it had started as some argument -- it always did. something petty and stupid, she couldn't even remember WHAT they had been fighting about. the space between them, or what little there was, felt like there was some electricity there -- like SPARKS were constantly ignited between them. rukia could feel them in her fingertips, the ones that twitched in a want to touch, to FEEL. this moment felt different from the millions of moments of their bickering and arguing, he was getting closer and closer. or maybe it was her and the gravity he possessed that had her always wanting to be closer... not that she would freely admit it. and he was there, right THERE, and rukia thought (not necessarily for the first time) that maybe this was it. this could be the moment that she had imagined against her will night after night. it was unbearably distracting.

her breath had hitched, her heart had rabbited almost right out of her chest -- she forgot that it could do that, that it could BEAT so hard. and just like that, the mark was missed and although her eyes had fluttered shut (you IDIOT!), rukia felt the heat of his forehead against hers. what a fool, she thought to herself. as if he would want to do such a thing, as if he thought of her in such a way -- hands clenched into fists at her side as the feeling of utter disappointment and embarrassment made a home in her chest. nose brushed nose and for a moment, she thought... what if she were to do it? what if she were to close the distance that felt like a million miles and at the same time barely a millimeter?

" -- ichigo..." she paused, had the good grace to blush a deep scarlet, and cleared her throat. "if this is you asking for FORGIVENESS for what you did, i might consider..."
