workplace christmas party
(surface lore under cut)
Back on the surface, Alexis Kane’s god-given name was Virginia Wulff – and instead of a lavish underwater penthouse, she lived in a dingy old studio in Jersey City. Going door-to-door and living paycheck-to-paycheck, her last place of employment was a location for a telephone production company, where she worked as one of their many smiling salesmen. It was as much of a road block as her other sales gigs were, but as the war came to an end and women were kicked out of the workforce in droves, there weren’t a whole lot of options. Selling overpriced rotaries to schmucks had to do.
Still, Wulff was always an ambitious woman, and even the jail cell of a dead-end job couldn't keep that locked in. She worked her ass off day and night, and eventually became one of the best salespeople in the company’s location. She won’t bring up the occasional tampered sales report or faking invoices with outside friends. It didn't matter how meager the achievement was in the grand scheme of things, just that she was the best at something for once.
McNamara worked in the office while Wulff was peddling in neighborhoods, so their interactions were minimal. Wulff knew her as more gentle and sweet compared to some of the others, but she never knew her much deeper than that. Never knew of any family, pets, or other friends she might’ve had. She saw her as a bit of a doormat then – hearing her regularly over-apologizing to customers that were obviously in the wrong – but she kept her mouth shut. McNamara didn’t have strong opinions on her either, but believed they had a generally cordial relationship. Unfortunately that was proven wrong in late 1947, when McNamara unexpectedly entered the office late at night while Kane was there “reworking” the numbers on another co-worker's report.
It was an accident; she didn’t mean to kill her. But she did mean to hit her over the head with a decorative vase during her panic.
She never checked her pulse. Not while she hauled the body and scraps of vase to her car, and not while she buried her in a shallow grave. Lying to the police was the easy part, but the Herculean task was managing the guilt months later. Admitting her murder wasn’t an option, but god knows she could only tell herself that she was just stepping on others to reach for the top so many times. She needed an out.
Her golden ticket was from accidentally eavesdropping on a couple of drunkards: An underwater utopia for people who want to escape from the economic and political perils of the surface. Somewhere a person could have a fresh start and others wouldn’t ask too many questions.
Wulff would’ve laughed at the idea in a normal situation. But a name change, a stolen recruitment letter, and a boat ride later, Alexis Kane left her baggage at the door to finally make a name for herself. Or did she?

Did I ever post my MASH OC?
I feel like I probably didn't... Maybe I did. I don't remember. She might've been below the cut in another post. But since she will likely be in many of my kinktober fics and potentially whumptober too, I figured that I should probably introduce her here!
I'll give basic info here and for anyone who is interested, the more detailed stuff below the cut :)
Della Woods
Nicknames: Dell
Age: 29 (at the beginning of her time at MASH)
Birthdate: March 12, 1922
Gender: Female
Pronouns: She/Her
Sexuality: Straight
Height: 5’6”
Blood Type: AB-
Medical Conditions: Secondary dysmenorrhea (her cramps get so bad that she’s doubled over, dizzy, nauseous… the first time anyone sees her that way they’re very concerned)
Allergies: Bees (anaphylaxis)
Overall Health: Good
Rank: 1st Lieutenant
Hair Colour: Chocolate Brown
Hair texture: Curly
Common Hair Styles: Loose (comes to just below her jaw), half-up
Eye Colour: Honey brown
Makeup: Usually eyeliner, mascara, and lipstick (if she has them/has the time)
Piercings: Ears (Wanted to give her a nose piercing but apparently they weren’t really a thing in the US in the 50s… but now having thoughts of her showing up after R&R with one and Mulcahy being flustered hehe)
Body Type: Lean
Skin Colour: Pale
Features of Note: medium sized bust, wide hips
Scars/Birth Marks: Scar just above her left hip that trails onto her abdomen and back
Cause of Scars: Sliced by sheet metal during shelling
Dominant Hand: Left
That's basic info... if you want to know more, it'll be below the cut! Also, if there any any names you don't recognize now, it's because they're other OCs or family of the OCs!
