Have you heard….
Premise: Naveen Banerji has always enjoyed Edenbrook’s rumor mill, but he can’t share the biggest secret of all.
Book: Open Heart Characters: Naveen Banerji; feat. Ethan Ramsey x F!MC (Cassie Valentine) Rating/Category: Teen. Fluff. Words: 865
A/N: I'm using @choicesflashfics week 61, prompt 1. Set during early second year of Liaverse.
One of Naveen Banerji’s earliest memories was of listening to Amma and Aunties exchange gossip over a cup of tea and Parle biscuits. He might have been four or five at the time; who knew after all this time? But the memory of those afternoons was as clear as day.
He could still feel the heat of Kolkata summers as he sat on a stool in the shaded courtyard of his family’s house, the coolness of the steel tumbler between his palms and the taste of sweet mango juice his mother poured for him in lieu of tea. Hear the joyous laughter of the ladies and the lighthearted teasing among the Aunties.
Naveen couldn’t abide malicious rumors designed to destroy someone’s career or bring them down. But harmless tea, as the kids called it, was good fun. And in a hospital like Edenbrook, there was plenty of it to go around and even more people who were willing to join in.
Of course, he never could convince his mentee to partake in some. Ethan Ramsey was stubborn about many things, but none more so than about this. Besides, he was often the subject of rumors, many unconfirmed, some way too fanciful to be credible, and others Naveen knew had a kernel of truth.
The harder Ethan tried to keep his private life private, the more rumors about him spread. And that made Naveen all the more determined to share gossip with his protégé if only to see the bewilderment on his face.
“Oh, for Christ’s sake, Naveen,” Ethan would gripe in exasperation. “Don’t these people have anything better to do?!?”
It was a pity he was on the executive floor now, Naveen mused absently as he strolled into Rumor Mill Central, aka the cafeteria. When he’d been head of diagnostics, he could often indulge his hobby at the nurses’ stations. Now, he had to practically go looking for gossip.
Naveen grabbed a pudding cup and an energy bar and made a beeline for the lunch counter where his partner in crime, Stella, still manned the cash register. She’d been at Edenbrook for more than ten years, and nothing got by her.
“Hello, old friend,” Naveen smiled, taking his wallet out of a back pocket. “How’s it going?”
“Oh, you know,” Stella commented as she slowly scanned his items. “The new interns are already getting on my nerves, but that’s not new. Have you heard…”
Stella trailed off and glared at the person who had stepped up behind Naveen. The other doctor turned red, mumbled an apology and practically ran toward the cashier station on the far end.
“Anyway,” Stella continued, voice dropping as she leaned in conspiratorially. “Everyone’s talking about your Dr. Ramsey. That beard he grew during his trip to the Amazon sure has tongues yapping. His stans are divided on which is sexier, the beard or the killer jawline with light scruff.”
Naveen chuckled, imagining Ethan’s reaction to people gossiping about his facial hair.
“Odds are ten to one that he’s shaving it off before the summer is out,” Stella continued before looking askance at him. “Well? Is he keeping it or shaving it? I could use some easy money.”
“Hmm, hard to say,” Naveen tapped his fingers against his lips. “But I have a feeling he’s planning to keep it for a while. Told me he’s grown attached to it.”
He and Stella exchanged a few more rumors, including a troubling one about Garrett Thorne. Naveen made a mental note to stay on top of that situation, said his goodbyes to Stella and slid into a corner booth to enjoy his snack.
Later, he was almost at the end of the hallway that would take him to the north elevator bank when he heard two people murmuring in an empty examination room, the door half ajar. His ears pricked when he recognized Ethan’s deeper voice and Cassie Valentine’s lighter tones.
Naveen moved closer, spying on the two doctors through the opening. They were standing close, facing each other. He glimpsed Cassie’s hand loosely clasped in Ethan’s and the teasing grin on her lips.
“Just admit it, Dr. Ramsey,” Cassie demanded, cocking her hips arrogantly. “We both know it’s true. From the moment we met last year.”
“I admit nothing, Dr. Valentine,” Ethan retorted, but the resulting scoff and challenging look from Cassie had him huffing in annoyance. “Fine. You’re my favorite.”
“Favorite what?”
“Everything.”
The single word delivered so definitively but in a gruff, awestruck tone was Naveen’s undoing. He felt the wetness pool in his eyes and blinked it away.
“I was going for favorite resident,” Cassie said softly, placing her hand on the side of his face and leaning in. “But I’ll take ‘everything’.”
Feeling like a voyeur, Naveen turned away from the tender and intimate moment between the couple and continued on his way. He couldn’t wait to call Alan and share this latest tidbit about his son.
As good as Edenbrook’s rumor mill was, no one knew the hottest tea of all. That the austere and occasionally demanding Dr. Ramsey was hopelessly in love with the new junior fellow of diagnostics and didn’t even know it.

