Honestly Index Dunham gets essentially no appreciation, do you happen to have any thoughts on him?
me digging through old asks in my inbox fhhghgh
I DO. HAVE SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT HIM.
I hc that the RLF are split up into multiple factions and all of them have their own idea of what a liberated Rubicon looks like. You have those that follow Father Dolmayan that have a religious reverence/fear of the Coral, and want to stop its industrial use once they kick the corporations off Rubicon.
Meanwhile you have other factions that want to reclaim control over their planet and regain their position as the powerhouse in the galaxy - which means exploiting Coral, industrially and defensively. Where Index Dunham falls, I haven't quite decided yet, but from his arena profile which says he was a worker...
Well, either he is a very, VERY spry 70+ year old unaugmented human or there was still illicit Coral mining going on under the PCA's noses - which we know because of BAWS hiding a small Coral well in their arsenal. No doubt Dunham was probably working in one of those illegal mines, trying to harvest as much as possible to feed the mealworms which in turn feeds the dwindling Rubiconian population...
Then the corporations crashed the party, and they sniffed out every single small well that the Rubiconians were using, punting Dunham out of work but still in possession of a BASHO AC.
I don't think Dunham has, like, big ideological dreams like Flatwell and Dolmayan do, or even ambitions like Ziyi does as a Coral Warrior. I feel like Dunham is someone who just desperately wants to eke out a life where they're not scrounging for scraps they can't even survive off of. The only way he can do that now, though, is fighting corporate forces in a repurposed construction AC, and putting up a pretty decent fight considering. Guy tried to solo three ACs at once, and if you sit back and just let Iguazu and Volta handle it - yeah, they win eventually, but it's very, very slow going.
Dunham, in another life would've been an amazing AC pilot. In this one, someone who just wants these scavenging hyenas off his planet so his people can stop being starved to death.
#armored core#armored core 6#i do need to ponder more about him though#he's your intro to a “proper” AC fight#as the test pilot doesnt really count in my mind#test pilot was just a money bag you kept punching for coam

The Good, The Bad, and The Dirty: RWBY Vol7 Ep11
How can an episode with such potential be executed in the most basic way possible?
Tune in to find out
Overall rating: 3/10.💀
So, for those of you who are wondering, I didn’t write a review for the previous episodes because I was busy and also because I wasn’t really much into them. After praising the beginning episodes of the volume so much, it pains me that we’re here again: in the mediocre.
Remember back in volume 5 when the volume finale was slow, tedious and bad? Well, Toastyhat made an awesome edit of how a proper crew would execute a portion of the finale right. Today, I’m afraid we witnessed the same lack of narrative cohesion.
The Good:
The episode starts with a showdown between Ironwood and Watts. Contrary to popular belief, Watts didn’t turn himself into an android, he’s pure flesh and chaotic Sombra/Waluigi energy. I gotta say, the idea of using gravity and bullet count to increase the tension of the fight is a good idea, unfortunatelly, this section will be continued in The Bad. I just want to give credit where credit is due.
Also, after seeing so many survival documentaries recently, and listening to the song in the background, it was badass of James to injure his flesh arm to stop Watts. He’s 150% on this b*tch.
Next off, we got the two birds and the magical clover boi fighting against the serial killer and Orichimaru knock off aka Tyrian (I’m sorry, I will always see him as an Orochimaru knock off because of the tongue thing). The fight was well animated, choreograph, and seeing how these 3 characters used their moves and weapons in a creative way to handle Tyrian was nice.
I think it was obvious who was going to win in a 1V3 fight, but the question is still there: who is the scorpion crazy man gonna kill? Unless they break his tale, the possibility is still out there and it’s dumb.
As soon as Ironwood starts calling up everyone to base, I knew shit was gonna go sideways. It’s also important that the CRWBY didn’t show us what Ironwood saw. For those who thought about the relic being gone, then Atlas would’ve been gone; however, for those of us who thought it was going to involve Cinder and Neo, we are proven wrong shortly after. Cinder is playing on Ironwood’s fears to obtain the maidens powers and it seems very likely that the new maiden will possibly be Neo due to her whereabouts. Cont. On the Dirty section.
