1903: Trans men discreetly living their authentic lives

1903: Trans men discreetly living their authentic lives
Who knows how many trans men manage to live their lives without public intrusion? In 1903, the Brisbane Truth reported on the death of a Melbourne military figure.
“Not long ago, there died in Victoria, a person who for many years had belonged to the Mounted Rifles. One of the company who acted as escort to the Governor at Flemington on Cup Day. This person had no beard, and it is related that the Governor’s party used to joke about his ugliness. He was a splendid horseman, and carried off prizes for quickness and neatness in drill. Had he lived, he would have commanded one of the Victorian contingents in South Africa. He was much esteemed and respected by all the troopers, and Colonel Tom Price was very proud of him.
“He joined with glee in the smutty story-telling, and used the conveniences of the camp like the other troopers. During the maritime strike, he was one of the troopers set apart for the work of shooting down and laying ’em out. When he died in a country town in Victoria, a few years ago, the doctor called in to attend upon this warrior bold discovered him to be a woman.
“It was an old woman on horseback that the lively aides joked about as they drove to the Cup, and an old woman in breeches was one of Victoria’s most distinguished heroes in the terrible and blood-curdling sham fights which periodically take place in Albert Park.”

How Cremations Provide A Cost-Effective Funeral Option?
Funeral expenses can quickly add up, placing a significant financial burden on families already dealing with the emotional stress of loss. In recent years, Brisbane cremations have become an increasingly popular choice for those seeking a more affordable funeral.
Cremation offers families a cost-effective way to lay their loved ones to rest with dignity without the high costs associated with traditional burial services. This blog explores how cremation provides a practical and economical alternative to conventional funeral practices.
Lower Funeral Service Costs
One of the primary financial advantages of cremation is the reduction in funeral service costs. Traditional funeral services often require the purchase of an expensive casket, embalming, and a burial plot, all of which can result in significant expenses. These costs are generally avoided with cremations.
Cremation typically involves a simpler process that does not require the purchase of a casket, saving families thousands of dollars. As a result, cremation offers a more affordable funeral option while still maintaining the respect and dignity that the deceased deserves.
Simplified Process Means Fewer Fees
Traditional funerals often involve a range of hidden fees. These can include charges for the funeral home, transportation, embalming, and additional services that may not always be necessary. In contrast, cremations typically involve fewer services and a more streamlined process.
Many cremation providers offer all-inclusive packages that cover essential services such as collecting the deceased, cremating, and returning the ashes. These packages allow families to avoid unexpected costs, ensuring the funeral arrangements are within a reasonable budget.
Elimination of Cemetery Plot Costs
A traditional burial requires purchasing a cemetery plot, which can be expensive, particularly in urban areas like Brisbane. The cost of a plot, along with ongoing maintenance fees, can add considerable financial strain to funeral expenses.
Cremation, however, eliminates the need for a cemetery plot entirely. Families opting for Brisbane cremations can choose to keep the ashes in an urn, scatter them in a meaningful location, or even incorporate them into a memorial, all of which are less costly than a traditional burial. This flexibility allows families to honour their loved ones in a way that aligns with their financial capacity.
Flexible Memorialisation Options
While traditional funerals often require costly headstones and grave markers, cremation offers a wider range of memorialisation options that can be more budget-friendly. For example, families can choose from various urns at different price points, depending on their preferences.
Furthermore, the ashes can be turned into personalised items, such as jewellery or keepsake boxes, providing a meaningful and affordable alternative to traditional memorials. This flexibility in memorialisation makes Brisbane cremations a viable and cost-effective option for families seeking to honour their loved ones in a personal and meaningful way.
No Need for Embalming
Embalming is a process often required in traditional funerals to preserve the body for viewing. Still, it can be an additional and unnecessary expense, particularly if the body is not displayed for an extended period.
Cremation eliminates the need for embalming, thereby reducing funeral costs. Since cremations typically take place shortly after death, embalming is not required, allowing families to avoid this costly procedure.
Environmental and Financial Benefits
In addition to its financial advantages, cremation can be a more environmentally conscious choice. Traditional burial practices consume land and may involve the use of chemicals such as formaldehyde during embalming.