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Hometown: Toronto, Canada -> Philadelphia, PA (moved after going to nursing school in Toronto and working in a hospital there for a few years)
Living Situation at home: Lives alone in an apartment after her friend moved out to get married
Family Back Home: Gary Woods (father - 50), Helen Woods (younger sister - 18), William Woods (younger brother - 15)
Occupation: Nurse (has psychiatric experience)
Relationship Status: It’s complicated
Love Interest: John Mulcahy (she calls him John bc the devs couldn't make up their minds what his first name was and that's what he told Gail to call him)
Relationship Trajectory: colleagues > best friends > uh ?? > only fooling themselves > lovers
Best Friend: John Mulcahy, Kellye Nakahara
People they avoid: Gail Harris, Joel Walker
Why?: her and Gail are similar enough to butt heads but Della doesn’t realize that it’s partially jealousy on Gail’s part (and her being territorial without even realizing it for herself); he’s just a fuckin dick
Personality: playful, kind, extroverted, wears her heart on her sleeve
Temperament: energetic, can be chaotic at times, very open
Alignment: chaotic good
Strengths: very perceptive of others’ emotions, calming demeanour when needed, adaptable
Weaknesses: quick temper, stubborn, can hold a grudge
Love Language (Giving): Physical Touch, Words of Affirmation
Love Language (Receiving): Quality Time, Physical Touch
Favourite Colour: Blue and Purple
Biggest Fear: birds (specifically chickens)
Other fears/yucks: dark places (like a dark shed or building, not like being outside in the dark), storms, spiders
Hobbies: scheming with Radar and Lee OR Klinger OR Whitney OR Hawkeye and BJ, jogging, dancing at the O-Club, knitting
Extracurriculars at school: Field Hockey and Lacrosse (played Lacrosse while at uni/nursing school?)
Quirks: very clumsy, somewhat messy handwriting, a bit messy
Specialized Skills: has some training with psychiatric patients
Good at: calming people down, understanding what people need without being told
Bad at: cooking, making the beds in post-op
Any trauma?: her mother (Pamela McNamara) died when she was 16
Childhood was…: good! She was close with her family!
Main Confident: John Mulcahy and Kellye Nakahara
Role in Friend Group: the therapist (also a clown but that’s not important)
Languages they speak: English, French, a tiny bit of Korean, a bit of ASL
I made this piccrew from a template made by @/hunbloom for her original character design. I’ve drawn her a few times since but the only one I’m really happy with is a kinda cheeky one with Father Mulcahy that I used a base for initially. But if people want to see it, I’ll definitely post it!

hi!
If you had to recommend one book to a younger feminist, what would it be?
To any feminist, regardless of age, I recommend Invisible Women. I'm a data nerd, and when I read books about different ways data is being used in the world to affect how services, institutions, products, and experiences are changed for people, I always appreciate how mind-opening it is. Some of the smallest things in life that we just assume "is what it is," is actually not natural.
For instance, as a frequent medical patient, I knew that there was a lot of medical misogyny, having experienced it myself, but Criado Perez's book goes deeper into how women are treated across the board by the medical establishment.
And thanks to a job my mom held when I was a kid, I was exposed to crash test dummies at a young age (a weird thing, for sure). I never asked why they were all the same size and weight, because it never occurred to me that car companies wouldn't take everyone into account. Boy, was I wrong.
Invisible Women is not heavy on feminist theory - at least, not what I think of as "traditional theory." But part of taking feminist actions, for me, is learning about how the world got to where it is, and how can I take concrete steps to make changes right now. Learning about things like "the pink tax" and how ads specifically target women made me look more closely at the products I buy. Knowing that I can take small but real steps makes me feel like I'm really able to use information right away, especially because then I can share that information with other women.
And on the off chance you were asking for other types of book recommendations, not specifically feminist readings, here are some of my favorite non-fiction picks:
I'll Be Gone in The Dark - Michelle McNamara
Rise of the Warrior Cop: The Militarization of America's Police Forces - Radley Balko
Survival of the Richest: Escape Fantasies of the Tech Billionaires - Douglas Rushkoff
Buy-ology: Truth and Lies About What We Buy - Martin Lindstrom
Brandwashed - Martin Lindstrom
Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking - Susan Cain
And I'm a quarter of the way into Cynical Theories: How Activist Scholarship Made Everything About Race, Gender, and Identity by Helen Pluckrose and James Lindsay. It's a dense read but it's amazing and relevant, and I think I will do a recap of it once I'm finished.