Next off, we have Ironwood’s breakdown, which I think was handled pretty well all together. It has been foreshadowed, the crumbs were leading us there, and after a couple of episodes, Yang and Blake’s betrayal plan bites them in the ass, as well as Team RWBY+JNOR+Qrow’s secret of Jinn. However, I want to express how much of a non betrayal it is: Ironwoods poor choice making lead him to a very dark path and everyone, especially Yang and Blake saved his ass from making everything worse.
However, Ironwood’s idea of doing the right thing is to only trust his judgement despite being proven that he can’t do things alone. I never defended his obvious choices or praised him as a hero or as a #protectIronDaddy squad member because I knew his authoritarian nature would inevitably lead him to the obvious insecure military man attitude he has.
On that aspect, I’m happy to know this was established previously and I reflected upon on my early reviews. His decision to arrest team RWBY and set his team up against them + Clover vs Robin and Qrow is reasonable and correct. However, I do have big points that I will criticize on The Bad section that rightfully piss me off.
The last thing this episode did properly was show us that Oscar is missing by the end with a proper cliffhanger.
The Bad:
Just as I said in the intro: I’m afraid the fight between Ironwood and Watts loses its tension quickly. The fight feels slow and it seems like the song was slapped onto the background because the theme fits rather than the animation being built around the fight scene. The beat of the song doesn’t carry out the heavy punches and in the end it’s kind of distracting.
TBH, the fighting scene between the birds, the clover, and the scorpion was better paced and visually interesting. Why couldn’t they mix both to the song and done what Toasty did? That way the narrative of willing to give it all for the safety of kingdom would’ve hit harder and stood in even better contrast with the second half of the episode. On one side, u got your blood pumping as u cheer for ironwood and the others, while on the other you’re typing nononononoNONO ironwood why.
The next thing that bothered me was the scene were the Ace ups n the teams are called back by Ironwood, not only does the ship seem bigger and emptier, but we never cut to the othersI thought that for a moment the bees and there other Ace Ops were assigned another area before we cut to everyone in Ironwood’s office, WTF?! Was 1 more scene while Elm and Harriet spoke too much to ask?
Remember what I said about characters standing around doing nothing? HOW THE FUCK DO YOU EXPECT ME TO BELIEVE THAT YANG WAS OKAY WHILE SALEM WAS TORTURING HER LITTLE SISTER AND TRASH TALKING HER MOM!??????
The show does this time and time again: every moment where Yang could have a big reaction to something, she doesn’t. Every time Summer Rose is mentioned it’s to hit Ruby, not both of them, even if Yang suffered the loss of her mother and had to take her role raising Ruby. It’s obvious that the biggest impact is going to be Ruby since she never got to know her mother like others, but how the fuck can you not treat both sisters’ grief at their loss equally? Both are going to have different reactions and a different coping mechanisms, but they would still be there.
It’s not just the FNDM who forgets easily that Summer was Yang’s mom, it’s sees like the writers do as well. Yang wouldn’t even steal Ruby’s thunder, or the emotional impact of the scene in Ruby’s psyche if that’s what you’re afraid of.
Here we have Yang #AbandonmentIssues Xiao Long just letting her sister get berated and comforting her after? I call BS from here to the moon. We’ve seen Yang get triggered before, and there’s no way she wouldn’t have fired at Salem’s ghost.
Which dials back to my issue with the whole Ironwood, Ace Ops vs RWBY scene, are u telling me each of them waited their turn to talk and didn’t just start arguing until it hit the boiling point?
RWBY arguments always seem so empty and silent it doesn’t provoke anything in me but annoyance. How can the voice actors (specially Barb, holy shit that voice break) do such a good job with their lines and be given so little to work with? I understand Weiss being frightened, specially from where she comes, but Yang, Ruby, Blake, Arrow and Harriet?
BS From here to Pluto.
I’m happy Ruby got her phone out and called JN_R, but man, was that dissatisfying as fuck.