Conversely, cremation has a smaller environmental impact and can be an environmentally friendly way to honour the deceased. This makes cremations a cost-effective choice and one that aligns with sustainable values.
Conclusion: A Respectful and Economical Choice
Cremation provides a practical and cost-effective alternative to traditional funeral services, offering significant savings without compromising the dignity of the deceased. Brisbane cremations help families avoid many of the high costs associated with conventional funeral practices by eliminating the need for a casket, cemetery plot, and embalming.
With flexible options for memorialisation and a simplified process, cremation allows families to say goodbye meaningfully and respectfully while maintaining financial peace of mind.

Granite Headstones: Use a soft brush and mild detergent to clean granite. Avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the surface.
Marble Headstones: Marble can be more delicate, so use gentle cleaning methods to avoid scratching the surface.
Angel Headstones: Be cautious when cleaning detailed carvings to preserve their intricate design.

Baby Cremation Services in Brisbane
Baby Cremation Services in Brisbane can be tailored to meet your family’s unique needs. Whether you choose to hold a service before, during or after cremation or burial you can have a service that is personalised to your cultural beliefs and religious requirements.
Talk to your Funeral Director for further information. They can recommend ceremony specialists to create meaning and ritual at this sacred event. To know more about Baby Cremation Services in Brisbane, visit the Farewell Funerals website or call 0404660974.
Cremation is one of the options available for a final resting place. It involves placing the body inside a purpose built cremator and exposing it to very high temperatures. The resulting ‘ashes’ can then be scattered or stored in a container.
If you choose Cremation, you can hold a funeral service before or during the cremation or a memorial service afterwards. The type of ceremony you have is a personal choice and can be influenced by your culture, beliefs or religion.
Funerals are not as rigid as they once were, and many people now choose to have a more creative celebration of life rather than a traditional service. Our warm and compassionate Funeral Arrangers can help you with this and ensure that the service you hold is meaningful. They will arrange for a celebrant to conduct the service. This may be an officiant provided by the funeral home or someone you know. They will also organise for music and photo presentations.
Choosing whether you want your baby/infant to be cremated or buried is a very personal decision and often comes down to religious beliefs, cost and the funeral service itself. The team at Tony Hollands Funerals understand that this is a difficult time for families and will work with you to ensure your baby’s funeral services meets your wishes and needs.
Burial involves a grave being dug and a coffin interred into it. Once the ceremony is over, the body is then returned to the family. Most cemeteries offer a chapel and services which can either be conducted by a Priest or a Celebrant.
Cremated remains are then returned to the family in a basic container which can be kept or you may choose to purchase an urn to keep them in (this is not compulsory). Some of the cemetery chapels have a condolence lounge where you can sit with friends and family after the service.
Located on the corner of Hemmant and Tingalpa Roads, Hemmant Cemetery is set amongst eucalypts and wattles. It is steeped in Queensland history, including the graves of bushrangers and early pioneers.
The cemetery offers lawn burials and memorial gardens and walls for cremation ashes. It also has a section dedicated to infants and babies.
Finding a grave is relatively easy, as most plaques are numbered and numbers run in sequence. However, the numbering of some older monuments is less clear. A cemetery area map may help locate a site.
Brisbane City Council maintains the cemetery grounds, including mowing and tree care. Burial Rights Holders and applicants are responsible for restoring and maintaining headstones or memorials. They must also keep their site clear of obstructions. Brisbane City Council has a search facility that allows you to find a grave by name or by allotment number. You can also use Find A Grave, an online service operated by the Australian National Trust.
We know the loss of a baby, even in early gestation, is an incredibly heartbreaking experience. We hope you find strength & support during this time.
We have a wide range of options to lay your baby to rest including burial and cremation. We can help you to arrange a service in a Chapel, Church or at the Graveside. You may want a private ceremony or one to invite family and friends. You can choose a resting place for your baby such as a Memorial Garden, Cemetery, an urn or keepsake jewellery. You can also choose to scatter your babies ashes in your garden or a favourite place. To know more about Baby Cremation Services in Brisbane, visit the Farewell Funerals website or call 0404660974.

