Hebe ‘Franciscana Variegata’ (Syn. H. X franciscana ‘Variegata’ or H. ‘Silver Queen’ (currently what the RHS accepts as correct)) today’s #oneadayplant. . As a member of the Hebe Society, I am interested in a great many varieties. Join the society and follow on social media @hebesociety. As a commercial horticulturist, I am aware of how commonly seen this plant is in seasonal bedding schemes. It is, however, perfectly hardy, doing particularly well in coastal gardens. While most people grow it in winter window boxes and hanging baskets it is just as happy in pots, containers or even in the ground. . Though the name is constantly in question, the one I have gone with is my preferred. That is even ignoring the fact that Hebe has undergone a name change and are now called Shrubby Veronica. Madness!!! . I’m not generally a fan of variegated plants, but I have long liked this plant.