The Dirty:
Okay, I'm really not happy at Winter rushing to the maiden’s side because it’s obvious that her powers are going to get stolen. It’s just so ridiculously obvious that I do not understand after how many breaches Ironwood would even do that. NVM Winter. Hey, ever heard of a decoy? Didn’t think about ending the maiden’s life in a humane way to avoid her power getting stolen in the middle of a crisis?
Nah, maybe it’s just me.
--
Overall rating: 3/10. Too stilted for my liking,
A.N.: As expected people went and defended Willow. I will reiterate my position on her again and tell u to read the recent RWBY comic chapter. Willow is godawful and I do not stan at all.

Let’s have a glance at the Chevening Leadership and Influence Question. Leadership & Influence Question Chevening is looking for individuals that will be future leaders or influencers in their home countries. Explain how you meet this requirement, using clear examples of your own leadership and influencing skills to support your answer. (Minimum word count: 100 words, maximum word count: 500 words) The first sentence states what kind of people Chevening is looking to sponsor, namely; Future Leaders/Influencers in their home countries. The second part asks the applicant to demonstrate that he (clearly) meets this requirement. Having selected your examples, kindly choose a maximum of 3 but 1 or 2 are just fine as long as you clearly bring out your vast array of leadership qualities, skills, and attributes. We will now look at answering the above question using the STAR approach. For purposes of the Chevening essay, I enjoin you to add L (Lessons Learnt) as well. Thus, for all your Leadership and Networking essays, we shall use the STARL approach. It saves time, words and helps you answer the question satisfactorily. A final reminder here that Chevening is looking for future potential leaders/influencer and this has nothing to do with your previous position. S- Situation. This is straightforward. The situation is an event, project, or challenged encountered. Use the who, what, where, when and how. Example: In 2015, I joined X Company as a Team Lead, Marketing. Although the company was making profits, these were marginal and there was a high staff attrition rate because the company could not remunerate its employees according to prevailing market rates. T-Task: Here, briefly highlight your responsibilities and assignments for the situation above. In other words, what did you do or what did you need/want to do to change the results for better? Be specific and concise. This is a good opportunity for you to highlight the challenges faced as well. Overcoming challenges is one of the greatest hallmarks of a leader. It is an area where you can ace your essay. Example:After a brief sales check, I quickly realised profits could be doubled. After sharing this information with the manager, I was assigned to draft a new marketing strategy to boost the company’s sales. However, some old staff were not welcoming of the idea and refused to cooperate in the drafting of the new roadmap. A-Action: These are steps or procedures that you undertook to remedy the problem or situation. Here, clearly describe what you did. How did you go about the task that needed to be accomplished? The focus is on what you did as an individual, not as a team or group. Highlight leadership qualities or traits that Chevening is looking for (initiative, teamwork, organisational skills, leadership, temerity etc). Describe how you overcame any challenges faced in your quest to win achieve your task. Example:To win them over,I organised small group meetings where I allowed everyone to express their fears or reservations about the intended changes. I then sold my vision to them, sharing my successful stints at my previous job. I also encouraged them to assign specific duties to each and every member and recognised the contribution of each one of them. They felt valued and before long, everyone embraced my idea. I then set about finding the prevailing consumer needs, aspirations and perceptions. I designed customer exit interviews and organised focused group discussions to determine their views about the products we were selling them. After compiling a list of customer needs, I persuaded the manager to let me conduct a promotion drive to boost our sales, which he willingly obliged. R-Result: Tell them the outcome of the situation and your specific contribution to the said outcome. What did you accomplish? Let your results be realistic, achievable, and believable. Let the reader not question your achievements. Example: Within 6 months, the company’s sales had more than tripled, way above our expectations. The profits improved by 300% in just over a year and this resulted in the company raising the salary of all employees by 15%. I won the “Employee of the Year” award in only my first year at the organisation. A few years later, I was promoted to the Regional Supervisor, overseeing over 100 employees. L-Lessons Learnt: This is an addendum to the Result part above. What did you glean from the above scenario? Can you use similar approaches in comparable future situations/problems/challenges/contexts?Example:This experience showed me that understanding the organisation’s internal and external customer needs can boost the sales of a company. In summary, one of your leadership essays could look like the one below. Disclaimer: This is just an example for learning purposes. It is my own imagination and I am not a sales