Funeral Planning
While it may feel morbid, creating a funeral plan is a responsible and necessary step in ensuring that your wishes are met after your death. If you don’t have a plan, your loved ones will have to deal with planning the service while mourning your loss, and making these decisions can be emotionally exhausting. It’s also expensive.
It’s important to make sure you understand your options, which are many. Some things to consider include whether you want a public or private event, whether you want an open or closed casket, and what type of service you want. You can even choose to have a wake or vigil, and decide who you want to give a reading, eulogy, or tribute at the service.
You should also decide if you want to have a memorial service or reception, and who should be invited. You can also choose whether you want to display meaningful objects such as a sports jersey, vacation mementos, or a favorite book at the funeral home or graveside. You can decide if you want to have music at the service, and what type of musicians or songs you’d like to hear. And finally, you can decide where you want guests to send flowers or donations.
If you want to be buried, you will have to choose a cemetery and purchase a burial plot, or if you want to be cremated, you’ll need an urn. You’ll also need to decide if you want a graveside ceremony or a funeral planning service and what type of memorial marker or headstone you want (upright granite monument, flat bronze plaque, scattering garden inside or outside a cemetery, etc).
Besides deciding on the final disposition, you’ll have to choose what you would like your family members to wear during the viewing, whether you want a casket that opens or closes, and any other special requests you have. You can even select what you’d like to put in the casket if you’re having an open casket funeral, including personal items such as a sports jersey, book, or wedding photo.
It’s also a good idea to decide who you’d like your family members to call or write to to invite them to the service, and to create a list of people who you would like to be pallbearers, readers, or speakers at the service. And if you’d like, you can prepay for the service to help alleviate any financial burden on your family after your passing.
Once you’ve decided on your final arrangements and prepaid for them, you’ll receive a Statement of Funeral Goods and Services Selected. This is a legal document that outlines your arrangements and shows how much you paid for them. You should give a copy to your family so that they know what to expect when the time comes.
The last thing you want to happen after your death is for your family to argue over your funeral plans. And if you don’t have a plan in place, your family could spend hours, days or weeks trying to figure out what you want at a time when they’re grieving and struggling to cope.
Ruffles Funerals directors provide affordable burial and cremation funeral options in all areas of Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton Bay, Logan, Redlands, Gold Coast and Tweed Heads. We are knowledgeable about the resources available in your community and respectful of all religious beliefs and customs.

Cremation Services in Brisbane
Cremation services in Brisbane are becoming increasingly popular. This is because they are often cheaper than traditional funerals.
A memorial service can take place either immediately following a cremation or days or weeks later. It can be a religious or non-religious ceremony. To know more about Cremation Services in Brisbane, visit the Farewell Funerals website or call 0404660974.
A direct cremation is the cheapest funeral package in Queensland. Find out more in our Guide to Cheap Cremations.
A cremation is a method of final disposition that involves burning a body. This is a popular choice for many families because it can be less expensive than arranging a burial. It is also an option that is very respectful and dignified.
Before a cremation, the body is identified to ensure it is the person whose remains are being burned. This process will vary depending on the facility, but it typically involves having a family member confirm identity and putting a metal ID tag on the body.
After this, the body is placed in a furnace referred to as a retort and exposed to extreme temperatures for one to three hours. This will reduce the body to ashes, which are then transferred to a basic container or an urn supplied by the family.
Some people choose to keep the ashes or scatter them in bushland, on a beach or somewhere else meaningful to them. If this is what you want to do, your funeral director will help you with the arrangements.
When a cremation is arranged, the person who is organising it will work with a funeral director to plan a service (if desired) and determine the details of the cremation. The body is then taken to the crematorium in a casket or container that has been made for this purpose, or sometimes a simple cardboard box. The staff at the crematory will then prepare the deceased for the process, which typically includes bathing and dressing them.
They will also remove any jewellery the family wants to keep and any medical devices such as pacemakers or internal defibrillators. These are removed as they contain batteries which could explode during the cremation process.
Once the body is ready to be cremated, it will be placed inside a chamber that is pre-heated to around 1800 to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. The body is then reduced to ashes, which are collected from the chamber and stored in an urn or other container provided by the family.
As cremation becomes the most popular method of disposition, families are finding that it is an affordable and budget friendly option. If you choose a simple, direct cremation, it can cost as little as $1000. This includes basic services of the funeral director, transportation of the deceased to the crematory and a simple cardboard cremation container or temporary urn.
