Summary: Hearing about an abandoned haunted house, you and most of your siblings go exploring, having to have pursuaded Anthony much in going. Forming pairs of two, you partner up with your brother Colin to explore. Not soon after the house let’s itself known by sounds, freaking Colin out. Equeally freaked out, you rather laugh at your brother. Reunited hear you all loud laughter which makes Anthony yell to take a run for it. The aftermatch ending in laughs and giggles.
Tumblr media
“Have you all heard of the abandoned house three blocks away from the market?” – Eloise said looking at another edition of Lady Whistledown. – “Vaguely.” – Daphne answered keeping her cup of tea on her lap. You sat beside Benedict as he nudged you. He kept nudging you till you finally looked at him. – “Why so?” – Daphne spoke as Benedict pointed at the tray of sweets on the table. You rolled briefly with your eyes with a loud sigh.
Reaching for some chocolates, you took a few. Benedict pointed at his mouth. You chuckled silently turning your posture more to him. – “It supposedly is haunted.” – Eloise informed, slapping the pamphlet down. You were tossing chocolates at your brother trying to aim for his mouth. The moment Eloise spoke those words, missed you deliberately his mouth out of shock. The chocolate hitting him in the eye, making your brother grunt in pain.
“Haunted you say?” – Benedict repeated with one eyes closed. You helped him clean any crumbs from his suit. Eloise hummed loud. Anthony snorted loud, lowering the newspaper he had been reading. – “Don’t be absurd.” – he spoke loudly. Slapping his newspaper back up to avoid interacting in the conversation more.
“How would you know, sister?” – you asked intrigued. – “Lady Whistledown.” – Eloise answered. – “Here take a look for yourself.” – she offered you the pamphlet. Francesca taking it from her, handing it to Daphne, to Colin to reach yours hands. – “Lady Whi-“ – Anthony said loudly, flipping his newspaper down. His cheeks bloated as he swallowed the insult back in.
“That woman should rather spend her time with writing actual facts then silly foolishness to scare little children!” – he made clear what his statement was about it. – “Perhaps you are not a believer brother.” – Eloise snapped mockingly at him. Anthony grunting, looking offended away. Benedict came leaning his head down on your shoulder to read along with you. – “She wouldn’t simply mention it if it was not the fact?” – Francesca pitched in with a shrug.
“It is an abandoned house!” – Anthony made clear. – “It does not necessary mean haunted.” – Gregory came running over to the stationed tables outside on the porch where you all retreated. – “What’s haunted?” – he asked having heard a snippet of the conversation. – “Nothing.” – Anthony said quickly.
“The old, abandoned house near the market.” – Eloise told him. – “The one with the three raven statues on top?” – Gregory asked seeing his sister nod. Anthony turned his head in shock at his little brother. – “How do you even know?” – he wanted to know. Gregory reached for a sweet, stuffing it in his mouth. – “It is what everyone talks about.” – he said, half chewing, half hearable. – “See even little Gregory believes.” – Eloise laid out to poke her brother’s stubbornness a bit more. Colin tapped you on the knee to have a look for himself. You gave him the edition of Lady Whistledown.
Benedict keeping his head on your shoulder as he enjoyed laying this careless against you. – “Maybe we should take a look?” – you suggested. Eloise gripping her chair’s railing tight. – “I like your thinking sister!” – she smiled wickedly and full of mischief. – “Count me in!” – Benedict answered moving his head from your shoulder to your lap to lay better down on the bench you shared. – “Me four!” – Gregory cheered loudly, jumping up and down. – “No! no-no-no!” – Anthony insisted. He slapped his newspaper down on the table, getting up. – “No one is to investigate this nonsense!” – he made clear.
Benedict and Eloise puffed loud, making you laugh. – “Think of it as a way of a science experience, brother.” – Colin spoke putting the Whistledown out of reach. – “Presumably nothing will happen.” – he added with a little shrug. – “But what if it truly is haunted that would mean…” – Daphne spoke, the cup shuddering in her grip. Benedict and you humming loud.
He got up, pulling you with him. – “That would mean ghosts!” – he explained. – “Voices… whispers.” – he continued using you to act it out. He stood close behind you, speaking close to your ear to show Daphne. You chuckled as his hands tapped up your back. – “Touched by an invisible hand.” – he showed Daphne his clawed hand over your shoulder, making her squeal loud.
“Stop scaring her!” – Anthony slapped Benedict on his hand. – “There will be no haunting because we aren’t going!” – He insisted once more. Benedict moved up to him, laying his arm on his shoulder. – “Scared brother, you might see the dead beyond the grave?” – Anthony swallowed nervously, finding it anything but funny.
Colin chuckled in himself. – “I am. Not!” – Anthony made clear with a stern stare. – “Well then, let us put it to the test.” – Benedict patted his brother against his chest with a goofy smile. Anthony sighed loud, letting his head fall back. You jumped up and down, dancing around Colin. Eloise cheered overexcitedly with Gregory, hopping round in circles. Daphne touched her heart, in a way to calm herself. Francesca unbothered with the outcome.
At night you all sat in the carriage on your way to the ‘haunted house’. – “We need a set of rules.” – Anthony said looking at everyone. – “We go in pairs.” – he spoke out with a fatherly scowl. – “No one leaves anyone behind, did I make myself clear!” – you all nodded. – “Look after each other!” – he added. Eloise holding her finger up to copy her brother’s firm voice to mock.
