The AAP recommends a behavioral therapy technique called "parent training in behavior management," or PTBM, as first-line treatment for ADHD kids ages 4 and 5.
(...)
Instead, parents often are given general advice that wouldn't be out of place in any well-child visit -- cut back on sugar, establish good habits and limit screen time.
In fact, more preschoolers were prescribed ADHD medications than were referred for PTBM therapy, even though AAP guidelines say drugs should be considered only if behavior therapy doesn't provide significant improvement.
"The reason [PTBM] is recommended is based on evidence. There's more evidence for its effectiveness when we compare it to medications," said lead researcher Dr. Yair Bannett, an instructor of developmental-behavioral pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine.
PTBM therapy focuses on parents, rather than their child with ADHD.
Parents undergo training that teaches them skills and strategies in positive reinforcement, structure and consistent discipline, as well as positive ways to interact and communicate with their child, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“kids who use screens a lot are more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD”
have you considered that maybe a novelty-seeking brain (as seen with ADHD) is more likely to seek that novelty through devices?
have you considered that ADHD is something you’re born with, and not something you’re given as a punishment for lack of discipline?
have you considered that you should shut the fuck up?

You know, the thing I don’t get is, with ADHD they have realized that training the parenst isthe best way to help the kid:
“The AAP recommends a behavioral therapy technique called "parent training in behavior management," or PTBM, as first-line treatment for ADHD kids ages 4 and 5.”
https://www.upi.com/Health_News/2021/10/19/Most-newly-diagnosed-kids-with-ADHD-not-getting-best-care-study-says/4521634673937/
So ... why not do the same for the parenst of autistic kids?
Just tell them that a shower might feel like needles to the kid ... so instead of breaking the kid in to submission just try something different ... maybe a bath works better ... or a sponge bath with a realyl soft flanel ... or maybe just let the kid sometimes stay dirty (except for hands and teeth*) it will not die if you don’t house it down twice a day with an induytr cleaner ... promis ...
Like tell the parenst that talking is hard and that it is perfectly acceptable for the child to use gestures or one of those speech boxes ... or both
Tell them that sometimes it’s just a bad day and nothing works and autistic kids are allowed to have those too. Like, everyone has bad days ...
Just tell the parenst that it is O.K.
It is O.K.
*Yeah I know that is an issue too because of sensory issues, but a dentist intervening is even worse (going to a doctor strage smells, strangers, weird tols, needles etc ... ) ... so that is something where a solution should be found in some way shape or form ... how ever that form looks in the end, as long as it involves more or less clean teeth and more or less clean hands
There are all kinds of options these days
https://www.tumblr.com/glorioustidalwavedefendor/706383912182644736
Just throw it all to the wall and see what sticks ...
Let’s talk about ABA therapy. ABA posts outside this thread will be removed.: autism
A whole Reddit for discussing why Applied Behavioral Analysis is awful and should never be used in any form because we're not dogs and even dogs shouldn't be trained like that? Sounds good.

In relation to the post you made 6 days ago where you shared an image of a newsite making the claim that calm parents can help calm kids with adhd, everywhere i have looked i struggle to find anything related to a study which could inspire such an article, that said i found webmd which listed a source(Alexander Fiks, M.D., associate professor, pediatrics, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia; Theodore Beauchaine, Ph.D., professor, psychology, Ohio State University, Columbus; Nov. 7, 2017,Clinical Psychological Science) but all research I’ve done in relation the source reveals no study, so now I’m coming to you, the original blog which made me start looking into this claim, to ask you if you could source the study for me, given how all research I’ve done has revealed none which would mean, while i do believe the claim to be real, you are the blog which i saw make the original claim and so now i would hope you source your claim so as to strengthen our ability to help people with ADHD.
the post is actually very old but sure https://www.upi.com/Health_News/2017/11/17/Calm-parents-can-help-kids-with-ADHD-master-their-emotions-behaviors/2461510923430/

Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Rates of methamphetamine overdose deaths in the United States increased five-fold from 2011 to 2018, according to an analysis published Wednesday by JAMA Psychiatry.
Methamphetamine-involved deaths rose, on average, by nearly 30% per year in the general population across the country between 2011 and 2018, the data showed.
…
Operated by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Vital Statistics System tracks all births and deaths nationally.
Between 2011 and 2018, rates of methamphetamine-involved deaths nationally increased from 1.8 to 10.1 per 100,000 men and from 0.8 to 4.5 per 100,000 women, the data showed.
Over the eight-year period studied, overdose deaths increased by an average of 29% per year for men and 28% per year for women, according to the researchers.
Non-Hispanic American Indians or Alaska Natives had the highest number of overdose deaths, as they increased from 5.6 to 26.4 per 100,000 men and from 3.6 to 15.6 per 100,000 women, or about a 25%-per-year rise, the researchers said.
Non-Hispanic Whites had the second highest number, as they rose from 2.2 to 12.6 per 100,000 men and from 1.1 to 6.2 per 100,000 women, a nearly 30%-per-year increase, according to the researchers.