The average cremation costs about 45-50% less than a burial service, largely because you can avoid big purchases like caskets and headstones. Families can use these savings to plan a more meaningful celebration of life or memorial service for friends and family members.
If you want to hold a service before or after the cremation, additional costs can include musicians, pallbearers, food and beverages, programs, notices and more. Some funeral homes have these extra options available for you to choose from and can provide prices for each so you know what to expect. Alternatively, you can have a very simple service at home or with a few close friends and relatives.
In Brisbane there are two types of cremation services available. The first is called a direct cremation and is the cheapest option. This means that your funeral director will take the body and arrange for the cremation without organising a service.
The second option is a full service cremation. This is a traditional funeral with a service at the crematorium chapel and the use of a celebrant. This is generally the most popular option for families as it provides them with the opportunity to say goodbye in a way that feels right to them.
The ashes can then be kept in the family mausoleum or scattered at a place of significance. Some people choose to scatter the ashes in bushland or at sea which is a lovely and respectful way of saying goodbye. Alternatively, you could have your loved ones ashes turned into Diamonds or Gemstones which can be an incredible and memorable tribute. This process can be expensive so it is something that needs careful thought and discussion with your funeral director. To know more about Cremation Services in Brisbane, visit the Farewell Funerals website or call 0404660974.

Nowadays and ages the capability to switch over from one task track to another is not the sign of an indecisive mind. It is almost compulsory. Some tasks need added training. Among those tasks is the crane operator.
Crate training can be the path to an exciting and rewarding occupation. Currently, you might be stating you have heard this summary related to all type of different jobs and professions. In lots of instances, the declaration is exaggerated. This is not the case for crane drivers! Working as a crane operator can confirm to be a splendid profession that pays effectively in comparison to the mean wages made in the job market.
The possible to generate even higher earnings if the building market experiences a boom is likewise feasible. Then again, also when the industry remains in a lull, crane operators are required because it is challenging to relocate heavy objects without accessibility to a crane. Filling freight onto a ship, relocating products to the top of a structure, or clearing out debris in the consequences of an all-natural catastrophe will undoubtedly call for the use of a crane.
Of course, a crane is not an automated item of hefty devices machinery. It calls for an operator, and as long as there is demand for the solutions of a crane, there will be a demand for those that can operate a crane. Without such specialists and without the cranes they offer, a good deal of work would undoubtedly be incredibly time to take in, tiresome, and costly. In certain situations, the ability to do the operate at all would be difficult. Once again, this is why cranes and crane operators remain in substantial demand.
A lot more precisely, certified crane operators are in demand. Yes, experience counts for a great deal, and no person would recommend that experience should be overlooked.

Day 37 We are now on the tail end of this incredible journey but each day still presents and provides great interest and joy. Today was all about reverence. 100 years celebration since the end of World War 1. What could be more appropriate than being in the centre of where iso much happened, the Western Front. We visited the Australian War Memorial and were privileged to participate with about 2000 other invited guests, many Australians and many here to remember family members who were lost on the Western Front. There were a number of government representatives from both Australia and France. When we arrived in Villers Bretonneux we parked and boarded shuttle buses that took us the last 4 klm. When you arrive you take a walk through the graves around the memorial and when you see the number without names or details of origin it is not easy. On the walls of the memorial there are the names of 11000 serviceman whose bodies were never found. The unknown soldier in Canberra would be on these. The formal service was supported by singing from the AIF band and the Brisbane Birralee Choir and of course some coffee and croissants. As the formalities began so did the light rain and the ponchos appeared from everywhere. All attendees were given a bag with a poncho and great branded beanie and book. During the entire hour of the formal piece, which was televised back to Australia by the ABC, all the attendees showed the greatest respect for where they were. The last part was the laying of wreathes firstly by senior politicians from Australia and France, followed by organisations and a number of private folk honouring past family. One thing I was surprised about was that this region of the Western front in particular was defended by a very large percentage of Victorian soldiers, I mentioned that yesterday about Villers Bretonneux. Today after the first two wreathes laid the next was Queensland and not long after New South Wales and I think South Australia. Later the French Consulate for Victoria presented a wreath. Missing in my view was the State of Victoria, bad move Daniel, disappointed. Anyway the event was special to us. We went back to pick up the car and have some lunch then we came back to look at the Sir John Monash Centre which was a 2 hour journey, digitally presented, from the beginnings of the conflict to what happened after the War and why we were there. It uses great technology. You down load an App and the centre has free WIFI. Plug in your earphones. There is a sequence that you follow and the App recognises your location and provides the presentation. Would highly recommend a visit. It was after 4.30 before we left and as Janice and I walked through the headstones going to the car I think Janice summed it up so well. “I don’t feel worthy to be in their presence as they sacrificed so much and I have done so little”. Lest we forget. Tomorrow head south to Versailles.

