@hellpopgroove thanks for the ask :) keeping this in my inbox because you sent a second prompt and I might get back to it some time, and if it was out of my inbox I'd surely forget about it!

It's late by the time the meetings are done, and Deborah wants nothing more than fall into bed and ignore the rest of the world until her show on Saturday, and next to her Ava seems to be flagging as well - so much for the stamina of youth. Alas, they have to catch a plane back home first. The fact that it's a private plane which would wait for Deborah doesn't matter, she needs to be home tomorrow for contract negotiations, they can't stay another night at the hotel.

Ava shuffles onto the jet after her, eyes drooping, and Deborah pulls her into the seat next to hers before she can fall. Ava leans against her, mumbles something and falls asleep with her head on Deborah's shoulder.

Deborah tries to tell herself that the only reason she enjoys it so much is body heat, isn't there some psychological bullshit about needing to be hugged sometimes to be happy? It has absolutely nothing to do with it being Ava, who could never love her back. She fails at making herself believe this, and curses herself for not even being able to stop caring for the younger woman back when she betrayed her, because surely if that had no effect, nothing is going to make this infatuation disappear.

Then, she yawns. Well, at least Ava had a good idea when it comes to how to spend the flight home...

Deborah wakes to the sound of Ava shuffling with her backpack next to her. The plane is landing, she smiles knowing they will be home in less than an hour now, and she feels surprisingly well rested for a plane nap. Maybe that's an Ava-effect as well - she always sleeps better when they're falling asleep watching TV together.

"Pass me my phone?"

"Aww, dang," Ava looks up startled, apparently she hadn't noticed Deborah was awake. "You looked so peaceful, I wanted to - oh, but this is better! Can you wait a second? I wanna take a picture of you right now!"

"What?" Deborah gapes at her. Her hair is surely a mess, she didn't take off her makeup before falling asleep so she must look a fright... But Ava is looking at her so earnestly, so hopeful, Deborah sighs and nods for her to commence even if it turns out to be some sort of joke. Though really, Ava is much too funny to rely on that cruel sort of humor, Deborah thinks with a smile.

"Perfect," Ava murmurs, and a moment later she holds her phone screen under Deborah's nose. "You're so beautiful."

i've started a little tradition of going up to portland every summer the weekend of the ICC tournament, which gives me the chance to see some amazing OUS womens soccer clubs play in person. plus i love portland, especially the food, so hoping to make that trip happen again in 2023. bonus points if chelsea is playing again as they're one of my favorite clubs

answered already but i'll do another: 'afterparties' by anthony veasna so. i'm not typically a huge fan of short stories but this collection was spectacular

I gave Becky the link to my massive Hacks fic and gave her the rundown of the backstory that went into the cover art

And she listened! She didn’t tell me to stfu and get a life! I explained what chapters the images are from and why I wrote them. I read her an excerpt that has to do with the age gap and she was intrigued and went, “Yeah you’re right. You’re totally right about them being equals and finding a peer in each other. Like soulmates.”

She then asked if she could read the kitchen stand-off in ch 20 and I said yeah and then she read it aloud like she was reading an excerpt from the fucking Bible 😭🥺

It was a close thing in the end between Avorah and AvaDeb, but while AvaDeb currently seems to be used a bit more frequently on tumblr, Avorah has also been tagged a lot, and is apparently the most popular option on other sites - and it won the poll of course!

Why decide on a shipname at all?

First of all, to name this blog! I'll try to collect all art and edits of the two, if you have any I haven't reblogged yet, feel free to send them over/ @ the blog, if someone wants to help mod, just send an ask!

But also, it's a lot easier to find new posts when everyone uses the same shipname, so you won't have to enter ten or more variations until you're sure you've seen all posts! So it's clever both for those of us who just want to look at and reblog them, and for the artists it's of course neat to know which tag will get most people to look at their posts!

You can of course still use other shipnames in your posts and use other tags as well and no-one can be forced to use a particular tag at all, but using #Avorah as one of the searchable tags (20 tags per tumblr post) on posts you make for the ship would be cool :)

last song: Stray Italian Greyhound by VIenna Teng. I could sing along to this one in my sleep but it never gets old and the fact that it makes me think of all of my grumpy, jaded favorites who get knocked off their feet by an inconvenient and immovable ray of sunshine is an added bonus. “What do I do with a love that won’t sit still?”  ♥♥♥

last show/series: I’m currently binging Secrets of the Zoo and am completely obsessed. It’s the perfect comfort/distraction show.

currently watching: I’m about halfway through my Battlestar Galactica rewatch but have pressed pause because of travel (and tbh because I need more cheerful content right now). I’ll return to that once I’m back home. It’s been a great rewatch so far, though! I love this show so damn much. Other than that, I’m enjoying this season of Abbott Elementary, just finished s2 of Kevin Can F*ck Himself, am cautiously optimistic about this season of SVU, and am angrily watching the last few episodes of The Walking Dead because I am a clown that got lured back in with false promises of a Carol Peletier spinoff and am (foolishly) invested in her ending even if I’m not expecting it to be satisfying.

favorite color: Yellow. with bright blues and soft grays not far behind.

sweet, spicy, or savory: I can’t say “all of them”? I love chocolates and pastries, etc., but too much sweetness can really ruin something for me. Savory is delicious and I do love salty snacks so that’s a solid contender, but at the end of the day, I carry hot sauce around in my purse like the Louisianan I am so I’ll have to go with spicy. (Even though I am literally eating a praline right now.)

currently reading: I just finished Honey in the Marrow by Emily Waters (loved it, unsurprisingly). I brought Her Majesty’s Royal Coven by Juno Dawson, Love, Sex, Gender, and Superheroes by Jeffrey A. Brown, and The Poems of Marianne Moore (blaming @ellydash for that) with me for my time in Louisiana. I’m also just a couple of days rom getting my hot little hands on Mistakes Were Made by Meryl Wilsner and cannot WAIT.

what i'm working on: My health has taken a pretty massive downturn this past month so my stress levels are high, brain fog is severe, and ability to focus is limited. In short: not much. That said! I’m officiating my brother’s wedding this weekend so finalizing and polishing that script is at the forefront for me, and that’s really exciting.

currently obsessed with: My mom’s new cats 😻 She adopted three in February and this is my first time meeting them, I am in LOVE!!! My brother and his soon-to-be husband arrive tonight with their two cats (also new to me) so it’s going to be a delightfully full house and I am so excited. I’m also obsessing over the new Star Trek: Picard trailer, that one picture of J. Smith-Cameron with all of the bookshelves, the ancient Limited Too rainbow hairbrush I found in my old bathroom closet, and my incredible new tank top ft. this Hacks design by @hellpopgroove.