Glynis Margaret Payne Johns (October 5, 1923 - January 4, 2024) Film, stage and television actress, dancer, musician and singer. In a career spanning eight decades on stage and screen, Johns appeared in more than 60 films and 30 plays. She has received various accolades throughout her career, including a Tony Award, a Drama Desk Award, a National Board of Review Award, and a Laurel Award, in addition to nominations for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Laurence Olivier Award. She is widely considered as being one of the last surviving major stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood and classical years of British cinema.
Johns made her television debut in 1952 with Fletcher Markle's Emmy Award-winning series Little Women. She appeared in just one episode: season 4's "Lilly, the Queen of the Movies" as Lily Snape. Her television credits of the 1950s include brief appearances in the Hollywood anthology series Lux Video Theatre (in the 1953 episode "Two For Tea"), Errol Flynn's anthology series The Errol Flynn Theatre (in the 1956 episodes "The Sealed Room" as Lou McNamara and "The Girl in Blue Jeans" as The Girl Susan Tracey), CBS's anthology series Schlitz Playhouse of Stars (in the 1957 episode "The Dead Are Silent"), and ABC's variety and drama series The Frank Sinatra Show (in the 1958 episode "Face of Fear" as Christine Nolan)
Johns was cast in 1961 in the ABC/Warner Bros. crime drama The Roaring 20s. She portrayed Kitty O'Moyne, an Irish immigrant who falls overboard into the harbour as she arrives in the United States. Johns guest-starred in the CBS anthology seriesThe Lloyd Bridges Show in the episode "A Game for Alternate Mondays" of the 196263 television season, playing widow Leah Marquand, with Leslye Hunter as her daughter Isabella. On 5 August 1963, Vacation Playhouse premiered the episode "Hide and Seek" as the pilot of her eponymous CBS television series Glynis. The original working title for the series was The Glynis Johns Show; in it, Johns played the neophyte mystery writer and amateur sleuth Glynis Granvile. In the autumn of that year, Glynis officially premiered, starring Johns and Keith Andes as a married couple, Glynis Granville and Keith Granville, a criminal defence attorney. Due to pressure from NBC's The Virginian and Bill Cullen's The Price Is Right game show on ABC, the programme was cancelled after thirteen episodes. In 1965, when CBS reran the series as a summer replacement for The Lucy Show, Glynis ranked #6 in the Nielsen ratings. Johns remained busy on screen, appearing as Steffi Bernard in the episode "Who Killed Marty Kelso?" of ABC's detective series Burke's Law opposite Gene Barry. In 1967, she appeared in four episodes of the Batman television series as villainess Lady Penelope Peasoup, one half of the evil duo with Rudy Vallée as her brother Lord Marmaduke Ffogg.
During the first season of NBC's hit sitcom Cheers, Johns guest-starred as Diane Chambers' mother, Helen Chambers, an eccentric dowager who, due to a stipulation in Diane's late father's will, will lose all her money unless Diane is married by the next day. In 1985, Johns played Bridget O'Hara in the episode "Sing a Song of Murder" of CBS's crime drama television series Murder, She Wrote, working again with Angela Lansbury. From 1988 to 1989, she played Trudie Pepper, a senior citizen living in an Arizona retirement community, in the television sitcom Coming of Age, also on CBS. Dominic Sherwood
Dominic Sherwood Movies and TV Shows, Wiki, Biography, Girlfriend, Height, Age and Net Worth
The multi-talented English actor and model Dominic Anthony Sherwood has made an enduring impression on the entertainment world. He has won the hearts of many thanks to his mesmerizing performances in films and TV shows as well as his musical skills. We will look into Dominic Sherwood’s biography, career, and fascinating details in this in-depth blog post.
Dominic Sherwood Wiki / Biography
Dominic Sherwood was born on February 6, 1990 (as of now 33 years old) in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England. His parents are Mary Summons and Alfred Sherwood. Dominic is one of five siblings—three brothers and a sister—who make up his family. While many parts of his life are publicly known, his religious convictions are kept a secret.