person. In 2015, I joined X Company as a Team Lead, Marketing. Although the company was making profits, these were marginal and there was a high staff attrition rate because the company could not remunerate its employees according to prevailing market rates. After a brief sales check, I quickly realised profits could be doubled. After sharing this information with the manager, I was assigned to draft a new marketing strategy to boost the company’s sales. However, some old staff were not welcoming of the idea and refused to cooperate in the drafting of the new roadmap. To win them over, I organised small group meetings where I allowed everyone to express their fears or reservations about the intended changes. Within 6 months, the company’s sales had more than tripled, way above our expectations. The profits improved by 300% in just over a year and this resulted in the company raising the salary of all employees by 15%. I won the “Employee of the Year” award in only my first year at the organisation. A few years later, I was promoted to the Regional Supervisor, overseeing over 100 employees. This experience showed me that understanding the organisation’s internal and external customer needs can boost the sales of a company. In my opinion, using the SAR/CAR/PAR approach seems easier as the task is often embedded in the situation part of the technique and unless you are familiar with this technique, you can skip T. Also, this is not cast in stone that you have to follow the above format to the dot. For example, you can do away with large sections of the above imaginary example to beat the word count. They understand you can not write everything in just 500 words but there is the bare minimum they still expect of you. Tailor your essays to your needs. Try as much as possible to use statistics as well as leadership traits. A brief Introduction: We advise you to always start with an introduction to your leadership essay. You can use the following tips: Give an overview of what leadership means to you and provide a generic encounter or experience before going on to provide focused examples. E.g. I was born and raised in a typical rural African village. At age 6, I was crafted into tending to and fending for our animals. Therefore, I developed organisational, resilience and other leadership skills which have been honed over the years. Start with a personal definition (personalised definition of what leadership is) e.g. For me, leadership is about service – being able to, in one’s own small way, restore a smile where one is lost. All my life, I have lived by this intrinsic standard. I started volunteering while in secondary school, campaigning against teen pregnancies, child marriage, gender inequality and HIV/AIDS. An introduction that mirrors the question E.g. “I have been influential in my community and my leadership skills are evident in the following examples. Having worked as a….” Introducing yourself and roles g.”I am a Doctor of Medicine, with 5 years’ experience and one of the youngest leaders at district healthcare level in my country as District Medical Officer and Chair of the District Health Management Team. I supervise over 200 staff as well as one hospital and seventeen health centres covering a population of seventy-five thousand, in primary healthcare provision, promoting healthy rural households. Note that this is not an introduction per se and the writer can ably build on this role using the STAR/TRUE approach to write a compelling leadership example. In other words, intros aren’t a must, they are dispensable. They’re therefore at the discretion of the writer. A Concise Conclusion to your Essay: After you have written your essays, it is only fitting and proper that you conclude. Briefly show cause why you want to be a Chevening Scholar, highlight how the scholarship will help you realise your and the Scholarship’s vision of being a leader/influencer in your home country. Chevening has some leadership conferences and seminars that can fast track your goals of being a global leader. Mention these if you have space. E.g. The Chevening Scholarship will further enhance my leadership skills and prepare me for senior managerial positions upon returning home – fighting for quality sexual and reproductive services for women as I look forward to transitioning into a global leader. Reducing your Word Count As you should have noticed from the imaginary example above, I wrote just over 300 words. If you wrote that example as it is, you would probably use only one example in your essay. Writing one example is not a problem in itself if you can bring out your plethora of qualities clearly and leave no stone unturned. During interviews, I was asked only one example for each of the leadership and networking essays. Chevening is about quality not quantity. However, quality without significant quantity is no quality. Just imagine someone gives you yummy morsel of bread to stimulate your taste buds and says that is all. It is why I encourage you to best use 2-3 examples. This shows the scholarship team that you are all-round person by diversifying your leadership examples. It is not always a must. After all, the instructions instruct you to use your own examples to convince them that you have leadership potential in you. Thus, the above example can be abridged by eliminating lots of unnecessary words and/or using synonyms. In fact, I would eliminate most words in that example till the word count is around or less than 200. This requires a special