The Daily Tulip — News From Around The World
Sunday 27th August 2017
Good Morning Gentle Reader…. Boy! it’s humid this morning, you could cut the air with a knife, should you want to that of course.. mist has rolled in from the ocean covering the town of Estepona with a blanket of fog.. must be thick out on the water where the fishermen are.. Bella and I walk in silence only the sound of the foghorns on the ships breaks the silence and the odd slamming of a car door as someone leaves, for I know not where… So No Stars, No Ships to be seen, just two friends walking silently back to the house for coffee and cool clear water…
‘YOU WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED’ HEADSTONE LEFT AT IRELAND AIRPORT…. A headstone with an ironic inscription was one of many bizarre items found abandoned at an airport in Ireland. The Dublin Airport Authority released a list of unusual items found at the airport lost and found, including a headstone with the inscription “you will always be remembered, never forgotten” that was left behind at a terminal, the Herald reported. Despite the reverent inscription, the headstone was forgotten in the departures area of Terminal One several years ago. Other unorthodox lost and found discoveries include a toilet, a life-size mannequin, human ashes, false teeth and a glass eye. Dublin Airport Authority spokeswoman Audrey O’Hagen said many passengers attempt to bring pets through security, which in one case resulted in the pet being left behind. “Just two weeks ago, somebody tried to bring a goldfish, so they had a goldfish in a two litre bottle of water they wanted to take away with them,” O’Hagen told Dublin’s 98FM radio station. “They couldn’t, so believe it or not, that fish has since been re-homed by a staff member here and it’s in their fish pond in Malahide.” O’Hagen added that any lost items can be claimed by filing a report on the DAA’s website. “You can log it online using an online form and if you’re looking to see if your item has arrived into lost property, we update that website or you can email [email protected],” she said.
POLISH BISHOPS FOR TOTAL BAN ON SUNDAY SHOPPING…. Poland’s leading Catholic bishop has spoken out in favour of an almost complete ban on shops opening on Sunday, amid growing public controversy over the proposal. “Free Sundays are what all Catholics, non-Catholics and non-believers need,” Archbishop Stanislaw Gadecki told Polish Radio ahead of a meeting of the Bishops Conference on Friday, which is expected to support the ban. The idea was put forward last year by the powerful Solidarity trade union, backed by a million-strong petition, and has been batted back and forth in a parliamentary subcommittee ever since. The clerics are careful to base their argument on quality of life rather than religious grounds. “Families don’t just need financial support, they need time for themselves,” said the Archbishop of Katowice, Wiktor Skworc. He appealed to the government to “show some compassion for women in the form of those who have to work in supermarkets on Sundays”, and accused it of showing “contempt” for Solidarity and the bishops by delaying consideration of the ban. He also warned local MPs and senators that he expected them to vote “in line with the views of their voters,” the Wirtualna Polska website reports.