RG Kar MCH the focal point of the Kolkata Rape and Murder Case. Only because monsters committed such a heinous crime with the Dr. Tilottoma.
Old articles are thought to show the numerous reported records which were ignored or unresolved.
--------------------------------------------------
1999:
The lone name to emerge from the shadows of 1999 was Madhusudan Sau, whose life reportedly ended in February of that year, leaving behind a veil of mystery and unanswered questions. No details have been shared or found about him, to date.
2001:
The mysterious death of fourth-year student Soumitra Biswas sparked allegations that he was murdered for attempting to expose a porn ring. Despite the arrest of a female student, Auromita Das, and police questioning members of the SFI, the case remains unresolved, with little progress made by the West Bengal Police CID.
2003:
In February 2003, two back-to-back incidents at RG Kar Medical College brought the total of suspicious deaths and suicides at the institution to four within a few years.
The cases include Arijit Datta (February 2003), who reportedly committed suicide by jumping off a hostel roof, and Praveen Gupta (February 2003), who survived a suicide attempt.
2016:
In October 2016, the decomposed body of RG Kar Medical College professor Gautam Pal, 54, was found in his locked South Dum Dum apartment. Police suspected a heart attack, as his bed was undisturbed, but blood stains, facial bruises, and the absence of a suicide note raised concerns. The contents of his stomach were preserved for poison testing.
2020:
In May 2020, 25-year-old trainee doctor Poulami Saha reportedly committed suicide by jumping from the 6th floor of the emergency building during the COVID-19 pandemic. While no suicide note was found, police indicated she had been suffering from depression. Conflicting reports suggested she may have jumped from the 11th floor, but the hospital did not confirm the suicide.
2023:
In January 2023, RG Kar Medical College student Sayan Mondal died during a trekking trip in Uttarakhand, marking a departure from previous incidents that occurred within the hospital. After reaching Brahmatal, Mondal collapsed while descending, suffering from severe breathing difficulties. He was rushed to Dewal Government Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
2023:
In August of 2023, intern Suvorojyiti Das, 23, from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, died from an apparent drug overdose. The Tala Police classified the case as 'unnatural death,' attributing it to an antidepressant overdose, and found no suicide note or evidence of foul play. Das was discovered unconscious by his family and died in the hospital’s critical care unit after being rushed there.
2023:
In September 2023, a final-year medical student accused Sandip Ghosh of ignoring a ragging complaint and threatening him to falsely claim the issue was resolved. Despite Ghosh’s transfers, he frequently returned to the hospital. The student reported enduring physical and mental abuse over three years and criticized Ghosh’s inaction and favouritism towards certain students.
...
The fact is that this fucker Sandip Ghosh initially declared her death as a 'suicide' too, but I guess the evidence were too big for him to tamper with.
There might be more unreported cases Between all these years, especially 2003-2016 which were either hidden or voices were silenced.
Shame on you TMC for standing beside this man.