skill which you gain by repeated practice. I have put forth a few tips to help you scale down your words; Use active verbs. These save you words and at the same time convey the message distinctly. Avoid adverbs: these are generally unnecessary and take up a lot of your word count yet serve no purposes. In your scholarship essays, every word counts. They are not looking at your prolific writing skills. Have you answered the questions correctly? Words such as actually, really, basically etc at times dilute your essays. So instead of saying “I am actually very late”, use “I am late”. You don’t need to quantify how late you are. Also use superlatives in place of “very” in need be e.g. instead of “very good”, say :excellent” Use synonyms. This helps to avoid the monotonous and often boring use of the same word throughout the essay. Also, replace phrases with single words e.g. “At the same time” can be written as “Simultaneously”. Minimise use of articles (“a”, “the” and “an”): Where possible do way with these. Use grammatically correct compound words: These words may have a hyphen, often combining two nouns e.g.time-consuming is one word while consuming time is two words. However, avoid the trap of forcing nonexistent (instead of: it is not existent) words. They will unpack all your essays according to Standard English grammar and if you are above the set limit, your essays won’t be read and you will have no one to blame. Avoid redundancies/pleonasms: These are words that can be done away with e.g. “the added” advantage yet advantage would stand on its own. Other examples include end result, joined together. Proofread and proofread your essays: You will be surprised to see that many words are unnecessary. After the first draft, take a few days off to engage yourself in totally unrelated activities. Come back to the essay refreshed. Strike off all that is nonessential. Whilst you are grappling with reducing word count, please be advised to use formal English. Avoid contractions to beat the word count e.g. “I’m, I’d” etc. These will be unpacked to “I am I would /I had” etc and you will exceed the word count. In subsequent articles, more tips on minimising word count and the dos and don’ts of scholarship essays will be shared. *Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed in this article are those of the authors and do not reflect those of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), its partner organisations or any scholarship awarding body. PawelCyril’s Top 10 Games 2017!
Just like my good friend @shylax, I’ll be considering any game I played for the first time in 2017, not just games that came out this year, because I mostly play older games and can highlight some underrated gems this way!
10. Castlevania II: Belmont’s Revenge (GB)
Castlevania: The Adventure is not a good game. It’s slooow and missing many Castlevania staples, such as subweapons and stairs, of all things. Its sequel, on the other hand, is Game Boy Castlevania done right. Hot damn. The four castles can be completed in any order, so even if you forget your password, you aren’t stuck doing the same intro level a hundred times. The action and platforming is on point. There are problems, certainly, but unlike the first Game Boy outing, this one feels like a proper Castlevania. The soundtrack is also killer, as par for the series’ course. Interestingly, the Japanese and international versions have one different subweapon, the cross and axe, respectively.
9. Mobile Golf (GBC)
Did you know Mario Golf (GBC) had a sequel only released in Japan? It probably didn’t come over due to its relation with the mobile adapter which also wasn’t released outside of Japan. It seems odd to test mobile multiplayer with a golf game, seeing as I could get the same result by playing the game myself and then comparing scores with my friend. That gimmick aside, this game’s essentially an expansion pack sequel to Mario Golf, running on the same engine but with new courses. It also features Foreman Spike, from Wrecking Crew! When will he make another comeback?
8. Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt (PC)
I tried this adorable indie game thanks to @arkthepieking recommendation, and he was right, it was right up my alley. Everything about it is so charming, from the characters to the graphics to the music. The difficulty goes up at a good pace, and there are quite a few secrets to be found. It’s free and short, so give it a try sometime!
7. NES Remix (1 and 2) (Wii U)
The idea of sampling old NES games’ best moments is brilliant. Every once in a while, I think, “Gee, I miss Super Mario Bros. 2, but I’m only in the mood for a couple minutes of it.” Well this highlight collection has you covered! I appreciate Zelda II in theory, but I don’t have the patience to get through its slow dialogue and frustrating areas such as Death Mountain. Thanks to this game, I was able to experience the thrilling boss fights and memorable moments without hours of irritation. It’s also a great way to sample games for a younger audience who may have not even heard of some of these games. My biggest complaint would be how the first challenge for certain games (Kirby’s Adventure uuugh) forces you to sit through a tutorial every single time, making it annoying to replay those challenges for a high score. Some challenges are also scored in a strange way, leaving you wondering why you got 3 stars or only 1. Not every game is a winner, but there are enough classics to entertain any NES fan.