TEEN VOTERS CHANGE ESTONIAN ELECTION DYNAMIC…. Political parties in Estonia are offering skate parks and other teenager-friendly policies when 16- and 17-year-olds vote for the first time in forthcoming local elections. Around 24,000 young people are shifting the dynamic in October’s municipal elections, and the country’s politicians are making big promises in an effort to secure their votes, the Postimees newspaper reports. Promising a stake park is Tallinn mayoral candidate Rainer Vakra, who notes that official attempts to discourage skating in the city’s Freedom Square only resulted in youths using newly-installed barriers to “grind” their boards against. “I listened to the real experts,” he said of his young potential voters. But his approach has been condemned by his political rivals. Mart Helme of the Conservative People’s Party accuses him of “brainwashing students”, and says that “politics should be kept out of schools”, as debate rages as to whether teenagers are mature enough to recognise election issues. One person who thinks teenagers deserve the vote is 15-year-old Joosep Kaan, who will turn 16 in time to take part in October’s poll. Writing in Postimees as a member of the Estonian Student Council, he says that “the right to vote will increase the motivation for young people to be informed and talk about issues”. Saying that new voters are probably better informed than older generations due to their immersion in social media, Kaan still thinks youngsters — especially in urban areas — will have their heads turned by big election promises. “A skate park here, a bicycle path there. Young people are rather ignored in smaller places,” he says.
PAIR SELL HOME TO REPAIR RUSSIAN SUSPENSION BRIDGE…. Two Russian men have sold an apartment, car and a garage in an attempt to reconstruct a suspension bridge in Russia’s Far East. Yuri Vasilyev and Yevgeny Levin have spent 10m roubles ($170,000; £132,000) over three years to rebuild the bridge in Russia’s Altai after it fell into neglect and was largely washed away in floods, Komsomolskaya Pravda news website reports. The men carried out the bulk of work themselves, but asked local residents for advice, and had a building company to oversee their workmanship. The bridge over the Katun river was neglected after its previous owner went bankrupt, the men explained. “It was sad to see. And it’s a shame because this bridge has history. It is Altai’s architectural landmark and we decided to save it,” Yuri Vasilyev told TJournal news website. They’ve not been able to restore the bridge to full use. While it was able to carry vehicles in the past, it’s now only considered strong enough for pedestrians. However, social media users seemed split over the restoration. A poll on Russian social network VKontakte revealed that a small majority thought it a futile undertaking, while 45.9% said the men had done the right thing. Some people questioned the men’s motivation, with one cynical newspaper commenter remarking “Yeah right, an era, history; this is not simply a bridge but a pot of gold”; while others applauded their work: “Well done! We are proud of such gold nuggets,” a VKontakte user said. But the pair insisted that they were not motivated by the lure of the rouble. “Money is not the most important thing. I want to be doing something useful and tell people about our land’s history,” Vasilyev said.
DANISH CROWN PRINCE FREDERIK ‘DENIED ENTRY TO AUSTRALIAN PUB’…. A Danish prince was temporarily denied entry to a bar in the Australian city of Brisbane because he did not have proper identification, local media say. Crown Prince Frederik, 49, and his entourage were reportedly only able to get into the bar with the help of diplomatic protection police officers. They are said to have told staff proof of ID in this case was not necessary. Queensland and other states in Australia have strict rules about entering premises which sell alcohol. In most cases, late-night drinkers in Queensland must have their passports or driving licences to prove their identities when entering establishments that stay open after midnight. The state government says the laws introduced in July are in place “to minimise the risk of alcohol-related harm”. Prince Frederik and his aides were in Brisbane for a yachting regatta, local media reported. They were only allowed into the bar after civil servants gave permission for the ID requirements to be waived. Bar co-owner Phil Hogan told the Brisbane Courier Mail that the new rules were “a nightmare”, and that foreign dignitaries should be exempted. “This is just the tip of the iceberg with the prince. It’s happening all the time with normal people,” he said. The paper described the latest incident as a “cringe inducing blunder” resulting from “the draconian lockout laws, which are regularly catching out backpackers, foreign tourists and business travellers”. About 12 French winemakers without proper ID were turned away in July from The Gresham, one of Brisbane’s best-known bars, the paper reported. Prince Frederik famously met his wife, then known as Mary Donaldson, in a pub in Sydney during the 2000 Olympics.

