❝ i’m afraid that i won’t be dying today. why ? well, it’s quite simple. this isn’t just my life anymore. it belongs to that stupidly rich master of mine who ended up buying me. ❞

hailing from a facility training and raising assassins, ruby was never given a name, only a number ❝ 23 ❞, which was tattooed onto the back of her neck, along with a barcode. despite her unassuming stature, ruby would become one of the most feared assassins in the underworld. however, she would be bought and sold, exchanged from owner to owner, and made to take part in illegal fight rings. ruby would eventually meet theos westcott, and would end up under his employment as his bodyguard.

♔ her fighting would come to an end when it was revealed that theos westcott had bought her; the name wouldn’t mean anything to her, and ruby would be led out of her cell in chains. something would snap when she found out that she was being sold again, and in her rage, she would kill her would-be buyers before they even had a chance to blink, and she would disarm the remaining bodyguards before moving to kill theos westcott.

♔ theos barely reacts, but ruby does not move, not even with the guns pointed at her head. surprisingly, it’s evett who proposes that they make ruby one of their own, and theos offers her a place with them. ruby knows what she’s being offered, and she accepts, with a soundless nod.

♔ once, scrubbed clean of dirt and grime, and dressed in clean clothes, ruby is young, shockingly so, and has long red hair and bright blue eyes. she doesn’t yet have a name, and they can’t keep calling her 23, but it’s theos who indirectly finds a solution. he remarks that her hair reminds him of rubies, to which ruby replies that she wouldn’t mind being called that. as such, oznitus calls her ruby.

♔ oznitus soon learns that she is deadly, formidable in both weapons and martial arts, and is arguably one of their better members; it would be a waste to bench her, but it also becomes clear that ruby lacks social skills altogether, and as such, the task of teaching her falls to the exasperated evett. 

♔ conversations between them include gems like, “ruby, this is a knife for eating, not for stabbing people.” and “ruby, no weapons at the dinner table.” ruby is utterly disinterested in these ettiquette lessons, and evett is just about ready to tear his hair out, until mika walks by and casually comments that unless she learns how to behave, she won’t be able to go out with theos as his bodyguard. evett does tear his hair out when ruby behaves perfectly a second later, proving that she could have mastered these sessions, but had deliberately chosen not to.

♔ ruby is as ferocious and as sadistic in battle as ever. she has no qualms about eliminating anyone who stands in her way with a gleeful smile. she goes all out during battles, and is perfectly willing to throw herself into the thick of the action. she only listens to theos, and evett on occasion.

♔ she has a variety of nicknames; the mad dog of oznitus, the bitch, and westcott’s lap dog.

♔ she has a tattoo of the number 23 and a barcode on the back of her neck from her days in the facility. but ruby doesn’t appreciate the reminder of who she used to be and where she came from; as such, she keeps her neck covered with chokers and velvet ribbons in varying shades of red.

♔ she called theos master at first, but now calls him sir.

♔ her first few days with oznitus were disastrous. when she was out in public with theos, she would bare her teeth and glare at any unfamiliar people who approached him; she would break someone’s hand in the ensuing fight, before evett managed to pull her off. this obviously posed a problem, and evett was put in charge of teaching her ettiquette shortly after.

♔ the first time that she smiled, really smiled, was when theos patted her head and told her that she’d done a good job. the feeling of happiness was an unfamiliar one, and ruby seemed almost softer and lighter somehow, practically glowing and radiant long after the encounter had ended.

♔ being given a variety of dog-related nicknames might be insulting to some, but ruby bears them all with pride, despite her apparent lack of a collar.

♔ the majority of her outfits consist of formal black suits and pleated black skirts, but ruby is absolutely capable of dressing up, should the occasion call for it. however, she hates how constricting and figure-hugging the formal dresses are, and usually ends up ripping the skirts apart at the seams if she has to engage in combat.

♔ she sees her previous owners at formal parties sometimes, but for the most part, ruby ignores them and stays far away. however, the hatred gleaming in her eyes is unmistakable, and the bloodlust radiating off her makes it clear that she would kill them if she could.

♔ ruby has a bad habit of hiding her injuries. she’s very good at covering up her pain with a smile, and her normal bouncy attitude, and this usually winds up with her collapsing in quiet corners if the injury is serious enough.

♔ she still has trouble sleeping at night, and at first, ruby sits outside of theos’ room, guarding him silently through the night and staring blankly at the wall until the first rays of morning sunlight break. she doesn’t go in (she never does), and she’s gone by the time theos is awake.