He has sectoral heterochromia, a condition that causes the retina, which is the colorful portion of the eye, to change colors. Because of the disorder, he has two different-colored eyes: one blue and one that is half-blue and half-brown.
Dominic went to Maidstone’s Oakwood Park Grammar School for his secondary studies. His love of theater and drama began to take shape at this time. He left to work abroad after completing his theater and drama studies in Maidstone and Sevenoaks. He started working for the organization in Kenya and remained there for six months before moving to London. He had only just begun his path into the entertainment industry.
When he was 18 years old, he and his friends formed the band “Tamarin Sky” in 2008.
Career
Dominic Sherwood’s journey in the entertainment industry started with small roles, but it didn’t take long for him to make a significant impact. Here are some key highlights from his career:
In 2010, he made his acting debut as Jack Simmons in the third season of “The Cut.”
The year after, he appeared as a waiter named Tom in the “Sadie J” episode “Cherylistic.”
He played a youthful Mick Jagger in the drama movie “Not Fade Away” in 2012, and it was a small but memorable part.
His big break came in 2014 when he played Christian Ozera in the parody horror movie “Vampire Academy,” which was based on the Richelle Mead book of the same name.
He became well-known in 2015 after making an appearance in Taylor Swift‘s music video for the smash hit “Style.”
The Freeform fantasy drama series “Shadowhunters,” which is based on Cassandra Clare’s “The Mortal Instruments” book series, cast Dominic in the role of Jace Herondale in April 2015.
He added to his career by co-starring in “Billionaire Ransom” with Ed Westwick and Jeremy Sumpter and by playing a supporting role in “Don’t Sleep” with Drea de Matteo and Cary Elwes.
He appeared in the 2020 television drama “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels,” a dark fantasy series that was canceled after one season.
It was revealed in September 2021 that Dominic Sherwood would play the title character in “Eraser: Reborn,” an adaptation of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “Eraser” from 1996.
Sherwood has displayed his acting talent in the Netflix original series “Partner Track,” which was adapted from the same-titled book by Helen Wan.
Along with co-star Katherine McNamara, Dominic expanded his career by beginning to host the “Return to the Shadows” podcast, which is a treat for “Shadowhunters” fans.
Awards Nominations
The entertainment sector has taken note of Dominic Sherwood’s talent. In the following categories, he was nominated:
Choice TV Actor: For “Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments” at the 2018 Teen Choice Awards.
Choice TV Actor: For “Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments” at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards.
Choice Ship for “Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments” at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards.

theres something to be said about WHICH terrible woman media we are talking about here because. importantly, both mean girls and heathers have VERY different plot points. war and peace American High School Au is a very interesting alley to go down, but there are interesting dichotomies in each. (im positing pierre is veronica and andrei is jd simply because of the drama and the drama alone).
see i think in mean girls, the predator motif that regina has SCREAMS fedya to me. but heather chandler's fixation with shame is also very helene. i think in heathers, fedya is more jd coded due to the fixation with revenge violence, but mean girls regina is fedya because they are both VERY interested in making other people sick in the head paranoid.
anatole being mcnamara and karen is funny. put that man through clinical depression.
this is quickly becoming a thesis so i will round it all off by trying to figure out who's specifically being tortured here. natasha HAS to be katie heron marya is janis and pierre is damien fun fact. NO clue who the calculus man is. anatole could be him too. anything can happen. im very flattered you liked my tags but now i must ponder with you. alas
Tumblr media
Btw i love this tag by @thalassous i'm trying to adapt the kuragin-dolokhov trio into classic mean girl archetypes now. On one hand fedya is the most Actually Evil of them so he could take the queen bee spot. In this case Helene would be the deceptively quiet second in command and anatole would fit naturally into the brainless bimbo slot. However Helene's socialite status also makes her a natural fit for the queen bee spot while fedya has those themes of envy and social climberism that i love to explore so he could be the resentful second in command. On the third hand anatole is the most nepobaby, doesn't have to put in any work, never experienced a consequence, effortlessly popular bitch ever and i do tend to write both fedya and helene as bitterly aware of his privilege over them in that way - so he could be his own special kind of queen bee with the other two as his "underlings". Much to ponder.
Actually the real question is who's veronica and jd