The multi-sports Games for mostly former British colonies has traditionally been held by major metropolitan centers with Melbourne, New Delhi and Glasgow hosting the last three editions. Australia's Gold Coast will break that tradition to some extent when it hosts the quadrennial event in the sprawling beachside metropolis next year but the 2030 bid spreads the event right across the state. Led by Greater Shepparton City Council, a town of 63,000 some 200 kilometers north of Melbourne, the bid represents a "first of a kind vision" that could become the norm for future multi-sports gatherings, organizers said. The South African city of Durban recently pulled out of hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games because of the cost, reflecting a trend also seen in the Olympic movement. "What we are unveiling today is ... blueprint for future major sporting events given the cost required and infrastructure needed to hold global competitions like the Commonwealth Games," Shepparton Mayor Dinny Adem said in a news release. "Importantly, staging a ground-breaking concept such as this across regional cities and towns will leave a legacy for millions of people like we have never seen before. "The economic and social impact will be so significant, not to mention the wave of optimism that would sweep the state." Sydney hosted the Empire Games, the precursor to the Commonwealth Games, in Sydney in 1938 while Perth (1962), Brisbane (1982) and Melbourne (2006) have played host to the event in the post-Imperial era. More than 70 countries and territories were represented by nearly 5,000 athletes at the last Games in Glasgow in 2014 with England topping the medals table head of Australia.

The Cost of Cremation In Australia
costs associated can add to the stress on loved ones. With the average cost of a funeral at $8,048 in Australia, this expense is forcing many families to consider alternative options like cremation. Choosing the right services and making careful decisions are essential to ensuring a dignified farewell for loved ones, without placing financial burdens on families.
The average cost of a cremation in Australia is significantly less than that of a burial and can be considerably cheaper when you opt for a direct cremation option. A basic funeral cremation package typically includes transfers into the funeral directors care, a simple coffin or casket and any paperwork required by the Australian Government including a death certificate.
In addition, a simple urn is usually included in the cost of a cremation. More elaborate or decorative urns or those that are plated in precious metal can increase the overall price of a cremation. If you want to have a permanent memorial for your loved one, you may wish to purchase a headstone or plaque, however, you can also choose from a range of memorial gardens and trees, benches and parks where you can scatter your loved ones ashes.
You can also choose to have a green or natural burial which can be significantly cheaper than a traditional burial. This option eliminates the use of a steel casket and allows the body to be buried in one of the dozens of natural burial grounds around Australia. Another option is to be buried on your own land, however, this can involve council fees and is not possible for all properties.
The cost of a cremation can also be affected by the type of service you have, as you may wish to hold a service at the cemetery before or after the ceremony at the crematorium. Alternatively, you can choose to hold the two ceremonies at the same venue and have a dual-service cremation which can be more affordable than a full funeral. Funeral Pre Planning
Funeral Pre Planning allows you to set out your preferences and make arrangements before the need arises. It is a great way to ensure that the final service will be what you want and can save your family and friends time, stress, and money.
When a loved one passes away, families often have up to 70 decisions to make in the first 48 hours. This can be stressful and confusing for those left behind to figure out what their loved ones’ wishes were, which is why funeral pre planning is so important. When you pre plan, you can set out your specific preferences for a funeral service that will give family and friends a chance to say goodbye in a way that is meaningful to them.
Having your funeral planned in advance can also help to avoid family arguments and disagreements about what you would have wanted for your service. It can also remove some of the pressure that families often feel to spend a lot of money on your funeral, which can be difficult when everyone is grieving. Preplanning can also help you to lock in current prices, which will protect your family against rising funeral costs.
There are a number of different steps involved in Funeral Pre Planning, and it is a good idea to talk with your funeral director to get more information. The first step is to decide whether you would like to be buried or cremated. Next, you’ll need to decide where you want the service to take place. This can include a church, funeral home, private residence, or other venue. Once you have chosen a location, you’ll need to select a casket or urn (if you choose cremation) and determine whether you want a burial vault or container.
Other details that need to be arranged include choosing pallbearers, a eulogy speaker, and music for the service. Some people also prefer a visitation or viewing before the service. Lastly, you’ll need to determine how you want to be remembered in the memorial service and what you would like to be written on your grave marker or headstone.
If you are planning to prepay for your funeral services, it is a good idea to carefully review the terms and conditions of any agreement before signing. It is also important to read the fine print, as some companies may charge hidden fees or add on additional services not included in the price quote. When you prepay, you’ll typically have the option to choose between paying in full or splitting the cost into a payment plan. You can ask your funeral director for a breakdown of these charges to help you avoid any surprises when it comes time to use your pre-paid funeral plans.