━ i've said it before and i'll say it again, ruby has trouble sleeping at night and she often goes to theos' room to keep him company ( no, the figurines and the green walls do not deter her ). she'll ask him about his game, or if she's really scared, she'll ask him to talk about the wicked witch; she never gets tired of seeing his eyes light up as he talks animatedly. ruby usually falls asleep in his room, sometimes on the floor or on his bed, and she's always woken up to the realisation that she's been tucked in neatly, under a pile of blankets.

━ theos has definitely walked in on ruby changing at least once, and was made aware of the fact that ruby was rather well endowed. even dressed in only her underwear, ruby was unbothered for the most part ( she parkours around night raven college in a skirt, and has probably flashed people before ), and probably attempted to chase after theos, even as he spluttered a quick apology and ran off. 【 credit to @twstroses​ 】

━ ruby definitely carries him on her back or in her arms after a rainy day, if so that he wont have to step in any puddles.

━ theos has a sixth sense for knowing when ruby's been in a fight. she can try to hide her injuries but theos knows, and he'll make her sit down while he cleans out her scrapes and bruises.

━ if theos can play an instrument of any kind, ruby would love to sit next to him and hear him play, clapping enthusiastically when he's done. it's one of the few moments when she's actually quiet, watching him with big, bright eyes.

━ ruby's first magishift tournament culminates in her absolutely wrecking her opponents and refusing to stop. she's out for blood and everyone fears that she might very well kill her opponents until theos calls out her name and tells her to stop. she does.

━ the whole dorm knows that ruby has a crush on theos, the whole school knows, but the only two who don't know are theos and ruby. the dorm probably tries to help out where they can by orchestrating situations where the two of them have to be alone together ( no, they dont spy on ruby and theos from the bushes, they swear they don’t. )

━ ruby realises that she may or may not have a crush on theos when she sees him in formal wear, with his hair slicked back and out of his face; he looks good, and the realisation is a slap to the face to ruby, who finds she is uncomfortable with the newfound attention that her dorm leader is receiving,

━ that being said, ruby takes on a completely different air when she's in formal wear. her gaze is cold and hard, she seems poised and refined; until, that is, theos asks her to dance ( after some prodding from either evett or mika ). then her eyes light up and ruby becomes more like her usual self ( if she could, she would spend the whole evening dancing in his arms ).

━ her crystal magic changed from rubies to emeralds a few days after she realised that she liked theos.

━ ruby probably did wear a sexy witch costume for halloween once.

━ theos kissed ruby to snap her out of her overblot. crystals were forming rapidly on her skin, her eyes were losing their light, she was quickly becoming something inhuman; and theos lunged forwards and pressed his lips to hers. it worked; awareness flooded back into ruby’s eyes, and she crumpled into his arms, exhausted, blushing, but very much alive.【 credit to @twstroses  】

Was She Slapped?

YES. Ruby was probably forced into attending the event; that, coupled with how she had been forced into a much-too frilly and a much-too constricting dress, meant that the small girl was already in a bad mood, and was just itching to cause trouble. Which, she most likely did, without an ounce of regret. An upset Eliza would proceed to scream at Ruby, and slap her for ruining the special day. An unholy screech would rip itself from Ruby’s mouth; Ruby would have to be held back and hastily escorted away from the venue so that she would not leap over the tables to return the slap to Eliza.

--- ali thought it would be funny to steal ruby’s black hair ribbon once; ruby went ballistic when she found out that her ribbon was missing, and nearly destroyed the dorm in her rage. needless to say, ali has never laid a finger on the ribbon ever again.

--- does ali ask ruby to help him rehearse his lines and act out his favourite plays and scenes ? absolutely. explotation at its finest. ruby will also ask him about parts she doesn’t understand ( “why did romeo and juliet both have to die ? couldn’t they just have run away together ?” ), which gives ali a chance to ramble on and explain the finer details to her.

--- ruby doesn’t really have a fashion style; all her clothes were selected for her by her guardians and packed away tidily into her trunk and shipped off to night raven college with her, so i’d like to think that ali would urge her to experiment more with her sense of style, bringing her fashion magazines and pointing out outfits he thinks would look good on her.

--- ali would be a bad influence and cajole ruby into using her magic to teleport around the dorm ( ruby doesn’t really need much persuasion, and she’s livid that she never thought of using her unique magic like this before ). evett finds out when ruby teleports behind him and nearly bowls him over ( giving him a heart attack in the process ) and soon bans the use of unique magics in the dorm.

━ when ruby was a shy and quiet first year, she clung a lot to evett, and followed him around like a little duckling. evett was relieved to find that she wasn’t a trouble maker, only for ruby to settle into the school, and become exactly that; a troublemaker. evett, to this day, wonders where he went wrong.

━ evett is tall enough, and ruby small enough that he’s probably picked her up by the scruff of her neck and dragged her away, before she could get into trouble.