6. Mario Kart 8 (Wii U)
Mario Kart 7 was a bit underwhelming, but Mario Kart 8 brought back the fun. While some of the character choices are disappointing (waaay too many babies), we also got Isabelle, so it balances out. The zero-gravity gimmick is fine, although I don’t even realize I’m upside-down most of the time. Regardless, the new courses are a blast, and there are plenty of revamped retro courses that make me nostalgic and happy. The F-Zero and Animal Crossing courses in particular are full of love. I can’t get over the little details such as rupees replacing coins in the Zelda course, or how every Animal Crossing game’s theme is represented (ILY GameCube AC).
5. Final Fantasy V (GBA)
Being a huge Dragon Quest fan, I’ve held off on playing this for a long time, but I finally got around to it this year. This may just be my favorite main FF game. The story is simplistic compared to IV, but it’s still interesting enough for me. The best way to describe it is charming. The music is also lovely, especially the battle theme, which is my favorite in the series. I’m still not finished with this game, but it’s safe to say I like it a lot.
4. JGTO Kōnin Golf Master (GBA)
I bought this game just to add to my golf game collection. I did not expect it to be such an underrated gem. Easily my favorite golf game on the GBA, and one I still play from time to time. You can read my full review on it for more details. Overall, it’s a fun game with good pacing and a super catchy soundtrack. Technically this game came out in the west as ESPN Final Round Golf 2002, which took out the story mode and changed some graphics. The cartoony real-life golfers were replaced by realistic-looking fictional golfers, and a few other things such as the HUD are changed around, but it’s essentially the same game. If you want a golf game for the GBA besides Mario Golf, I highly recommend this.
3. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)
Although I put Fates on my top ten list last year, it was a massive disappointment in many ways. Echoes blows it out of the water. Despite being a remake, it’s so fresh! It’s a remake of Gaiden in terms of story, but it’s a completely revamped game that takes everything you know about Fire Emblem and chucks it out the window. It took a while to relearn things such as inventory management and spells, which are now handled differently, but this breath of fresh air is exactly what this series needed. Easily one of the best Fire Emblem games.
2. Dungeon Travelers 2 (PS Vita)
Technically I bought this last year, but I put it on hiatus for a while and played a lot more this year, so I think it’s earned a spot. Not gonna lie, I bought this game primarily for the sleaze. It’s a dungeon crawler with cute girls. What else could I ask for? To my surprise, though, it’s actually a fantastic dungeon crawler in its own right. The difficulty can be quite tough at times, but that makes it so satisfying to overcome. There are tons of ways to build your party, with dozens of jobs that fit into various archetypes. I love the idea of the maid class, which isn’t too useful on its own, but has the ability to restore another party member’s MP for free. This is a fascinating idea, essentially sacrificing a slot in your party for an extra battery for your mage. The story is rather forgettable, but the characters are surprisingly likable and are more interesting than simply sexy ladies. Gratuitous fanservice is still a major part of the game, however, so it’s difficult to recommend this game to any RPG fan. If you’re into women and dungeon crawling, though, this game is way better than it has any right to be. There’s a free demo, so check it out!
1. Chrono Trigger (SNES)
Can you believe I played this for the first time in 2017? For years, friends have told me I’d love this game, but I didn’t believe the hype. Chrono Trigger is one of the best RPGs I’ve ever played. The story, music, characters, gameplay, and more are all incredible. The story was interesting throughout with little filler, and it moved from plot point to plot point organically without the need to gather seven magic crystals or the like. The party members felt like individuals with their own goals, not merely tagging along because you’re the protagonist. For example, having to fight Magus alone as Frog is you have him in your party was satisfying and made sense. I could gush about this game forever but RPG fans already know how great it is. I cannot recommend it enough.