I wanted to enlighten you about the rape case that happend in my country india.
The tragic rape and murder of the female trainee doctor at Kolkata’s R G Kar Medical College and Hospital have drawn nationwide outrage, leading to protests by junior doctors who have halted work to demand justice for the victim.
In the latest, while engaging with the students on Thursday, Suhrita Pal, the new principal of RGKMCH, lost her composure. In response to the horrifying rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor that occurred on Friday in the hospital's seminar hall, the demonstrating students demanded that Pal act right now.
A second-year postgraduate trainee doctor spent her night just like any other night. She had dinner with her juniors and decided to go take some rest at 2 am, early morning.
- Due to a lack of rest space in the hospital, the doctor decided to go rest in the seminar hall, considering it safe to rest.
- Cut to next morning when her body was discovered semi-nude inside a seminar hall on August 9, after she had been on duty the previous night.
The horrifying details of the case are that pelvic bone was broken like crushed she was found in us 90° angle like her legs were wide open in a 90 degree angle that means that her like the pelvic bone was broken apart and an Normal man can only ejaculate 15 g of semen even after 23 rounds of the intercourse but 150 g of semen was found in her body that means she was getting r**ed by 9 to 10 men justice is being denied the goons are being covered up but the case has been handed to the CBI technically the FBI of India so I will keep giving you more updates on this case but we really need international attention on this please kindly spread this so because she used to wear glasses the glasses were broken literally and the glass pieces were literally engraved inside her eyes she had very heavy vaginal bleeding it was horrifying literally horrifying so yeah please please read this Thank you.
This is absolutely disgusting!
How could someone do something like this? Men are giving us women more and more reasons to fear for our lives and no one is taking this topic seriously!
How the hell did 9-10 men sneak into this place and gang rape this woman to death without anyone hearing or giving a fuck?!?!!?
My heart goes out to the family and friends of the deceased 💜
I had no idea this happened so thank you for telling me! We need to spread awareness and take this "I hate men" mantra seriously and make people see how despicable and entitled men have gotten these days.
I wish I could do more but I hope getting her story out there will help in some sort of way 💜

Heavy tw for rape and murder
Hi scout , please understand that you absolutely don’t have to respond to this message . A horrible crime happened in my city where an on call doctor after 36 hours of duty went to rest in the seminar hall of the hospital where she was brutally raped and murdered in the most heinous way possible . Our country is slowly burning up with this news but I would really appreciate if it spread world wide in any way possible because it really is that deplorable . You’re the only person I know with a large following so do consider amplifying this news . Here are two links for detailed information:

hi anon 🩷 the graphic nature of the assault and murder horrified me and after i read a few articles pertaining to the case to ensure i fully understood what had happened, i was heartbroken to learn that this attack was hardly an isolated case. my heart aches for the pain and fear that this woman experienced in her final moments. reading that the accused man was previously reported to police before and never properly investigated is disturbing and i hope that she’s given the justice she deserves.

In the early hours of the morning, a 15 year old girl trudged out to the living room, pillow in hand, before light had even broken out over the horizon. It was 4:00 a.m. but the room was charged with a fervent sort of energy, a giddiness that finaly peaked when Birendra Krishna Bhadra's sonorous voice rang out with the first words- "আশ্বিনের শারদপ্রাতে".
It was মহালয়া- the beginning of 'দেবীপক্ষ'. I do not think that any words, except the ones privately spoken by each Bengali to Ma, of his wishes and woes, hopes and sorrows in silent prayers between the chants during Ashtami's Anjali, can convey the feeling in his heart as one by one, all the houses are filled with 'আগমনীর গান' while the sun slowly creeps into sight like a sleepy child unable to stay away from the excitement of all his aunts, uncles and older cousins huddled outside infront of the radio with tumblers full of steaming, milky tea.
There is a certain quiet beauty in the knowledge that every year since 1931 when the show first aired, Bengalis within Kolkata and without have been dutifully waking up at 4 o'clock to welome our Maa home. A five year old girl rubs her drowsy eyes infront of the radio as she hears the voice she will learn to eagerly wait for throughout the year when she grows older, for the first time. Lying propped up on the cushions in her hospital bed, much to the protest of her nurses, her great grandmother ruefully smiles when she realises that it would be her last time, and for a glorious hour and a half, the pain of the cancer in her liver bows down to মহিষাসুরমর্দিনী. A large joint family gathers in front of the antique record player, with endless cups of tea and aluminium tins of biscuits under the arches of their ancestral home in North Calcutta, where only a few days later, they would welcome their very own Ma Durga. In the servants' quarters, the 'rannar thakur' sits on the front steps of his tin roofed home with his thin daughter and thinner wife, and his stomach's grumbles of hunger are drowned out by the music carrying from the record player. A Muslim boy, not daring to tell his orthodox father, cycles to his Hindu classmate's house before the sun rises to catch the first strains of Aagomoni. For মহালয়া does not merely mark the coming of Ma, it marks the advent of hope in the form of our ten-armed Goddess for every Bengali, irrespective of his age, social standing or religion. Even if it may be just an old recording playing from some houses on the streets, to me and to any Bengali, it seems more like on one magical day every year, all the clouds in the sky strike up a wonderful heavenly orchestra of voices, filling all the empty spaces in the sky, till Ma Durga herself comes to fill up the place waiting for her on the mandaps and in our hearts.