━ ruby has definitely been mistaken for evett’s little sister at least once. ruby confirmed that she was, jokingly, only for evett to reply completely seriously, that he wouldn’t have such a troublemaker as his little sister.

━ what’s ironic is that ruby is evett’s annoying little sister. she’s very quick to pick up on his likes, his dislikes, what makes him tick; and even his crushes ( again, very ironic, considering how ignorant she is of her own feelings ), and she might even meddle in his love life ( unfortunate, considering how straight-forward and blunt she is ).

━ ruby has picked up swearing from evett, although she’s only learned the word fuck so far. evett tries to refrain from swearing around ruby, especially since she tends to wander around the school, repeating the swears she’s picked up under her breath in an awed kind of wonder. 

━ on the rare occasions that theos is actually asleep and ruby does not wish to bother him at night, ruby leaves her room and wanders around the dorm, often falling asleep in corners. evett is usually the one who finds her, and carries her back to her room.

━ after reading the oznitus route, i personally headcanon that evett probably harbours some resentment towards ruby, considering how she’s been blessed with a vast amount of magic, and he even tells her that he hates her, that he’s always hated her, right before he overblots. ruby, however, stares evenly at him, and tells him that even though he might feel that way, she has never harboured any resentment towards him.

as you can probably tell, ruby likes loves theos a lot. it takes her a while to realise that she like likes him, since she’s never felt love before, but once she does, the feelings hit her hard, and she’s gone, hook, line, and sinker. theos is pretty much her first love, and, needless to say, she would do anything for him.

--- eva may be taller, but does that stop ruby from picking her up ? no. eva swoons a lot in ruby's presence so that ruby will pick her up, and ruby falls for it everytime, hook, line and sinker.

---  eva has probably urged ruby to try on some of her old ballgowns, complete with tiaras and jewellery, but after noticing how cold and distant ruby's eyes looked ( ruby remembers, she remembers that she once wore silks and jewels, she remembers chanting, incense, and it fills her with dread ), eva has stopped loaning ruby her ballgowns.

--- eva has probably tried using her magic to heal ruby's injuries, even though ruby looks displeased everytime she does and tells her to stop wasting her magic.

--- eva probably treats ruby to desserts a lot ! i can see eva ordering a huge ice cream sundae or parfait and coyly asking if ruby wants to share it with her ( ruby always says yes ).

ruby would probably drag eva along with her on her adventures. i can also see them stupidly enabling each other, or competing over the stupidest things, like seeing who can eat their lunch faster, or who can get to the top of that tree fastest, and their stunts drive evett wild every time. it’s okay if eva’s in danger; ruby immediately abandons what she’s doing to help her friend out of the mess (that she may or may not have caused), and she’s okay even if doing so causes her injuries; she knows they’ll heal quickly !!

what type of kisses does ruby give?

Considering how she’s always on the go, her kisses would probably be quick; casually pressed to the cheek, the back of a hand, the corner of a mouth, or maybe even to the forehead, right before she’s up and running again, with a cheerful tinkle of laughter (part of her happiness is due to seeing the pale pink imprint of her lip gloss on her partner’s face, but she isn’t about to tell them what she’s left behind). 

I can also see Ruby pressing kisses to pulse points; maybe on the inside of the wrist, or to the side of their neck, because she knows that they’re alive, and she can feel proof of that, which is reassuring to her in a way.

━ ruby would probably try to slow down for prim when they’re off parkouring somewhere; she isn’t aware of how people can’t keep up with her, or how they don’t heal as easily as she does if they get injured, so it takes her some reminders ( and prim not following her ) for ruby to realise that humans have limits, and she would try to be more considerate as a result.

━ i can see prim loaning ruby brooms and urging her to try them out, knowing that her adrenaline-loving friend would probably love zooming around on them !! but after several unfortunate incidents ( ruby crashed into evett, fell off the broom from a height and broke her bones ), ruby was banned from using brooms outside of pe class.  

━ prim probably tries to teach ruby how to make flower crowns, but ruby isn’t very good at making them; she has little patience for it, and her crowns fall apart pretty much immediately in a shower of flower petals.

━ i can see them eating sweets together a lot, or, at the very least, having weekly tea parties. ruby probably knows the best cafes and sweet shops, and i can see them going cafe hopping as well !!

ruby grows up with tiny little pieces of her memory, of her life before lurking in the back of her mind. it’s just fleeting impressions; like how she hates the feeling of cold metal pressing into her skin, how she sees a figure with sad and lifeless eyes in the history textbook, their features delicate and hauntingly familiar for reasons she is unable to fathom. and then she meets radella, and her memories come back fully, one by one, and ruby remembers.
