※ 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a]neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. // Romans 8:38-39 #HeFightsForYou / #MaxLucado /

"The Lord is a Warrior"
Tumblr media
Adam Currence
Grey hair? Check. Long beard? Yep. Long white robe? Uh-huh. Deep voice? Yes. Huge throne, angels everywhere, cloudy floor? Most definitely. Believe it or not, I just described what the majority of Americans see when they think of God. How do you think about him? Most see him as passive. He sits around “up there” and kind of just does what he pleases. After all, he IS God. If one had to choose a word to describe God, he or she might choose words such as “nice,” “friendly,” “fatherly,” “loving,” and so on and so forth; These are all perfectly normal descriptions of God. Now let’s be honest here: how many people would choose to describe God as a warrior? I find it interesting that “warrior” is the exact word the Israelites chose to describe God in Exodus 15:3.
“The LORD is a warrior; The LORD is His name.”
(Exodus 15:3 NASB)
What had the Israelites just witnessed? Yahweh had just rescued his people from Egyptian bondage in dramatic fashion. After showing that he was superior to all other Egyptian gods through the miracles of Moses, he then proceeded to part the Red Sea so that His people could pass through, only to have it crush down on the incoming Egyptian army. “The horse and his rider he has hurled into the sea” the people sang in Exodus 15:1. Truly, they felt as if a warrior was fighting for them. After plagues, pestilence, and the death of their firstborn, do you think the Egyptians would have described God as a nice guy? They too might have called him a warrior.
“The LORD will go forth like a warrior, He will arouse His zeal like a man of war. He will utter a shout, yes, He will raise a war cry. He will prevail against His enemies.”
(Isaiah 42:13 NASB)
“The LORD your God is in your midst, A victorious warrior.”
(Zephaniah 3:17 NASB)
There are many things that could be said about God as a warrior. We could talk about how we are made to bear his image, and therefore each of us is a warrior (in a sense). But I want to zero in on eradicating that nice-grandfather picture of God that we have. Sure, there is a place for that side of God. However, we often completely forget about the other side of God. Maybe it is hard for us to understand, or it makes us feel uncomfortable, or is politically incorrect. Whatever the reason, it is time to rethink God. He fights. He’s a warrior. He takes on battles where it seems as if the odds are against him, and yet he always comes through. Just think about these odds: he put His church into the hands of fallible human beings. He chose an ex-murderer to be the greatest preacher of all time. He selected a nomadic, small, grumbling nation to be his chosen race. And on and on and on. Over and over and over in scripture, God faces seemingly insurmountable odds, he fights, and he comes through in victory.
But here’s the most important thing: He has carried on the fight through Jesus. In a battle for your soul, God has gone through incredible lengths to give you a way of redemption, a way of salvation. It’s only possible if you accept Jesus and are baptized in his name. You see, he didn’t just “hang it up” after fighting all of those battles in the Old Testament. The Lord is a warrior, the Lord is his name.
