around his eyes. "Eheh, 's a little weird nowadays having someone around me without some real reason, but...yeah. Thanks." He refrains from reminiscing about the days the reasoning behind their meetings were for music instead of survival. Now he can't even write lyrics without a keyboard and god forbid he try and use a touch pad. "Mind if I ask who you're headed to see? Anybody from—...anyone I would know?"

"Toya! Eheh. 's been a while since you passed through here. 'A trap, huh? Even with people you used to think of as friends there's that risk now. I should expect as much by now,' Kotaro thinks. He's a bit careless when it comes to seeing people he recognizes. Toya was smart to know differently.

"Hehehe! Isn't everybody tired, though? That's—my situation is nothing worth sneezing at. Sit down or something. My bet is you're pretty exhausted yourself."

"Toya! Eheh. 's been a while since you passed through here.