“If you see a ghost, run towards it.” – she said making everyone laugh. – “No!” – Anthony called out. – “You run away!” – he tried to make clear as you all kept laughing. The carriage came to a stop as the laughing stopped. Anthony swallowed getting out as first. The rest followed, looking up at the abandoned house with three raven statues on the roof.
Some windows had been broken as a part of the white see-through curtains blew in and out due to the soft breeze. – “Pair up!” – Anthony ushered before anyone would enter. Benedict welcomed a giddy Eloise on his arm. Colin nudged your arm, claiming you as his partner. Anthony was hesitant to either take little Gregory for protection or Daphne who clearly was frightened to the bone before even setting foot in the house.
He eventually settled with Daphne, hoping to sooth her fear a bit. Gregory joined Francesca who seemed rather cool on the outside. – “You all know the rules!” – Anthony reminded everyone once more. Benedict and Eloise went in first, opening the door with a creaking sound. Eloise shuddered at the gush of wind coming her way. You entered next with Colin, holding onto his arm. Cobwebs and dust leaving a thick layer of filth on the floor. Spiderwebs and cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and covering most of the things.
Half burned rotten candles in the chandelier. An old moldy smell waving over you. It made you pinch your nose, needing to adjust to the smell. All of you looked slightly terrified at each other trying to hide it underneath a brave mask. Then you separated. Colin and you went up the stairs. Sticking close to your brother.
On the upper level, you stood before a dilemma. Left, or right? Colin asked you which way you wanted to go. You looked both ways, feeling a shiver down your spine. – “Left…” – you answered nervously. Looking carefully over your shoulder, led Colin you to the left. – “So what do we do?” – he asked you, keeping his voice down. You pulled your shoulders up. – “I don’t know… walk around till anything haunting makes itself aware?” – you responded. Colin and you arrived at a first door.
The doorknob dusty, making Colin use his sleeve as a glove. He turned to open the door as the doorknob busted loose. He looked with wide surprised eyes at the doorknob in his hands, having broken it off. It made you laugh loud. He threw the doorknob over his shoulder. It fell with a loud thud on the hard floor, followed by hearing muffled voices from downstairs. Colin and you snorted, knowing for a fact one of your siblings would be scared now from your little action.
Colin and you continued to walk down the corridor. Colin pulled you to a firm stop, having heard a creaking sound. – “Have you heard that?” – he asked you, holding a finger up while observing the corridor. – “No… what did you hear?” – you asked, suddenly hearing the sound again at the end of your sentence. Like someone stepping on a wooden floorboard. Colin grabbed for your hand, squeezing it tightly out of fright.
“Do you… do you think it was?” – he asked cautiously. – “It…it is an old house… maybe it was just…” – you answered in the hope to give it an explanation. Colin nodded nervously. – “Ye-ye-yes you are right… it’s an old house…” – he calmed himself or at least tried to. You went further down the hall, Colin clutched onto your hand like a save haven. He jumped out of his skin, hearing something thud against the window from within a room. – “It’s here…” – he panicked, backing away.
You were startled as well, but not that frightened as your brother. – “Should I take a look?” – you suggested. You didn’t wait for an answer, opening the door you heard the noise from. You walked inside as Colin gasped loud, hurrying over to you. He held onto your shoulders, hiding behind you as you peered inside. Suddenly he screamed in a pitch higher you thought was possible for him. You looked around confused, seeing him jump and slap his hand near his ear.
“What is it, Colin?” – you asked, not able to hide your amusement. – “I heard it speak!” – Colin shrieked out. – “It whispered in my ear!” – he shuddered with his shoulders to get the feeling of him. You busted out in laughter. – “I’m serious Y/n, this place is haunted.” – he looked suspiciously around, making himself smaller. That only made you laugh louder.
“Are you scared Colin? Of an old house?” – you said having the time of your life. – “It isn’t laughable Y/n! This place is haunted.” – he made clear, seeming like a mad man to you. You walked over to him as he gripped onto your arm. – “How about we go downstairs to rejoin with the others?” – you offered as he immediately agreed. Both of you went downstairs hearing loud footsteps upstairs from where you just came.
Colin grabbed you by the hand, rushing down the last steps with you. Almost everyone had returned near the entry way beside Eloise and Benedict. – “I want to go home.” – Daphne cried out. Gregory took shelter underneath Francesca’s arm, who had a frightful look on her face. Finally Eloise and Benedict appeared looking not so brave anymore. You were the only one standing sturdy. Then laughter filled the open space, making everyone scream their lungs out. – “Out! Everyone out!” – Anthony yelled in utter panic. Eloise picked up her skirt, heading for the door.
Benedict almost threw himself out of the door that Eloise opened hard. Daphne running out, swaying her hands above her head. – “Out! Out! Out!” – Anthony kept yelling grabbing you firmly by the elbow. He ran with you out of the house, not bothering to close the door. He pushed you into the carriage. His foot barely inside as the carriage got in motion, making him hop in before he would tumble to the ground.
Everyone catching their breath, nothing but loud breathing filling the silence. Your gaze met up with Benedict snorting loud. That little sound of yours set everyone off. Now laughter held the advantage, beaming through the carriage. Laughing at all what you had experienced. For it was an experience none would forget.
